New Program which makes this obsolete.
Link
Bay_wolf's ROM Installer:
This is just an intial release but should be fairly bug free. One known bug is that in Windows 7 (possibly Vista), sometimes after finishing the application it asks if the program installed successfully. Just press that it did successfully install and it'll go away. Just for safety on my behalf: I'm distributing this program as-is and no guarantee that it will not hurt your phone. So, use at your own risk and don't blame me for bricking your phone.
Now that the legal (save my butt) stuff is out of the way...
Before Using this program, backup using Titanium Backup if you so desire.
To use this program you need to:
Be on the stock Captivate ROM or have flashed back to it using ODIN. This most likely will not work with Captivates running Froyo.
Enable USB debugging mode- Go to settings> Applications> Development> And then check the box next to USB debugging.
Have the USB drivers for the Captivate installed on your computer. You can get them here.
Have the ROM of your desire downloaded to your hard drive.
Know a little bit about flashing and ROMs.
And that's about it. Most of the instructions are given to you by the program and are not needed to be written out here. If you find any part confusing, please comment in this thread and I'll try to implement it in the next release and I'll tell you what it means as a temporary solution.
Download: ROM Installer 1.1
Bay_wolf's Recovery App:
Also included here is an app that's just designed to reboot your phone into recovery mode. It's great for not having to press buttons after flashing to stock. Just make sure your phone is plugged in and not mounted and it'll reboot you into recovery mode when you open the program. This can be used with any Captivate and possibly more phones (can't test that as I don't have any other ones).
Download: Recovery App 1.0
Donations are appreciated if you found this program helpful:
Very intresting, will test it out and let you know how it goes.

Thanks! If you find something wrong, please let me know and I'll fix it.
Looks very interesting. Can't wait to try it out!
Updated the ROM Installer. Made some of the wording of the steps a little easier.
So this is like a easier Odin? Good idea
I like it, it is very good for beginners as they can be assured of the steps to flash a ROM. Great Job

Kind of. It's what you use after ODIN to get the custom ROM installed. Hopefully in 2.0 release it'll all be integrated.

Literally spent all day trying to root my CDMA Hero. Nothing works. I cannot use sync because it disconnects with the debugging and does not allow me to install a previous RUU. So I decided to use an app on the store (one click rooters like z4) it seemed like it worked, got SuperUser, said that my XC Chip was still on...soo I guess Im not rooted. Didn't notice that till I tried to install Cyanogenmod 7 2.3.2 on my device, which sent it back to my saved place (forgot what its called lol). Have no Idea where to go, anyone have a solution to the sync, seems like it would be the easiest way to do it. I have read the wikis, searched, done all I could do. Now I come to you, Help pleaseeee.
Software if you need it
Baseband Version 2.42.02.10.29
well i personally have had the same issues with one click roots,
Id HIGHLY suggest look at the Cyanogenmod wiki
to root and before rooting setting up ABD through the SDK

edit: PM me if you need anything else
Are you still having trouble gaining root???

The XC, you are referring to is actually for Engineering bootloader S-ON or S-OFF. This has no effect on rooting your phone. Everyone here had S-ON until sometime late last year.
What OS are you running? Windows, Mac, Linux
32bit or 64 bit?
Did you flash a recovery?
Were you able to boot into recovery? (Power off phone, while holding home button, press the power button)
What did you get?
Did you try installing titanium backup to see if you were root?
Download busybox from the market and then open it up and install 1.18.
Try TB again.
Or try installing ROM manager and flash clockwork mod from the app.
Without more info it is really hard to help.

Still having troubles. Im running 64 bit Windows, I thought I flashed a recovery.
When I press home and power to power on I get
"Clearstorage" "Yes" "no"
thats all...
I installed wireless tether for root, when I went to install Cyano it deleted all my apps besides superuser and wont let me download any of them anymore...
You need anymore info?

Yes I read this, this is actually what I used. Problem is that I cannot use HTC Sync. It never lets me update my RUU for some odd reason...
Update lol. Seems like I am still rooted, I can download and use Wifi Tethering for Root Users. And when in Astro file manager I have a file called \root I believe. question is where do I go from now!
Well it depends on what you want to do with your phone. If its running fine then leave it and just boot into recovery and make a backup incase you need it in the future. To do this "make a backup "
Power off. Then hold down volume down and press power. After the white screen appears press home and wait until your recovery appears. Then select backup and restore. From there you should be able to figure it out. If not then just post and you'll receive advice from other members or my self. If you were looking to further mod your phone you could load one of many custom roms provided by the great developers here, increase internal memory to add more storage, load a different kernel to overclock or change the look of your phone
by flashing a custom theme. Its up to you how far you want to take your phone. Well hope this helps.

How do you flash it? Is it basically the same as when I did Cyanogenmod, just go to ROM manager and install it or what? Thanks for all the help btw, I got 2.3 now, just trying to get it the way I want now...
Im a little puzzled as to when you post "flash it" care to share what it is your referring to. If its a rom, then yes you could flash it threw rom manger, but I wouldn't recommend it. The safest way Imo is threw your recovery if you want to flash a rom. Also if your referring to a rom which one??? And when you post "the way you want" what is it that your trying to achieve???

Looks wise and apps is what I mean by "the way I want". And basically what I am talking about is custom themes/looks. How would I flash those through recovery. Thats what I am puzzled about lol
Well if your on 2.3 you should have the theme chooser. If that's the case you locate the theme apk. Download it to your sd card. Then open up a file manger and install the theme apk as you would a regular app. Then exit out of your file manger and go to your app drawer and open up theme chooser. Then select the theme you just installed. After its done installing just reboot. Some of the theme chooser themes have extra add on you have to apply to get the full look of theme. The add ons you have to install via zip themer or metamorph. The zip themer you can find in the android themes and apps thread. It might be on the android market but I'm not sure. Metamorph you can find on the android market. If you need help with that aquire either app and just let me know. Now if your theme is flashable via recovery. Download the theme to the root of your sd card. Which means just put the theme on your sd card and not in any folders. Then boot into recovery by powering down. Then hold volume down. Then press the power button. After the screen appears press the home button. Then when your recovery appears. Always make a backup first. Then choose install update zip or flash update zip. Then locate the theme zip and press the track ball. It will ask you to confirm press the track ball for yes or home for no. Press the track ball and when its done press back and choose reboot. When you reboot you should have your rom themed. Make sure the theme your flashing is for your rom because not all themes are for all roms and if you flash the wrong theme you could be entering boot loop city. Also make sure your battery is at least 60 % to flash anything. This is just my opinion on the battery. Well hope this helps. If you find a certain theme you want to install let me know if you run into any problems.

Hey there, I flashed my IS into a sense 3.0 gingerbread 2.3 ROM. It took me 3 days LMAO
I know that when I was doing it I needed all the help I could get.
If anyone wants to know how I did it to help you on your way than reply.
I will be happy to help.
Please note that I only know how to do what "I" did. I am not an expert in any way..and only know how to help with getting the **Virtuous Unity 1.27.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid** onto your phone.
Happy Flashing!!! I am very happy with this ROM ... It is the best one out there taken from the official shipping release of HTC.

Ah, but how do you know it's the best one if it's the only one you've used?
Because it has many good reviews. It its the best one in terms of getting the sense 3.0 and gingerbread 2.3. Which is what the new HTC Sensation has. Also it is a shippping release which pretty much means that it is the real deal.
Ok, for reference, what did you do. Already S OFF and rooted. Does the new MOD have better battery performance?
I am on my way to work as of now and will copy and paste what I had done later. I am noticing right now that the battery is not the most optimal. But we will see. I flashed virtuous unity BTW. Sense 3.0 with 2.3 gingerbread

You need to S-OFF your phone (otherwise it wont work) This is the first step:
(1) GoHere...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XshvRmAcgm8 This is an awesome youtube video of how to S-OFF with AlpharevX
** After that you need to install the CWM recovery but first (instead of looking at alpharevX's difficult instruction) Do THIS:
(2) Go here(easy step)
This will give you instructions on downloading a Flasher. What that does is flash certain things onto your device while its plugged in.
**Once you have downloaded that, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=14693680 (only download the recovery image for Incredible S)
It is the 3rd step I do believe.
When you are done downloading it. Go into the file and grab the file called recovery (image file) and drag it to your "downloads" folder.
**Open up Android Flash 1.8 and plug in your device. Click on Recovery on the left hand side. It will prompt you to a folder (it wants you to open the Recovery image file I told you to place in "downloads") Either way....find that file!!
Click on the file and Android flasher will do the rest.
Im pretty sure it boots your screen for you but if it doesnt
YOU NOW HAVE CLOCKWORKMODE RECOVERY
To see if you successfully downloaded it:
** Power down your phone
**Press and hold the DOWN volume and POWER button
**Move the volume up and down keys to select "RECOVERY" it is second down I do believe
**Press the POWER button to select "Recovery"
**You will now be prompted to a screen witch is CMW recovery.
After that go to the "reboot" option.
(3) To ROOT your phone(last step)
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=14693680
Just follow thier instructions. Its pretty easy!
After that you will want to download this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1104765 It works the best with the flashing ROMS. If you feel comfortable downloading this recovery first than it is up to you. Like I said I downloaded the clockworkmode recovery first so that I can get the phone rooted via AlphaRev's instructions. Any questions???

So flashing the actual ROM wasn't a problem? I take it you don't have to S OFF the radio in order to flash a new radio with this ROM to get the best out of it?

No flashing the ROM isnt the problem. If you have to get a radio for the ROM than that is apparently the most trickiest part. Please do it with caution and read instructions carefully. You need to S-OFF to get a ROM...and I am pretty sure you need to ROOT to get a rom aswell. Sorry about the links..I have no idea why they are broken. I will try to find them.

If you like the stock ROM then I suggest Android Revolution HD. It's built from the IS stock release but with bloatware removed, optimised for better battery life and more customisable. Virtuous Unity ROM gets you Sense 3.0, but that comes with higher power demands thanks to all the extra fancy graphics and such.
Oh, and for reference, you don't necessarily need radio S-OFF to flash a new radio, but you do need to do it carefully as you can brick your phone if you don't follow the correct process exactly.
Thanks. I have been undecided on weather or not to flash ARHD. When you say carefully, do you mean following the his flashing procedure step by step, or are you refering to flashing the radio? Obviously want to flash the radio to get the most out of the ROM.
Yeah I mean follow instructions carefully. What I used was ask. Its not too difficult but you have to read. Go and Google sdk. Download it, u are going to have to retrieve your drivers for ur phone. But just follow the instructions on downloading sdk etc... I will put up a link of where I got it from. You just have to follow instructions that's all..and yes the radio is needed if you are upgrading to gingerbread when flashing a new rom.

I'm just a new member (it's my first post in fact). I would like to ask a question directly to spyrosk (development-related thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737) about the Toolkit developed by him, but as being a new member I'm not permitted to do so. Besides, I'm just an user, I'm not a developer at all, so my question below can seem stupid...
I used his toolkit installing the official ROM ICS 4.0.4 on my LG (using option 6 of the Toolkit). I want to root my phone but I have some doubts when launching its option 3, that are:
1) It says to choose one of the zip files from SU folder. There are three zip files in there. Assuming that my phone is already running ICS 4.0.4, I think that I can choose the SU313-BIN311_4ICS.zip, is that correct?
2) The procedure to put the phone on NVFlash says to press and hold both Vol- and Vol+ while plugging the micro-uSB into the phone. But until when? I mean, is it required to keep pressing both buttons during the hole process? The instructions is not very clear at this point...
3) It also says that the procedure will detect the current partition layout and ask you to choose a compatible recovery image. I don't have any idea what's talking about... What should be my choice?
In time: I used the V30A_00.kdz, obtained from the http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=3 site. The firmware is IMM76L.LG-P990-P99030a.1211302332.
Can anyone help me with these questions?
I am not Spyrosk but i have used this amazing tool...
For the option 3, simple way is to hold the buttons until the computer or your laptop recognizes your mobile.after that you can release it...it is the same for any of the procedures mentioned.
For the partition sizes i think it is in the thread and you can search. ICS requires higher partition.....but I'd you are in the ics by smart flashing or by kdz method, you are in the new boot loader and i don't think you need to change the sizes....but I'd you want the old boot loader....then you need to have the bigger partitions....but search inn the thread
Hope this helps you to start

Hi SREEPRAJAY,
Thanks for your reply. In fact you clarified just one of my three questions above. I´ve read the hole thread but didn´t find the answer for my remaining questions... Could someone else help me with this? I don´t want to try procedures on my phone that I´m not confident to do.
Regards,
for the first question...just flash it.as you have flashed the kdz before and on 4.0.4, you have to just flash it.nothing more is required.
and if you are on 4.0.4, then you dont need to re-create the partitions.if flashed with the kdz method, then you are on the new boot loader. to check that...once you flash the SU file in the AIOT.....just enter the recovery by power+volume down key simultaneously...if you see the pink LG logo, then you are on the new one....if on the white LG logo, then you are on the old boot loader.
let me know if there is anything more

Hi SREEPRAJAY,
Sorry, but the more you try to help and explain to me, the more confused I got. I still have doubts. Sorry for that. Let's try again:
1) It says to choose one of the zip files from SU folder. There are three zip files in there. Assuming that my phone is already running ICS 4.0.4, which file must I choose? Can I choose any one? What's the difference between them?
2) Answered OK. Thanks for that.
3) It also says that the procedure will detect the current partition layout and ask you to choose a compatible recovery image. What will I be supposed to choose? What recovery image is the toolkit referring to?
Sorry again, but, as stated on my first post, I'm just an user (not developer) trying to get full control of my phone, and trying to learn more about all those things...
Tks,

For the third, i am using the twrp 2.5 which is the most convenient.cwm is used with volume button keys, but twrp is more convenient with touch interface and also customizable with themes.
I am on my mobile and i am unable to look into more details.sorry for that
I hope you can proceed with this.

Hi SREEPRAJAY,
I have good news! I've just done the procedure to root my LG using the option 3's toolkit, and it ran fantastic! :good: But, I have some suggestions to Spyrosk. The toolkit gives you the choice to select one of the three compatible recovery:
1 - ICS-cwm-5.0.2.8e.img
2 - ICS-cwm-6.0.2.5.img
3 - ICS-twrp-2.4.1.0.img
I chose option 1, at random... I mean, I didn't have any idea at all what were the differences between those three options. Wouldn't be nice if Spyrosk give a little bit explanation about what the toolkit is asking us, I mean, giving a minimal explanation about what are cwm and twrp, and its purposes?
By the way, where I can find and learn more the basics of all this stuff, including cwm and twrp? I mean, I installed this with cross fingers and closed eyes, because I dont have any idea of what I had to choose. That's why I chose at random, option 1. Was it a good choice? I mean, what's the difference between cwm 5.0.2.8e and 6.0.2.5?
In time: now I have my phone running ICS 4.0.4 and ROOTED. I verified using the TitaniumBackup that asked for root access, I gave it, and it ran ok. Now I intend to restore some applications that were previously backup. You don't even need to install SuperOneClick or UnlockRoot to do it. This toolkit is really awesome!
Yessss!
Thanks

Hey, I am trying to revert my HTC desire 510 to stock, i do not have a backup. I found files on the htcdev.com and thought they were Roms (easy catch). Unfortunately they are not. I don't even know what to do with these files in order to get my ROM in place.
My device is a 64bit, was running UK Vodafone rom. i need to get that back on. Need help here...
That up there, old...... I got the solution, thanks to the developers that helped me. Am now posting the links here. Choose which your phone is based on. The link includes different RUU's, not only that of Vodafone.
https://mega.nz/#fm/95YHUAQT
i have been told that the upper link doesnt work, try this...... https://mega.co.nz/#F!3Zo10Zya!-NbM_2RWWecFlc5mH9bLbA
I did not upload anything, so i will not take credit for that job. On the other hand, i will take credit for widely sharing. (Easy Find)
Best way of downloading is having the Mega downloader app on your computer.
Tested and approved for share. I thank all the developers out there. FYI, the RUU's do not exist on the htc.com/uk site. I do not know why. Those of x86 have theres on htc.com/us site.
Hit THanks
ADDITION
The HTC Desire 510 x64 Rom has been debloated, thanx to the developers that have been working on this.

HOW TO INSTALL:
What is changed?
Not much is changed.
Bellow are the app replacements I made:
1. Sense Home ---> NOVA Launcher
2. Sense Messages ---> Google Messages (Material Design)
3. Sense Calculator ---> Xlythe Calculator (Material Design)
4. Sense Calendar ---> Google Calendar (Material Design)
5. Sense Clock ---> Google Clock (Material Design)
6. Sense File Manager ---> ES File Explorer
7. Sense Weather ---> AccuWeather
4. Sense Keyboard ---> Google Keyboard
He removed a lot of HTCs and Google’s useless apps and other things, that are taking up space and resources.
From Google apps you have left:
1. Google Play Store
2. Google Chrome
3. Google Play Games
4. Google Drive
4. YouTube
5. All other background apps and services that are required for the Google apps to function properly.
From HTC apps you have left:
1. Camera app
2. FM Radio
3. Gallery (I couldn't find a decent replacement)
4. Music
5. Photo Editor
6. LockScreen
He removed the HTC Browser, Zoe, E-mail and other useless stuff from HTC.
He has included:
1. Clean Master Lite - It's much faster than the full blown app and gets the job done. Lots of people hate it but it works like a charm on this device.
2. DiskInfo - With this little app you can see all of the partitions on your device. Regardless if you are S-ON or S-OFF.
3. Glim Lite - A set of beautiful Material design icons for NOVA launcher.
He didn't include an E-mail app because the Play Store is full of them and I couldn't choose. This choice is up to you.
How to install it?
First of all you need an unlocked bootloader with a TWRP - custom recovery installed on your device.
To unlock your bootloader go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/desi...e-510-t2910233. Follow that tutorial to get your bootloader unlocked. After a successful unlocking you'll need a custom recovery.
Download this file: https://dl.twrp.me/a11ul/twrp-3.0.2-0-a11ul.img. This is the latest TWRP recovery for our device. Now we need to flash this file on the device:
Before starting put the contents of the ZIP file on to your SD card. And make sure that it has this folder structure:
Code:
--SD CARD
--TWRP
--BACKUPS
--Your device serial number (The name of this folder should be the serial number of your device otherwise TWRP won't see the backups in this folder)
--2016-04-17--13-49-21_KTU84L_release-keys (Don't change this, I don't know what will happen if you do)
All you do is replace the downloaded backup with your backup, 1st delete your files..... DO NOT REPLACE THE FOLDERS, ONLY THE FILES IN THE LAST FOLDER
1. Power off your device by pulling the battery out and putting it in again.
2. Press the Volume Down and Power Buttons until you see the HBOOT screen.
3. Press the Power button again to enter Fastboot mode.
4. Connect your phone with your PC using an USB cable.
5. Now open your terminal (I'm using Ubuntu but it's same in Windows as well) and type:
Code:
fastboot devices
This will show you an output like this:
Code:
--your devices serial number-- fastboot
If it doesn't show you an output like that then you probably didn't install the drivers correctly or you have a faulty USB cable.
If your output is the same as above than we can move on.
This command will flash the TWRP recovery on your device:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /full/path/to/the/recovery.img
Example:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /home/denny/Downloads/twrp-3.0.2-0-a11ul.img
Now you have TWRP on your device.
To boot TWRP press the Power button to go back to the HBOOT screen and navigate to the RECOVERY option with the volume keys and again press the Power button. After a few seconds you'll see your new recovery.
Restoring the backup
First we need to wipe any potential data that will cause conflicts with the new system.
1. Tap on "Wipe"
2. Tap on "Advanced Wipe"
3. Select all but leave the Micro SDCard option unchecked.
4. Swipe the slider to wipe the data.
After that is complete press on the house button on the lower end of the screen.
Now we are going to restore the backup:
1. Tap on the "Restore" button.
2. At the lower left corner tap on "Select Storage" button.
3. Choose "Micro SDCard" option and press OK.
4. Now you should see the backup folder. Open it.
5. Select "Boot" and "System" and swipe to start the restoring process.
6. Press "Reboot System" after the restoring has finished.
After you setup you system, remove the battery again, launch in to recovery and flash this boot.img

Hey Zubagy. I have been searching for an RUU for vodaphone for ages!! Is this the stock?
Could you advice me on how to apply this after after rooting my device. Will this lock my carrier again. I am actually on a different carrier, but they can't detect tethering because I bought the phone from vodaphone.

Any time, yes... the version is 1.51.161.10. It doesnt lock the operator, your phone is just based on the Vodaphone make but you are able to use any operator. Iam in Uganda and i use the phone for Airtel. The Vodaphone part of it all is to jst show who the makers or promoters are in this case. But all that is Bloatware. I have updated my Blog and added the necessary links that you are intrested in, and how to install. (Debloated rom)
in this case am assuming you have x64 based HTC.
Sorry for the delay in the response this time, I went offline yesterday.
That rom is a '.exe'. this means you will have to ran it on ur windows computer and all u do, is insert the phone when you are asked to, and let the computer do the rest.
If you need further help, dont hesitate....especially when it comes to flashing the fdebloated version, the developer of that version is not replying, dont know why

Many thanks, you have been very helpful,
So all I have to do is download the Vofaphone ROM and run it on my computer after my phone is rooted? Do I need to make sure that boot loader is locked and any other precautions I should take? I wish to unroot the phone afterwards and leave it as the vodaphone version.

No, no need for relocking the boot loader, just go a head and insert your phone as it will tell you too Just make sure you have battery of around 50%+.
your wish will come through to unroot the phone, but trust me.....it is boring. the debloated rom is far much better when it comes to performance. the phone is actually smoother and you get space for other applications. What i did with my phone, i installed the debloated, added a memory card of 8gb, partitioned it so that i can push some apps to the phone..... but hey, anytym......You need more help..... dont hesitate.....will be right here.
hit thanx if this helped

Hi Zubaggy, I have just two more questions.
After I have opened the .exe file and installed the Vodaphone ROM on my phone, do I need to also install the 1.51.161.10 Kernel from the HTCdev website, or does the ROM have that inside it.?
Thanks

I am getting error 155 when I try and install the ROM?

I have tried installing several times (vodaphone UK 1.51.161.7) and at first it gave me error 115 and then the next 3 times was stuck on 0/7 install for 30 minutes. I have rooted using dips root method but this ROM doesn't work. Can you help me?

When you are flashing a RUU, you need to unroot the phone, install the stock recovery and relock the bootloader before you start the install process. The errors above tell you that you haven't done something from the things I mentioned.

When you run the RUU the installer expects the phone to be in original shape. That is way it gives our errors when it detects a custom kernel or a custom recovery.
This is the stock kernel:
https://mega.nz/#!LQIDQZzK!pdmMgPrh5clCYWuyAczfzyIhKBFDyysYWAOLRhx0pZM
This is the stock recovery:
https://mega.nz/#!uMQ0ETpB!5YLSOjAHGfDMCrDHIN3smSTjPI35LcD1wSJf4BZ6Luc
Flash them using fastboot and after that relock the bootloader and try the RUU again.
If you have any questions please ask.
EDIT: You can relock the boot loader using the command: fastboot oem lock

Thanks Danny for your fast responses I have been responding to you in my thread but would like to keep it here.
Philz touch is installed on my system and I don't know how to remove it.
Which should I flash first the stock kernel or recovery.
Surely I can't use recovery while I have one already, what if I install the stock recovery and then I haven't got a back up file.
What commands do I need to enter in CMD to flash those files.
Thanks.
