is it possible to flash my rom through the memory card?reason being my girlfriends mini usb port on her qtek broke.i tried to resolder but to no avail.lucky for her i have an 8125 to charge her battery on and switch with.is this possible?thanx
Nope, I don't think so. The ROM Update Utility is only setup to work via USB connection. I doubt the device knows about the miniSD card during the flashing process (RUU is pretty low level since its just reprogramming the chip).

Please anyone help asap, thanks so much and much blessing
Here's an answer to part of your problem:
As long as you have a USB connection, you can re-flash your phone (provided it's in either the bootloader or connected to your system via active sync 4.1 (I don't know about the beta 4.5 of active sync - which changed the way your PC connects to your phone as I understand it)). You may have to try several different ROMs to re-flash, but generally, I have found that doing the following almost always guarantee's a re-flash:
1) remove the SIM card
2) after every attempt, disconnect the phone from your USB port and then reconnect it
3) between attempts, remove the battery while you are setting up your system (you can't flash a phone w/ a dead battery, so unless you have a way to charge the battery other than the phone, you need to protect the amount of charge you have like it's your lifeline!)
4) I have had more success re-flashing a phone that is in bootloader mode by using the original ROM .exe file instead of trying to extract the files from it and THEN run the update utility.
5) If your phone came w/ a 2.x ROM, I wouldn't try to downgrade it to a 1.x ROM as this has never worked for me. Try flashing it w/ a 2.x or higher ROM only.
Hope this helps (oh, and rumor has it you should use the USB ports on the back of your PC, not the ones on the side or front!)

I don't have a usb cable to connect my phone to my pc, can i download and install a ROM, thru my cell phone phones internet connection since most of the ROMS are .cab files ?
Thanks Chris
Id suggest a little more research before trying to flash your phone. You can use the .nbh file on a non HC memory card, or through usb using the RUU (update program).
i used to have a xv6800 that i updated the rom before, so i know how to do it, just didn't know if i could do it with out a usb cable

See link below.
i just read your link, about newbie flashing
I just want to make sure i read it 100% correctly.....the only way to to do it is via usb cable connected to my computer, i cant not due it thru my phone via internet connection on my phone
Thanks Chris
Hi chris347101,
Flashing a ROM over wireless (cell or other) is extremely risky and prone to failure, let alone the time it would take to download it to your device SD card over wireless - the typical ROM size is well over 128MB in size.
Best practice would suggest that flashing be performed over USB cable via a PC or using an SD card. I could be mistaken, but I believe the SD Card flashing process requires that your device has been HardSPL'ed - i.e. not the stock SPL.
HTH,
thank you for your answer, that's what i thought but i just wanted to make sure......know i just need to find a usb cable for my htc touch pro alltel
I was flashing my Blackstone before few minutes with stock 1.57 wwe ROM.
I normally have the habbit of removing the sim and memory card while flashing. so, i'll keep the back cover off while flashing.
When the progress was around 40%, i got a call in my another standby mobile and in hurry i pulled the usb cable .My blackstone got pulled down together with the usb cable and battery came out(As there is no back cover).
I got shocked and looked at the screen as the usb cable was not removed from my device.
To my surprise, the progress bar didn't stop and ROM update was continuing without the battery.
I came to full conciousness after some more 105 progress and inserted the battery while it was updating.
When the flash was complete, the device started as usual without any problem
So, it seems that the device is powered from usb during flashing
I think this happens if you flash from the SD card too.

With SD card?
no. I think you mis understood.
When flashing with SD card, you won't be connected with PC.
In my case, the battery came out of the device while flashing.
lucky you're
This is called Holy of HD Users...
Just to be sure that is not a lucky, could You repeat the step again twice?

Yes becouse when i flashed trough SD card and my HD was in usb becouse before flash i always use USPL. When i wanted to turn off the phone after flashing i took out the battery but i had to take out the cable too to turn off
I think you're ok while you still got a working bootloader. I once flashed a rom that was incomplete...the dowload got canceled for some reason which I hadnt noticed. However winrar extracted without reporting any errors and it also flashed without problems. When my phone wouldnt boot beyond the HTC screen I started checking things. The .nbh file was way too small
Anyway I flashed it again and it was working again...
should be alright since you have hspl 1.56 on your phone
would be screwed if it was normal spl/uspl and it was in middle of flashing the spl part of the rom upgrade when power was lost!
Anytime your phone is connected to an external power source it does not require the battery to power it... this is quite normal You can take the battery out anytime it is plugged in.
Hello all,
I'm having big problems syncing my phone to pc...is the above possible via MicroSD card...I know flashing a rom is but can I hard SPL it in the same way
Thanks in advance
I don't believe it is possible unfortunately.
What issues are you having? Have you tried updating (or even downgrading them depending on what you currently have) the usb drivers?
The probleme that most of us flashing new cooked ROMs & my device get stucked several times. Likely it is connected via USB, Otherwise I can not do any thing.
Also due to several ROM flash times the USB connection in HD (or other devices) might broken.
This why we need a way to install USPL or HSPL via SD card.
Can some one help?
Regards
What I don't understand is how can a usb port become 'broken' due to flashing several custom build roms?
I too having a problem with the usb port on my blackstone. It can only be charged but not synchronized with pc anymore. I had HTC pick up my phone to have the mainboard replaced. Luckily the phone was still under warranty, so it won't cost me much.
Can someone explain?
i had similar probs ...
went to regedit , local maschine, software, microsoft,
windows ce services and changed to (1) the key : hasusbdevice
after this no problems anymore
it seems that a program installation changes this number from 1 to 0.
i have win 7 32

This is not possible infortunately. However you do not need your device sync'ed with your pc to run HSPL. You only need to put device into bootloader and then connect it to pc. Bottom of bootloader should change from 'serial' to 'usb'. If not, you will need to update usb drivers. All this info can be found on this thread, no need for another

I've always experienced trouble (mainly Windows or connection trouble) flashing over USB cable, so I used to prefer flashing directly from SD Card. Did this on my old Hermes and Kaiser and never once experienced problems with it.
Recently got myself a Rhodium, and installed OliNex HardSPL on it.
Downloaded few roms, formatted SD card to FAT32, and put one in the root named "RHODIMG.nbh" as supposed to.
Went into bootloader, it started flashing, but at a certain point the progress meter just stopped moving. I left it for like an hour, but nothing had happened anymore.
Pulled the battery and fixed the phone by flashing a shipped ROM over USB cable successfully, and tried flashing from SD card again with a different ROM. Resulted in the same issue.
Anyone know what could be causing trouble here?
Are you maybe flashing A GSM device with a CDMA ROM, or the other way around?
Very sorry for not updating sooner, unexpectedly been away for a while.
I did make sure both the ROMs and the unit are GSM, not CDMA. Had the same problem in an attempt to flash the factory ROM from SD card.
