Ok, I have the excellent HTC Album installed on my Vario III. Great stuff.
It would be a perfect setup if the Camera app linked through to the Album app when I click the 'Album' button when in the camera. Right now, it opens up Windows Picture and Video Viewer, which is poo poo in comparison to Album.
Surely, there must be some registry tweak to change the default picture app from HTC Camera?
I was wondering this too
nope, this is hard coded and can not be changed..
to set album being default viewer go to HKLM - software - htc - htcalbum - default viewer set to "1"
That doesn't fix the problem.
THe only supposed way this has been accomplished is to overwrite your \windows\pimg.exe file with a copy of the htcalbum.exe file. But this would involve completely losing your pimg.exe (the current default image viewer) since its not backup-able. And you'd need to use a prog like Resco explorer to even do that. I didn't try this. Not willing to lose my pimg.exe. I've seen a couple people who did manage to do it asking if they can somehow get their pimg.exe back. I took that as a bad sign. But I wouldn't know since I didn't dare it.

Just replace the camera.exe with the New camera.exe form HTC TOUCH Dual !
replacing the camera.exe will completely overwrite the not only the picture viewer, but also the camera application.
is the camera app from HTC Touch better? Does it support the 3 MP?

where would one get the new camera app? is the camera lagg and slow like on the tilt?
I haev been trying to locate a copy of the new camera.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY HTC DOESNT SPEND A LITTLE TIME TO UPDATE THE HTC SOFTWARES ON THE TILT/KAISER.
Man the other HTC devices are so different from this one we have and have no direct internal competitions. they SHOULD DO IT.

Hot fix for TyTN II photo quality issue
If you zoom in on a captured photo and notice grainy, maze-like patterns within the image itself (this problem is caused by too much sharpness enhancement being applied in bright-light environments), please download and install this hot fix to solve the problem. Sharpness parameters within the photo will then be reduced with only a minimal loss of image sharpness.
enjoy

Lol, not working both links are down.

HTC USA: http://216.139.227.230/download/Driver/HTC TyTN II/Hot fix for TyTN II photo quality issue
Something's messed up in their form - after assorted messing around with addresses I hit the jackpot with this:

Resulting in the CAB file attached -

Thank you Boinng !
It works fine for me... The quality seems better but I will test it later...
thank you for the fix cab
because in the www.HTC.com, there is big problem connexion with the FTP
installed in UK MDA Vario 3 running Duttys 6.1 ROM and not noticed much, if any inprovement in quality. No negative effects tho so will keep testing.
thanks
Placebo
If HTC would be in pharmacy and drugs, i would call it a "Placebo".
# of pixels per pic similar as before fix though. No granular difference even with a x20 zoom enlarging soft.
Taken with same position - same light
Downside:
Application starts slower and focus takes longer.
Tested on Alex's 5.2 Home.
I took 2 pictures from the same object - one before installing the cab, and one after installing the cab.
Result: can't see any improvement too

There IS a definite improvement. The 'Zoom' which HTC refers to is not the camera zoom when taking, but the post viewing on a PC or in the album app. I used to have this horrible 'hatching' type effect when shooting on 3mp especially in the sky. It was very noticable on cloudy days. This has now disappeared.
Worthwhile fix in my book.

This might just be an updated Camera application that most of us have already gotten thanks to Nadavi.
It's not a new app, just a couple of new, replacement DLLs. It seems to do what the description says it does - it gets rid of the herringbone pattern that sometimes appeared in the grain of pictures in certain lighting situations. The pattern was only ever seen when pictures were blown up.
It's not a magic fix for everything else people dislike about the camera app, but it's worth installing.
according to Alex on this dup thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375100&page=3
It is newer then what polaris camera tossed in, thats if they did toss in anything. both DLLs were newer when I overwrite in my windows folder using totalcmd. Try dragging the pictures to a computer with a good monitor and start zooming in. Maybe if someone can experiment in a zoom in test with old driver to new drivers.

If you're manually installing the DLLs, ModuleID.dll isn't required. It's used in the cab install/uninstall process. Updated the duplicate thread for clarity about ModuleID.DLL too.
Is there a way that you could post the cab itself? I have a Tilt and HTC eclub won't let me get the file. Thanks
Esse Hotfix é compativel no WM6 em Portugues??
Obrigado

I've cooked in the new Topaz's HTC Album into my Blackstone's ROM. The album picture controls rotate just fine with G-Sensor, however the pictures themself does not!
Anyone knows a solution to that ?

good question ,
and one that's being asked by many people in many places
i thought this post is a solution, because your subject it slightly misleading
i thought [REF] = solution/guide
perhaps edit your subject to reflect the fact that you are asking a [Q]
Oh, sorry for the confusion! I'll change that
As far as I know, this has been disabled sinds the diamond series came out.

This is actually better than it was before. With the older Album versions, if you had a picture with wrong orientation (e.g. because the GSensor did not work when taking the picture or the picture was taken on another device), you could do nothing about that because if you rotated the device, the picture also rotated and was in wrong orientation again.
Now, if a picture has wrong orientation, you can simply rotate your device and don't have to twist your head anymore.
The best solution was on HTC Polaris: In the Polaris Album, there was a gesture for rotating the pictures (drawing an angle on the screen).
For some odd reason, HTC took that rotate gesture out. I've tried a lot of things to get it back and asked a thousand times here on the forum, but all without luck.
With the new Album, at least the bugging behavior of rotating the picture when the device was rotated is solved and there's no need for 'abarticulations' of your head anymore.

that was an awesome feature, and i miss it too. HTC please bring that back, it's useful even in the age of G-Sensors

i have many pictures and photos that were taken on non G-Sensor device, so no orientation data, still a pain to look at them.
