Flashing ROM through memory card?

is it possible to flash my rom through the memory card?reason being my girlfriends mini usb port on her qtek broke.i tried to resolder but to no avail.lucky for her i have an 8125 to charge her battery on and switch with.is this possible?thanx
Nope, I don't think so. The ROM Update Utility is only setup to work via USB connection. I doubt the device knows about the miniSD card during the flashing process (RUU is pretty low level since its just reprogramming the chip).

Simple Rom Question

I don't have a usb cable to connect my phone to my pc, can i download and install a ROM, thru my cell phone phones internet connection since most of the ROMS are .cab files ?
Thanks Chris
Id suggest a little more research before trying to flash your phone. You can use the .nbh file on a non HC memory card, or through usb using the RUU (update program).
i used to have a xv6800 that i updated the rom before, so i know how to do it, just didn't know if i could do it with out a usb cable

See link below.
i just read your link, about newbie flashing
I just want to make sure i read it 100% correctly.....the only way to to do it is via usb cable connected to my computer, i cant not due it thru my phone via internet connection on my phone
Thanks Chris
Hi chris347101,
Flashing a ROM over wireless (cell or other) is extremely risky and prone to failure, let alone the time it would take to download it to your device SD card over wireless - the typical ROM size is well over 128MB in size.
Best practice would suggest that flashing be performed over USB cable via a PC or using an SD card. I could be mistaken, but I believe the SD Card flashing process requires that your device has been HardSPL'ed - i.e. not the stock SPL.
HTH,
thank you for your answer, that's what i thought but i just wanted to make sure......know i just need to find a usb cable for my htc touch pro alltel

no usb connection AS but hardspl installed

question;
i've got a mda vario III aka htc tytn II (Kaiser) which cannot make an usb Active sync connection. the usb connector seems not really fine, it charges over usb
BUT in bootloader menu i get an usb connected message even if i do not have an usb cable connected. so my usb connector will be shot i think
what do i want to accomplish:
i need to change the language from german (german htc rom installed) to the either the WWE or NLD htc rom.
i downloaded both original htc roms, but i need to flash it via micro sd since i do not have a working AS connection. i have hardspl installed, and i think the previous owner sim and cid unlocked it. but i do not know for sure and cannot test it because i cannot run the unlocker program again! (it had hardspl on it, and it is sim unlocked. so i believe it is cidunlocked too?)
but if i extract the image i get amongst others 'RUU_signed.nbh'. i can rename that to KAISER.NBH (or something like that) and if i put that on my microsd card it 'might' just install the original htc rom back. but, will the hardspl that i have flashed be gone also! i only want it to update the radio rom and os, not off course overwrit my hardspl. since that is the only way to flash the device, i cannot risk loosing the hardspl.

[Q] installing Hard SPL without A USB cable

hey guys, I'm a newbie and I have a problem that really irritates me, I have bought an old X1 running windows mobile 6.1 German, I wish to install an English or a French OS, the problem is that my USB cable just don't work, I've tried several others on many pcs, still having the same problem, isn't there a way to install HardSPL without using the USB cable? another question; is it really necessary to install HardSPL if I want to install an original SonyEricsson's ROM, please answer me, I just don't understand a word of german language, thank you, please.
u dont have to hardspl if using original rom. but u still need a working usb cable. how can u install without a cable? OTA?
i was thinking of the memory card method.
Why not using USB Cable, though the fake one is not expensive.
You can also salvage from your other gadget, mine Ext. HDD
Do u insist using Storage Card?
Okay, I'm not sure if it will work or might destroy your X1.
When you doubled click (Execute) the HardSPL you'll found "RUU_Signed.nbh" extracted. Maybe you can place that "RUU_Signed.nbh" to Storage card. And then execute bootloader, like flashing ROM.
*Notice* It's only my idea. I have no guarantee about this because I've never done this.
Maybe you can PM the expert (the creator of that HardSPL) first.
U just get an error when installing hardSPL?? I think your computer USB got a missunderstanding or uncompitibility with another USB driver, maybe u should to install a new fresh computer with USB 2 installed, then try this to hardSPL your X1, worked on me, hehehe
DO NOT try and install hard=spl via sd card
it WILL fail and you could breaak your phone blah blah!
just buy a cheapo usb cable
have you installed activesync or WMDC first??
well, i've solved my problem guys, thanks. I've just bought a fake usb cable.

Problems with Goldcard

Hey there,
I wan't to update my HTC HD7 with the leaked NoDo ROM.
I have a German O2 HD7, so I have to use a Goldcard.
Well the problem after building the cable and patching the microSD card is, that i allways get "not Allowed" after "Entering USB Host..." on the HD7 after a while connected to the cardreader (I use a Toshiba TG01 in massstorage mode as cardreader).
So the question is now, what is the reason for this problem? Bad soldered cables, microSD troubles or ROM problems? Can anyone help me?
Best regards from Austria & Thank you in advance!

Hi,
1. Check if you correct prepared a goldcard,
2. Cable you can check by your computer. If everything is OK your goldcard should be "seen" by PC/laptop,
3. I personally before install a new software/ROM - press vol down and camera button and connect micro usb cable, the process starts automaticaly. You do not need press power button.
regards
I've solved the problem: it was the goldcard, the CID I read out was not correctly, so my goldcard was not too...
Now i have NoDo on my HD7 - wonderfull!
regards & thx
