Hi folks
I'm wondering if my Kaiser is defective somehow. On occasions, during phonecalls, people are complaining about not being able to hear me loud enough, then after a few seconds they can hear me loud and clear again, without me doing anything.
This happens to almost every phonecall I make, which makes my skin crawl each time, as I'm afraid I could be using an expensive, yet defective Kaiser
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so found a solution?
Thanks for your interest!
Possible App conflict
I encounter the same problem and found out that a 3rd party application (resco audio recorder) is the culprit. Aparrently I enabled an option to record all voice calls and in effect, causes the 3rd party not to hear me. maybe you have the same issues
Try uninstalling any applications that might use the built in microphone and try.
Otherwise, you could have a defective Kaiser.
Try a different radio.
i have the same problem too. What is the best radio to use???
Doesn't upgrading the radio require a ROM update?
Upgrading the radio does indeed require a ROM update, but this is not the same part of the ROM as you would flash for example the AT&T or Dutty's latest to. You can change the radio ROM independantly of the 'application' ROM.
For my personally, the .17 radio ROM seems to work best, but others feel .31 feels best for them. You will have to consult the radio ROM thread (Kaiser -> Upgrading) for further information as to how to change them, and which ROM is compatible with your system.
EDIT: Note that this may or may not help with your issue, I simply do not know and you will have to try it yourself. It's just a suggestion that may fix this issue for you.
well why the hell cannot HTC do this at factory??? they really are dumb arses.
i dont expect to have to play with a phone changing files etc just to allow the person i am calling to hear me.
I wish NOKIA OR SAMSUNG had made it
If you've got a stock rom and radio - completely un flashed from new, then the problem is more likely to be hardware related. If you've changed the rom then there is a good chance that the problem is because the radio also needs to change.
Check here for which radios work with which roms.
I can't help with which will work for you but I've tried most radios and I've found 1.27.12.17 and 1.27.12.32 work well with stanfard HTC rom and also all of Dutty's and Schaps roms.
Yah, the same problem and found so far a brick wall as far as resolution. I am unsure if new radio will resolve the problem as one user has returned his "tilt" phone 3 times under warranty just for the speaker problem and each time the speakerphone did not work even when "replaced". Also, other users have tried different radio/rom as well as "replacing" there phone through warranty: each time result the same; speakerphone did not work.
Here are a couple links relating to the problem but each time the problem seemed to remain.
Here is first post under xda (5 pages i think;relates to speaker problem; you will see users tried different radios and such but no resolution to problem ever found):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337931&page=5
here is another link from mobile planet that i started....
http://www.mobileplanet.com/ft.aspx?k=104689
resolution to this problem remains elusive. Some speculate that its due to non duplex design of the hardware while others speculate there might be some type of hack to correct this; but so far no fix has been found. Given the poor state of video drivers for this device; one has to wonder though if this is a software issue; but who knows.
Discussions regarding "callers not been able to hear me" seem to have died off.
I am still having this issue having tried many many different radios and roms. It's got to the point where I don't use the phone for calls anymore.
Today I flashed my phone back to the Taiwanese ROM and restored the OEM bootloader and went into the HTC service center. Of course the first thing they tried to do was test it on the spot by calling me in the shop. True to form it didn't show the issue which led them to believe it was more of a reception/network issue, even though I know it isn't. I have left it with them to send to their "technicians" and will await their outcome.
I asked another friend today if he's had the same issue where callers can't hear him and he does. Does anyone else still get "sorry I can't hear you" on nearly every call? I had always put this issue down to the crappy cellphone network in Taiwan but I had the same issue when I went back home last month where I've never had any phone call quality issues in the past (Vodafone NZ).
I'll post the outcome from HTC on Mon 6th Oct.
I'll probably get shot down in flames here but ...
The company I work for bought 200 Kaisers for our techs .... within a few days we people were complaining that the person on the other end of the phone couldn't hear them. It didn't take a genius to work out that with the STUPID mic location and the way you held your phone, the base of your thumb would completely cover the mic and make you inaudible!!
I do this daily without realising it!!!
Might be something to look at when/if I get my phone back. Out of interest... where is the mic???
The fact that the sound cuts in out out for my callers would suggest that it is a different issue though. It goes very very faint for them and then comes back to normal all without me moving or raising my voice.
Bottom right of the phone.... under the "reset" button.
Wow, I never knew that's where the mic was! Thanks!
That tiny hole next to the mini USB? It's almost on the back of the phone and definitely not close to the mouth when holding with your right hand.
I'll have to keep that in mind and see if it helps...
Yeah that's the one .... hold your phone in your right hand and let your hand relax a little and see where the mic ends up!! Completely covered by your hand!!

You're right!! I got my phone back from HTC and they couldn't fault the mic. When i got home I tested it with my usual hand grip and sure enough it blocks the mic completely and nothing can be heard by the person on the other end.
Fault = I have fat hands
Hopefully this thread will help anyone else with similar issues.
LOL ... I wonder how many they get daily due to this!!
I'm a leftie so my hands aren't blocking the mic. I also had this problem with the Qtek 8310
Hi everybody,
Today I experinced a very strange problem with my Diamond (for the second time):
During a phone call ,suddenly the diamond shuts off and the only possible thing to do was a soft reset.
The on/off hardware button did not work.!!
Did anybody experience such serious problem ?
Thanks in advance
P.S :ROM 1.93 (coocked) and Radio 1.00.25.08
yes me too..
my htc TOUCH diamond is all working ok EXCEPT IT resets itself during making and receiving calls, at least once a day
and then i have to wait for it to boot up again
it is really embarasing for me as the people who i talk to think i purpofefuly hang up on them
i dont know what is the problem, i have good reception, (t-mobile - Macedonia)
everything else with my diamond is working flawlessly
but this auto reset during calls at least once a day, and sometimes the inability to answer incoming calls no response from the touchscreen
can someone advise me if anyone of you run into this problem sometime?
i am afraid if it is hardware because theyt are not good service technicians over here, i am afraid to give it to them, cause they will return it scratched or something worse. no good experience with repair sevices here.
as for the firmware i have the standard updated firmware from the htc site of july 2008
please advise any software solution?
and help will be greatly appreciated
best regards..
Jap, had the same problem (check my problem thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424648 ), amongst others. I had o2 return it to HTC. This was 10 days ago. I'm still waiting for my repaired phone. As soon as I get it back and an error report is submitted to me I will let you know what was wrong. The problem is pretty serious and I doubt that it's just a software problem.
I assume the best thing to do is to return the phone
it will not be a new phone, returned from service
i paid 500 euros brand new for this device 2 weeks ago
and it started resetting itself during calls the second day i bought it..
It now happened for the third time: The phone is up and running but when an incoming call is received it does not ring at all and the microphone + speaker is also not working (muted) - basically there is no audio at all though you can take and end the call.
Once the phone is in this state alarms and sound notifications are no longer working as well, after a soft reset everything was fine again.
I wonder if I'm the only user who has experienced this kind of issue.

well foo, i got it to, but i had the same problem wuth my diamond as well, it went away with tge officual rom update, so ill guess well have to wait foor the rom upgrade this time to.
Ah okay - at least I'm not alone with this issue, good to know.
It seems this problem is not a common problem, as I do not read any other posts regarding this issue in the Xperia section. Though I found a thread in the Diamond section that exactly describes my problem.
As HTC stated the problem is related to a hardware issue, I returned mine now. I'm lucky that Amazon.de just returned me the money (completely) so I can buy another one in the next days.
It seems I am having this problem with my X1i. I am in the US and the Sony Ericsson support centre in the UK is telling me that I would have to pay for shipping to and from the UK Sony Repair centre.
The following web page suggests I am eligible for international support and repairs, but I called the US Sony Ericsson line and they told me that since the X1 was not released here yet, that I would not be able to receive support in the US for the X1 (either for getting it repaired or a replacement unit).
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...endedserviceoffertailoredforx1/x1?cc=gb&lc=en
I would send it back to superetrader.co.uk and get a replacement that way, but they do not have any in stock and given delays in shipments in the UK I am hesitant to send it back and wait for new stock.
I am going to try going into a Sony Style store sometime this week and show them my "Travelers service" card and see if they can get it fixed here. Does anyone have any other suggestions I might try?
bluetooth problem with carkit and audio off
I folks,
i do also have the same problem. I have a SE BT car kit HCB 300 and it is just annoying, that it does not work proper. Sometimes BT works, sometimes not, sometimes i have to restart the phone, sometimes ... just annoying.
A lot of times Xperia recognizes the 300, then i am calling somebody, phone is giving signal to the 300, but after a few seconds, audio is off again.
After that audio is not working anymore.
Could it be, that your problems are also caused by the known BT problem?
Ingo
Exactly same problem
Exactly the same problem as foo.
If you remove and replace battery, sometime problem is solve, sometime no.
Soft reset solve the problem.
I made hardware reset + flash xperia but no solution.
I returned mine and bought a new one that does not have this issue. It really seems to be a hardware issue.

It could be, although I have not paired with a BT headset since buying it, and in addition I have hard reset the phone and put it in airplane mode (no RF at all) and the audio still manages to completely die where only a Soft Reset will restore the sound (as noted by x1inside).
Depending on the amount of time I leave the phone sometimes the phone after playing some music for 5 seconds will stutter and restore sound. This is similar to the description in the Touch Diamond thread that foo linked. Also when this stutter sound restores, as noted in that thread, the reception indicator in the system tray indicates that the signal is temporarily lost and then restored.

Thanks for letting us know, good to have this confirmed so when I visit the store or send it to Sony Ericsson repair centre, I can refer them to this thread.
well i also have the same problem with my x1.
reseting it dosent work, flashing it with new rom dosent work.
But i cant understand how the problem would be in the hardware, when you reset it it starts working! i mean if it was a hardware problem the sound should be of all the time?
Is there ant possibility if this is a software problem, i mean WindowsMobile 6.1, because my dad complaining the same behavior yesterday, and his device is Samsung Omnia.
Do all WM6.1 effected?
I got the X1a in the US. No problem here. When there is an incoming call and I was on the phone then it will beep to let me know if I want to answer or inorge. If I answer then it will put other call on hold till finish talking then connect me back to the first caller.
My x1 is also affected by this audio problem. If I restart my phone sound output works for some minutes and turns automatically off as the other users reported.
Same problem here just got an X1 and the sound works perfect after leaving it a short while the sound completely stops working no music, notifications or anything. By the sounds of it I think I will send mine back to O2 and get a replacement, although it does seem more like some sort of software fault than hardware to me, like the previous post why would it be corrected by a soft reset every time. If anyone has any suggestions before I send this thing back I will be happy to try them.
I returned my x1 and after 5 weeks of "repairing" I got called and they said it cannot be repaired and I got a brand new phone.
I had that exact same problem. I'd leave my phone alone for a while and then when I came back to it a few hours later, it would have no audio at all. I could make a call, the other person could hear me but I couldn't hear them and it wouldn't audibly alert me to anything...
I couldn't pin it down to any particular circumstances but it was always resolvable with a soft-reset. A hard-reset didn't cure the issue either. I just sent it back in the end. My current one is fine although I have now upgraded the ROM to the latest one.
I do have one outstanding issue though and that's that when sending a text, it sends immediately, flashes up the bubble saying msg sent, but the vibrate from sending the message will come about 10 minutes after or it'll do it when I turn the screen back on. It's not a biggie but it's a bit weird.
scarey
I have the same prob, but its strange that when pushing the MS-Voice-Controll button the beep comes and everything works perfekt again.
So I donĀ“t need to soft oder hard reset, but it drives me crazy not knowing whether my alarms or notifications do work or not. BUT: I cant believe its a hardware problem.
same problem...
With 3-4 custom rom...
I'm trying with orginal ROM...
Any news?
Hey guys,
I'm facing a very weird problem. I'm somehow facing a very weird problem with my X1, when I install ROM's (to be precise: itje's and the energy rom).
The problem occurs quiet often. As you all might know, the display turns itself off if you don't use your X1. However, usually it is supposed to come back to life when you press the "Power"-button. However, mine doesn't react, thus meaning, I have to do a soft-reset in order to get it back to life.
Which is pretty annoying, since I'm missing all my phone calls, and neither do I receive SMS. I asked a friend of mine to phone me, and the calls goes through, however the X1 does not react as it is supposed to be.
Would be great if someone could help me out

I posted the same problem yesterday

anyone else getting this- really annoying buzzing noise.
is there a solution?
I have this sudden noise sometimes, too.
Same here... can't figure it out till now, anyone know it?
same here ...some helppp!!!!
same here
it happened to me long time ago on my old K810i when I flashed original firmware instead of branded. Then I was trying to change audio drivers etc, and suddenly the problem just dissapeared after flashed the same firmware as before.
Now, with X1 the same very annoying buzzing sound Of course I was trying to hard reset, but no luck. So I tried to use SEUS, reinstalled phone using SEUS, but without change. I hope it's not HW related, regarding experience with K810i
Any help is warmly welcomed
Hardware related I sent my to Sony UK to repair they replaced a few parts and flashed a newer radio. It arrived back 8 days later fixed no problems. I then sold it due to cracks.
It bugged the hell out of me, it happened on every call in the end and was more noticeable in quiet environments.
