Quick question about themes. - Android Themes

Hey, I have been thinking about upgrading my ROM from a 1.6 to a 2.1 ROM.
Is it at all possible to apply themes on a 2.1 ROM? This may be a stupid question, but I'm not all that smart when it comes to Android ROM's. All I know is how to flash it.

Sure it's possible, but you will have to find themes that are compatible with that ROM. Search around and see what you find.
Good luck!

Question about Themes and ROMs

Hi,
could somebody please tell me something:
I see here in this Forum, that there are a few of Themes, Lockscreens etc.
I wondered about, that this pieces goes only on one ROM.
Am I right, or isn't it so?
I did MoDaCo 2.8 to my hero and are very glad to use a theme and a nice Lockscreen on it.
Now I want to Upgrade to MoDaCo 2.9 and I see, that this Lockscreen and the Theme isn't for the new MoDaCo?
Why it isn't? What must be done to put that on new ROM?
And could it be, if the Themes are for 2.9 that it doesn't function on 3.0 or 3.5 or so on?
Must this themes and screens all Ported to every ROM?
Thanks for your answers. I want to understand that.
themes need to be ported when modaco uses a new base rom for his custom rom. when going from mcr2.8 tro mcr2.9 paul (modaco) used a newer stock rom from htc, and therefore the themes have to be ported to this newer version. if he uses a newer version again when going to 3.0 *probably* all themes need to be updated too. but tbh i don't see that happening, as htc announced android 2.0 for the hero, and i don't think they will release another android 1.5 rom before that.
Ahhh, thank you for the answer. Thats okay.
Where could I see that MoDaCo uses new ROM? And where does the new ROM comes from?
I still see one Update in the Hero History, that comes from HTC as a new ROM.
you can see here in the changelog, second post: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...m-core-chinese-with-tck-featuring-wavesecure/
that he uses this rom:
Moved base to 2.73.405.61

Is flashing from a new rom to an older version bad?

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I did a search but could not find anything so it may be a matter of how I worded my search. I am currently running Cyanogen 4.2.5. I upgraded to CM4.2.7, but decided to go back to CM4.2.5 so that I could continue to use a theme that I really liked. So my question is, is it bad to go backwards with roms? I have found a theme that I really want to try, but it was created for a much older Cyanogen rom. It was actually created for CM4.0.4. Is this considered a bad thing with the G1? Mods feel free to move this thread if the Q&A section is the wrong place.
My specs
G1/Dream
CM4.2.5
NabzHero theme
Haykuro's Danger SPL
DRC83 build
Moving backwards as far as ROM's go isn't harmful if that's what you mean by "is it bad".
If the theme hasn't been updated since 4.0.4 it will not be compatible. The build has changed from the ground up since then.
Thanks for the quick reply. Let me make sure I understand you correctly. If the theme I found was made for Cyanogen 4.0.4 and I flash the Cyanogen 4.0.4 Rom it still wont work because the build is different? By build do you mean the fact that I'm on DRC83 is the reason it wont work?
Thanks
Contact the maker of the theme and ask them to remake it as a Metamorph theme. Then it should be good forever.
I liked NabzHero too, but updates were kinda non existent. Enoch is similar, updates with in hours of the new CM version and is available via the CM updater.
Wish Enoch would change the tab for the drawer though...I don't like the way it looks.
Off to pm Enoch...
Simple answer: No, it's not harmful, bad, or wrong to go back and use an older version of a ROM. But, if you're using an old ROM, don't be surprised if something you find here that says it works on Cyanogen won't work--it may be intended only for the latest version.
The build is fundamentally different since 4.0.4, but you can still go back and use it. But, you may have to do a wipe from recovery before you flash it. Just try flashing 4.0.4 over 4.2.7.1, and if you get errors, reboot recovery, do a full wipe, and flash 4.0.4 again.

How do you use themes?

I am new, and have rooted my Hero and am wondering how i would go about installing the themes that i see located in the forum?
Thank ya in advance!!
Themes are usually specific per custom ROM. Since you're just rooted, I'm guessing you haven't flashed a custom ROM yet? If you have, the theme should say specifically what ROM it's for.
I see the popular ones here seem to be fresh, pure hero and the one i want to install with the theme is ALosyius 2.1 so i am seeing that i need to wipe before i install the new ROM with the theme
How do i go about wiping?
Also the original ROM that installed was by regaw, but i don't see a specific name for the ROM

[Q] Just rooted my evo last night, want some themes

Im new to this whole rooting thing and im wondering what do i do now? How do i get the themes on my phone? Ive only used tethering so far so can someone tell me where to go and how do i go about getting the themes on my evo?
You need to flash a custom rom that supports theming - some themes are flashable zips while some roms support direct theming as part of the rom. CM7 has the Theme Chooser which uses apks that were made specifically for the Theme Chooser. MIUI has the Theme Manager which uses mtz files. I'm not sure if there are any Sense roms that include something similar. You cannot theme the stock rom as it is odexed. If you want to stay on stock then you can flash the rooted stock deodexed rom. There are a ton of great roms in the Evo Development forums, so head over there. If you have any further questions, post them in the Evo Q&A forum. Do your research first and only ask a question once you've read the stickies and any noob guides.
You need to start with a custom rom first, then you can figure out how to theme it.

How to determine which Rom+Kernel+theme work together.

I have searched and looked everywhere for a good explanation but i haven't found it yet. Can some one be so kind to explain how you go about how to determine which Rom+Kernel+theme work together?
I have also read that people can choice between the captivate roms and the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 roms. What do you need to be able to do this?
Sorry about the question i am new and i hate ask the same question over and over, but i want to know.
Thanks.
Generally the devs package their roms with the kernels that work best together. For the theme, check the themes sections and in the title it will usually tell you what rom it is for.
To use an I9000 rom on the captivate you would need to flash a reoriented kernel so that all the buttons work properly.
the easiest option?
just flash whatever you want from the captivate dev section. all roms are already packaged with a kernel and modem, and most of them are already themed. if they arent, there is an entire theme and app section that contains themes, and they would be listed as being compatible with your specific rom.....
Trial and error. It is what makes XDA go round lol. We all must find what works best for each of us. There is no BEST combo. Just best for you and your device
