Hi,
I've successfully re-mapped the PTT button by following the instructions from this forum. I imagine the same procedure would apply to the small OK button immediately below the jog-wheel, but I don't know where to start. Of course, the button is not present in the Settings/Buttons applet - that would have been too easy.
First, how to disassociate it from its present function (Start Menu/OK)? And once disassociated, what is the button code to enter in the registry?
I tried aebplus, and it sort of works - but the start menu still comes up on the first keypress if invoked in the Today screen.
Any ideas on how to re-map this otherwise useless key?
Thanks,
Mike.

You sound like a jerk for posting that I did not search when the reply prior to mine was 6 months ago.
Did you even read the thread? None of the links you posted had instructions/advice on how to remap the side "ok" button.

the 4th link does have some good information, lemme just quote from it

The side "ok" button is a tough one because it has multiple functions. In programs, explorer windows, and settings it acts as an OK button but when you're at the today screen it acts as a Start Menu button. I kinda get the feeling we're not going to be able to change this for a while. Not until someone releases a keymapper specifically for the Kaiser.

It's really easy with help of AE Button Plus.
You can pretty much map any hardware key on your device with this great app.
I have it setup to be able to copy and paste by using the sliding keyboard and pressing Window Key + C to copy and Window Key + V to paste among other cool shortcuts.
Cheers!

Thanks Rayan. I downloaded the AE Button Plus program for my AT&T Tilt, and it is working fantastic for remapping buttons. I was able to remap the side OK button to lock my phone by holding it for a few seconds. I love the way it also lets you leave the button with its default setting for one press, but create other actions for multiple presses.
By the way, the phone locking works fantastic. It allows me to answer calls, but doesn't activate any of the other phone functions until I unlock the phone. That's perfect for carrying the phone in my pocket. Also, incoming notifications don't unlock the phone, so that I won't accidentally turn-on a bunch of applications while the phone is in my pocket. The unlocking action is very simple.
I've also mapped volume up and down to a long press of the soft keys. That alleviates the need to use the stylus to select the volume button. Great.
The AE Button Plus program was what I've needed all along to customize my phone. It would've saved me a lot of time.
One other note, I downloaded the 2.6.3 version of the program, rather than the freeware version, but I haven't gotten any info on the cost. I may be disappointed in the near future if this program automatically deactivates. Do you know if I should expect a disappointment? I would pay for this program, but I'm not sure how much it's worth to me, but I saw no information on the cost. Do you know?
AFAIK there is only one version, if you want the registered version you buy a license and there's a procedure to activate it, otherwise it uses the free version with a couple features disabled and a nagscreen once in a while.
I've seen people talk about remapping most of the other keys, but not these. Since I'm now on WM Pro, I've found I don't use these buttons at all... I always just use the touchscreen. Since we're always hurting for hard keys, any way to remap these to something useful?
Registry edits to change soft keys applications:
Change the program opened by the Left soft key: (I've shown the current setting):
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (include the quotes)
To change the title of the Left soft key: (again, current setting shown):
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\ = Calendar (no quotes)
The right soft key is the same pattern except the key number is 113 and it may not exist - you may have to create it.
I installed the following cab and it worked great. Once installed you can change the soft keys from Start-->Settings-->Personal-->Soft Key

Thanks... I was just coming back to post that I ended up installing AE Button Plus to handle this. I would have been completely happy with the solution you posted, so thanks! But I've spent the past hour finding all kinds of handy thing to assign with the single, double, triple, and press hold options.
is there a plugin that will display the programs in the program folder as a list?
(sorry, posted in the wrong place. ignore!)
I suffer from fat finger disorder as well and usually hit send too fast.
Which version of AEBplus do you need? Can it be done with the freeware version?
Yes, the freeware version works... just has a nag screen when you boot the phone.
The free version (1.01) doesnt have settings for the soft keys....
I guess you have to buy it
I'm sorry, I'm using the "trial" version. But I've not seen anything about it being a time limited trial, only that it has the nag screen and lacks the Action list:
What is the difference between trial and registered version?
Two things only:
Splash screen appears during device starting up.
"Action list" is blocked in trial mode

Hi, I'm using Toshiba G900 with WM6 and I have the folder
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\ but it is empty. What kind of register should I create - "String Value", "MultiString Value", "DWORD Value" or "Binary Value". What the name of the register should be? Is there other regs that must be created to do the job? Thank you in advance!

OK well this forum is for the HTC Tytn 2, AKA Kaiser, AKA Tilt (not tilt 2)..
I was curious if there is an app that will, upon pressing and holding a key such as the PTT key or end key, would subsequently end all running tasks, lock the phone, and put it in standby.
If there is such an app would anyone care to enlighten me? If not, I think there may be a market for such a thing. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before and I'm sure I'll do it again soon.
I tried searching xda with google and the xda search and didn't get lucky. Sorry otherwise.
I must confess that would be very useful. Not being a programmer i don't know if its possible or not. Any ideas anyone??
I have not come across such a function and all I have been looking for is a utility that will allow another button to put my tilt into standby (I find it a little difficult feeling the power button w/o looking)!
perhaps we should ask WAKU (creator of wktask) to see if he can import that excellent software into buttons. He has all functions available thru wktask such as closeall/suspend and he can add lock easily. he hasn't updated as frequently anymore perhaps more people should donate
Ill email him, to see if hes willing to do it!
I, too, have asked about this type of functionality. I'd love to hit the power button or the PTT button and have it close all apps (except for those in an exception list) and put the phone in standby.
The last time I asked about this the best reply was someone suggesting that perhaps a mortscript could be written to do it. I never looked further into it.
its possible, but i have never maked programs for ppc =/.. if someone has an idea, or if it is like c/c++ i can..
I use the excellent and free AE Button Plus.
I have a triple press of the ok button place the phone in standby.
(I have a double press of the ok button launch S2U2 to lock the phone and turn off the display but leave the GPS running)
pjam
Its definitely possible. All the individual components have already been done: You can remap the PTT button, , some 3rd party task managers have "end all" features, and software like S2U2 can easily lock your phone. Perhaps you could rig some sort of script to run them all, or find someone to program up a less jerry-rigged version. I don't think that the app would be all that popular, maybe the script is the best way to go.
I am fairly certain I can do this with an action sender & using one of the keyboard driver shortcuts (Short_Power.lnk). I will have a go at compiling a small actions send proggie & seeing if I can compile the kill arguments into it. I can definitely get you into suspend or stand-by, it's the killing of everything else that getting me. So far I can't get both functions into the same key press.

The latest wKTask is pretty recent...as of 1/9/2008. here is the link:
http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html
Software solution for a hardware problem!
Very often when i press softkey or any d-pad key once, it is interpreted as multiple key press. Other users also reported that problem. I even send my device to repair center in UK, but they repaired everything except that. That is VERY VERY annoying! Sometimes i can't unlock the keyboard because of that.
So to solve the problem, i created an application (without UI) that will not allow pressing any of those keys more than once in period of 200ms (without timer, so your battery will not suffer). You can change that value through configuration file and also the keys that you want to monitor (comma-separated). I tested the application for a day, and it works perfectly!
112 - left soft key
113 - right soft key
37 - left
38 - up
39 - right
40 - down
13 - enter
Suddenly i feel free!
After install, shortcut will be created in \Windows\Startup folder so that it is started every time you restart your device.
When you install the application you will have to start it manually or restart device.
Device becomes usable again if you ignore low memory problem
.NET Compact Framework 3.5 is required!
Enjoy!
Good work and a very usefull app, mine thankfully does not double tap too often but I might give this a whirl.
Thanks for the work!
Seems to work great, thanks a lot
I'm glad you find it useful.
I get the following message when trying to run the htckeyboardfix.exe:
Error:
An unexpected error has occured in HTCKeyboardFix.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
This application requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.
I have a HTC S730 with WM 6.0 (original), phone is just new and no updates available... Did you install a newer version of .NET framwork? (don't know how to find out my version of .NET, OS version is = 5.2.1622 build 18128.0.4.4)
Same problem as bmwheaven here. Are you using a cooked rom?
You need to install .NET Compact Framework 3.5.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Installed the framework and the software, but for me it's not really a solution:
The delay of 200ms is way too much; can't even scroll through the menu's normally.
Tried alot of different delays, but nothing; I want to be able to write fast with the qwerty-keyboard, and only a delay of <50ms would help. But then the device responds twice to keypresses again...
Thanks for trying though, certainly a good try, but quite not good enough.
hi - i wont to test this on my MTeoR, install Framwork 3.5, and now i get this Message:
failed acquiring of the hook

I agree that 200ms is too much if you want to scroll through the menu by fast pressing D-pad buttons, because main purpose of this application is to prevent that. What you can do is press and hold d-pad buttons and when you are close to where you want to be you can use slower multipress way to get right where you want.
Personally, to me this is an excellent solution, scrolling through the menus are not problem at all for me.
I am not sure what you mean when you say "I want to be able to write fast with the qwerty-keyboard". Why can't you? I mean, this application does not affect any other keys except soft keys and d-pad keys.

Ah, maybe I'm doing something wrong then.
Because I also tested this with sending text-messages, and it really skipped a lot of keypresses.
Did I have to change values in the config file myself; does the program respond to all keys if I don't edit the config-file or did you already put the d-pad and softkey configuration in there?

If you don't change the config file, then program will monitor only d-pad and softkeys. Behavior of any other key is the same with or without the application.
Contact HTC Support
HTC Customer support is not aware of this problem. They urge us all to report the issue with the keys, so it can be escalated to HTC development for a fix.

Hallo
My HTC has the same keyboard problem, and Italian support (sigh!) told me to send to repair....
Tested amaric's software : at the moment works great.
Thank you!!!! You delayed the moment in which I will throw the S730 out of the window!!
tested since 26th august: PERFECT
thank you Amaric: I had the intention to change the phone, but with this application it can be decently used
I am really happy that I could help you guys!
I would also like to say that I sold my s730 and bought s740 because of low memory (I just can't create software to solve that problem ). Although I don't recommend HTC devices easily I must say that s740 is everything that I thought s730 will be. I am very happy with it. Almost no problems at all
I also get "failed acquiring of the hook" on my unlocked S730.
Anyone figured it out?
Look for a software called "hook manager" - install it and it should work.

is there a way that i can see the uptime of my Tytn2?
it looks like my tytn2 is (soft)resetting itself.
i had a few times now that i had to enter my PIN again. So when it happens again i want to look at the uptime.
Does anybody know if this is possible, ether by installing software or by default in Windows Mobile(6.1).
after some more searching i desided to look for a program to display uptime, pitty that windows mobile doesnt have it itself.
I tried 2 programms now, but they both are not giving the correct time after some time.
Till now i tried uptime meter and myuptime.
If anybody knows one that works correct with WM6.1!?
I used this for a long time: http://ae.inc.ru/uptime.php
AEBplus also has a "status" screen that will display it: http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php

I'll check this out too, I'm always curious how long the phone has been up myself. No negative effects from this program I assume?
I wrote a MortScript to record bootup time at startup, but never got around to writing something to then compare current time to the last recorded time to get uptime.

Never seen any... I've been using the Uptime plugin since my Wizard days about 3 years ago. Now that I use AEBPlus for my hardware key shortcuts I removed the plugin as it was redundant.
I find the "uptime since last full charge" even more interesting... and it has helped me troubleshoot problems with programs running in the background several times. Look at uptime, put phone in standby, wait 5mins, turn on and check again - uptime should not have changed, or at least a lot less. If it has, some program is preventing the phone from standing by...
At some point I found out S2U2 would cause the phone to log about 2 hours of uptime overnight, at least I could understand why my battery life had gone down and got rid of it...

Never used AEBPlus, does that allow you to "pop up" Today plugins at the press of a key? I discovered when I tried to install the program today, it doesn't show up in SPB Pocket Plus, and I have no room on my today screen outside of it. I could maybe do SecondToday, but that seems like a lot for this.. Oh well.

AEBPlus runs as a program in the background with program setup in start menu\programs, the program allows you to allocate up to 4 programs and functions like up time, backlight etc to hardware buttons, so you can map any program in start menu.
Just an eg as i have set:
Hardware key
Start:
single press: start menu
double press: Total Commander
tripple press: Task Manager
Longpress: Backlight
Internet:
Opera Mini
Opera Mobile
Skyfire
Uptime
Messaging:
Messaging
Mobilepad
galarm
Touch Calendar
OK:
Ok/Close
Wi-Fi
BT on long
PTT:
Taskfacade
Nodata
Sat Nav on long
So i hardly ever have to go anywhere near the Start\Programs group as anything else like Media is Start Menu.
All in all makes phone very user friendly

wth, HOW did I miss this program. I used to do exactly this in PalmOS, I think I could triple-load each key, but this you can do four actions per key. Now my problem will be forgetting which is which!
And what's funny is after I got finished setting all the overloaded applications on the buttons, I then realized "oh, this was to get uptime, where is that?" and finally added it to a button too.
Thanks!

Glad you like & got it tweaked, makes me wonder why M$ doesn't make things user friendly in the first place? "we all know the answer to that"
Know what you mean about forgetting, everything has become second nature to me now "mind u found it a test of mem writing it down"
Oh yeah in the install directory is a .cfg file back it up somewhere so if you ever flash again or have to hard-reset you don't have to set everything up again
Read first
little advice for those of you, like me, who like to download and install before reading. do not install the free version of aebplus on your kaiser, program won't work, and you will have to do hard reset to bring back some of your hardware buttons.
You need to use the current version (2.6.6), and simply leave it unregistered. I don't really know why he leaves that 4-year old 1.0.1 version available.
excellent, it works great, thanks.
AE Button Plus is nice, but it just causes problems for me. It's entirely possible that it's a combination of the other programs installed, but I'm having a few issues
Sometimes buttons are being completely ignored, or very slow to respond.
StyleTap doesn't receive remapped button presses at all
Scrolling with the volume button seems to randomly lock up the PPC requiring me to pull the battery (soft reset won't do)
Soft resets in general are very finicky, having to do them multiple times for the phone to finish booting
All of which went away after I uninstalled. Oh well... Maybe there's some alternative program. For now, I'm back to using the Buttons function in SPB Plus which allows me to add "Hold" to each button.

Strange i imagine it is something else that is affecting AEButton Plus, i'm running M2D the only issue did have was with regards to OK button, wanted to map long press to Wi-fi and double to BT for convienience, but found that Wi-Fi would be very much a pop shot on load but double press and all fine.
(nothing against aebuttonplus here.. but u do have to register it, and its meant to handle button assignments) lets bring this thread back on topic shall we. showing device uptime.
