Hi,
As title. I wish to Sync my contacts from my Google account from a specific group but the default sync apps will sync all the contacts to my phone.
Is there a app that can choose which Google Contacts Group to Sync? Btw, the default Sync is it a one way sync or two way sync?
Thanks
Open up your contacts.
Go to "Groups".
Hit the Menu button on the phone.
In the menu, select "Sync Groups".
Select/Unselect your groups.
Thanks, I think the ROM I am using right now doesn't have this program Contacts as it is using People.
honestly?
wow ok
sorry replace "people" with contacts
+ he said go to your contacts not go to the app called contacts
You may find that the default groups dont sync from Google to your phone. It took me a while to realise this when I moved to Android in August last year!!
Basically the following default groups in google wont sync to your phone:
Friends
Family
Colleagues
Yeah, I know it sucks, but it is how it is!!
The only way I found to get round it was to create 3 new groups with similar names and use them INSTEAD of the default groups.
I setup the following:
My Friends
My Family
My Colleagues
This has worked well for me and all contacts in these new groups sync well.
I hope that helps?

hello, I'm switching from my beloved touch pro to the nexus one, but don't want to manually put all of my contacts to my new phone. is there a way for me to export all my contacts from windows myphone contacts to google and to the nexus. i tried just importing my contacts through my live account, but that only pulled the email contacts and not all of my phone contacts. I'll take forever to do it manually, and if I save them to my sim, I'll lose a lot of info. any help? I'm lost at this point.
I looked for a solution to this for a days. The best solution is http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work- up to now.
thanks. looks like exactly what I was looking for. I'll give it a try and report back.
I found that installing Google Mobile App on my Touch Diamond2 synced all my contacts to my Google Account and therefore automatically appeared on my N1.

There's many ways of doing this....
If any of these apply you can try any of these...
First you can just import them using bluetooth I'm sure. You could just 'mark all' or select all your contacts in your phone book on your phone and just send them using bluetooth to the nexus.
You could also import them into Outlook express and save them as a file and import them into gmail under contacts in gmail.
Or you could set up an extra gmail account and sync your phone's contacts to that account using Google sync and then export those contacts as a file and import them back into your main gmail account or keep them there and use that account to sync with your nexus.
Sorry for making it sound confusing but I'm coming off a symbian S60 V5... I know there's many ways of doing this
I dropped my HTC Touch Diamond down a storm drain, so I'm replacing it with the HTC EVO. My phone synced a day or 2 before, so I have all of my contacts online with Microsoft My Phone. I see no "export" option anywhere on the page. Any help/suggestions for retrieving and importing into the new phone?
I think the easiest way is to set up your gmail account as an exchange account on your Windows Mobile phone and set it to sync mail and contacts.
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
Then once you set up your N1, your contacts will sync automatically. I love this feature from Google as much as any other. You will never lose your contacts again, no matter what happens to your phone. Also, you can edit and add contacts in your gmail account online and they automatically appear on your phone.
DejaOffice will sync your Nexus contacts to Outlook via USB without going through the google cloud.
Is there a solution for exporting contacts from myPhone? I have broken my TD2 and my TD1 so I can't use that to sync the contacts to the phone and export them. If I could I would probably sync all my old text messages as well.
I am embarking on an approx 30 min task of copying and pasting all my 400 contacts from MyPhone to excel then I can import them. At least I get to tidy up my contacts and remove any duplicates.

This was great.. man u really helped me out..
Is your N1 syncing your contact's profile photo with their facebook profile?
Mine don't sync. I have to go to edit contact and do it.
N1 does recognize and pair the contacts with facebook profiles..just doesn't sync pictures.
strange!!! I have no problems with this... sync merges Google contacts & Facebook contacts along with the Facebook profile pics... unless there is a Google contact pic...
I have it syncing on some, but not all.
I have found the ones with problems either
A) Don't have a complete name in my phonebook
B) Have a different number in facebook.
Hmm.. quite wierd.
I am seeing a trend...
I was using HTC Sense 2.5 on WM. And all the contact whose photos were synced with facebook by sense 2.5, do not sync with facebook in android. And for some reason, gmail contacts (web, browser version) shows these pictures in contacts, but android does not.
I just deleted a contact's photo in gmail..and android instantly synced it with facebook.
im having this problem tooo! just noticed it today. i cant figure out why it wont sync tho!!....
You can go for this, worx nice
AddressBooker & exporting my Facebook Phonebook:
http://brad.livejournal.com/2398409.html
I find that Facebook only syncs people with first & last name on your contacts list. It doesn't sync only first names. I wish there was a way around that.
That is annoying, even my old blackberry would sync to partial names, and that thing is primitive in comparison.
Noticed a couple of things:
Address book names and facebook contact names have to be the same.
If you have a photo linked to the contact (i.e you synced from another phone to google and pulled the contacts back down) then you often have to specify that the phone uses the facebook profile pic rather than the pic held directly against the contact.
It's a bit of a faff around, and if you delete the pics from the contacts on your gmail account (as someone mentioned above) it should default to the facebook pic assuming there is one for the contact.
<edit> Also ensure you have facebook setup to sync friends into contacts. Facebook app -> Menu -> Settings -> Sync Contacts </edit>

This helped me. Thanks.
I could not add a facebook account directly in "Accounts", but enabling sync in the FB app automatically added it to "Accounts".
When my HTC Hero(GSM) was ky primary phone, I remember that I could have birthdays show up in the calendar, so I do not have to go to the Facebook application to see them. It was default on the hero but I can't figure out how to get it to work.
Also, I found myself envious of the new Blackberry Torch because through blackberry messenger, it adds your Facebook events to your calendar automatically. Does anyone know of a way to add this as well?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Two ways to do this that i have found.
One is to go to facebook on a the computer. Export the calendar, and then Import it into your google account. bleh
What i found today i think will do what you need.
Ebobirthday
can be found in the market. This will log into your face book account to sync with Birthdays. Then you can have it sync with the calendar inside the phone.
Hope that helps you somewhat.
This is sort of what I'm looking for, I still feel like there is a way to do this without having to resync that calendar information. Already in the phone if you pull up a contact, it does give the contact's birthday information, but for some reason it does not include that information in the calendar like it did on the Hero.
That app is a good temporary solution until I figure out how to get it to work just the way I want it. Thank you!
Edit: Playing around with it, I found a section in the menu that lets you add Calendars. In order for my Hero to have been able to sync birthdays to the calendar, there had to have been a Facebook calendar in that list, and there isn't one now. So I think to solve my problem it is just a matter of figuring out how to add Facebook to the HTC Calendar.
The simple question would be: what's the best way to sync all my GMail and phone contacts and have them be accessable through both platforms? How do you organize your contacts?
The more detailed explanation is as follows:
I use GMail a lot and have many contacts saved on my gmail.
I also have roughly 400 contacts (phone numbers only) saved on my HTC One.
What's the best way for me to sync the two? Some of the GMail contacts are also contacts on my phone.
I tried playing around with the sync options but ended up transfering ALL past e-mailed contacts to my phone. For example, I've e-mailed college professors 5 years ago one time about class and somehow their e-mails were synced to my phone as new contacts. It was a mess to clean that all up. And how would I prevent future e-mailed contacts from being saved to my phone?
At the moment the phonebook on my HTC One is set to only display contacts from my phone itself (so I don't see the contacts from GMail).
Move all your contacts to Google: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=Cm#contacts
That way it will backup your contacts as well as sync them to any device with your Google account.
Personally I have my phonebook set to only show Google so I only see these contacts.
additionally, do all your contacts cleanup in your pc browser on your Gmail account

I have a client that has a Droid Turbo and is syncing his contacts with an Exchange Server. He has about 500 contacts in Outlook on his computer but when it syncs with the Droid he has about 4000.
I can not figure out where they are coming from. I did notice the extra contacts are coming from contact groups but I searched everywhere in Outlook and can not find them. I also synced by Note 4 to his account and only had 500 contacts. My phone did not bring in any groups.
Any ideas?

Check out my thread about a similar issue. Maybe this answers it... A solution would be great though haha
I am pretty sure you have an option to sync contacts when setting up the account. Is the device rooted? If so:
flash an image that has xposed installed and get that set up.
Download greenify
click the top right corner and go to experimental features
scroll down and enable reveal hidden sync
go to settings app
go to account section and then e-mail account
click the first button that tells you when the last sync was performed (not account settings)
The first option should be " * Contacts" which could be disabled
Its a long workaround but if you already have xposed and greenify like I did then it just a couple of clicks. You could also first try to remove the account and then set it up again, but I forget if that was really an option during setup or not
