nandroid question - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I wanted to restore to a different backup, not the latest one, how would I do that?
Thanks

Brows the nandroid folder on your sdcard and move the one you want to the top of the list.

Or you can flash Amon_Ra's recovery, it lets you select the nandroid file that you want. It is just a modified, more functional version of cyanogens, which i asume your using.

Clockwork backup

Using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 what option do I choose to backup my current ROM? When I go into backup and restore I have multiple choices and I am not sure which is approperate and where it says Restore All (Be careful)....I decided I better make sure what exactly I am to back up and restore?
I believe the warning to be careful is because you do not want to restore system data if you are not on the same base rom. If you are just creating a backup so you can restore settings on the particular rom you are on, then back up all. If you are looking to backup apps, use titanium

Are you in the Recovery mode or in ROM Manager? In ROM Manager I just choose to backup current ROM, then it restarts into recovery mode and does all of the work for me.
I am in recovery, not ROM manager but I guess I can do it through there too. As long as I get it backed up, thats all that really matters I guess. I want to do a backup so if I go to a new ROM I want to try I can just restore my existing one if the new one doesnt work out.
I've done that through rom manager with no problem. To me, that is the safest path. Good luck.

[Q] Sexy ASOP 2.3.2 help

I just installed this ROM on my Alltel hero. It works great! However, I'm still trying to get mms to work. Before I upgraded clockwork recovery to 3, I could use this file. But now it won't let me use it as it says the scripting needs to be changed.
I can't get this to work. My MMS has been an issue with the CM ROMS, but I had a patched file that allowed it to work on the old Clockwork recovery. Like 2.5.5. But when I put CM7 on, I had to update clockwork to 3.x.x. Now I cannot flash this zip.
It says this "Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recover. Please switch to Edify Scripting (update-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages. Installation aborted"
Can anyone help me with this?

If someone could direct me to a fix, that would be sweet as well!
same problem when i try flashing stuff
I flashed with the old clockwork just fine for me.
Is your zip file just apn settings? There is an app called apnbackup you could use but need to nandroid back to backup

I'm not sure...I didn't make the file?! haha any thoughts?
ClockworkMod 3 and ClockworkMod 2.5 can't flash the same zips.
To flash the one you want to flash, you need to either go back to ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1, or make your current zip flashable with ClockworkMod 3. To do that you can just get any zip that is flashable with 3.0 and put in your .apk and flash. There is a guide somewhere in the forums...do a search and you'll find it...in fact there was some talk in the GB thread on this idea.
*Edit* Just saw that it's not an .apk file...however, the same idea still applies. Just find a zip that is flashable in 3.0, and add the apns-conf.xml into the /etc folder in that zip.
You could also push the file to your phone using ADB or Root Explorer on your phone.
gimme a couple minutes i will try and change it to edify for ya

Go back to ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1. Use ROM Manager
If you do that, that will also take care of your issue of flashing your zip

Yup, works fine. I use it.
You just need to format everything manually in recovery.

Well, file flashed, but would not get passed the HTC logo screen. I just did a nandroid, but didn't try booting into it after restoring. I am again restoring, and will try booting into it, to see if it was the backup or the .zip.
ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 will auto format everything for you.
ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1 you have to go to "Partitions menu" and select the following:
format boot
format system
format data
format system
Essentially, other than causing flash issues with almost every .zip out there, ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 just saves a few key presses I would go back to 2.5.0.1 and you will have far less issues.

Thanks! I will go back to 2.5.0.1 and then reflash the original mms fix and see if it helps. If not, I will be back to see why it works on froyo and not on GB

stock rom (rooted)

This is a clockworkmod back up of the Hero_C_Sprint_2-1.27.651.5_R mod!! I rooted then made this recovery. For anybody that doesn't want to go through the load of @#$% I had to go through to update my prl. Just unzip and put in the clockworkmod/backup folder on your sd card then you can install it from Rom manager or recovery.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22765899/stock.zip
Shows error code 404.
Sorry about that didn't realize it would take that long to upload to dropbox. Should be good now.

You don't flash it. You need to restore it - it's a nandroid backup, not a ROM.
Sorry, I'm new to this. I did download ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 using Method I, don't know if I did it correct. Did not see anything different then, don't know if I was supposed to. I did unzip your stock.zip but don't see the clockworkmod/backup folder. Do I use Rom Manage to install from Recovery. Hopefully only one last question, do you have the RUU 1.56.651.1. That is what was original on my phone and where I want to end up. I really appreciate all the help. I'll never upgrade again without thorough research. This has been a nightmare.

If you don't see the clockworkmod/backup folder on your SD card, trying backing up your current ROM first. That will create the folder if it doesn't exist. Then you put the unzipped files from stock.zip under the backup folder. Open ROM Manager, select Manage and Restore Backups, and then select the folder with those unzipped files.

He says it's rooted, so you shouldn't.
You won't lose root if you use it to update prl and profile, just don't click on update software. Then the software patch could revert you to stock.

Just download the file, unzip it to your tab to folder clockworkmod, but in to recovery, do a backup of your current setup just in case, and than restore a backup of the file you downloaded.
Is this rooted?
It's v3.2 or v3.2.1 ?

just reporting that everything went fine. I'm now on 3.2.1 (not rooted).. thanks
Thanks Yanluk, I've been waiting for this.
I seem to be missing something though. your backup contains files for example "system.ext4.tar" when I boot into CWM and choose to restore the backup it says it cant find the system file, it seems to be expecting system.img.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I extracted it to clockworkmod/backup folder, same as the backup I made of my existing ROM.
The backup I made works just fine, and restores without a hitch, the backup I downloaded fails to restore properly due to the .ext4.tar vs .img files.
What I'm trying to figure out is, am I just doing it completely wrong, or is my version of CWM/ROM Manager somehow different.
Anyone keen to write a small guide? Especially coming from ISI's CM9 Rom? Keen to try.
.tar backup means it was created with CWM 5. CWM 4 can only handle .img backup.
So you should use CWM 5.
This backup works like a charm, but the baseband is not updated, it's still P7100BUKDF.

1- Make a backup of your current ROM.
2- Put the folder in the zip file in clockworkmod/backup folder
3- If you were on isi's 4.0.4 ICS, you should also have cwm 5.5.0.4, if not flash this build
4- Boot to cwm and restore from the new folder.
That's it. Enjoy

The radio remains the same as what you had on before flashing this. To update the radio we need the original OTA file from someone who has received the update. Instructions on how to get it has been posted here in previous posts.
All above is right. You need CWM 5.X.X.X
To root download first file from first post (tabrooteasy.zip) here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386545
Put on your tab and install with CWM.
Thanks makbil and Yanluk, much appreciated. Will test shortly. I was copying the folder to the Clockworkmod\Download folder. no wonder it wasn't working
This Rom is from CWM 4.0.0.4. Rom is Rootet.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nlr768ivhnz3v62/clockworkmod.zip
Easy way to root
It's easy to root the update, especially if you are coming from isi's ICS ROM.
I'm assuming you have already flashed the OTA update to 3.2.1.
1- Download this file from New and Easy way to ROOT and CWM 5.0.2.7 thread.
2- Copy Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip from that file to your device SD card.
3- Turn off tablet.
4- Boot into bootloader. (Power & Vol down buttons)
5- Go into fastboot. (You should see fastboot at the top left of your screen)
6- Connect to your PC.
7- fastboot boot recovery.img (Recovery 5.5.0.4 recommended). Wait, the tab will boot to recovery.
8- Install file Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip
9- Reboot
10- Done!
Now you should have root on your device.
Which is the recommended Baseband for the 3.2 update? I am still using the P7500XXKL3 version?

Install Nandroid ZIP Woes

I can't for the life of my install a stock nandroid to my HTC One. I have tried everything and i can't restore it to the BM___001 nandroid. I need to restore it to stock and i am out of tricks. Suggestions?
Want to give some more details? Which custom recovery are you using? What commands have you been using? What errors you get?

I am trying to install the BM____001 nandroid with CWM. I put the unzipped folder in the right location and cwm does see it. I tried flashing the straight zip and it fails. I try flashing through ROM Manager and it fails. I will re flash to get error codes for you.

You can forget about the rest of your attempts. CWM nandroids are not flashed. Just report back the error you got when you selected the folder to restore.

I thought you said CWM could see it? Was that a typo?
I'm guessing you're on a 4.2.2 ROM? CWM still thinks your sdcard is at /data/media not the new /data/media/0. Move the clockworkmod folder into /data/media and CWM should be able to see your backups.

Got it, and have restored with the CWM backup. Now once it boots, the touch screen does not work. Previously i was on GPe 4.3 and have since updated the firmware.
Downloaded the appropriate BM OTA from the RUU collection and tried to install it and it gives me CID missmatch. I changed from CID 1111111 back to BM___001 and it still gives me the same issue. So i pulled the firmware.zip from the OTA and flashed it via rebootRUU. It flashed sucessfully (both times) and restarted. Still the touch wont work.
I am at a loss with this thing.
