All, I am still running 4.2.5 on rooted Magic. I tried upgrading a while back but found that I had to re-flash the Navigation piece i downloaded here. For some reason it is still failing to show up, even after clearing cache and rebooting.
Am I missing something. The instability of 4.2.5 is starting to get to me...
Thanks
Why not upgrade to 4.2.12.2?
Also if you're in the US you can download the Google Maps update to get navigation without flashing anything.

Because I loose Navigation. The idea was to re-flash after updates but hasn't worked for me. My phone is rooted, I can't download Google Maps from the market.
if your phone is rooted the market should still work just fine... I run CyanMod 4.2.12.2 on my MyTouch fine, after my last flash i popped up market and updated google maps. Nav works great (you'll need the svox stuff for the voice commands but it'll walk u through that)
I had the same problem. On mine I had to download a newer 1.6 base, flash that, then flash Cyano's latest and greatest. There was something different about the older zip that would mess everything up. the filename is DRC83_base_defanged.zip Hope this helps.
did the same as above, the old 1.6 will not allow you to instal the new google maps

In order to use Google Nav, here's what you need to do, if this doesn't work then, I don't know, re-root or something.
I'm assuming your using a Mytouch (32B), but if not go here and follow the directions for 32A
1. Download the HTC Android 1.6 base image - here
2. Then download the latest CyanogenMod - Here
3. Then after backing up your SD and then wiping everything from it, put those two zip files on your SD, then flash them - being sure to flash DRC83_base_defranged first, then flash the CyanogenMod.
4. Go to the market and download the Maps update in the market. Also you'll need to install all the tts and voice stuff that goes along with Maps after you open it.
If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure.
Same for me. I was pretty bummed when I rooted and realized I had no access to Labs for Google Maps.
Solution was just to go to the market and get the update for Maps. Now everything is right in the world again.

I installed it successfully. Any chance you did the nav hack in the past? If so, I would try a fresh install.
I tried the nav hack the other day, somehow screwed it up and decided to start over fresh. Clean installed Cyan 4.2.5 earlier today and I'm getting the same error about the package not signed correctly.
Same Problem here also running Cyanogen 4.2.5 won't install Maps update
In the same boat as the previous 2 posters.

This worked
So, Wipe and flash cyanogen again?
how to get map update on cyanogen 4.2.5 without using adb
this is how I got official navigation working on my mytouch running cyanogen 4.2.5, I just flashed the navigation hack then reflashed cyan 4.2.5 update package then went to market and downloaded the map update and it installed successfully, hope this helps..

I'm not sure that a wipe is necessary, but it is what I had to do because of messing up the nav hack the other day.
Google Nav/ Proprietary after-the-hack

Download the Google maps APK from this site directly to the root of the SD card; then, using Linda File Manager, use the package installer to install it (rather than trying to update from the Market). It worked for me anyway, and I had been experiencing the same problem. Now, the market shows that Maps is "Installed" rather than before, when it was saying "Update Available."
Hope this helps.

Over in the dream android development forum there is a thread with the latest cyan ROM with all the goodies included, I'm sure you can just update and have working nav. check it out.
I recently updated to CyanogenMod 4.2.8 and installed the fixed version of Google Maps (found here http://www.androidspin.com/forum/index.php?f=179&t=72&rb_v=viewtopic) and followed the directions completely, now I have no more Google Maps, it doesn't show up as installed in my Market Downloads and when I try to re-download it, it gives me the installation error.
Any help is appreciated

Those instructions don't apply to the 4.2.8 CM ROM, at least I didn't have to go that route when I finally got 4.2.8 installed and booting. I was able to download and install google maps 3.3.1 from the marketplace without any issues.
And what install error are you getting?
Now if I could get the voice activated navigation stuff working, I'd be even happier.
I am having the same issue. I installed cyan's latest update and then flashed wes's 9r1 and my google maps is gone. When I tried downloading it from the marketplace it downloaded fine but hung up on the install... said "incompatable update"... any ideas?
I finally got it figured out... don't remember how... reflashed an old cyan rom and tried to down load it again... worked... maps are back!

This is what prevents me from DL the latest Cyanogen. I'm thankful for a custom rom but I rely on Google Nav too much to potentially not having it work.
Thanks in advance for anyone who has any advice!
I recently updatated to a newer version of [email protected] on my nexus one and since then google maps will not install.
when updating to the newest version of the rom I whiped cache and dalvik and updated. everything works except google maps. Titanium backup does not even give me the option to reinstal it. google maps v4.20 is just listed as an uninstalled app. When i select to restore missing apps, it says completed yet google maps is still not installed.
Before this I was not able to install the newer maps V4.30 and i still cannot install it off the market.
To eliminate the rom as the culprit i installed the newest version of eViL n-One-sh0t and I still do not have google maps, nor will it install.
I am just looking for anyone with any sort of advice, i tried googling it and came up with nothing. one thing i have not done is whiped the phone back to stock then re flashed the rom. I was hoping to avoid this but if it is an obviose fix i will just do that
thanks again!
Disclaimer: did several forum searches and google searches and came up empty, so if I missed the exact wording and this is covered elsewhere please don't flame me into oblivion.
For some reason my Nexus One running FRF85B is unable to install or uninstall any apk's. It just hangs at the installing... or uninstalling... respectively. Has anyone else ever seen that?
Installing has always been really darn quick. Now it just appears to be hanging.
EDIT: Adding new symptom: "Manage Applications" shows the apps installed , but their space is forever listed as "Computing...". It's like the manage applications service is just hosed.
Randy
I have seen that as well. I would have to exit (back or home) then when I got back to the applications screen again it wouldn't have to load at all.
Same here, AT&T Nexus One using FRF85B.
The weird thing is, the app(s) actually DO uninstall or install correctly, just that the Market page shows it's not, and hangs at it.
When I force stop the market, then relaunch and check my downloads, they're now reset to the correct info.
Well I'm glad it is not just me. Thinking it was a bad ROM I reinstalled (with complete wipe) Modaco's ROM, then stock Froyo, etc.
Problem went away when I just said screw it and installed CM 5.0.8.
The only problem that persists now is the server error going to the downloads tab of the market. I can't seem to lick that one even though apps download and install fine from the market.
On a side note CM5.0.8 still is snappier than Froyo. I'm salivating at the thought of CM6.
If anyone is also getting persistent errors with the market downloads tab, please chime in. I find it suspicious that I'm having this problem regardless of which ROM is installed.

No matter what I do I still get the server error in the Android Market application when I go to the downloads tab.
I've re-flashed the Froyo Radio and tried both CM 5.0.8 and Froyo.
I don't see others complaining about this so I have to imagine there's something wrong on my end. I just don't know how to diagnose it. Does anyone have any ideas? At All?

I did see that in the CM 5.0.8 ROM, but Froyo is a complete no-go. I've reflashed the radio, and have been using Modaco's ROM because it is the only one I know of that is just a rooted update I can flash with Amon-RA's recovery, but still no luck.
This is scary.
UPDATE
I went all the way back to Stock, Unrooted 2.1 from January, and still get the server error in the downloads page of the Market app. So for giggles, I wiped, created a new gmail account, and lo and behold, everything works. I could download apps, and they showed up in the download tab as installed.
That pretty much puts an end to thinking it's an app/ROM/radio problem, I think.
I then wiped again, went through initial setup with my primary Google account and I'm back to server errors on the downloads tab.
I guess maybe it really IS a server error. Don't know what I can do about it, except gripe...but at least I can stop scratching my head over what ROM/Radio is installed.
After several days of experimenting, the fact is that on any Froyo rom, whether it's stock or rooted, google's or cyanogen's, wiped or not wiped, new gmail account or existing gmail account, what I'm seeing is that, even if I wipe, go into Android and DO NOT enter a google account, going straight to settings | Manage Applications | running applications, shows "Computing..." forever.
Now, if I do a full wipe, it doesn't know anything about my account, right? And the cache, and all that are all wiped. So, what could possibly cause the infinite "Computing..." in the apps?
Does anyone know?
It happened to me as well last night. I was installing an apk (updating over an older version), and it showed "Installing...." forever. No hardware button gave me any response and I eventually had to reboot the machine by pressing the 3 buttons (luckily this worked. I really hate the thought of pulling the battery out...). After the reboot I tried again and it installed without a problem.
I m on a stock Nexus One FRF91, never hv an issue b4 that latest system update. Looks like it is bringing more issues to me...
what 3 buttons reboot the phone?
The same thing is happening to me. When trying to install any market app, it just hangs at "installing. I have to reboot the phone to get it to stop doing it.
Every once in a while, about 1 out of 15 times, I can get an app to install correctly and quickly, but all the other times it hangs.
It started happening when going to froyo. I have tried several different froyo mods and the same thing happens on all of them. When I nandroid back to 2.1 it is fine.
It happens to me with the Rodriguezstyle mod, the Kang-O_rama mod and the evil n-one shot Noir mod.
In order to fix this issue. You MUST do the following steps:
1. Wipe the SD card.
2. Wipe ext partition (if there)
3. Delete spareparts if you have it ANYWHERE on the system
4. Reboot the system into recovery
5. Wipe all cache's
Tada! Fixed!
This fixed it for me on Kang-O-Rama.
I belive the problem is when moving ROMs and the new app2SD feature stores files on the SD. When moving ROM's, it try's to scan them but fails. Something is stuck in a loop and wont stop .
When taking out the SD card, it ALL works flawlessly (give it a go if you need to install some apps to help)

Press the trackball, volume down and the power button all at the same time.
If you have root then the app quick boot is a one click solution.
When I was or do have a stalling at the install. I clear the market data and this works for me. I also try to keep the cache clear.
I am unable to get my text-to-speech to work after many ROMs and many different versions of android I am still having a problem. I say that because I do not think this problem has anything to do with a particular ROM. That being said, I am running the CM6 nightly (10/13/10).
In an attempt to download text-to-speech though the marketplace, I downloaded voicebot which needs text-to-speech to run properly, after installing it prompts me to download text-to-speech from the marketplace, I click go, it searches and finds nothing.
If anyone has had this or a similar problem, I am open to any suggestions to try and get this working.
ps it did work when I first had the stock sprint running on this phone.
Text-to-Speech
Anything? am i posting this in the right place?
Have you tried reflashing? Reflashing with no wipe? Removing any themes?

It works fine for me. I use pico for my tts.
Did you install it? When I first ran google navigation it prompted me to install it, took me directly to market, and then it worked for me
I have a copy of the svox files if you want you should b able to just place them on ur sd card and just leave them there pm me if you want them might work might not worth a try good luck
