I have tried using smartphonetracker, and some other gps tracking phone programs. They work great, but heres the PROBLEM:
Useless if device is in sleep mode, or if press the power OFF button.
So if it runs out of battery, or if its turned off, how can I find it by GPS?
Any solution?
sorry, if the phone is off / battery empty - no chance...
i mean, how should it work anyway?! sending a "dead" device the command to boot up and do something?
standby shouldn't be a problem for these programs or they aren't worth the money. i know that kaspersky's mobile security offers this feature. but so far i didn't buy it... (pretty certain it would mess with the system in some ways, make it laggy etc) phonecreeper here @xda should work as well.
oh, one more thing:
all these apps won't prevent a hard-reset or a reflash. in this case you could only disable the IMEI via your provider (sim-card is mandatory anyway) to make it really useless for the thief. (imei-changing is possible and apparently pretty easy, but instructions are pretty hard to find on the web... ^^)
I mean, when it is in standby mode, when u tap power off, then screen goes black.. it doesnt seem to work when its in this mode..
well, from what i've read about smartphonetracker, it SHOULD work in standby-mode. (if the phone is connected to a network to receive the sms)
if it doesn't you should ask the guy who wrote it? also you can find some support here.

By connected to network, u mean internet connection? I want to track my gfs whereabouts, but she doesnt have internet connection on her phone..
Errr, you want to do what?! Oo
Well, I guess that's fine because she knows about it and does the same with your phone, right?
Since when do SMS need an internet connection?

Guys,
I don't know if this is actually a cure yet, but it seems to have worked on my first attempt.
First the background...
When I first got my Kaiser (UK Orange Tytn II) I was at work, I quickly enabled the wifi and all was well. When I got back home later that day I really struggled to get a connection to my access point at home. I connect to a Cisco aironet in both locations (I know there is a post about cisco extensions but I know that is not my problem as I can and have connected to both APs on at least one occasion with no problem).
After deleting wireless settings and a few soft resets I was able to connect at home. I managed to use that wifi connection all night without a problem. Getting back into the office the next day resulted in the same problems connecting to the office access point.
The AP is visible and is 'Available' but doesn't connect automatically. I tried to establish the connection manually, the phone shows the AP as 'Connecting' but shortly after goes back to 'Available'.
I've tried flashing different roms and radios but to no avail.
Last night I got to thinking that I generally connect to my AP, browse the web, sync mail etc, but I don't switch off the wifi when I am finished. I just let the phone go into standby as that shuts the wifi off anyway. So to try something different last night, I disabled wifi once I had finished.
This morning, when I got into the office, I enabled wifi and for the first time it connected immediately and I'm browsing on it just fine. This leads me to believe that there is a problem when the wifi is enabled and the phone is is standby mode for a considerable length of time and then is woken up in a totally different location.
I'll test again tonight by disabling the wifi before I leave the office and hopefully I'll get an instant connection when I get home.
Any thoughts?
I get the same thing for work and cannt connect even though it says available, and then connected.
Tried your approach but didnt work for me.

Of course that might be due to any number of factors. Have you ever been able to connect at your office?
i've had issues with my orange (uk) tytnII actually wanting to make a GPRS connection whilst connected to WiFi when i try and go online.
I connect at work using a program called Odyssey and eventually got that working yesterday, but had to turn off most other connectivity before it'd actually use the WiFi.
then I was at a pub later on with a free wifi hot spot, but that wouldn't connect despite it being 'available'
YAY!
Well...
I retested my theory. Disabled the wireless before I left the office. Got home, enabled it and I connected with no issues.
So there is a problem with having the wifi on when the phone goes into standby and it then waking up in a totally different location.
I wonder if WM6.1 addresses this. I hope so because although I have a work around, its still a pain in the a$$
I had similar problems on my Wizard... never had anything like that on my Kaiser.

Thanks, I might give that a go when I get a chance.
My problem is similiar. If I connect to a certain access point, it will stop working after a minute or so and then not be able connect to that access point or any other one, they are just listed as available. Strange...
Firstly set your wifi power to max.
Secondly, my orange Tytn2 (now dutty v3'd) has never had that problem.
I leave navizon on a lot of the time and thus enter and leave wifi zones frequently with wifi on and my device connects fine to the regular ones I use.
Wi-fi connection
Hi unwired,
I've been surfing this site, but unable to find an answer yet, a newbie that I am. Is there a way to define one network as default? Anytime I want to connect, I have to do it manually, and define settins, rather than just switch it on, connect automatically and fire away. This is how it works on my laptop, or I have to high expectations from the Kaiser?
Thanks in advance.

This is nothing to do with power settings, or at least not for me or several other people I have spoken to. Its generally not a problem when the wifi is on, its after the device has gone into suspend.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that if I set the reg hack so the wifi is always on I wont have this problem but I can't deal with the battery drain.
Just this morning I was connected to my office wifi, went for lunch without switching off the wifi first and when I got back I was longer able to connect to the same access point.
I then deleted the settings for the access point, soft reset and I'm connected again (even if I switch to low power).
To say that this pi$$es me off is an understatement, what kind of wireless device cant handle waking up in a different location to the one it went to sleep in!?

I have had similar problems. I get disco'ed from my AP at home and it won't let me re-connect. Jut keeps asking for the WPA2 key.
I use the same remedy as you. Turn off Wifi Before walking out of range. No amount of Softreset's fix it for me.
Although, some ROM's work better than others. ie Alex's WM6 ROM would not connect at all, the ROM / Radio in my sig are perfect so far.
P.S. This might also be tied to my router, cause a router reset fixes it for me. But i doubt work will let you try that

Yeah I'm really hoping that this is fixed in WM6.1 which, if your experience is anything to go by, might well be the case. I really wanted to wait for the official 6.1, but I feel a flash of Duttys 6.1 coming on real soon.
Anyone having this problem, or know how to enable it? I feel like a dee dee dee!! Other than that, it's all good!
plz explain! i have been using tomtom for sometime and i don't have a clue on what u r talking about!
When I hit say, TomTom Weather, I get "wireless data disabled" and also with any other feature that has to use the data connection. I thought there was a way to enable/disable it in tt6, but im not about to revert back just to check. It's not even that important to me, but its good to get live info when you need it. Get what I'm gettin at?
I think it simply means that u account has no data plan included or has been disabled by service provider. If should be active by default. I has it active when I first got the line, then I had to call them up and tell them to shut it off, since then when I fire up PIE, it says same thing like this.
actualy it says cant connect with the current connection setting, to change connection tap settings... does ur say the same thing?
My regular data works just fine...
make sure you have data connection up and working fine before u try the services.
As I said more than once, the data works fine, good, perfect, 100%, whatever you wanna call it. JUst NOT in tt7. Does ANYONE know what i'm trying to say here? My medianet works. It works with tt6, just not 7. Get it? Maybe my $#!t's just messed up..

I don't think it's you, I'm having the same problem as well. I haven't found a fix yet.
Well I don't feel soo bad now....
TT7 data services are disabled by default. Thats why I'm still using TT6 (I use the traffic feature).
If they are, then how do you enable them? SHOULD be simple.... Is there NOONE who figured a workaround for this yet?
well I guess not!
TT7 data is working here. I've used the weather a few times and have activated by 30 day trial for the traffic.
Tomtom version - 7.450
Rom - RomOS v2
Coastie.
how did you get it to work? or did it work from the start..
Just in case anybody else come across this thread with the same problem as I also did. To fix it for me I had to install TT7 on the device as my original install was on the storage card.

You mean you want to turn off the radio?
Simple method is to go to Settings -> Wireless controls -> Airplane mode. NOTE: This turns off all radios, including WiFi.
If you want a icon to do this, go to the Market and download AnyCut and make a shortcut to Airplane mode.
no not turn off the radio , just close all open connection. cuz i can't see if there's some connection open !!!!!!
A little more description on your dilema would be apreciated.
Who charged you 55 euros?
Are you talking about data transmissions?
If your phone is on and you have service with some provider AND haven't installed any apps that require streaming data, you should not have any "open connections" as you say.

No need for a task manager as the device closes programs on its own.
To disable all data connections use anycut to phone info (like said above) and then menu -> more and you can disable data connection for just that time or disable it on boot to disable forever.
If you were charged 55 euros for using data then you need to get a different phone as this phone is meant for an always on connection so it is connected 24/7
Well I have the same issue. There are no affordable dataplan in the country I live in so letting any application use as much network as it feels like is not an option.
Sadly the phone does not have a way to control who's allowed to use the radio/network or anything for that matter past the installation time. So if pong3d has been installed with full network access you're screwed it can wake up at any time and start streaming whatever it wants from and to your phone. It can even clog your bandwidth and make your browsing suck.
I understand the whole fully connected device thing, but I still think this is a major flaw as users end-up with limited control over what application is doing what. There should be a way to disable data connection, like disabling wifi.
And ultimately there should be a way to manage the permission of the various app. I want to run pong3d but there is no way I'm giving it Contact Access and SMS access and "service that cost you money". Or I want a fair warning "accept/deny" whenever the application tries...
It also happens that people travel (like me) to other countries. And when traveling I use local pre-paid SIM card to avoid roaming fees. I don't need gtalk and MarioSimulator (yeah it does check for update when you launch it) to burn through my credit just because they think they can.
Since we had networking on phone they have been asking you if you wanted to allow the application to connect "Always/Never/Just this time". If Android expect to be used on other devices (so other providers, other countries, other dataplan) that feature will be needed. And the all or nothing attitude towards permissions when installing an app must be changed.
In the mean time, I suggest the original poster do what I do.. Delete all your APN settings and re-add them when needed. In my case just changing one letter in the APN seems to be enough.
my 2p.

I completely understand where you are coming from and I think once the OS comes out of beta it will be a lot better. In the meantime I think it is easier to do the method I did above as it just turns off the data connection and doesn't change any other settings. And you can turn it on or off on the fly.

Don't mean to derail the converstaion but... Google, out of BETA? ROFLOL!!!
That'll be the end of life as we know it!
Anyways... going back to the subject. Your trick is neat and I don't need it (T-mobile customer with unlimited data) but still usefull.
@ mrboyd:
As neoobs stated, you'll have to do that workaround untill Google does add such a feature, but unless you give enough stink (complain) about it, they won't listen.
You could go here to developers and see if anyone is doing something about it and "ask" for such a "feature"
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers
Also, where are you located? Who's your service provider? What data plans do they have there, or don't?
On the same topic... if someone notices they have no data connection and want to enable it follow the same directions. I did this the other night when tmobiles towers were down. It helped me get connected again.
Does this thing works? I have tried playing with it a little bit and it didn't seem to do much. I'll give it another shot.

what 'thing' ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got my TD2 yesterday. Been trying to figure out the settings for the push internet, but i can't seem to find the option to use WiFi connection instead of data connection.
Also i realised that the scheduling doesnt allow to set the minute only the hour.
Does anyone have this problem?
No one has any problem using this feature?
If you have WiFi on it should just use it I guess? Otherwise what you can do is setup your preferred connection not to be the mobile web one so it doesn't try and connect to the net over GPRS/3G.
I tried using Wifi, but it doesnt work. I still need to manually pull the sites.
When your phone goes into standby the WIFI connection turns off to save the battery, so unless you have your phone set to never turn off and keep WIFI active all the time its unlikely that it will use WIFI to push internet pages to you. Very little point doing it that way since you'd never have the phone last long enough to get out of the house in the morning.
Oh I reckon I know what might be wrong. You also need to change the schedules of when the phone polls for sites. You do it by day and stuff and do a start time. Once you visit each site once then that'll start the ticker so to speak. Mine autodownloaded at the set intervals after that.
Thanks Shuflie, u have a good point.. there is no point updating it via wifi. It needs to use a data connection. Thanks
DaBountyHunter: Thanks for the advice.. but i really think the problem is that i dont have a data plan with my telco.. i cant rely on WIFI since it disables whenever the phone goes into standby.
hi,
i'm a little bit confused about this feature!
i addet 4 sites to my list and if i got it right, there is a grey arrow if its updating and a green if its finished! is that correct?
but, when i surf on a site with a green arrow i can only see the main page, because if i tip any link on this it says error!
thats a total mess, the deep of min one link is essential...
do i something wrong or is this feature only a dream!??
I believe it only updates the pages on the main page. It doesnt save the entire site (i wished it did) cos it seems rather redundant when it only saves the main page.
hopefully someone can make a fix that it also loads the linked pages but i think it takes up too much memory/battery life and for example on news sites you only need the headlines, and if you want to read the article you'll have to wait a bit.
(for the Dutch, use tweakers.net/nieuws on your phone, it loads the articles instead of headlines)
well then in my opinion this feature is senseless!
quite true.. senseless.. might as well just use RSS feeds.
I still haven't received my TD2 (seems like it takes time for other languages as I'm looking for a french one which should be shipped on the 8th of May) but I still have a question regarding push internet feature.
What happens when roaming? Is there a way to disable it while on another network? Like a "disable while roaming" feature? Knowing the fees for data roaming, I don't want to spend money every time I'm going in another country...
yes, there is a 'disable when roaming' feature.

i tried that, also tried many other things but i am almost defintely sure the 'add push page' is simply a bookmark button. the main conclusion for this is that i dont get any notification of the 'auto pull' and it still attempts to connect to HSDPA when opening one of these push pages
I stopped using it because it only updates the top page.
Where are the oush internet settings on rom official rom version 2.53?
My phone is pissing me off for some mysterious reason the internet connection keeps turning on . i want to know if there is some setting in the phone where i can make it so that it never dials a internet connection ever ever ever. but i still want wifi to work. help me out if you knw what i am going thru. prbly gonna get a mad bill this month
Did you search for this? IT's like the first app ever made for this phone.
You want to look at Kaiser Tweak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009
Another option could be GB Soft Tweak:
http://gb-soft.cz/xdaii/product_gprs...61_diamond.htm
Never had a problem with Kaiser connecting without me wanting it to !
I use GB Soft Tweak as I like the option of instant time-out disconnect (something those useless Tw*ts at WM HQ should of thought of by now !)
Check your email account settings & any other app that uses connection.
