Writing 'Splash1' in update-script - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible? Obviously you can flash 'boot.img's but how about flashing splash images? It's always been something I've wanted to try.

honestly, i've found it easier to just flash the splash screens from bootloader mode.

maybe i just prefer the old days. i'm always up for a bit of fastboot and adb. scripts were never really my cup of tea, except of course the necessary ones.

Well i know splash flasher is easy, but I'm just wondering if it's possible. Maybe devs can include it in future roms, you know?

Trying to unroot but fastboot isn't working right.

I'm trying to unroot my G1 to sell it, but I can't seem to get fastboot to work. I've read the guide on how to set it up and all that, but my phone isn't showing up in the list of devices when I turn on it bootloader mode. All I'm really trying to do, is to erase the second splash image. If there's another way to erase splash2, can someone tell me?
Did you install the dev driver? Link is in my sig. Does ADB work?
Yes, I have. ADB works just fine, but for some reason I can't find my device on fastboot. Fastboot works on my MT3G though.
Dumb question, but you do have a flashboot enabled SPL on your phone correct?
Well, I'm running the Hard SPL, so I suppose so, but honestly, I'm not sure. When I go into bootloader the screen does have some small text saying fastboot, so I think I'm running a flashboot enabled SPL.
Anyone? Sorry for being hasty, but I plan on selling my phone so I want to get it back to normal as soon as possible.

But what about the splash screen?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491350
this guide tells me to erase splash2 and after I do that, I can start actually unrooting the phone.
All I need is to get fastboot working, or another way to get rid of the second splash screen.

Did you install a 2nd, custom splash screen? If you didn't then you don't need to worry about it.
When you say 2nd custom flash, you are referring to, for example, cyanogen's right? I assumed that was the 2nd flash since its after the tmobile g1 splash

no, there is a way to install you OWN custom splash2. if you haven't done this you don't need to worry about it.

[REQUEST] Custom SPL?

I want to know if it's possible to make a custom SPL that lets us flash splash screens (what comes before your rom's bootscreen) among other things.
Thanks,

Well regarding the Splash screen, you can actually do that yourself right now without a new SPL.
Find instructions on that here

There are a few problems with that... I have no idea how to use git and I don't know how to make an rgb888 file.

Well, I followed the tutorial you posted and it didn't work. What I want is the SPLASH screen as in before Android starts.
Bump. I'm really interested to see if an SPL is possible. Darch, Decad, Jus1, you guys got anything?

You followed THIS?
You'll have to rip open the ramdisk, but the script esigned for extracting the ramdisk is different than ours, you'll have to use split boot.img and do the hex-editing yourself.
Anyways, I'll go mess with it a little bit since I'm finally done with classes for the summer. (THANK GOD)

Ahhh, lucky. I have finals week next week.
Got deep into this myself, created custom .rle files dropped them in the init.rc, I still get the stock 2.1 RUU green letters on white initial splash screen.
I got brave and tried a guide I saw for the G1 to flash the splash screen from fastboot, i get this
# fastboot flash splash1 /android/tools/mysplash.rgb565
sending 'splash1' (300 KB)... FAILED (remote: not allow)
I would love to be able to get it to work by playing around with the ramdisk, that way I could be made flashable, however I would settle for being able to change it from fastboot if we could get it to work.
to create the .rle is renamed mysplash.rgb565 to initlogo.rle and logo.rle. Not sure if this will work.

There's a tool called ez splash flasher or something, in the mytouch 4g forums iirc, but you need a 480*800 picture
Or there are some that you can just download and flash using pg32img method in themes and apps

Check this out.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/65606-how-creating-custom-hboot-flashable-splash-screens.html
Basically you need a tool to convert an image (BMP) into a specific format (NBIMG) which can be loaded by fastboot to flash into your phone.
You should update your radio too, while you're at it.

[Q] Stock Rooted Rom

Any way to get a stock rooted flashable zip? Even if it doesn't contain root. I am not sure how they are created.

take a few minutes and root your device. you fastboot unlock your bootloader, fastboot oem device. then you flash a recovery, then flash the supersu binaries in that recovery, then boot up. thats it. now you have a stock rooted rom.

Is there a reason for this? Is it just the amount of time the phone has been out? It just seems that I used to see Stock Rom .zip's for Stock everywhere on every device i've owned that had an unlocked bootloader except for this phone so far.

Primarily because, factory images are provided by Google and flashed with fastboot. In the same fastboot session, you can install custom recovery. Then boot to recovery and flash SuperSU zip.
Takes less than 5 minutes.

This thread is old. At the time, there were no rooted stock roms. There are many by now and everyone can see them all in the android development forum. Generally, digging up old threads doesn't serve any purpose becuase the questions are no longer valid, thus answering them is superfluous and just adds to forum clutter

Two minutes! Ha! If only! Rebuilding the dalvic cache (is it still called that?) on first boot takes my phone like 5 minutes alone...
My problem with flashing factory images is having my /sdcard/ wiped. Is there a way around it? Like a way to flash /data/ without touching /sdcard/?
Backing everything up, transferring it to my laptop, flashing the image and twrp, booting, transferring everything back and restoring my TiBu takes waaaaaayyyy longer than just flashing a zip and restoring TiBu

Yes. If you're simply updating, just flash the system image and boot image if it's updated. Same goes for bootloader and radio. If you don't flash userdata, you won't lose data.

Of course there are tons of boot animations available.
Here Im putting the mtz file containing Custom MIUI boot screen.
I am NOT talking about boot animation. I am talking about the MI logo at the beginning, with the "powered by" screen
there is a partition called imagefv which can be extracted from the phone or either from a ROM, in it there's all the images from the bootloader(charging animation, locked bl start, unlocked bl start), however the partition appears to be signed with a certificate, so someone who doesn't use their phone as main would need to try it
Well, definitely not me but thanks for that discovery.
