[Request] SMS shell

I'd love to see some sort of shell or replacement for the normal SMS app that maintained all the simple design of the default app (i.e. without Chomp's ugly iPhone clone...I didn't buy an iPhone) but allows us to change colors? I'd love for my texts to maintain the otherwise dominant scheme on the phone, i.e. white text on black background.

There are themes out there that do this, like the prodigal sun theme.

I suggest trying handcent SMS
You can use the original android style instead of Iphone style like I do.
You can change the colors of many things. You can even add a background picture to the threaded messaging screen.

I gave Handcent a shot. Unfortunately, using the Android conversation style with the Black theme doesn't work very well. Take a look

I use the black theme.. But on the threaded view I have a nice picture of nature..
And the message boxes are almost transparent.. It looks beautiful..I'll try to show you a screenshot later.

I agree, Handcent is very customizable and doesn't force you to use the ugly ass iphone bubbles.

You may want to try either a rogers based ROM, or try moving the messaging app from a rogers build.. It comes with black background/white text messaging.

[SKIN] ZZ Cartoon Bubble SMS Skin v0.2 (Compose SMS Screen)

This CAB will install a skin/theme to the WM SMS screen (Compose SMS Screen ONLY!). The bubble will expand as you type, not fixed background.
Note: Tested on WVGA only.
V0.2 - dialog box now with border. So that you can use white background.
* Please uninstall V0.1 first you if you have it before.
Customize:
1) \windows\sms_compose_bubbleu.png - You can change the cartoon to whichever character you like, or it could even be yourself! Best fit with transparent background.
2) Change background color:
2a) Edit \windows\zz_compose_style.css >
body {
margin: 2px;
background-color: #000000; => edit this line to change the background color! You can refer the color code from:
* http://html-color-codes.com/
2b) Replace zz_sms_compose_tl.png, zz_sms_compose_tr.png, zz_sms_compose_bl.png, zz_sms_compose_br.png, zz_sms_compose_dot.png to the background or border color you want, using this tool:

I was inspired by AndyNear threaded SMS skin, and Ahen and Ganondolf SMS background. But unlike SMS background, this is more CSS than fixed background. I did the scripting myself. May be a bit raw but still is my own work.

Thx for the file. I try to edit my original compose_sms.htm without good result. Do u know what resolution of picture could be used on Rhodium? I used 480x800 resolution but only show a little part of the picture.
And I wanna white background and not black like urs. How could I do it?

Change Windows mobile System colors

Hi,
Does someone knows how to change wm6.1 system color?
For exampled for default all windows background is white and test color is black(ex SMS page or email or start menu).
I want to change the background to black and text to white.Is this possible?

I too would like to know..when creating 2D Manila on topics I need to change the font color ... I found t through the registry modification but the old Manila. The new does not work. Any advice?
question no.2 is possible to add in "homesettings.xml" button from the launcher program to hometoday instead of the calendar? .. I use Manila 2D

[Skin] WVGA Phonex WP7 Skin for Versions 2.2-3.0 (Updated 8/15)

I did an English version of vita-minka's WP 7 skin at 4pda. All credits to her.
See attached picture of the dialer.
Just unzip and copy the .ist file in Iconsoft/PhonEx/skins.
Once again, this skin only works for WVGA devices with PhonEx versions 2.2-3.0!
Enjoy!

I've installed your Theme. Nice.
However, tap Contacts, Calls, Favorites: color of the text is not white, was quite dark. You can edit?
At the same time you create a new version of a white background, black text even more fantastic.

all my texts are in white. can you post a screenshot for me to see exactly what's the problem.
btw, it's not my theme. it's vita-minka's. i've just edited her phonepad to have english letters instead of russian.

this is just a skin for phonex, and i don't think i can work on making any more changes to the skin aside from what i've done.
as i see it, you got white text on black background on your phonex. that's how it should be. do you want it to be black text on white background to match your wp7 ui? sorry, i can't do it.

can you please make a skin with this color? please.. if you dont have time, can you please teach me how to change it to the color orange to match my todayxlive skin.

Hello everyone!
I am a long time XDA user since the days of Windows Mobile skinning, under the name htctoucher. I'm now using the name aBbtdesigns (coming from Blackberry Themeing - see http://bbtdesigns.com) and am starting to create themes for Android!
It's been several years since I was active on XDA Forums, used to love this site, and am looking to get back into it!

Your themes are truly amazing.
I did not buy one (i personally find themes that cost more than 1 euro expensive), but the screenshots are way more beautiful than any other skin i 've seen in the market

welcome to Android world! i remember testing themes for you back when i had my Bold 9700, not sure if you remember. ill definitely be having an eye out for your Android works now.

Are you taking requests? I like how you make themes for both Go SMS & Touchpal so that they can match!
I'm currently using the Dark Swift themes (which match fine) but testing out the Dark Blue themes (which don't match quite correctly).
Can the Touchpal keyboard be changed so that the letters on Touchpal are Black instead of White (to match the SMS chat bubble). Also, the color on Touchpal seems off by a little but, possibly due to the gradiant. Can the Touchpal blue color be made a few shades darker to match the SMS bubble blue color?

Glad to hear you're liking the themes!
I just checked it out. I don't think I'll be doing black letters on the keyboard just for visibility issues.
Although I can look into changing the color to white on the SMS bubbles. What do you think?

I sent the mail through the address listed in the Market (ok, the Play Store..grr).
I'm not even sure which theme I'm using at the moment, I've been switching around a lot and still can't decide on a keyboard. Every time I try to stick with one, things jump out that annoy me & I switch to another (then repeat). Touchpal is pretty good, but has some annoyances (and while updates come out regularly, the dev doesn't seem to be responding anywhere).
Mostly, I like having the keyboard & sms match themes. In the case of the Dark Blue theme, the black text on blue looks pretty good in Go SMS, trying to imagine what it would look like on the keyboard (black letters on the blue keys). Could go white text in GO Sms, but might be a small step the wrong way (and upset people using it already). Either way, please don't change just for me - I don't think I'm going to stick with the Dark Blue Touchpal skin, it's just too bright for me.
In general, the ones I tend to like are darker skins with color accents. (Perhaps a version of Dark Blue Touchpal - flipped - so the keys are black and the accent/letters are the blue to match the Dark Blue Go SMS theme?)
Finally, I made a feeble attempt with the theme builder to make a GO Sms theme to match the "Classic" touchpal look (grey keys with black letters and blue accents. I used mspaint to grab the rgb values of the skin & made backrounds & bubbles in Go Sms to match the keyboard.... and it looks like like crap. Somewhere in there, I'd love to see a Go Sms theme to match the Classic Touchpal look. I know you can do a much better job then I can

Read your post again today and I am wondering if you've checked out the Dark Phone Series. By your description it seems like it would fit perfectly into your request for black keys with blue accent highlights.
