Hi everybody,
I have tested many cooked roms for Rhodium with both Manila 2.1 and Manila 2.5. I congratulate all of you very good job!
What I mentioned, that ALL roms with landscape support are extremely slow after inserting the SD card (as well as applications which must use the card work very, very slowly). This problem does not exist if you install rom with Manilla 2.5 without landscape and after that you install landscape separately (using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588476).
This solution is not perfect. If someone of rom cookers can solve this, it will be great job.
Thanks in advance...
im having no speed issues with NRG's 28011 dec 31 build of manila 2.5...i have programs installed on my sd card and i store all my music there as well...no lag in running any of these
Which class is your SD card?
I'm not entirely sure, but I believe this has something to do with the newer 2.5 roms supporting the documents tab, which likes to scan the entire phone/card for documents.
The link you posted is a 'hack' (a brilliant one!) to achieve landscape in older 2.5 roms and is not one released by HTC. The underlying system is different, is what I'm saying.
There are cabs floating around to disable the documents tab. You could try that and see if that's your problem.
The SD has been delivered with the phone. It's 8GB ScanDisk. I have very large map file (1.5GB) and the GPS software works very slowly. Without the SD everything is OK as well as if you install Manila 2.5 w/o landscape and then you add it - it seems that it is not problem with the card.
Thank for quick answer.
hi yeah disable the documents tab i dont have a slow manila on ark rhodium rom

... but what it means for my case?
I have unchecked the box of doc tab and restart the phone. No result.
I cannot find the cab file responsible for doc tab disabling. Any help?
I have made another test: if manila is turned off, everything goes well. It seems that is the manila problem, only.
I have tested this behaviour with almost all roms with Manila 2.5 listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=2115).
In each case the behaviour is the same: inserting SD card with enabled Manila means extremely slow performances of the phone.
I have used two various cards = the same effect.
No card nor Manila: everything is going properly...
Any ideas ...?
delete this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HTCService]
"DocIndexerService"="DocIndexerService.dll"
then you should be good. it is somthing to do with the doc indexer service not working with our phones.

It must be something you have installed as i use ARKs rom which is Rhodium AF and too have a 8gig card and garmin mobile installed which maps are 1.5 gig and i also have several movies and a ton of music i have no issues with anything being slow i also have the documents tab enabled and have never had a slow down issue. everything is extreemly fast my memory runs at about 58 - 60%. maybe try to flash rom and insert you card and do not install anything first to see the affect then maybe try installing programs 1 by 1 to see which maybe causing a conflict.
Additionally, I have tested roms contained Manila 2.5 landscape but without Doc Tab.
Results the same.
I think that all rom cookers use the same background of landscape support which has big problem with SD card with big files.
I hope at least someone is able to solve this issue.
Thanks for advices... I am going to try them and let you know...

Yes you right... I've left just garmin and there were no problems... searching...
Dears,
Problem is solved. I have no idea why, but problem was cased by folder named "htc" which contained my old cabs for win 6.1 (kaiser).
Thank you very much all of you for help and I am waiting for new roms...

YES!!!!
One of the first cooked ROM's for 750!! This is a good thing for all.
Downloading now.
No Office Mobile
Currious thing happened when I flashed, (SD Method), I have seem to have lost Office. Can't find it anywhere. Any guesses?
Searched again and under the windows folder, there are some blank office files like OneNoteMobile, pword, and pxl. All these I can use, so it seems that the icons for word are missing in the programs folder, but the program itself IS installed. I wonder if the SD flashing method has something to do with it. Will reflash and see.
I too have lost Office programs. I also cant find a battery indicator without going to the power function.
Other than that, this ROM is fast! I will let you know about the stability in a couple of days. But its working great. Thanks
for some reason I have the gay volume icon on my top bar and it keeps on showing my volume as all the way down and I can't hear when people call me
g8..custom rom!!! looking forward to use it but it seems little buggy..anyway u can transport the bluetooth files from wm5 to this custom rom?? my tomtom6 works well with wm5 only
I'm sorry
It's my mistake. I'll fix it quickly.
Thx.

I deleted Palm's BatteryIndicator. It cause a trouble with some key customizer. There are many software to display battery information more accurate.

I ported System Files from double_ofour's Wizard ROM Kitchen. Unfortunatelly, I do'nt have TOMTOM.
BTW, I can give other features,
Delete PorkPie service(Auto Configulation for connection settings)
Delete Messaging(Pocket Outlook handles SMS only)
Delete WiredCarKit
Delete VoiceCommand
Does anyone need UltraLite Edition?
P.S.:I've fixed Office Issue, now. And I'll post it later
well I don't care about the battery icon being gone because I use pocket plus 4, but is there anyway you can get rid of the volume icon on top because everytime I touc it, it will mute my phone.
I'm using PocketPlus4, too. The smart scrolling feature is FAST FAST FAST! Amazing! I have Kaiser, but I like it than HTC touch feature. I'm going to cook Kaiser ROM to kill touch driver for PocketPlus4's smart scrolling

is there anyway to get it without using rapidshare... I have got that site to work

I think that Palm hasn't copmplete optimizing OEM package for WM6 yet, because of the OEM packages version 5.1.xx.xx.
It is difficult that all the Palm's features are suited to new AKUs.
To delete Palm's PhoneLookUp, your IM program may work.

feedback
First of all thx chaimd for your effort and time:
I had some sparetime tonight to flash and test your customrom.
I only flashed your OS and left the orginal (latest) ROW radio, at first all seems okay but I then when driving around I noticed that my navigation software (TomTom 6) was acting weird. Mainly strange (not complete) screen updates, loss of connection to BT GPS and missing parts on the screen. As this is a crucial function on my treo, I did no further testing and flashed back the ROW OS. After this TomTom 6 is functioning normal again.
Guess I will wait a while, till these little speedbumps are history.
Again, thx for your time
Kind regards
marl
I was wondering if you could take a look at an issue for me...
I use a car kit via Bluetooth (Parrot CK3100), and the phonebook doesn't automatically sync from the phone to the car kit correctly. Instead of syncing the phone book, it only syncs contacts from the Speed Dial plugin. Even if I have Speed Dial turned off from the Today Items.
It's obvious that the phone has a working Sim Access Profile (rSAP), since it uploads the carrier name, battery level, and signal level to the kit; it's just pulling phone book entries from the wrong location.
I have no idea even where to point you to, since I have no idea how the inner workings of Windows Mobile mesh together...
Here's to hoping you can come up with something, it would be totally awesome!
I used thaihugo ROM as base for this. Thanks to thaihugo for providing this.
I added GoogleMaps, YouTubePlay, VicSoft Clear Temp, Adobe Reader LE for Diamond. Replaced current USBTool with modaco ShiftPack.Liberate. This fixes the Registry setting needed to install cabs. The only registry setting you need to do is changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang value to your keyboard. You can find those values in plirom 2.00 thread.
I have also placed links to USBTool under Programs\Comm (thaihugo ROM has here) and also under SnapVue Settings (ShiftPack.Liberate does this). Here in SnapVue Settings you will see a link to SoftReset too. This is exactly what Shift.Liberate does currently whenever you liberate using modaco's procedure.
Memory:
Free Storage: 28.58 MB
Free Program: 21.21 MB
Here is the link to download RUU_Signed.nbh
Use CustomRUU.exe that is available in thaihugo and plirom threads.
The next upgrades to this ROM are HTC Voice Recorder, once I figure out how to enable the microphone, .NET 3.5, Screen Capture, and HTC official YouTube Player replacing YouTubePlay. I am also planing to remove original calculator with 1-Calc.
Disclaimer: This is a cooked ROM and is supported by neither Microsoft nor HTC. Neither I nor the ones from who I learned how to cook should be held responsible for any malfunctions or irreversible damage that may cause by flashing this ROM to the device. Use at your own risk. Bottom line, I take no responsibility for the damages that may happen to your device by flashing this ROM.

Hi Martiare
There are two ways
1. you could use external bluetooth receiver that your vista side could use to connect using BlueTooth or USB, easiest and fastest way of doing it.
2. If you wish to use internal GPS of Shift then, you need to install either thaihugo's ROM, pliROM or RamROM, which can be downloaded from this forum (search is your friend). Once you install them, you have multiple options, but the one I use is using Franson's GPSGate Client for Vista and WinMo. I bought this for $49 and I feel good investment. Install GPSGatePPC on WinMo side, and GPSGate on Vista side. Configure GPSGatePPC to work on ActiveSync. Configure GPSGate to receive signals from ActiveSync. And install Maps software such as AutoRoute or Micosoft Streets, Earthmate etc. on Vista side and thats all.
Thanks

First of all let me thank you and all other "cookers" for your continuous effort. I've been following the birth and the growth of quite a high number of ROM's, and I still can't understand if it's a good or a bad thing... I mean: surely everyone that flashes a newly cooked ROM acts as a beta-tester for the "chef" and for all other users that don't dare or simply can't flash a new ROM each week. Moreover each new ROM, even if adds some (in)compatibility problem, solves many others (just think about the possibility to use GPS). And this is the good part of the situation.
On the other hand I feel a bit confused. Each new ROM has many good things, but lacks in others, IMO. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but for instance I would really like that PliROM's home could be the standard for each other ROM. And that's just one of the things that I (and each one of us) could point up.
May I suggest to write down a list of the components and let a survey start? If 90 people over 100 should prefer PliROM's interface instead of original Shift one (again: it's just an example), why to continue developping ROMs with other interfaces?
I say this because I'm absolutely unable to cook anything, and I think that many of us can't.
Of course I'll go on flashing new (stable) ROMs, trying to beta-test , at least for a few weeks... than I'll have to go back to work and I wouldn't run the risk anymore to loose data or hardreset
Pure Snapvue
Hi Sai ;
Even though the user interface is really limited , i -personally- prefer using snapvue ...
So ... is there a way for you to
-either let me know how to disable the top bar with the start menu on your liberated rom
or
-cook a rom only cab-install and gps enabled , so that i can go on my own way...
My very best regards
Safak

Hi Ram,
Thanks a lot! If you can cook the 2nd CHT version with the updated GoogleMaps will be perfect! One more request, can you use pli6128's plirom v2.00 WWE 1.22.405.0 96dpi to cook the CHT 2nd version? Because I tried and feel it's user friendly and the key buttons for both contacts and programscan be address. Also, I found it stable too.
Thanks.

For free GPS Tracking in Google Earth, and Google Maps mobile, checkout http://www.reperion.com and choose basic, free download.
You don't need to boot vista to see your realtime tracks, all you have to do is import your Reperion KML network link to Google Mobile Maps !
It will give you much much more than just tracking... check it out

http://geocool.reperion.com/web to JOIN for an account.

Installed and working. Just one query about the GPS side though.....
I'm using a UK version of the shift for starters that is only a few months old. I've fllashed the Rom as above and also installed the GPSGate software on both sides. That all seems to be working fine and the WinMob side has found the GPS Module on COM4 and is receiving data but no location. After having read the other threads I appreciate you have to stand in the middle of a field for i to pick up the satellites. Unfortunately I have tried this and it still isnt picking them up. Is it possible that HTC has now stopped installing the GPS Antennas in recent Shifts (no, I haven't opened it up to look)?
Any other ideas?

in HCTC GPS Tool (Settings tab) press Open Button, in the lower part you will see some scrolled text, when you run GPS software for the first time you have to wait for 15-30 minute to recieve the signals, then go to Satellite tab the no. of satellite used must be 3 or more to get your location, thise what I did, hope it is the correct way.

I agree with you completely. I don't think they would have removed it. It may be some issues with the position or something related to GPSGate configuration. I also come into issues where it would take good 15 to 20 minuts to lock my Shift for the first time especially with overcast skies, evenings and inside the building. I may be wrong too, HTC might have removed the GPS altogether in the newer systems, but that would be a drastic step for HTC. If they do so, I would suggest buying RAON Everun and tether it with a Kaiser or Hermes would be cheaper. You would have a GPS receiver on your WinMo, and have bluetooth, SD, Wifi handy and you could connect your Everun to that and it fits in the pocket, eventhough the screen is nearly 5" as opposed to 7". But that is cheaper alternative and runs on more manageable XP. And installing GPSGate on WinMo and XP gives me to have the GPS on bigger screen.
Thanks
Ram
Got the GPS Tool running again. It's hovering on Sat 32 and 14 with the odd scan of no. 1 on its own. Going to leave it on the windowledge overnight as the field isn't really an option!
I'm used to using a Garmin Zumo on the motorbike that takes seconds to find the sats and TomTom on my Hermes in the car and also it's own in-built Toyota Effort. None takes this long to find satellites.

But it is fun, isn't it!!!

Yep, it is kind of slow, once you get the location fixed, and it uses 2 satellites, the things move pretty fast. I have quite a good number of GPS devices, and all of them are pretty fast when compared to this.
Thanks
Ram
So the GPS Tool locked up the WinMob side , it mustn't have liked being left on all night! Pulled the battery and reset. Hey Presto the sky is full of satellites tonight and all is working fine!!!! It takes ages to take its initial reading of where everything is, has a real good think about it and then decides to work.
Now looking forward to any future incarnations.
Many thanks to all
Just added Manilla 2d (beautiful), however, there are times where there is a 2-10 second lag to choose programs, options, ect...running on a tilt. Anyone have the same problem or can offer a solution?
You phone doesn't have something like Core2Duo or Extreme to work snappier
Everything lags on a tilt. Screen flip, parsing emails, opening web pages. Blame it on Windows Mobile because I think our phones have plenty of processing power. I've used just about every ROM ever made too.
As far as Manilla 2d, I have it installed and it is randomly laggy. Not to mention if I try and send a text and switch to landscape it goes back to the home screen or if you open the browser it puts white crap on the "browser" tab.
The Kaiser has given me more headache than it solved really. The only thing I have to look forward to is google android (if that even happens).

are you using a stock ROM?
If you are using a cooked ROM check for what SPL you are using. Search for different versions, and for reasons for upgrading.
I had the same problem with WM6.1 screen touch lags, Touchflo2d lagged by seconds changing tabs, and most everything ran slow. I upgraded to newer SPL and very little lag now. Still once and a while but noting is perfect.
Since you are posting in the rom section I presume you have rom based manilla, I had the same problem as you.

Depending on which hardspl you have installed you should try a different one if you have 3.29 try 3.56 and vice versa. Download them from here ( dont use force USB) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY
if that fails, download the newest rom and start from scratch and use PIM backup so you dont loose any of your info. Dont use sktools to back up messaging when you restore it it wont let you use it. If you start from scratch use the latest jump spl from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
Dude, i don't know what your smoking but manilla 2d works like a dream on my tilt. just remember to soft reset like every day or so.
Currently using AthineOS v1.6.4b[Beta] ROM with SPL 3.29...LOL on the smoking comment...that would have been good if soft resetting every day wasn't so ridiculous...

Most of the lagging is attributed to Manila2D files placed on \Windows directory. You need to:
- move Manila2D images to a different directory other than \Windows
- change the settings (in HTCHomeSettings.xml located in \Windows) to point the images to the directory where you've put the images.
Check out this thread on editing the xml: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427531
I started up this thread for any Kaiser user who uses, develops or does anything with Touch flo 3d Qvga (I Know there are other threads about these programs, this is to bring it into one place).
Posts on Applications, themes or anything for tf3d-qvga-3 and Touchflo 2d v 2.0 build 1919 is welcome!
Here is the kaiser D3D Driver.
If any Concerns Contact me at: [email protected]
I found a Standby App that shuts down TF3D when you power down:

I thought Touch flo 3d doesn't work on Kaiser? Did someone get it working?

It works, it just doesn't work very well. TF3D needs the HTC-Class Action drivers, which are incompatible with all ROMS running the 101MB RAM hack. In addition, even if it does work on your ROM, a bug with the drivers prevents the device from entering standby while TF3D was enabled. A mortscript was made to disable it when the device was suspended or going to suspend, but it still took awhile and sometimes didn't work at all. Then, it would resume TF3D after waking the device, which also took awhile and intermittently worked.
There was a thread awhile back here, which put all the information in one place, so check it out if you're interested. But the way I see it, until fully working ATI Imageon/MSM7200 drivers are released for our devices, TF3D is unusable. If you want something that works well though, try the newest Manila 2d from the HTC Mega, which has the flipping clock and some of the looks of TF3D without the problems, and with this installed, it looks pretty similar.
Last nite i managed to experiment and install TF3D! on my htc tytn II, i used Unholy's Gaming Rom which doesnt have 101 ram and has D3D Drivers built in, i have to say for stuff thats experimental it does work quite well, its responsive and looks fantastic, it does take a bit to initialise once u come out of standby/sleep, but other than that i had a total ram usage of 50% used, 50% free which wasnt too bad, i think a fully working TF3D for our Kaisers is not too far away, as long as development continues, big up to da guys who have made this possible!
The problem seems to be that the drivers are in terrible shape. Doesn't work with roms using 101MB ram hack, and it won't allow the phone to go into standby.
How different is the MSM7200 vs MSM7201A? If devices using the MSM7201A chipset can run Touch Flo 3D just fine, then why can't we just take the drivers from those devices?
If someone has some experience with hacking drivers, I bet you can get those drivers working. I bet someone from Beyond3D could do it.

Is This the standby program? if it is, the program doesnt like the backlight settings in. try turning them off. another way around this is to program one of the hardware keys to <none> then when the backlight turns off, push the button. it should turn the backlight back on.
it took me ages to find how to fix this problem. its painful but its worth it
Hope this Helps
Makes sense

re
doesn't work on my device..
One thing i know about Manilla... be it 2D or 3D... is that it's never the same instaling it, or having it cooked in a rom.
You'll never have the same stabillity... functionality even.
We could, of course, have a cook try and give us one very simple 6.1 rom with manilla3D cooked in.... it would be nice... just as a proof of concept.
Laurentius26...think that was is nick, once attempted it...
Now... that developments which i'm NOT aware now, like KaiserGL, VG and such...
stability...
i guess its how you choose the right files to flash and how you flash it because i did noticed different owner with same device, manilas and ROM but getting different results...
Hi.
Which Rom are using??
i'm using stock ROM 3.29
Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
