Black screen on camera

I have the at&t tilt with wm 6.1 installed from manufacturer. When I enter camer mode I can see all menus but where the preview should be, it is black, when I take a picture it displays an error. Have never flashed or modded anything. I tried to resolve the problem by using different camer cabs, didn't fix anything. It is covered by warrenty but don't think it is anything I shouldn't be able to fix. Anything help would be great!
Thanks,

Did u try to make a hard reset?
I would also download the latest update from htc and install it if the hard reset does not work, but fair warning if you do end up doing that you should back all your data up because it will clear it out....
Yes I tired a hard reset, a soft reset and a "hardware reset" as recommened by HTC. Still nothing....
Also I have already went to the HTC went, typed in all of my S/n number and everything and it said i have the latest version of everything.
Hi,
I've also the same problem.
I've loaded WinMob 6.1 update from HTC.com. Now the camera is black
But when i take a photo, it works - only the live-preview is dead!
Someone knows a solution?

I had the same problem. I found an camera cab on here and it fixed it. Search for 'HTCCamera 5.04.29195.00'. It might not work for everyone but it worked for me when my preview disappeared.
Hi,
thanks for your message!
I've searched for the cab, but i haven't found something like this.
The cab is only included in some ROMs - is it possible to download without a complete ROM? Do you have a link?
/Edit: yeah, the cam is now working! I've done an video call and since then the cam is working perfectly!
This could be the solution...

[Q] Galaxy S screen keeps blinking?

Hi, my SGS is working fine all the while. But sometimes after i unplug the power adapter upon fully charge, the screen keeps blinking in the way like loading home(loading icons)->black screen->loading honme-> black screen->.....
it repeats for very a long time, even if i manually screen off then unlock the screen, the blinking problem still repeating. Until i reboot the device, it works fine again... Happened once in the middle of playing game, it suddenly 'jump' to home screen and the blinking problem begin
Wonder if this related to system crash and cause home screen keeps loading on and off or hardware problem... did anyone experience this?
I've never heard of this before. To diagnose whether it's a hardware problem, your only bet would probably be to flash a clean firmware. Maybe someone will have heard of this though.

Try a stock firmware, that should tell you whether or not it's a hardware issue. If it isn't, it's probably kernel related. Hopefully you can figure it out!
i have got the same problem too.. =(( how to fixed it.. the screen keep blinking...
Flash stock firmware . Then if its fixed pls report here.

I've flashed from 2.1 to 2.3.6 and still it's blinking
Does anyone know how to fix it?
same issue
hi,
i have the same issue as well with 2.3.6, BaseBand version I9000XXJVU.
It is not a stock rom and it started appearing just a few days ago. It happens when i plug to charge it and after unplugging it. I have not noticed when it stops.
A friend of mine has the same issue, but with 2.3.4 stock firmware, so i think it is not firmware related.
Any new info on this? what could i provide for further troubleshooting
Main issue is of course that it drains the battery quite much and also allows you to mistakenly unlock the phone when the screen is on, so i was forced to put patter or PIN lock.
Cheers...

If you have ChatOn app try to uninstall it. Did work for me. (I my case the issue appeared when the internet was accessed via any browser. Same blinking pattern though)

[Q] Help Pls!! Two Problems wid my Nexus One..

Everything was going fine on my Nexus One (CM 7.1) when 2 days back I dropped it. It wasnt a deadly drop. Just a casual one on the screen though. But nothing seemed to have hurt it badly, internally or externally.
After two hours it started restarting. After restarting it would be at desktop for 5 seconds and reboot again. it happened again and again. I flashed CM 7.1 over it. Same thing kept happening. Then i flashed CM 7.0.3. It worked. But i whenever i make a call the screen goes blank immediately and doesnt show up anything even after call is ended (by other person as i cannot). Even after call, i press all the available buttons but no life to it even though it is on.
I tried OxygeN1 rom. Its working good but the problem after every call continues.
Has anyone faced such a problem and any solution?
I noticed that i continue to face 5 second rebooting problem with CM 7.1 and Bugless Beast (by Peter Alfonso) Roms. Can anyone guess the reason?
My camera has also stopped working since then. Shows as
'Camera Error - cannot connect to camera'
Pls help with this also. Tried all the possibilities such as memory card format and other solutions on
Cannot go to HTC service center due to unlocked bootloader.
Pls help guys..need it badly.
I am facing the same problem.
I guess it has to do with proximity sensor not working.
I flashed MIUI ROM and in the settings there is an option to disable proximity sensor during call.
After this i am not seeing blank screen, but the camera still doesnt work!!
I had a similar problem after a drop.
Camera & flash had stopped working.
Nothing helped until I took it to the HTC Service Center.
They said some flex cable had to be replaced. Camera / flash working great after this.
My phone was an out of warranty Nexus One with an unlocked bootloader. They repaired it without a murmur!

Screen Issue - Occurred again

I've got a very strange issue with my note's screen, which just occured when I was on a call.
As soon I removed the phone from my ear, instead of turning back to the screen, it kept black and (mostly white) pixels appeared on the screen. However the phone itself was still responding to commands.
Restarting has resolved the issue for the time being and I just wondered whether this is a software issue (using CheckROM) or if it's a hardware one?
---------------------
Update
The issue occurred again. I've posted some photos in my latest post
Had a Problem like that appear randomly to me too, it didnt happen to me again though and i was using stock rom too, but if this problem is continuing then respond on the checkrom thread and explain the problem there. As u have a note, try making a screen shot if it happens again with your s pen, if the screen shot looks normal then its your display having issues, if the black screen with the white pixels appear on the screen shot, then i guess its the roms fault
Issue just occurred again!
This time it happened after installing Darky Note ROM
I took a screenshot and it looked absolutely fine.
I've attached some photos of the phone when the issued occured, notice how the screen gets brighter.
Could this be an issue with the display driver in the ROM, as if it was a hardware fault, shouldn't the screen be like that permanently?
it is definitely software.. darkyrom is copy of check rom

I've cleared the data and cache in Recovery and reflashed the file, yet the same issue keeps occurring.
It seems to be happening everytime my phone goes to 'sleep'
is it also happens on stock rom or any other roms if not then its because of rom
Hi there, I think it's a problem related to the kernel, not because the rom itself.
I had that problem, related into another thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494555
solved by flashing another rom at first, but when changing the rom, the problem came back.
Today I just downloaded another kernel and that solves the problem.

What a relief it's not hardware related

[Q][SOLVED]Weird camera problem (image but unresponsive buttons), any ideas?

Hello to you all,
I've looked and couldn't find a similar thing happen to anyone else!
So, I have a X8 with locked bootloader and stock Ginger DX 29, and although it used to work fine, I now am experiencing this problem with my camera.
Basically, the camera button isn't recognized to launch the app from the homescreen for a start, and then if I do open it from the app drawer, I can see the image fine, but nothing works (accessing the settings, changing from camera to video, taking a picture, etc) and after a few second I get a Close app/Wait kind of dialogue and I'm back to square one.
this is annoying because I tried pushing older camera.apks that I knew worked with no problem, no change. I tried doing a factory reset, no luck, flashing gdx again from scratch (didn't try the SEUS reset because it's a pain to root again and all that, and gdx used to work fine) I've also checked that it wasn't a hardware problem by mapping the camera button to an action in snesoid and it worked fine.
I don't really know what to do from that point! I was thinking maybe it's got to do with my image folder on the sd card, or something like that since it's the only thing that stays there throughout the wipes? Anyone knows what could be at fault? It's annoying not able to use the camera!
Thank you in advance.
Re: [Q] Weird camera problem, any ideas?
Settings ,applications, manage applications, find camera.apk and wipe cache and data.
If it doesnt help, try to download a camera app from play store and see if it works.
so, wiping the data didn't work, however I did two things : download a third party app and renamed my DCIM folder to another name, and one of them worked!
I'm suspecting the second one because as I tried my original app again, everything worked as well...
It must have been write protected for some reason, and that's why my camera app would be stuck at the begining I guess...
I'll try to copy my files back in the new folder that was created and see if it happens again.
Thank you!
Re: [Q] Weird camera problem, any ideas?

All done!
I'm still not able to use the camera button when on my home screen but I'm guessing it's a rom issue, as I don't remember how it behaved before...

i'vw never really experienced that before... so i can't help. just a suggestion though, have you tried using a different sdcard? if it still persists, maybe you're right and it's a rom issue.
