Can you flash a theme if the version stated is different then the one you currently have?
No, not usually.
What happens if you do o_o'
Try it and see for yourself (just be sure to do a nandroid or bart backup first)
you may get stuck on the G1 screen, but yeah itd be smart to do a full back up haha

Never been a fan of theme's but the Enoch 1.3 caught my eye.
I made a Nandroid backup of my perfect current state of my phone with the stock theme, etc. If I ever wanted to go back to my stock theme, etc I'd just run Nandroid restore? Or is there an easier way to switch back and forth?

Either that or you can reflash the rom without wiping.
Ok so I use my phone all the time. At work it tends to get beat up. I was wondering if I buy a second g1, after I root it, can I just flash my nandroid backup from one phone to other? Then I can just transfer sim card and use beat up one at work only.
Now what about a my3g? Can I go back and forth with it and g1?
No, I really wouldnt reccomend something like that, G1 backup isnt compat with a mytouch..If you want a paper weight then fine do it.The choice is yours, all i can offer is advice.
I have nandroid backups of Cyan Build, Mamoth Pule roms, Motoblur, Soulife, and Dwang and I flash and back up to them all the time.
Of course I wipe before restoring but that's learned sense.
I wouldn't know about the MT3G I don't like that phone and I know theres the 32a and b version and that makes a difference somehow, but Idk.
I however have tried to pull files from 1 nandroid to the other [the data file] and flash that, it was working up until it tried to restore the file, but mind you I pulled it from a cyan build and tried to place it in a soul life backup.
I've really ****ed with nandroids hahaha.
Maybe if you're running a cyan build on your g1, back it up, and on the MT3G make a nandroid.
Look at both folders kinda examine em then pull the data file from the g1 folder and place it in the MT3G folder than flash.
Since Cyan roms are universal, I could see that working.
But like the guy above me stated about making paperweights, we all take risks.

You really shouldn't answer people's questions if you don't know.
OP: Yes, you can restore a nandroid backup to a different g1 with no problems. Restoring a g1 backup to an mt3g is a bad idea however, The userdata partition will probably work, but you'll essentially be flashing a g1 rom on an mt3g which will break things like wireless and bt. It will probably boot, but it's not a good plan. You're definitely not going to end up with a paperweight though.

Kind of what I thought but wasn't sure, wondering if other people have done it. Does nandroid reflash radio? I have 26I radio and death spl, only way I could see getting a brick is if I flashed a nandroid off an old radio and nandroid replaced it. (Which I don't think it does)
The mt3g does not have 32a, they are all 32b. Magics have some 32a versions. (Yes I know they are the same phon, but they are not the same phone, lol.) I can see some stuff not working, but at same time most roms are g1/mt3g compatabile having both build.prop files in rom so thought it woulkd, guess ill have to just try and find out, lol.
Last question. What if I do the duel g1 thing with sim cards in both? Would I get my email on both, but have different phone numbers?

New versions of nandroid don't touch the radio anymore.. the old ones did though.
Not sure about your last question.. I imagine you'll just get emails on both. I don't think there are any restrictions on syncing 2 android devices with the same account.
I was running the latest Cy and just for fun I wanted to try the latest Xrom. So I did a nand backup, tried the Xrom, then flashed back to my backup.
Now my Market is gone as well as Google Voice and a couple of other things. I thought nandroid preserved everything? I've never had stuff missing after a restore. I suppose the new rom messed up my partitions?
I also just clashed a new recovery, but I didn't think that would effect anything?
You need BART or Switchrom for a full backup.
So it looks like I need to start all over then, huh?
yes, i think so, just go back to stock 1.6 i guess and go to whichever rom youd like, xrom, cyan etc.
my phone froze at g1 screen and i rebooted it. so when i came back on the regular lock screen is gone too and the android market app is gone! what do i do to get them back
please people. help me!
without more information theres nothing we can do for you. what rom are you using? what did you do right before the crash? where is the log? provide some information so we can help you.
otherwise, the best we're going to be able to do is tell you to wipe and reflash.
oh ok. its a cyanogen rom 4.2.15.1 i was putting a theme i got from cyanogen updater. and it froze half way. idk wat 2 do cuz im a noobie at this.
1. make sure the theme is compatable with the version you're using. just because it says it's compatable with 4.2.x doesnt mean its current.
2. wipe, reflash CM, nandroid backup, flash theme. if it doesnt work, nandroid restore.
If that doesn't work then flash the CM rom again and let it boot.
Then try a different theme.
ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!
If you like it, SAVE IT!
Hi guys, all of us usually makes a nandroid backup right after we root up phone and install ROM manager (w/ the htc sense still in).
So i have that original backup made. I was wondering, do we make a nandroid backup after we have installed the cyanogen mod? This is so incase anything happens - I can just go back to the state when i first installed my mod and not any further back. I have not heard any suggestions of doing this previously leading me to believe it will not work.
Any input is greatly appreciated !
=)
Well you really dont need one of when you first install the rom, as you can do a "factory reset" in recovery to get back to that point (rom with no apps). You should make a backup as soon as you get all your apps set up, then every few days after that, deleting older ones as newer ones are made.
It certainly won't HURT to make an immediate backup of your Sprint ROM after rooting. That's what I did. Then install the Cyanogen 6.1 mod, and enjoy it. I upgraded my sdcard to 8GB, for more room, and have probably 6 different Nandroid backups , at various points of my progress. Probably overkill, but it's not much of a chore either.
Some people might call it "fun".
Yeah, you don't *have* to do it ever, and *can* do it whenever. It just makes sense to do it before you're about to flash some new stuff, which is why that's all you see.
You can always move them off the sd card and onto your computer too. I have like 2-3 gigs worth of them on my couple comps. (You know, in case I have to go back to how my phone was on 7/15/2010 just before I flashed....something, 40 flashes ago.)

Same here. I got little nandroid bastards running around all over the place. Got em on at least 3 pc's that I know of maybe 4. Oh, and let's not forget the ones on my sd card.

Make a Nandroid once you get things up and running. If you ever need to wipe because a problem is occurring you can just restore the Nandroid and skip the setup process.
