Google Maps-I know this is a dumb question - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

How in the heck do I update Google Maps on my CDMA Hero? I cannot locate it in the market from the phone. On the phone Maps is showing version 3.1.2
Very confusing.....
Help!!!!

What ROM are you running? If your running stock or any Android 1.5 based ROMs then you can't update GMaps due to the newer versions requiring Android 1.6+.

Which is an Android 1.5 based ROM & this why there isn't a GMaps update.

actually I think the latest update may require 2.0 or higher.

Nope, GMap 4.0 requires 1.6+. Currently running on the AOSP 1.6 for the CDMA Hero.

That sux..................

got ckdroid 1.6 and v4 update says not signed correctly

I'm pretty sure they all have multitouch support
try Super D in my sig
if the maps doesn't have mt then have a look at the gmaps link
Yeah I think most of the ROMs support it now, but bear in mind you'll have to use browsers or apps that use multitouch. SuperD is awesome. I'm currently running enomther's TheOfficial Donut w/ expansion pack v2.5.1 (TMO OTA DRC83 cuz I like being able to check my Yahoo mail) and generally use Dolphin Browser. Both are great 1.6-based ROMs with a lot of mods, including multitouch.

CM5.0.8-test3 question

Well this is a question for any of the test releases I guess... Can I perform an in place upgrade from 5.0.8-test3 (current test release) to the production release once it's out?
I just about got my FRF50 stock to the way I like it and I always dread wiping all and starting over (installing all my market apps, config home screen, wifi access points, etc). If I have to do for test3 that's ok, I really would like to avoid having to do it again once 5.0.8 comes out...
I know - I could always just wait but I keep hearing good things (+ 720p recording now) , even with the "test" release and want to check it out...
PS - Is 5.0.8-test2 based on the leaked FRF50 or is it still 2.1?

Thanks for the quick reply. I remember now - 2.2 was going to be represented in the CM 6.x releases - 5.x will be 2.1
I'll wait for CM 6.0

2.2.1 if you're talking about froyo overall.
No official version for captivate yet. I forget the latest build but everyone's using i9000/vibrant versions anyways.

[Q] Looking for bare Android 2.1 ROM without HTC Sense

Hi,
I'm looking for a ROM for the Wildfire, with bare Android 2.1 (Eclair) and WITHOUT HTC Sense installed. It means that the Contact and Calendar applications must be the original Android 2.1 ones, not the HTC Sense ones. It seems these native applications are not installed on the HTC ROMs and are replaced with customized ones. And it is not possible to restore them using "Clear default actions" in HTC Sense application options. I spent some time looking for such a ROM but couldn't fine one (I only found several ones with Froyo). Would you have a hint ?
Thanks.
I've not seen any AOSP 2.1 ROM's. There's plenty for Froyo though. CM is my favourite. Why do you want 2.1 over 2.2?
I need a 2.1 ROM because I need to do specific tests with this version which behaves differently from the 2.2+.

Sorry but I don't think there is any. Just had a look on Modaco and Villainrom too but there's no AOSP 2.1 ROMS. Could you use the emulator in the SDK?
Thank you for having dome some searches.
> Could you use the emulator in the SDK?
No, it is not as complete and lack some applications.
you may try wildpuzzle 2.1 and use its "remove HTC apps" patch....
not sure if you want that only though.. bt theres no harm trying
I think the early (buggy) builds of openfire rom were 2.1 but I cant find any now.
All I can find from the moment is version 2.0 which is Froyo.
Found one!!! It's pretty buggy but...

I may try that if this patch restores the original contact and calendar application.
Could you tell me where this patch can be installed ? Is there a place which describes how it could be installed ?

Thanks ! I tried it but unfortunately the calendar application crashes. It seems related to a problem with feeds... Maybe it's because this ROM didn't include Google stuff (account, feeds, etc.).
Wasn't there a 2.1 cyan build?

[Q] Is there a Donut ROM with no Google Apps included?

So, I've tried all the Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs and I've decided that I'm coming back to Donut once and for all, for better battery life and (on my phone) stability. However, most Donut ROMs haven't been updated in ages and the Google apps that are included with them are also outdated. I can't seem to update them from the Market, I guess because they're installed in ROM and can't be modified. Is there a Donut ROM (ZXDonut 2.6 is the one I've been using most) that doesn't have any Google apps installed? Other than Market, I suppose.
Maybe CM4?
