looked around and didnt see a post here in the g1 forum but it is possible to stream movies from your computer to your G1. just go to www.orb.com and your set. best of all its FREE!
can you be a little be more specific, it will be helpfull if you explein a little a couple of steps for this and how can you watch it on the g1.
note: I'm not trying to be ungreatfull
I just try it and is GOOD (running it, on my wifi) a little slow when watching a video but defenitly watchable, I think if they develope a software for the android like the one for Iphone this will be a killer application.
In order to use it you just have to download the software from the site and create an account, share your media files videos, mp3s, pics, documents and even your computer webcam. allow it in your firewall. Then just log in from your g1 browser, and you are good to go and enjoying all your files in your g1.
I used to use this all the time with my Wing and Tilt. Unfortunately, the video has issues. It doesn't work on the G1 through 3G as of yet. Rumors have it that Orb is in the process of developing an app... but that was spread around back in November. Who knows what happened with it since.
Be also interesting to see devices as PMP's with video out capabilities... something like vPOD's
I am able to get the video started over 3G but the video player keeps telling me "Sorry this video can not be played". I still hear the audio but the video always freezes on the first frame. Has anyone else tried this and got it to work?

Same problem I've had. I have been able to get a couple videos to play correctly, but I have not been able to figure out why they played and nothing else would. Oddly enough, even the ones that would play once would not play a second time.
you can do this with "gmote" also it much easyer
Androrb was just released. Check it out.
Has anyone been able to stream to the G1 using VLC?
I have tried using the same settings as the ones from the G1 video encoding thread (and lower), but it just won't play.
(I know the OP posted about Orb, but with such a generic thread title, this shouldn't count as off topic or thread stealing...)
I do want a DLNA / UPnP app for Android. I can get Tveristy working for streaming music, but it won't stream & transcode video.

I've gotten this to work in VLC in my LAN but not from outside yet. It took me forever to get this far, and I kinda just chalked it up as progress, and haven't done much with it since. Use the rtsp address in NSW or Meridian or whatever on your phone.
need to set h264 to 1,2 baseline and audio to aac in advanced settings first
Code:
:sout=#transcode{soverlay,ab=42,samplerate=44100,channels=1,acodec=mp4a,vcodec=h264,width=320,height=180,vfilter="canvas{width=320,height=180,aspect=16:9}",fps=25,vb=200,venc=x264{vbv-bufsize=500,partitions=all,level=12,no-cabac,subme=7,threads=4,ref=2,mixed-refs=1,bframes=0,min-keyint=1,keyint=50,trellis=2,direct=auto,qcomp=0.0,qpmax=51}}:gather:rtp{mp4a-latm,sdp=rtsp://0.0.0.0:5554/stream.sdp}
In your Android video player:
Code:
rtsp://local.server.address:5554/stream.sdp
Is T-Mobile blocking ports? I just tried that method in VLC and it works great with WiFi on, but with 3G I can't get anything.
Hi I upgraded my 9090 to WB 6.5 from Xplode latest release. I’m really happy with this and everything works fine except...
I can’t 3gp streaming by RTSP protocol. That mean I can’t see YouTube clips and my favourite SvtPlay, (Swedish television in PC/mobile), HELP.
I have tried to download patches and codec but can’t find something who works. I also using TCPMP player who can play 3gp-files but not streamed ones.
When I click on a video from YouTube then I get the message No support for the RTSP protocol.
Earlier with my WM2004 I could watch these videos...
Please help
Ola A.
Are there no one who can help me to se Youtube on my mobile???
you can try youtubeplay:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227
or search the official youtube mobile application,
or use coreplayer or tcpmp, there are a lot of options
Yes but I wonder why I need a third part program now when it was working in WM2004 but not in WM6.5?
This streaming technique is common so I think it’s stupid to not have them integrated...
that is true, but from what i experienced, there aren't so many people requesting streaming support, and also i once had a wm6 rom, that was capable of native streaming through wmp with an htc streaming app that came with the rom. since the rom space is precious, only commonly needed features can be integrated and sometimes http and rtps streaming is also destroyed by tcpmp, once you set the file associations.
another 3rd party app that just came to mind would be skyfire browser. it is great for surfing the net because it displays all the websites just like on the pc, with flash and java and php, and with it, you can also go to all the multimedia-websites and stream videos directly.
OK I’m going to try this app.
Why have IPod and Iphone a plug-in for their phones so they can see everything?
as far as i know, the iphone runs safari. that browser is not flash compatible, so it cannot display the player, youtube and other services use. the only way iphone users can watch videos like that is through the youtube app, which is a 3rd party software, nothing different from youtubeplay, except with youtubeplay you can also download the videos and play them with tcpmp or core, without internet payments.
please don't startle me by saying, the iphone can do anything, the blueangel can't (some minor hardware things excluded) the BA will always be better!
I asked why Iphone already have plug-in…. But not WM... I love WM not Iphone...
How can I watch paid videos on Chromecast ?
Right now it does not work for paid videos.
It only works with free videos
I am talking about paid channels for which I have already paid
Example: Willow TV
It gives an error 'cannot play this video, try some other video'
any pointers ?
Do you mean paid content from Play Store? Or from YouTube?

Yes that is what I meant, paid content from YouTube. In theory that is supposed to work but I have never tried it.

This is really irritating as I am unable to watch the content I have paid for.
If I am able to watch on my laptop I should be able to see it on chromecast as well

What methods have you tried? You mention your laptop... so I'm going to assume you've installed the Google Cast extension for chrome.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-cast/boadgeojelhgndaghljhdicfkmllpafd
Try:
Opening tab to desired site
Cast tab
Play video
Adjust settings as desired
What did you try in order to get the "Error:cannot play this video, try some other video." message?
---
Also, did you google your question? There is a support page regarding Paid content and the Chromecast.

I don't think this can be done, Google itself says viewing live channels is not possible
Yes I can use cast a chrome tab but it has its own disadvantages, in Google's own words:
https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3265953
I will try and open a ticket, lets see what they say..
Because they say we can see Paid channels if not live events
Are you casting paid content from the button inside the YouTube window on desktop Chrome? Or are you using the Android app? Have you tried both?

Willlow TV is live tv streaming. Chromecast does not support live streaming channels on Youtube. The only way around it right now is to use screen casting in Chrome.

I agree live tv is not supported but what about the videos uploaded by the channel.. I should be allowed to see them since they are not live
Have you been able to find a resolution?

Have you been able to find a resolution for this? It lets we match highlights but not replays.
I subscribed to UFC Select Youtube channel hoping it would work on Chromecast. The videos start playing but stop after about a minute or so with a similar message as the OP posted. Unsubscribed

Live streams could work but the Live Stream your talking about probably has some DRM method that won't currently work on the CCast.
Give it time though I'm sure all of those type services will support CCast when they get around to it.

YouTube doesn't support live streaming of any kind on the Chromecast or any of their other DIAL compatible apps on tvs and other devices. Why that is, I have no clue. It has been quite a while and they haven't said anything about live streaming so I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

Likely it has to do with the authentication involved, but it could also have something to do with DRM fears.
Remember that Chromecast is essentially a headless micro-computer client - so it's accessing the media separately from the device making the cast request.
It's like if I called you on the phone and said "Hey, go to this YouTube link" - your YouTube session would have no knowledge of my laptop's session, and if the link I give you isn't available to your account, you won't see it.
Not to mention CCast only supports Widevine and Playready DRM...
It would not surprise me to find that the Live Channels on You Tube are using some other DRM or Encryption method.
You should write to the channel your paying the sub to and get them working on CCast support.
I took my old dell laptop installed ubuntu and plex server. changed the settings to always keep on. installed RealVNC so that I can login from my current laptop.
showbox app to watch movies by using external player .. selecting allcast/avia and streaming to TV
Avia app -> add media > showing my plex server and all my movies are right there
Chrome browser -> casting tab -> was able to watch even australian open live with it
got some play credit smh and purchased classics in google play movies and able to watch 1080p in TV
when got bored, youtube, vevo, play music to chromecast
life getting awesome!!!
New App (needs Avia)
This may or may not be new but I only stumbled on it today.
Like Showbox (worse UI although not unacceptable) BUT with UK Tv shows thrown in as well.
MovieDroid on the playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lowlevel.moviedroid&hl=en_GB
You are welcomez.
:fingers-crossed:
Keep a look out for Tv Portal. Much like MovieDroid it's hit or miss on the mp4 format; however, I've peeped out their 2.0 version (which is in beta and has zero functionality). Once released, tv portal will rank up there, maybe even surpass, showbox (current epic app ever).
Try amazon app store or SlideMe Marketplace.
Please be careful about posting about services that violate copyright rules such as showbox and moviebox. If they are providing paid content for free, then you really shouldn't post on xda.
Thanks!
Today I was trying to watch a live YouTube stream from my phone. I got the message that live streams were not permitted on my Chromecast.
I then tried casting the same stream from my desktop. It worked. To verify that I wasn't just casting a chrome tab, I closed all of the chrome windows. The stream kept working.
I also tried casting the stream from chrome beta for android. I didn't get an error, but the casting didn't work. I just got a black screen on the phone and a YouTube screen on the TV.
Is there a way around this restriction? Can I cast a live feed from my android phone to my Chromecast?
Thanks,
Ken F

Being that live streams aren't supposed to work, either you got lucky, or they're working on it.
Not much you can do but wait to see if YouTube updates its info and/or capabilities.
Live streams work for me from my laptop but not from my phone as well. I don't think it's a mistake, I just don't think the mobile app has added that feature yet.
As I understand it the chromecast doesnt render the video but connects to youtube and plays a specially renderd version for the chrome cast, I guess this is not available live. When you cast from a pc the pc renders the video for you.
YouTube added this support on the Website just recently.....
Coming to an Android App near you at some point!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...romecast-but-only-from-the-desktop-right-now/
Private Videos too!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...lay-private-youtube-videos-on-the-chromecast/
Looks like the next Android and iOS will remove the live limitation to casting. They may be beta testing it by only offering it on the website for the moment.
I think u should remove it, maybe it is beta?
