Google maps will not install after new rom - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any advice!
I recently updatated to a newer version of [email protected] on my nexus one and since then google maps will not install.
when updating to the newest version of the rom I whiped cache and dalvik and updated. everything works except google maps. Titanium backup does not even give me the option to reinstal it. google maps v4.20 is just listed as an uninstalled app. When i select to restore missing apps, it says completed yet google maps is still not installed.
Before this I was not able to install the newer maps V4.30 and i still cannot install it off the market.
To eliminate the rom as the culprit i installed the newest version of eViL n-One-sh0t and I still do not have google maps, nor will it install.
I am just looking for anyone with any sort of advice, i tried googling it and came up with nothing. one thing i have not done is whiped the phone back to stock then re flashed the rom. I was hoping to avoid this but if it is an obviose fix i will just do that
thanks again!

Google Maps Fix Problem

I recently updated to CyanogenMod 4.2.8 and installed the fixed version of Google Maps (found here http://www.androidspin.com/forum/index.php?f=179&t=72&rb_v=viewtopic) and followed the directions completely, now I have no more Google Maps, it doesn't show up as installed in my Market Downloads and when I try to re-download it, it gives me the installation error.
Any help is appreciated

Those instructions don't apply to the 4.2.8 CM ROM, at least I didn't have to go that route when I finally got 4.2.8 installed and booting. I was able to download and install google maps 3.3.1 from the marketplace without any issues.
And what install error are you getting?
Now if I could get the voice activated navigation stuff working, I'd be even happier.
I am having the same issue. I installed cyan's latest update and then flashed wes's 9r1 and my google maps is gone. When I tried downloading it from the marketplace it downloaded fine but hung up on the install... said "incompatable update"... any ideas?
I finally got it figured out... don't remember how... reflashed an old cyan rom and tried to down load it again... worked... maps are back!

This is what prevents me from DL the latest Cyanogen. I'm thankful for a custom rom but I rely on Google Nav too much to potentially not having it work.

Can't use G. Maps Navigation after Cyanogen upgrade!

All, I am still running 4.2.5 on rooted Magic. I tried upgrading a while back but found that I had to re-flash the Navigation piece i downloaded here. For some reason it is still failing to show up, even after clearing cache and rebooting.
Am I missing something. The instability of 4.2.5 is starting to get to me...
Thanks
Why not upgrade to 4.2.12.2?
Also if you're in the US you can download the Google Maps update to get navigation without flashing anything.

Because I loose Navigation. The idea was to re-flash after updates but hasn't worked for me. My phone is rooted, I can't download Google Maps from the market.
if your phone is rooted the market should still work just fine... I run CyanMod 4.2.12.2 on my MyTouch fine, after my last flash i popped up market and updated google maps. Nav works great (you'll need the svox stuff for the voice commands but it'll walk u through that)
I had the same problem. On mine I had to download a newer 1.6 base, flash that, then flash Cyano's latest and greatest. There was something different about the older zip that would mess everything up. the filename is DRC83_base_defanged.zip Hope this helps.
did the same as above, the old 1.6 will not allow you to instal the new google maps

In order to use Google Nav, here's what you need to do, if this doesn't work then, I don't know, re-root or something.
I'm assuming your using a Mytouch (32B), but if not go here and follow the directions for 32A
1. Download the HTC Android 1.6 base image - here
2. Then download the latest CyanogenMod - Here
3. Then after backing up your SD and then wiping everything from it, put those two zip files on your SD, then flash them - being sure to flash DRC83_base_defranged first, then flash the CyanogenMod.
4. Go to the market and download the Maps update in the market. Also you'll need to install all the tts and voice stuff that goes along with Maps after you open it.
If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure.
Same for me. I was pretty bummed when I rooted and realized I had no access to Labs for Google Maps.
Solution was just to go to the market and get the update for Maps. Now everything is right in the world again.

[Q] Market doesn't see installed all my apps, only a few ones.

Hi,
I'm using Amon Recovery and I flashed LeoFroyo.
Everything was working fine, but I had the bad idea to wipe dalvik-cache under recovery when I installed another kernel (I had dalvik on my SD).
When I rebooted, looks like dalvik was back on internal and Google restored my apps again.
Only problem is now I only Gmaps, Google Earth and Urban Spoon (go figure) under downloads in the Market.
I tried Market Doctor under Titanium, fix permissions both in spare parts and under RA and tried to clear cache/data of the Market app itself.
Any ideas ?
Thank you in advance for the help!
What about trying a version tracker such as aTrackDog and see if it will detect whats there? I know this will only add them back to your downloads as new versions become available but its a start... hell, you could go through the list and reinstall each app, then it will show up in the market downloads again.
If that doesn't work and you didn't do a nandroid you might just have to reinstall them all again by hand.
Hopefully someone with a little more experience can chime in.
I've been doing quite a lot of farking around today with a new rom, and me completely not understanding what it is I'm really supposed to do vs not supposed to do, I've wiped a few times.
This last time I found the Market only saw my paid apps, no others, but it seemed like as soon as I launched AppBrain, the market showed all of my apps again! Play around, see if you can verify that helps.
It just appeared *suddenly*.
I have no explanation but I guess I'm good now!
Thanks guys anyway

Google Play Services Has stopped -- i'm becoming crazy

Hi
Samsung galaxy tab 8.9 P7300
I was working with a 4.44 rom and some days ago began popping up of "google play services has stopped".
I tried all procedure find on internet (clear cache/data of google play service, framework, google play...)
I reinstalled the rom 4.44 and tried new rom 7.1 with opengapps (nano/pico) with this sequence:
From twrp
clear data/system/cache/dalvik
Install rom+gapps
clear cache dalvik
reboot
and
SAME PROBLEM!
google play service version
10.2.98 430
help!
EDIT:
My workaround
Rom Android 7.1.1
Opengapps ver. 20170119 version (Google Play service ver. 10.0.84)
After automatic update, "disable" Google Play service and, automatically, restore ver. 10.0.84)
Disable system update on developer menù (waiting Google fix... hope)
Hi derekz2,
I spent the whole day yesterday dealing with the same issue as you do, but so far no luck, until now I have not been able to get it working. I tried Android versions 5.1.1, 6.0, 7.1.1 (different ROMs), but all of them have the same issue with Google Play services. I tried more gapps I found here, not just opengapps, but also some others that were meant to be used with that ROM (according to ROM's authors), but again, nothing helped. I also followed many suggestions I found online, still nothing. Recently I tried not to install gapps from recovery, I tried to download Google Play services from the web (I tried also older version 10.2.97) and install it manually, but the problem is still there. It seems that Google Play services somehow stopped being supported by this hardware, or I do not know... I will continue my troubleshooting further, but at the moment, I am also helpless and I would like to ask anyone for a help as well...
Thanks.
The 10.2.98 updated Play Services package is not woking for KitKat (4.4.x). Remove It and reinstall the last working package - the 10.0.84 for KK. And do uncheck Autoupdate in Play Market, or Android OS will download and install the 10.2.98 again.
Shame on Google for this "work"!

well, so far it seems that Google has done something in the latest GPS versions that is causing problems not just to us with this tablet, but to many different people on different platforms. Therefore, I believe/hope that Google will fix it soon... Anyway, try to check this thread, people are discussing GPS issue and trying different things to solve it. Let me know if something helps for you, I do not believe I will have time to test it myself today...
Thanks Skubko
The last Opengapps that is ok for 7.1 roms is 20170119 version (gps ver. 10.0.84), disable autoupdate and hope Google fix...

yes, I am planning to do that as a next step. For 6.0 ROM anyway, but also version 10.0.84, that should do the trick.. will see if other google application will want to work with older GPS and for how long... Also, I believe that once I connect to the internet afterwards, GPS will be automatically updated to the latest version (I do not think autoupdate option in google play will make any difference for GPS application)...
try to disable system update on developer menu of Android. (I see it on 7.1 version, don't know if present in previous versions)

I can unfortunately report that this does not stop Google Play Services from updating... Will try the method mentioned in thread by skubko and report back in a bit....

Well, I do have a working tablet again, but unfortunately don't have an exact procedure documented for a fix. I found a couple different threads online where other platforms are having the same issue and it has been tracked down to the latest play services using NEON instructions that are not supported by the older Tegra platform. And, as it's been over a month now, it's not clear if it will be fixed.
The basics of getting things working are to have file manager with root access available to you without wifi. It's possible that exactly what folders need to be created in /data/app/ depends on your Android version. I am working with the latest 7.1.1 build and all instruction I saw to create a folder named com.google.android.gms-1.apk and com.google.android.gms-2.apk did not work. At least not by themselves...on my successful attempt, I created them still, but also created a folder com.google.android.gms-1 as that is where the update came down on my system...so I deleted the existed folder of that name and created an empty one. Again, I don't have an exact procedure...but I will line out some steps that might help someone...
Have working, rooted 7.1.1 install.
Download opengapps from 20170119, phh superuser apk, root file explorer apk.
Factory reset in recovery, install opengapps, wipe cache again for giggles.
Go through setup without setting up wifi, install phh, install root file explorer.
Create folder /data/app/com.google.android.gms-1...maybe the other 2 mentioned above also.
Enable wifi and continue with life. You will have to sideload older versions of some google apps. The latest Google Maps wouldn't work for me...I just searched for the last version before that magic Jan 19th date...that seems to be working fine.
Caveat to this is that this is not exactly what I did to get things working...it is what I think should work. I was actually trying to follow another post that was trying to use a system app remover app to downgrade the google play services...never could get it to work...but stumbled upon something that did work...so I'll lay out those steps...
Have working, rooted 7.1.1 install that has crashing google play services.
Disable wifi
Create the folders mentioned above in /data/app.
Go to Settings->Apps->Google Play Services->Disable. This allowed me to roll back the install of the latest Google play services.
In my case it rolled back to the very previous version..because that is the version I installed from opengapps in recovery...it might roll back to whatever was originally flashed. In that case you can find a 10.0.84 google play services apk...I could never get it to install on mine...but that might have been because I already had a newer version when I was attempting to install.
Enable wifi and possibly sideload some stuff like above...
So, for other Android versions, steps should be similar...perhaps that's when the folders ending in apk will come into play. If there was a reasonably priced >8.5" and <9.5" tablet...preferably with 16:10 aspect ratio and higher pixel density than the Galaxy Tab 8.9 I would buy it...unfortunately such a device doesn't exist. May look into a used Nexus 9...until then it appears I am at least stable again...
Thx guys for your feedback here! Got same problem, that google services stopped working and my tab is crashing nonstop... Its unusable but i think a i will update to android latest rom for next 10 years
What version of play services do I need?
10.0.84 (???
beta version of Google Play Services (version 10.5.42) have resolved the Google Play Services issues.

How I spent an afternoon
I already tried aosp-5.1.1-p5wifi-20150513 with open_gapps-arm-5.1-pico-20170324 and again with open_gapps-arm-5.1-pico-20170119 as advised here, both resulting in the same bug
Then I installed aosp-6.0-p5wifi-20160131 with open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20170324 over TWRP resulting in the same "google play services has stopped" every few seconds
When I fully wiped the device, reinstalled the above aosp image and added open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20170119 from github, I had the same *** again
Then I decided to go "all-in" and first installed a new version of TWRP from here and followed the guide to install Android N from here and installed the google apps from here and SU from phh.
And it WORKED
Yay
PS: best use adb push to send the files to the device
PS2: you need to select the keyboard first upon entering the wifi credentials
yes, i get solution for that.....i remove google play service updates and registering to beta user, then it's update beta version 10.5.48 and that's works fine now

Google assistant broken

I constantly keep getting this message when trying to update Google assistant. I've tried literally everything down to a complete clean install of latest July firmware and still face this issue. I've googled everywhere and have done clearing Google app data, rebooting, making sure I'm not running Google beta app, complete factory reset, complete clean install of latest firmware with data wipe etc etc etc. Please can someone help me find a solution to this problem. I really love Google assistant and is one of the main reasons why I still keep coming back to Google. If it helps I'm running stock July firmware rooted with stock magisk patched kernel. Thanks in advance.
Edit:
For some reason even though I reside in Canada I had to switch language output in Google assistant settings to English United States and now it works fine....
