This might be a very stupid question, but how can I see when I received an SMS? As long as they were sent/received today there is no problem, but for earlier days all I get is the date or 'yesterday'.
If I'm out on town and check my hero for messages at 00:01 it is kind of important if the message "Hi, I'm at xyz-bar, meet me there!" was received at 23:59 or 19:30...
Yeh i have same problem... Only workaround i could think of was install an app like HandCent SMS - that does exactly what u want...
/Smirge
I missed this functionality too so been using handcent sms for the last month or so and does the job nicely. Just make sure you turn off the default messaging app auto retrival so you dont get the same message notified in each app.
Thanks guys, handcent seems to do the job just fine, while displaying the actual date and time!
If you don't like Handcent, there's also something called SMS Time Fix or something along those lines.

Has anyone else had problems with the time stamps for Chomp and/or Handcent after updating to rooted 2.2 on their DroidX? The timestamps are correct in the native messaging app, but everything shows up with a time stamp 5 hours earlier than the actual time received.
Yeah a lot of people are reporting it. It's a widespread issue.
Yes I have definitely noticed this as well as it randomly moving my picture messages to different places than they originated (if that makes any sense...)
i'm almost fed up to the point where I want to go back to stock . .
Both devs are good about updating bugs, it is probably an easy fix that they will have corrected in a couple of days.
Handcent just updated theirs and fixed time stamp issue on froyo for Droid x was in the release notes

Handcent is back up for me with correct time stamp and I can't recreate my MMS issue which is cool.
Another thing I love about switching to android...bug fixes don't take extra time for approvals...ahhhhh life is sweet!
Guess on to handcent

After the handcent update my timestamp is fast an hour.

Ugh...noticing the time stamp bug again. 3 hours ahead but only on a couple of texts.
Anybody else?
If you're still seeing a timestamp issue, install Handcent, then optionally go into settings and toy with the Timestamp adjust option until it shows up correctly. I don't believe this will have any effect on the native app, and for some reason conversations may still show in the wrong order in the convo list, but at least the messages are in the right order.
I'm still having the problem. Changing the offset does nothing.
Are you testing by sending new messages after changing the offset or just looking to see if it fixed the messages you already recieved?
I'm pretty sure changing the offset will only fix the order of newly recived messages since the change, and only in the Handcent app. Keep in mind, it will not fix the order on the conversations screen. Only when you tap through to see each conversation.
I love Handscent SMS but there are a few problems....
When I sent messages people seem to get them twice...at least with MMS...
When I get messages my notification tone plays twice...and it's annoying. Even though I have already set handscent as the default messaging program it still does these things...is there a way to avoid it?
I tried Chomp SMS and it said something about disabling notifications in Android. I haven't got to test this much but it may work for Handscent also. I prefer Handscent so far over Chomp. The layout is a little nicer.

go into your stock messaging app settings (not handcent settings) and disable notifications. that should fix the double notification tone.
dont know about the double mms thing you are having though. i love handcent and i refuse to use the default messaging app
I sometimes get double replies from people through handcent though I don't think I'm actually receiving the SMS twice. It seems like some glitch :x .. as for MMS.. I'm not too sure but Handcent has a dedicated forum you should try visiting with a question as they would probably have a better answer X_x

I have a rooted i896 running Cognition v2.3b6. Now by default, when I used the sms app, the time listed for text messages that i receive are 5 hours in the past (at 945pm i received an sms, but the time listed under the text was 445). Because when I my text messages that are sent with the proper time, so in the text message thread my text messages are always first and my recipients texts appear always before in the thread.
I what I didnt was I changed my time zone to account for the 5 hour gap.
So after I did this, most of the text message appear in order except for messages that are sent/received in the same minute. For texts send during the same minute, my sent always appear after even if it is sent before.
I read on these forums that this is a problem with time stamping of the text from the carrier or something, but there was not explanation on how to fix this.
Is anyone else having this problem and found out a way to fix it?

You can download an app called "Sms Time Fix" and put it to adjust by 5 hours. You can also download "Handcent" or another 3rd party messaging app and the time will be correct.
I had a very similar problem. After i got my phone unbricked and loaded the latest version of cognition onto the phone the timestanps were five hours off. I am now using handcent and have no probles whatsoever with the timestamps.
Don't forget to go into tibu and "freeze" your original sms program that came stock with the phone.

I've scoured the forums for an answer but all of these seemed to be pointing to the actual stock SMS app or another like Handcent.
What I'm talking about is that on third party applications that send SMS data to a server, the timestamp (apparently for all motorola phones) is delayed on applications such as:
DeskSMS
Web Desktop
LazyDroid
I'm experiencing this problem. Although on texting applications on the phone the timestamp is correct, on these third party applications that send information to my computer the time is around 4-5 hours behind.
Any theories/fixes? I have a feeling the normal time fix app won't work for this...
It's a known problem for all text messaging functions (phone and tied to PC). It has to do with how the date codes are stored in the text message database (which all SMS programs use). If you use SMS Backup and Restore to backup, then view your messages, all your received would be a few hours older.
On the phone, Go SMS works just fine (probably reads and writes to the database itself, instead of going through Motorola's crappy SMS programming). Dunno about the PC end. Although if you use LazyDroid and GO SMS at the same time, you'll get two copies of the same message: correct and old dated. Not the best workaround, but it's something.
Technically speaking, the Motorola coding (with Stock and apparently Handcent use to interface with the database) causes the date to be written as if your local current time IS the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT 0). When another program reads the code without using the Motorola programming, it tries to convert the
"GMT" to your time zone. So for me on the East Coast of the US, I'm on GMT-5. Add a difference of 1 for Daylights savings time in the US, and my messages are 4 hours old.
I don't have any issues. I get texts basically instantly from chrome to phone as well with the stock messaging services.

i'm going to bump this because I have a weird issue.
i use GO SMS Pro and wanted to use Light Flow to control the LED on the device. When you disable GO SMS native notification settings and uncheck the 'block other notifications' it allows the Light Flow controls to work, but I see the issue where all the received timestamps are 5 hours behind (I'm in the eastern time zone). However, if i do check the 'block other notifications' it works fine, but Light Flow blocks all use of the LED for text messaging. Kind of annoying since I don't see how Light Flow can reveal this bug, but after uninstalling the issue goes away.

I'd assume you do not use your phone on Verizon. Anyways - there is an app on the market called SMS Time Fix. I think it can solve your issue without having to replace standard SMS client.
I was using go sms for like 14 hrs. Deleted it, tho. It was nice to theme it but for some reason it kept reverting my theme to the default and or would revert some aspects of it while keeping others.
Ill just wait for a rom, I don't really have that big of an issue with the stock app.

Not sure if you're on a Droid3, but my SMS Time Fix doesn't work all the time on my Bell XT860 (running on Rogers). How has your experience been? Most of the time it gets the right timestamp, but sometimes it doesn't. Is there any way I can tell if the task manager is killing the app or...?

I am indeed using Bell XT860 on Rogers. SMS timestamp fix works fine for me. Without it installed messages are stamped with GMT time.
Beside installing it you need to open it, set it active (it is disabled by default) and choose method to correct time (adjustment method) - select top one - Time zone.
So today I was texting and realized that I now have to select the "split long messages" box on the texting app that I've always been using, textra, to send long text messages. Now the person I am in a conversation with receives more that one messages depending on how long the message is instead of just receiving one long message. Since I started using the note 4 I never had to do this and I appreciated it so much because my last phone made me do that to send messages period. Splitting messages just annoys me and I'm wondering why now I all of a sudden have to do that. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it? I did revert back to the original messaging app but it was doing the same thing, I also barely used the original messaging app because I downloaded textra as soon as I began using the N4.
