car mode .. display orintation - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

HI...
I was wondering....
I have a car mount kit for my car.. and like to have my phone on it in the Landscape position....
Because.. of maps and navigation programs.
But... the other software are not easy to see when they are stuck in Portrait mode. example: PHONE... HOMEscreen.. or and Contacts ...
So.. is there a program that can put the PHONE into full Landscape mode...
Same as when other phones with keyboards are opened...
BTW... I have searched here and on the Market...
Thanks..

so far no landscape mode for sense has been made... i am afraid we need to wait for htc to create it...

The way I got over this problem is by buying a Brodit car holder for my Hero. I also bought a Brodit mount for my car. The holder has a swivel ball so that you can turn the holder and phone any direction you want. So when I want it in landscape I turn it to landscape and the sat nav automatically changes. When I have finished with the sat nav and want the phone etc then I just turn it back to portrait.

I am in Texas USA.. if that matters????
why??

you should be able to use car mode and navigation fairly easily then in that mode but i havent seen apps that can just force the home screen into this mode, the milestone has this feature i will keep looking through to see if its something that can be installed.

But how do you get Google Nav onto the Hero right now please?
And are you saying that Google Nav only works in some part of the world?
BTW that does not eally solve the OP's original problem does it?

I have installed the espresso 2.1 hybrid, I installed the apk for car mode from milestone dump, then the speech synthesis/text to speech, the very latest google maps and when i ask the phone to navigate via car mode to where ever in the uk it opens up navigation and tells me there are no driving directions, this is because its locked to the USA for the telenav licensing issue.
However.. if I install the brute patched version of maps it loads up the directions but as I only started on this last night im in doors and no gps signal so im going to have a mess about with on the way to work, I'm under no illusion that it will work properly as it supposed to me missing green arrows and certain bits as its patched but its a start!

yeah sorry i missed the bit out about the milestone that i got the apk files form already does auto rotate and im looking through to see if its something that can be added as when you goto contacts etc from the main car mode menu it stays in portrate mode.

thanks guys.. or gals...
well....
dont you think...
it would be pretty easy..
for a developer to make such a program..
the phone can do it... but just locked to Portrait!

great stopwatch/countdown timer program

Thanks, ive also been looking for something like this so i can use it to count down my time left on my Tacho.
Problem is, when its done, the alarm is too quiet. Would you be able to ask on the forum if he could make a configurable alarm sound so i could choose my own sound for example.
Also if you could make the count down time in full screen would be great.
Obviously all this is if you get the chance. Dont worry if you dont

I found if you hold stylus on the white part you get a menu that pops up. It allows you to set the stopwatch color (of the digits) and change the alarm. Those it seems the alarm sound has to be a windows media format. the only other option I had from my device was the dogbark file.
It limited but something.
Any chance on getting a screenshot of this app at all?

Thank you very much.
StopTime
I'll put a shout out for StopTime!
http://home.comcast.net/~jonsachs/#StopTime 2.0
It's free, and you can use any sound you want for the alarm (I think)
Has anyone used this successfully? DOES IT wake up the device when it is off?
Finally, the first post leads to a page that doesn't exist. Is this the same as Jonathan Sach's StopTime?

Me. I use WM 6.1 with this soft flawlessly. It keeps counting properly after Off-on or Sleep-on.
I'm looking for something where I can configure an alarm every 30 seconds or so. Anyone know of anything, I want functionality similar to the stopwatch Timer '08 for my Mac.
problems with Stopwatch
I downloaded the Stopwatch cab to my Fuze and found several problems.
1. It only goes to the second. Not much use for timing laps on the track, etc.
2. The Start/Stop button was partially covered by the Reset button.

I'm off on a holiday in 3 months and want to know how many days till I go just by looking at my phone (without opening a program hence the today screen) I have searched the forums for a few weeks but haven't found anything yet (but that could just be my searching technique!!).

[REQ]Flashing Light Around The Navigation Control?!

Well lets get to the point r8 away
I used to have the great Asus P525 before i switched to AT&T Fuze a month ago. Now, one of the things that i really miss since i changed my phone is the tiny little LED that used to flash when the phone/WiFi/Bluetooth was on. Which actually helped me big time to find my phone in the dark!
So basically im just wondering if any of u guys can kindly write a simple prog that trigers the .EXE file for the circular light around the navigation control (that gets executed once the phone is charging/fully charged) and make it run at specific intervals (i.e. every 3 or 5 seconds) when, for instance, the phone is on (a.k.a the flight mode is off).
Or at the very least, do the same thing with the camera flash on the back (the circular light around the navigation control is more preferable though ).
So..yea!
Im Looking forward to hear back from you guys

or is it possible to do the same thing through registry instead of using an application?
Really good idea!
Hmmm.... Maybe need special SDK for developing.
not the best way, but might work..
add an email account to your phone and send it an email. don't read it.
Text should work too.

No you cant get that to flash or light up.....but its definately feasible to get the circular LED around the navigation control to flash.
Anybody?!......
any help would be greatly appreciated....
Bluetooth n GPS flashing light
What would be nice is if the light would flash like it is charging while you are using, receiving/sending a bluetooth transfer as well as flashing when your GPS is on so you know you left it on....Would also be cool if the speed of the flashing would increase depending on the percentage of your transfer or speed of your signal for bluetooth or GPS or if you could get the leds to chase in a circle...not sure if that is possible or if having it for both GPS and bluetooth would cause problems but would be cool . (A nice app to bundle all these ideas in this group togeather would really be sweet maybe even get it to flash for other notifications.)
For crosslinking:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3827787
From what I understand, we don't have software control of that light yet. even if you turn it off for email notifications and such it will still flash

I can't confirm that! I had to turn on the notification for SMS/eMails manually on my HTC Raphael. Before the LED circle just would not light up at all.

Just one question, does "Virgin" appear on your lock screen? It doesn't appear on the lockscreen or notification bar but it shows up in Settings > About > Status. That's on Cyanogen Mod 4.17, on Hero it shows up as normal. When using an O2 SIM the carrier shows up as normal on Cyanogen 4.17.

Just curious, why do you want to run Skype on a device that has neither a microphone or a camera?
Because we can?
Once we get Bluetooth working in Nookie Froyo, this will become a relevant question.
I'm facing the same problem, even with the unlocked version of Skype, where I get the welcome screen, but nowhere to enter my credentials.
For now you can use IM+ to instant message people using your skype account, but it would be great to get skype itself working...

Are you running Nookie Froyo? or AutoNooter??? Just curious. I'll give it a shot on Nookie Froyo and see what happens. I agree though, probably worthwhile to start taking a look at this in the likelihood that bluetooth will be figured out soon.
im running auto-nooter and neither orientation works. I want to have skype to use it as a chat app because i want to use my NC as my school computer and that wont work unless i can kill time in class chatting on skype. plus i dont want to use my skype credentials on a third party app.
In my experience there is just enough of the button above the status bar to be able to press it.
And although we have no mic, you can still use it for chat.
I 2nd the use case of using skype as a messaging tool. It will be nice if/when I can get a bluetooth mic/headset and use it for calls as well, but for the time being I use skype regularly as an IM tool with individuals I work with around the globe.
@acomiskey
When I open skype, I can't see the button when the tablet is tilted either vertical or horizontal. Can you elaborate? Do I need to set my launcher to be full screen?

[Apk]How to replace HTC's Car Panel with Google's Car Home

This is a quick guide to show you how you can launch Google's Car home app and navigation instead of HTC's horizontally challenged car panel. While its simple enough to setup car home is not available on the market place for the DHD.

What launcher are you using? I quite like your homescreen and notification bar.
I presume DHD=Desire HD. I've got a Desire running 2.2 w/ Sense and I can't find/don't seem to have this My Locations/Car Panel app/widget.
-also, noticed you're from NZ, goodonya.
Very nice tip!!!
Now I can switch to another gps software on the panel and it can be in landscape!!!
I'm running Revolution HD by Mike1986 with Vistagamer's theme Desolution and couldn't be happier, Girlfriend wasn't so impressed with the background though
Edit: Yes DHD = Desire HD
And I found out a guy who posted the last version of CarHome, v2.2.1.4
http://www.mediafire.com/?8fkv48e9lpvx8d8
I already install it and it works fine
thanx for this !
