well at the absolute worst you will just have to re-root again.. time consuming but its not gonna kill your phone.
one more thing i just thought about if SPL dont fix it.. the other thing i did was reinstall the cyanogen recovery... one of the 2 will work hopefully.. i am leaning more toward the SPL tho good luck and let me know what happens..

try unrooting your G1 by flashing the Dream.nbh, im sure you can find it in the forums. then root your G1 again. oh and also try out AMON_RA's recovery images, you can easily repartition your sdcard with it.
Good luck man, hope this works
*EDIT: actually i think i didnt mention everything you needed to do to unroot.
this website has links to the files you need and great instructions on how to unroot.

maybe its something wrong with his install script. anyways, flashing your system image from your safe nandroid restore from fastboot just before flashing the blur image should work
how about ..
you unzip your update.zip
hop in the meta-inf folder open up google then anroid
then update-script
open that with textpad
scroll down to the part where it says
CHOWN 1,0,1,0,5,*some other numbers* System:xbin
delete it
save
rezip and then resign and flash
theres even a resigning.exe floating around somewhere all you gotta do is put "update.zip" in the same folder as the exe and it signs for you
wow 2 great Ideas!! will try and return thannks!
ok guys I finally got it!!! created my moto account and signing in!!
ok so I flashed danger spl and it worked!! thank guys for your support on this issue i really appreciiate it
LATEST UPDATE: I will start working on this again soon. I didn't realize so many people had downloaded it until today when I went to add this thread to the Hero wiki. I will not be replacing the initial "Hero" splash screen, as that requires the installation of an unlocked HardSPL, and I don't have a reason to unlock my own SPL.
Hey all.
So, remember way way back in Android's pre-release days when the boot screen was an oscillating red dot, similar to the eye of a Cylon? Well, it was always my favourite boot animation, so I decided to bring it back. I found an animated gif on the net, removed the word "ANDROID" from it, made it fit our resolution, and voila. Here it is.
I've updated this considerably. I did some smoothing on the red animation so it won't look so pixel-y, I've scaled down the animated gif so that it doesn't get nearly as choppy as it did before, and removed that pesky red dot on the left side. It looks much, much nicer now.
Planned updates:
- Sound. I'm thinking either the low "whirring" noise the cylons make as they scan, or the brief piano music that plays during the first intro to the episodes (not the opening credits.) Thoughts? Does anyone even want sound in their bootscreen?
- Add more frames to smooth the animation out (right now it's about 12 FPS)
- Add a more enticing background picture, such as a Cylon head rather than the solid black.
As always, feedback is welcomed.
A picture would be nice.

Getting rid of the first HERO screen is a bit more difficult. It requires you to remove the device's security/cid checks or something. There's a thread about how to do that in the "Hero Android Development" forum. It's stickied. As of now I'm pretty sure you need to make some custom serial/usb cable to do it, and I can't be bothered. If anyone knows a simpler way to change that first splash screen, I'd love to hear it.

You need to have a rooted phone and the patched recovery image installed. Boot into recovery mode by holding the Home button while you power up your phone, and select "upgrade via choose .zip" or whatever the option is. Exactly the same as flashing a new ROM, as Amdathlonuk said.
Thanks dude!

Hi,
Firstly, thanks for this craig0r, I've been looking for this ever since I got my phone, don't understand why they took it out, it's so cool.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can help me get it working.
I've tried to flash both 0.7 and 0.8 but I get the following error each time:
installing update...
copying files...
E: Failure at line 3:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
Installation aborted.
I have root and I'm running BeHero 1.3.2.
I looked at the update and found that in:
cylon0.8_signed/system/media/bootscreen/boot_animation.xml
There's this line:
audio="/system/media/bootscreen/boot.mp3"
It's referring to an mp3 but the boot sound is wav, could this be the problem?
Cheers guys
Working flawlessly!
Running Android 1.5 - SenseHero1.6 ROM
Sounds will be awesome, no need for an ugly cylon tho!
EDIT: @Sparmian I believe its because Android 2.1 storage bootscreen in another directory. Correct me if I'm mistaken

That certainly could be a problem. Also, I've only tested this in Modaco roms, although I should think it would work on any cupcake system. I won't be porting it to eclair until we have an official Hero release from HTC. Not that it would be particularly difficult with our current "faked" eclair roms, but they aren't functional enough for me, so I can't be bothered.
As far as sounds go, at this point I will probably wait for the eclair release as well.
Aaaaahhh!
Thanks for the help guys. I didn't realize this was a cupcake only release - I'm running eclair. Doh!.
Anyone have any idea how I can get this to work on eclair?
Cheers.
Hey Guys,
I hope this is in the right section. I'm having some issues with my rooted G1.
I couldn't get it to update to DRC92 (http://db.androidspin.com/android_developer_display.asp?developerid=21) so i tried following these instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553416) in the hope starting from scratch would solve the issues. I couldn't even get passed the step 7 in the guide as telnet gave a connection refused error.
I'm now stuck on RC7 and every time i try to add a rom i get
Code:
E:No singnature (454 files)
E:Verification failed
I also tried to change the recovery image to cm-recovery-1.4.img to try and install Cyanogen and i got the error "flash_image: not found".
I would prefer to have the official DRC92 rom installed though.
Does anyone have and ideas as to what the problem is and how i can get around it?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Best Regards, George
Im confused wether you have root...If you are on XDA your arse better have that HTC device or your looking around the wrong ******* forum.Im guessing your phone is fully stock fresh from th bakery i presume? If you have 1.5 now you better get to finding the one click root or find your way over to cyan wiki for the root guide.I be your arse to clicks and dog that you would be better off having root than stock.Oh yeah i forgot but welcome to xda and you better be gettin that root instead of reading this. Are yo usure you have root? WHat recovery are you changing from? You said you wanted to change it to cyan 1.4 when there are only 2 recovery avail..
Thanks for your reply. Yes i have root, i rooted it using an older guide that i can't find now. The recovery image was recover_testkeys.img.
The recovery image i tried to install is at te bottom of this page http://db.androidspin.com/android_developer_display.asp?developerid=3.

I apologize, stupid SEO plugin was rewriting the url and messing up a seperate plugin. Links are now working if you still need to upgrade.
My tutorial shows you how to root and upgrade everything and install cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 if you want to try the 2.1 version which is in testing, go to the cyanogenmod repository on my site, go into the testing folder for the G1 and download that rom instead. Use that rom instead of 4.2.15.1 as the final step.

Follow the directions on the main post.
If you have gtalk pm me your gtalk email and I'll try and step you through it if you absolutely can't figure it out.
Thanks for all the answers! I think I have a good understanding of what I need to do now, so here goes...
*crosses fingers*
I'm following the instructions on myhangoutonline.com.
Well, so far so good, with some minor hiccups:
During the downgrade your phone step, when the phone says "Press the action key" after step 6, it's talking about the trackball button. Took me a little while to figure that out.
However, after I pressed it, it just went back to the initial multicolor gradient screen, with the addition of a line in the middle that said "Serial0". (maybe it was there before, but I missed it?) I ended up having to pull the battery because I could figure out how to make it reboot.
After reboot I had to go through the Google sign in process. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice to mention that this is necessary.
Upgrading recovery seemed to go pretty much as described. On to the apparent dangerous step of upgrading the radio & spl!
Uh oh! It looks like something didn't work. I started up in recovery mode, but there's no option in the menu for "Mount SD card".
I tried going to console, then "ls /sdcard", but no files show up, and /sdcard doesn't show up as a mounted filesystem when I run "mount".
I couldn't figure out how to get out of the console ("exit" just took me back to a "press enter" prompt, and then back into the console), so I ended up pulling the battery again.
Now what? Should I try upgrading recovery again?
Hey all, Team Black Hat have released a series of update.zip’s that will allow you to easily flash the newest kernel, radio, system, and bootloader. Thought some might wanna download ASAP in case they get pulled.
Article About it here:

Direct link To Team Black Hat Thread and Downloads:

Sorry.. just trying to understand...
I have downloaded these 4 files. Now I go to Bootstrap/Recovery and use the Update.zip option for these files one at a time? (in a particular order?) OR do I re-name them update.zip one at a time?
Secondly, I have ApeX 1.2.1 installed... it's working with .320 and I wonder if it will work with the new files?
Any advice on these 2 things. (please)
Thanks.

To answer your first question, we don't need to rename them. We can got o bootstrap and update them one by one. I don't think there's a particular order, however, I do think that we can only do one at a time (install one and then reboot)
I'm not sure about coming from Apex, i'm personally coming from Fission 2.3.1, and I am a little scared to do these....

Yeah no renaming is needed.
I am on fission 2.3.1 as well, flashed the Kernel, Bootloader, and Radio Image all one after another while in clockworkmod recovery, and had 0 issues.
U will have to *228 again after radio, but other than that u its fine.
So I just got a question..is this the file that is downloaded ota or put together by these guys? I only ask cause trying to understand why we can't just throw in our own stuff in this update.zip and resign it..but I am sure there is some kind of keys we will be missing
Did the 2.3.340 SBF also update the radio or should I use the .zip to update that?

Lol, if only it were that simple, unfortunately we can't because of the bootloader being locked, it wont pass security, so we can only modify or use their kernels.

If u did the .340 sbf u should be all up to date, this is more for .320 users and such. U can double check ur kernel, radio version in about phone though as well.

edit: i am searching while im waiting for an answer, my bootloader says 30.04 but i dont understand the whole sbf stuff and i can get into clockworkmod recovery im not completely helpless just a little lost after playing with my eris so much.
Confused
I downloaded each file then rebooted into recovery. I installed each file one by one. I reboot system out of recovery and I get a black screen that says:

30.04
Err: A5, 70, 39, 00, 27

If u did the .340 sbf u should be all up to date, this is more for .320 users and such. U can double check ur kernel, radio version in about phone though as well.

The .340 sbf is system only so no he wouldn't be up to date. His system would but not anything else. Still have to apply the patches if you want to be 100% up to date with everything.
