My phone turns on, but it does not pass the HTC words screen....
Help please...
This is what happened.... I guess the new KERNEL is having issues with WIFI... so GBHIL suggested I try this....
gbhil said:
It looks like there is a bug with the new kernel package and users of 1.5 ROMS. If you're comfortable with this, here's what i would try:
Nandroid back up
Verify that you have a backup
Copy that backup to your computer.
Go back to the kernel thread and download the AOSP version of the kernel.
Flash it
See if your phone boots, runs as expected, and wifi works.
If the answer to any of those is no, restore your nandroid backup.

Now my phone turns on but does not pass the HTC letter screen... I did battery pulls and waited for 10 min for it to show something else... Nothing...
Please help...
After you pull the battery again, hold down Home and Power, go into Recovery, and restore your last nandroid. Everything should be fine after that. Thats why you always make a backup before tryin anything.
What were you doing when this happened were you flashing a rom or mck?
Edit: Ok I seen. Sounds wierd. Glad its working for ya.

Holding home (Dont let go) and tap power doesn't get you to the recovery screen (black with green lettering)?
I'm glad you got it running, but the above is worrying.
Sounds like you did a hard rest instead.

I tried to root my G1 from this link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Made it through the first few steps well, until i finally began to upgrade the image dreaimg or w,e.. It failed on me & now i cannot leave the screen. I remove the battery & turn it on. but when i do it stays in the same spot.. I tried everything & need some help.. ]:
Here is a pic of the screen.. : http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/4355/picture001bk.jpg
Did it start updating, then stop in the middle of it? Did the phone turn off due to running out of battery during the flash? Did you format your card to FAT32, download the proper RC for the original sale location of your phone?
Try pulling the battery at, then removing your SD card, do a long format to FAT32 (whether it is or not) copy the dreamimg.nbh onto the SD card, put the SD card back in the phone, put the battery back in, put it on a charger not turned on for 30 minutes, then take it off the charger...
Now that you have done all that, try booting into boot loader again by holding down the camera and power button until it goes into that screen again and does it's thing.
If this doesn't work, well, good luck since I have no idea from there.
Yes i've tried all of that.. Once i remove my battery it turns on, but as soon as i put it on again it turns on & the same screen appears.. There nothing i can do to go back to the Home screen.. D':
I most likely made a mistake but now i cannot fix this! ]:

That screen is the only thing that ever appears on my phone.. ]:I cant take that screen away like i want too.. So it appears instead of the G1 screen..
If that is the only screen that ever shows up, you very well may be bricked, I hate to say it.
It really sounds like during your flashing of the .nbh file it was disrupted for one reason or another, either the battery died or it was a corrupted file, so the only file left on the phone is the boot loader. Thus, it is the only thing that will show...
Of course, I am not 100% positive without knowing exactly what you did, not being able to mess with the phone myself, and so forth.
Some people have been able to bring phones back from the dead by getting lucky and being able to get ADB to work... try plugging the phone into your computer using a data cable and see if you can get any sort of ADB to work, perhaps seeing if you can get the stock HTC update program to recognize the phone and hopefully flash it into working.

Agreed.
You should read up tutorials on ADB and see if you can use ADB to access your phone. If you can, your phone can still be recovered.
If not - then yeah, brick.

Restore from the nandroid I'm SURE you made before you started messing with things.
If you for some reason didn't do a nandroid backup then wipe data/factory, dalvik cache, and SD:Ext if you have apps2sd installed.
my dumbass didnt do the nandroid :/
i did this already i restarted phone and that gay ass Nexus X with the colors still comes on and stays like that sometimes the colors would freeze but it would fix itself and keep moving
im totally F'd..
Easy fix - you will start from scratch (like a brand new phone)
- Go to http://www.geekfor.me
- Download the 1.56.xxxx RUU onto your PC (not Mac)
- Double click RUU file and let it extract 9you may have to click 'OK' or 'Extract All' - It will create a folder of stuff - dont click anything yet...
- Power off your phone (remove battery and put back in if needed) and hold volume-up while it boots. You should see a white screen with text on it.
- Plug it in to your PC now via USB
- Back in that folder you just extracted double click the HTC logo icon (i forget the name) to start the process. It'll flash your phone to stock.

BEFORE you try that...because it has problems for some people:
Did you:
A. Wipe data/factory reset
AND
B. Wipe Dalvik-Cache?
Alright cool thanks ill try this..
if you guys dont know what the hell im talking about i can probably hook up this webcam i have and make a video lol
Yes i did.
Well lame..it says my battery is not charged up past 30 percent..ima have it charge for a little bit and see what will happen
wish me luck!
Good luck. I've RUU'd 3 times without issue and it was dead simple.
some people have problems with ruu and some don't. I would get back to recovery, enable sd card (forgot which option it is), and put a downloaded ROM onto the sdcard. wipe everything and then flash the ROM. sounds like you might have tried flashing something for 2.1 if you have 1.5 or the otherway around. Flashing the ROM should work.

Very first thing you should do is.. Turn off phone.
Hold down home + power button.. Scroll down to backup/restore.

I hope you learned your lesson and will do backups.
Another lesson you do not want to learn the hard way is what ROMs you can put on your phone. In case you didn't I read what I wrote in your other thread I will restate... BE CAREFUL WHAT ROMS YOU PUT ON YOUR PHONE!!! There are GSM ROMs which will completely fry your phone and you will not be able to recover. Also, if you put any other phone model ROM on your phone it will be toast.

I didn't even realize that other thread was from him too. I also told him to nandroid and not to download anything for gsm.
Don't start a thread and not read everything posted in it, especially when you are asking for help.
I did my Rooting the long way through adb, so I don't know how Fresh Kitchen works on that end, but maybe he should say right after rooting to do a nandroid. I have my first nandroid on one of my backup sd cards, my computer, and on my current sd card. I'll be damned if I delete all 3.
Is there a file in the android system that, sort of like an autoexec.bat, lists what to do on startup? For example forcing the system into recovery or download on power on?
I flashed the latest Vibrant firmware and did so with the option to repartition, which Im now finding out was not the right way to flash this one.
Long story short, it didnt contain the dbdata directory information and now, I am unable to boot and unable to get to download. I still have ADB access, it just isnt responding to ADB reboot download, it just comes right back up booting into recovery to flash the last stage of odin before it starts up.
Is there a way to force the phone back into download mode or force it to stop rebooting into recovery?
Pull battery out and USB to use the hardware buttons to manually get into download mode?
P.S. wrong forum
Aren't there some apps that can do that? I do it manually but like you said its not working for you, p.s im downloading that firmware

Manual buttons arent seemingly working, so far ive tried every conceivable combination of vol up down and power, even if all I do is plug the phone in Im back in recovery before the battery turns green.
(ps. I know, but I had a billion percent better chance not getting a mouthbreather response, despite the definite chance of flame posts lol)

Have you successfully gotten into Download mode with hardware buttons before? Or are you one of those vibrants with "locked download?"
I have a feeling mines locked, Ive never used the buttons to successfully get into download mode, just adb reboot download
EDIT: Tried the posts suggestions, problem is second I plug in the USB and the battery pops up it goes right to recovery. Even if im holding the buttons before hand.

x_x don't know what to tell you then. With locked hardware, you have to be really careful because if something goes wrong you cant manually get back in there. Do you have Clockwork Recovery? try restoring to a previous nandroid backup.

I was working with that a bit, but it just kept getting to datadata and being unable to wipe or flash to it due to the odin botch. I tried wiping it clean and it just wouldnt let me do that to reflash.
So now im stuck at the samsung recovery screen without the ability to get into clockwork or flash lol
This smells like 130 bucks for a new phone I think... brick number two >.>

I didnt! But when I was formatting and it failed to reapply the nandroid completely cause of the section it couldnt mount, now when I hit reinstall packages it just reboots. Same with shell, it just yells at me and tells me to die in a fire.
if you didnt figure this out, the way to fix it is to first flash WITH ODIN the original JVD firmware and check repartition, then flash the new one IN ODIN without the repartition box checked.
first update includes the dbdata that the phone is looking for.
Yeah, I figured it out now, but Odin is seriously the devil if your phone doesnt have the hardware buttons enabled.
Now heres a question, if I can still get into stock recovery... is there a way to like, you know, recover using the stock system? lol
BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS that Tmo is letting me warranty out my phone for free, shipping me a new one, and gave me a loner while I wait.
TMo for the win.

lol looks like you and I are in the same boat man. Hardware lock FTMFL. I have never been able to get into download mode, or recovery mode with the hardware keys, only with adb reboot recovery/download and terminal emulator app with SU privs. I wish there was a jumper we could reset to unlock it haha that'd be the s*# son. Good old pentium 133 in the palm of the hands, but no . Atleast they are taking care of the people who don't do things properly.
I did the same thing and ended up with the same problem, but i was able to get in into download mode. When i would plug it in it would try to boot into recovery after the battery screen i would use the keys to make it boot to download mode instead of recovery, it was a *****, but i got it, though idk if there is another way for people with locked down phones.
I have rooted my Htc hero a few months ago and had no problem until recently when my battery died and my phone brings up this white screen when ever I turn it on.
I have tried reinstalling my RUU updated and it works, but only if i keep the phone on without restarting it or letting it die will the phone work properly again.
If its turned off it will go back to the white screen ( with the 3 little androids on the bottom).
The options it gives me do nothing by the way.
Does anyone know whats going on with it?

Bump. Anyone have any clue on whats going on with it?
Can u go to recovery? From off... hold down home button while holding down power button.
Or hboot mode... from power off...
Hold down lower volume button while pressing power button. From hboot u can choose "recovery"
U want recovery to get to a "advanced" then to "backup and restore"
If ur still rooted then restore one of ur backups.
And if u wanna start over... unroot it and reroot it so u can flash any ROM u want.

Try to Install ROM Manager and Flash the Recovery over Again! Next at the Bottom of the ROM Manager app there's something called Fix Permissions, Run that until Asked to Reboot! Then Select Reboot and see if that Fixes it? Pretty sure it might Work...
It wont let me even recover anything, it just shows a picture of a red phone with a "!" net to it and it stays that way until I take the battery off.
PMGRANDS I have tried it and there is no option. ( I have updated it ) not installed. Maybe that's the problem? I've been updating it and it works until I turn it off.
That's why it's faster to start over...
Use the ruu zip and start over. I know it sucks but ur backups are still on ur SD card so once u unroot, then reroot in about 15 min, ur back to just rentering ur gmail account, then download rom manager and do a good working backup or just reflash the rom u just had that didn't work.
It beats playing the "try this or this" game.
Well I wish u luck in whichever option u choose
Take care

im used to working with samsung phones not htc and im stuck in quicksand with this one.
Did you make a backup in recovery? I tried to flash a ROM once and it got stuck on the HTC screen but I somehow managed to hold the power button for a while and reboot back into recovery to restore to my previous ROM.
Question about situation
Normally in this situation you could hold Vol Down+Power until the unit shuts off then let go of Power and continue holding volume down. This should drop you back off in HBoot/Fastboot from here you could get back to the recovery screen and most recoveries now allow for ADB access to repush or flash another install.
If you are able to get into Recovery what are you currently running?

Have you tried pressing power while holding the vol up button then when the screen goes black pressing and holding the volume down button to get into the bootloader? If you can get into the bootload (and I suspect you probably can if the phone still gets to the white HTC screen) you can flash a recovery and then flash a rom.
