As someone who swaps roms out frequently but also keeps 14 gigs of music on his phone is there a place or additional partition i could set up to keep my music on so i can do full wipes before testing roms without having to spend 30 minutes backing up and then 30 minutes putting back my music

umm... do you format your sdcard every time you flash a new rom?
nope. I just know my music isn't found if i place it in a ext or a second fat32 partition and clearing only davlik before new roms still leaves me with fc's and more annoyingly an inability to use my contacts.

i don't understand what your problem is. what's your checklist when you flash a rom? wiping your phone doesn't touch your fat32 partition and wiping your ext just wipes your ext. so i'm not sure why you're hesitant to do a wipe.
Nobody knows what the hell your talking about. The only time you may ever need to reload all of your data onto your fat32 partition is if you repartition the entire card to modify your ext and swap partitions. Thats it. Otherwise the only other thing that you can do (as far as I know) is just back up your data to your computer. Problem solved.

We haven't lost OUR touch, everyone else just doesn't listen to common-sense anymore...
OP, if your talking about using all of these as ringtones and posing them after a wipe put them in the media>audio>ringtones/notifications/alarms folders on your sdcard (If you must, then make them)

i sure hope he isn't talking about ringtones because if he has 14 gigs of them he's got two problems:
1: why has he kept his secret of 14 gigs on his g1?
2: he has WAY too many ringtones.

Wow thats a LOT of contacts for one person, damn this sum undercover shi...You need to lower the amount of contacts you have OP.Or stop having so many songs what is that like 1K+ songs?
Sorry i'f im not being very clear. i'm sitting here with a flu and my thoughts aren't flowing very well.... lets see if i can pull it together briefly. I know wiping / factory reseting is not supposed to remove the files. In fact they are still there but i can only see them under debian not when i try and view them under windows. My phones media player also seems to be incapable of locating them unless i remove them entirely and replace them on the card again. I have all my music backed up on the computer its the process of selecting the 14 out of 90 gigs every time thats annoying. If i'm just causing more confusion ill try again when im not out of it.
and no they aren't all for ring tone purposes......... i just happen to listen to music every free second i can and don't like carrying around a separate mp3 player.

Its actually faster moving everything off the phone on to my computer and then back then re picking what music to put on my phone. I'm blaming it on this 16 class 2 card. I'm gonna test a wipe on this 4gig class 6 and hope it leaves everything working.
well the 4gig card worked and i feel very very very stupid.... i've been using this sd card from day one on this phone .i just assumed it was normal to lose everything. Sorry for wasting your time.
Its ok atleast you learned something new.

Hi people, here's the problem that bothered me for long, about the ringtone reaction.
I'm using Cyanogenmod 4.1.999 the latest one on my G1, and had configured the ringtone with the files on my SD card (by an app called Ringdroid). The problem is, when there's a incoming call, usually the screen lights first, then the info of the call is displayed. However, after about 5 seconds or more, the ringtone starts.
Having had the issue with all older Cyan mod versions. But I don't think it's the ROM's fault, as I know that it may takes time for the system to *read* the file on the SD card. However, 5 seconds is too long.
Is there anything I can do to improve this? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Never used that app. If it's slow reading from the sdcard, it's the application's fault or your sdcard is sub-class 6. I recommend upgrading your sdcard to a class 6 if you haven't already.

its not the apps fault.
There are scripts somewhere in the dev section that changes the priorities so the phone rings faster. its a common problem
Yea I haven't done it yet but you can read up on BFS in the dev section. Also my phone was doin that and I cleared all data and cache and cleared the dalvik cache (See B-man I spelled it right this time) and that helped mine. In terminal type:
Code:
su
cd /system/sd/dalvik-cache
rm *
exit
exit
It will take awhile for the phone to boot back up so don't worry. For everything else clear it in your manage applications settings.

Yes, I do use a class 4 card. I'll try your suggestion, thanks.
Trying very hard to keep the Internal Storage on my Eris @ 50% . Wonder how low I can really go before I run into issues ???? Too bad I'm not rooted otherwise I would move/install some of my apps to my 16GB MSD card.

Just try to make sure you're only hanging on to apps you actually use versus something that was cool for like 10 minutes and then forgotten. I would also reccomend wiping dalvik cache every now and then. Also there's a cool little app called app monster that allows you to store apps on your sd card. you can't run them but if its something you dont want to get rid of then you can have a back up.
why does it matter if your internal storage is at 50%?
Maybe a bit of obsessive complusive (not saying this to be derogatory) mixed with hoping to keep his phone as fast as possible?
Don't know about the compulsive part, but yeah I am looking to keep my phone "mean and lean". I gather I can load up my phone with tons of Apps and not be concerned about how little storage space I wind up with. By the way I am a Windows person , and learned the hard way . Tis not the case with Android?
Yea, the system paths are set up a little different in that respect. What's holding you back from rooting? If you're leaked, I understand, and sympathize. If it's warranty issues, then you can always recover and go back to stock. If you aren't sure how to do it, well there are plenty of how-to's and helpful people here. Apps 2 SD is pretty nice, and that's just the beginning...muahaha.
I was leaked the day it came out in March ..just my luck . Just wondered about space. Saw/heard on another forum where someone ran out of space and ran into issues. To me this is the best forum to get positive answers
Help
I messed around with the SD Partition settings in the recovery menu (Thinking I was preparing my sd card for Apps2SD and now I'm only able to see 1.07 GB even after formatting through Android.
Any ideas where I screwed it up and how I can fix it?
did you try to format through recovery?
I took a quick spin through the recovery mode again (currently signing back into a fresh rom) but all I could see was a specific option for SD Partitions and creating them, nor formatting them.
Was it, by chance, under the Wipe section?

Partition you SDcard with 0 Swap and 0 EXT and you will be able to see the full card again.
IMO - You need a bigger card, they are cheap. Picked up my 8gig ones for 15 bucks.

Meh, believe it or not, I really don't need that much space. I prefer my ZuneHD as my media player so stuff doesn't really add up on my phone, plus, I'm not an app-aholic

To be fair, I'd rather not use a device that I depend on to stay connected to my business and my family as a music player. When it dies because I've listened to music on it the whole day and my Zune is sitting there fully charged, with a far higher capacity, and I realize I badly need to contact someone, I doubt I'd be smiling.
so you got a phone to make phone calls? Do people still do that?
Seriously, I've listening to music all day every day (either streaming pandora or with the music player) on my hero for almost a year. I wouldn't worry about it
I am an app-oholic and an audiophile. I carry my 120 iPod classic still, but only for the car mainly. I listen to Pandora most of the time, but get fed up with listening to certain "Genres" and want to listen to some truly shuffled music, I pull out the ole iPod.

So I have to reboot my Galaxy S about 10-20 times a day -- every day -- because it disappears all the time. I have an external card in there too - but that too goes missing.
Anyone know how to fix this ?
no one knows why this happens ?
no one has EVER had their SD card disappear randomly and have to reboot ?
I don't buy that.
Apparently the 51 viewers as of this post haven't had this problem.
I certainly haven't.
Maybe someone that has, will show up.

Might help to know what firmware and apps you are running.
maybe you need to format the card inside the phone using the built in format app. Maybe you have a fake card. Maybe you have bad phone, in that case get it looked at
happened to me for a few days too.
Went uninstalling everything (tried a bunch of podcast/rss readers trying to find something that could handle passworded podcast feeds) as well as the games I was trying out and a few apps.
Hasn't happened since so one of them had to be the culprit.
- Completely vanilla sgs-i9000m from Bell, just unlocked. Not even rooted.
I think I posted this in the wrong forum earlier. I currently have a Galaxy S4 and looked at the nexus 6 if I have to buy a sealed phone vs the new galaxy. Since everything is internal when making a nandroid do I need to transfer the nandroid to a computer then wipe? If I wipe the phone then how do I flash a new ROM if the internal is wiped ? Nandroid... Ok..... Then transfer is my guess to computer..... Then wipe then flash.... Except the internal is wiped.
Everything you flash a new ROM do you have to back up and transfer everything to the computer?
With the galaxy s4 I would just wipe the phone then load off the SD card slot.
Depending on what you wipe, and how you wipe, the data on your sdcard can be saved on the Nexus. For example, in a custom recovery, TWRP in the N6's case by default a factory reset doesn't wipe the sdcard.
^^ exactly.
TWRP knows what it should and shouldn't wipe. Unless you do it manually you won't lose the nandroid.
Plus, I've had a lot of issues transferring nandroid to a PC or SD card prior to the Nexus and have them work after the transfer.

I saw there is a Nexus Root tool kit by wug. Do you use this to back up your phone or do you still do it in TWRP ? When you back up a nandroid, are you completely backing up everything (photos, music, etc), then it is kept in a side partition "sdcard" that you were describing and the rest of the phone is wiped ? Prior with the Galaxy S4, the custom recovery (I used CWM) would wipe the entire internal phone and anything not on the MicroSD card was wiped.
Right now my MicroSD card is 32GB and is nearly half full.
You CAN use Wugs (and since you have 16+GB of stuff, I would) - otherwise a single nandroid would pretty much fill your phone.
Or... Dont keep as much stuff on your phone if you're planning on using testing out roms.

How do you usually manage your nandroid back ups and content like photos/music/etc ? Cloud or transfer to PC ? Does Wugs make nandroids directly to the PC so it's not eating up internal space ?
Typically when I nandroid I transfer it to my pc as it takes up way to much space on a 32gig phone.

I transfer pics/videos from my phone to my PC or private cloud on a regular basis - every other day or so. That way, should I take a video thats, lets say, 5-8 minutes long or longer, that is a lot of space, so I upload it when I get the chance and then remove it from my phone.
I dont include pics/videos/music in the nandroid as I can always put back what I want upon restoring it. No need for a senselessly large nandroid.
Same for anything else. I have 64 Gig because sometimes I go on vacations that are 2-4 weeks - and I take a s*** load of pics/video in that time. I would EASILY fill my phone in a week, that's why I never keep all of my s*** in ONE place, especially on my phone - which can quite easily be destroyed - and no possible method of getting that back. So I just dont chance it. I learned that on a cruize in the southern Caribbean - had a S4 at the time, with a 64GB card and maybe 40GB of video and pics of the first week all saved up, one night we were playing putt-putt on the deck - some drunk prick stumbled into me as I was taking a pic of my wife - over the glass wall it went. Into the ocean. Gone like a snowball in hell.
So... no, I dont keep much of anything on it without having it somewhere else also.

The current one Sprint holds is only 32GB although I may see what the new release is. I reviewed the unlocking of the bootloader and installing custom recovery. It is much easier than having to do it via ODIN for the S4. I am assuming that default the nandroid backs up everything by default unless you uncheck it otherwise ? I'm using google+ right now. What cloud servers do you use as an alternative ?

Manual internal phone transfer to PC with the USB cable ? Or do you use the Nexus Tool Kit to do it ?
