How to Install/Use eugene373's 550Mhz Overclock Kernel for G1? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
For those who have tried it, can you please give me some pointers on how to install the kernel to CM's ROM? http://twitter.com/eugene373 - download it from http://shrinkify.com/1p6p, eugene373's work enables G1 users to install setcpu and use Droid's settings to get a 550Mhz (up from our normal 528Mhz).
I have tried flashing it using the recovery console, but came up with a lot of "google partner setup errors" that does not enable me to access most applications. Can someone guide me on how to safely install this? Thanks a lot.

I'd love to know this as well, accept I have a MT3G 32B and when I flashed it, both times I hung on the MyTouch screen...no dice so far.

This turned out to be a hoax, it only shows that the CPU is running faster but it really isnt.

Well, I don't think hoax is the right word for it because that implies malice intent.

It was just the first word that came to mind I know there was no malice intent.

Anyone, can you please guide me on how to make multiple things like this work. Anytime I try to screw with the kernel update, my camera dies, and vice versa. Maybe a consolidated update.zip can do the trick for us noobs

Of which I am referring. I am currently, successfully, running with JIT enabled. I now know that the desire cam works fine after the first FC, but still I can't successfully install the OC'd kernel without screwing one of these things up. I am asking this question directly to those of which have the know-how to create signed update files. I guess I could figure it out myself, but I'm lazy.
If there is a process at which I can use in order to perform what I'd like to do, that'd be appreciated.

If you have previously had the Oc-d kernel going, you shouldn't have any difficulty having those (Desire CAM + JIT Enabled 5.0.5.3 + OC and UV Kernel) working together, because, the way to install them into the phone is as per previous versions (adb pushing the files for JIT and OC/UV and update.zip for Desire Cam).

Help with over clocking

Ok, I am a total noob and I only understand about half of what I have read, but I am addicted to this stuff. I have a hero with the latest sprint release (2.1) and then I rooted (thanks to Regaw) it and loaded a non OC'd version of Aloysius 2.1 and then moved to the PureHero 2.1.
However, I cannot run ANY overclocked ROM's, not one. I have tried other builds and other dev's and it just boot loops. I have the kernel for OC'ing, but it just won't boot when an OC'd ROM is flashed.
Am I out of luck with this device?
Thanks!

Yes forgot that part. I have wiped EVERYTHING on the device and still nothing.
This is a known problem... some phones simply... can't handle overclocking. Sorry bud.

Figures. I want to try out a few other ROM's and can't. Figures.....oh well, at least Aloyisus 2.1 is a great ROM.
Edit: Weird thing happened, I flashed Blue Echo and got to it's boot screen, but then it boot looped.
Hey just wanted to update, thanks to D3fault and this link, I was able to OC my phone. I am running 710 on Aloysius 2.1 snow (768 froze my phone, thank heaven for Nandroid) via the OC widget on the market. My LWP is faster and my phone loads pages FAST. One thing though, I still cannot download OC'd ROM's.
Anyone have another suggestion?

Yes, place on SD and flash. Once I did that I was able to grab the OC widget from the market and run aloysius 2.1 at 710. Makes a pretty significant difference BTW. Here is a link, http://forum.androidcentral.com/162759-post49.html

[Q] RyanZA version of OCLF for 2.2?

Is there or will there be a Froyo version of the RyanZa OCLF?. I used the one for 2.1 and it was great, now waiting patiently for a 2.2 version, i am hesitant to use Cog at this time. Thanks.
The OCLF that Ryan has in the Android Market already works on 2.2
Download it and use it.

RyanZA's OCLF 2.0 does not work if you updated to i897UCJI6, 2.2 release. I even tried to force it and it failed.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. I have it installed and working perfectly on my phone and I do have i897UCJI6 installed. And I am not the only one.
Edit: As proof, here are some screenshots from my phone.

O.K...Please tell me how you did that. When I tried I only got errors and the phone rebooted.
I just did it. Downloaded from the market, and did what it told me.
Make sure you're already rooted. Then run the app. Install ext2 tools. Then run the Install Lagfix 2.1+. I set my file size to 1024 which equals 1 GB. Then I hit ok and let it do it's stuff. It worked first time.
Ahh..there is the problem. I am not rooted..that was what I was trying to accomplish. When I installed the i897UCJI6 update is removed my root. So now I have to find a way to root the phone again.
Are you familiar with how to use ADB and how to read and follow directions EXACTLY?
If so, go to this post, download the file attached to the post, and follow the directions to the word.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8417542&postcount=1
I am not familiar with ADB but I can follow directions. I'm thinking I may just be a little patient and wait for a one click version to come out.
If you feel willing enough, I can root your phone for you
Thanks for the offer, I think I am going to be a bit patient.
Alright.

The helpfulness of xda forum members never ceases to amaze me. I came because my Captivate lured me here with its Siren's Song. I stayed because this place makes me feel ignorant in a very good way -- like thirsty for knowledge. And I will continue to humbly and quietly read for a while more until I feel I can be more inquisitively intelligent. In the meantime, I've made my contribution more constructively.
Not to be hyperbolic, but never have so many owed so much to . . . yada yada yada.
I leave you with one of my father's favorite jokes (retired electrical engineer and former TI-99 4A owner) -- since I'm going back to self edification mode. So many threads to read . . . Joke:
. . . There's only 10 kinds of people in this world -- those who understand Binary and those who don't.
I'm a big fan of RyanZA -- *12 year old girly shriek* -- hence the virgin-first-post-noob-verbosity.
And this thread certainly deserves bumpage. But I've come to feel a visceral disdain any pressuring of devs who put out gifts for us to use to make our phoines so much better. So, whenever, Ryan. Going back into incognegro mode anyway.

[Q] How to change to EXT4???

Can someone help me to change to EXT4??? How to do that??? Just tried to find out in the forum but i did not figure out....Thankssss
Voodoo lag fix will convert your internal storage into EXT4.
Ow thanks man!!! But, where can i get the voodoo for captivate??? Do you have the link???
Never mind...I was reading in other sites that voodoo replaces the main kernel and it could cause some issue whem the official release from 2.2 comes. I will not trie.
Is there some other way to change to EXT4 or is better to use the OCLF in EXT2???
Any change to the file system (any lag fix) will have to be reverted before you flash any ROMs.
Actually, according to what I've read, OCLF's ext2 loopback may have better results than EXT4.
Yeah man...I heard the samething!!! My friend just tried EXT4 and told me that OCLF gives you more quadrands in the benchmark.

quadrant scores are over inflated on our devices using OCLF...it means nothing in reality.

Don't install that one click lag fix, simply install a rom that has the ulf or voodoo lagfix already built in.

ext2 is 17-year-old filesystem technology and is not a safe option, especially for a portable device and with the way Android works.
I could make a car go faster too by removing all its safety features.

It's actually not that big of a deal, since the underlying RFS is journaled. The worst that will happen is you'll lose a few minutes of data if your phone crashes while you're in the middle of doing something.
My problem is...I just tried the Voodoo, but im using 2.2 UCJI6...and i think it does not support the voodoo kernel...i dont know...i tried 2 times and my phone freezed in the boot startup...
So, i went back to OCLF 2.3 and i can tell, my phone is very very fast....also getting 1912 quadrants...I know that could not be real...But the boot is very fast...to open apps is very fast as well...everything is nice so far...
If someone know some way to get EXT4 or EXT3 with UCJI6, please help me...As far as i know JI6 does not support voodoo yet...i found other guys with the same issue like me...
Can someone give me some information how can i change that???

you need to read in the developers section. there is plenty of info about this. there is a kernel that supports it. there is also a ULF kernel that gives you many more options. most of the roms are running it.
If you want to keep to stock then try Cognition 4.1.1. They are basing it from the KB1 leaked release. Note that the KB1 leaked and official is basically the same. It has ClockworkMod built in with support for the Voodoo lagfix. Worked great for me. First rom I had flashed and stuck with.
EDIT: I just realized I bumped a 3 month old post. My thread list was set to sort by subject rather than date.... Sorry.

[Q] Froyo by Laszlo Questions (More at bottom)

Hello there, I recently flashed CM6 to my G1 and used Zeam for a faster launcher, but friends are telling me that when they used CM6, their phone got slower and slower as time went on, and that I should seek alternatives.
I hear one of the best Android 2.2 roms out there is Froyo by Laszlo, and from reading it seems the only major difference is that it can use the more recent radio/spl/kernel which adds 15MB, and that it's generally lighter than CM6 as well.
Can anyone give me a rundown on what some of the other major differences are? I also hear other good ones are ezterry's AOSP and Froyo for Trout.
As for upgrading the Radio and SPL needed for Froyo by Laszlo:
Considering I have DangerSPL (HBOOT-1.33.2005), RA's Recovery, and Radio 2.22.23.02, is there anything extra I need to worry about other than what's outlined in this thread?
Thanks in advance.

Your pretty much good with everything on the radio and spl, but check out the original thread just to make sure:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
I did look at the thread, but it still doesn't say what makes it so different.
I suppose the best way to know for sure is to try it for myself, so thanks for clarifying.

I have not tried froyo by laszlo, but i have tried cm6 , so i cant tell what the difference is, but another major difference is that froyo by laszlo has apps2sdext, which allows you to install apps in a ext3 or ext 4 partition on your sd card, while cm6 does not.
I noticed that, does it set up the partitions for you, or will I have to do this myself? What would a good size for them be?

Yes you will, this thread might help you with partitioning your sd card for ext4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097920
its on page 3, but the whole thread might be helpful
Okay, thanks for that, I'm going to try it now.
EDIT: Last question, does the updated kernel for 2708 come pre-installed with Froyo by Laszlo or does that have to be done separately as well?
EDIT2: D'oh, nevermind, I saw it in the features list. Right now it's booting, hope it works!
EDIT3: Wow, they weren't lying, Laszlo did a great job, it's lightning fast! I'm not partial to the theme choice, but I know this can be changed easily.
Thanks for your help.
I do have a few more questions though;
1. How do I revert to the Android 2.2 Google Market? The new one feels a bit too cluttered to me, and flashing CM6 Google Apps did not change this
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I simply ended up replacing the lock screen with Froyo's, as well as tweaking the status bar (making it a gradient rather than solid black, for example)
ok my personal opinion... froyobylaszlo the BEST froyo rom hands down... only issue i find is that the developer stopped updating soo you can take it upon yourself to make changes if you dont like it.. but still to this day i thinks its the best.. sorry to offend anyone by saying that but its only my personal opinion... lazslo rom is just so smooth and stable..
my sd was 128mb swap and 1024mb ext4 and i used this kernel... http://www.4shared.com/file/1j_4eg7x/ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_.html
honestly you will love this rom but i recomend upgrading your radio and hboot... can follow this guide or the one you posted earlier by habbitat22, they are kinda the same..
