There was already a similiar thread but got messed up with ppl contributing senseless ideas like wearing sunglasses etc.
So please stay ontopic.
My concern is that i want to dim the screen much more than it's possible in the settings. If you've got a hero rom it can be set much lower.
We have all rooted phones, so does anybody know how to get the screen darker?
Is it a kernelhack or what?
i would like to stay with android 1.6, so no hero rom. pays 1.1 is fast and has no ram hack so any ideas?
kind regards
lol
btw: the battery also lasts a lot longer if its even darker than normal
have to asnwer my own post, but has nobody any ideas? would help a lot. somebody who knows sth about hacking, like hmm a DEV please

I have a few issues with my Tilt that maybe some of you could help me with. have flashed more ROMS than I can count. The problem that I am running in to is that 1. I can't find one that really works for me and 2. I can't seem to get my camera back. Let me elaborate on that. I have the camera, it works normally, but there is no zoom anymore. I went back to the straight HTC camera file, but there's no zoom in there. When I first purchased this phone from AT&T, it zoomed in and out, even when I would take a picture in low light conditions, I was getting excellent FPS. Now I installed the "official" HTC camera on here, and there's no zoom, and the low light FPS went straight to crap, maybe .5 to 1.5 if I am really lucky.
Ok, now back to the ROMS. I am having trouble finding a ROM that works good, doesn't lock, and doesn't eat my batteries like a fat kid eats Twinkies. I have tried almost every one of the DuttyThroy ROMS, Death something, Diamond Builds, you name it. I think I have tried just about every one on this website. I have tried almost every single one of the "lite" versions that everyone has put out, and still the same thing on battery life. I have also tried MULTIPLE different radios with different ROMS, and still, the same thing. Prior to purchasing the Tilt, I had a Blackjack. I loved it, I had installed a ROM on it from someone called Ali or Dr_Ali or something like that. Basically it was a VERY slight cook of WM6.1 that was pretty well pulled off of the BJ 2 and cooked for the BJ 1. I guess I would love to find something like that for the Tilt, but I haven't seen anything like it on this site. Anyone have any suggestions? Or perhaps what ROMS works good for you?
Sorry for rambling on. Thank you all for your help!!
On your camera, do you have it set to max resolution? If so, the zoom feature will disable.
As far as battery life? Well, I don't think there is a rom that's going to help. (but I'm no rom expert) The Tilt has proven to be a battery hog, and if your in a 3G area even more so. I think the chip set and proccessor speed has more to to with it than anything. I wish there was a clock speed utility that works on the Samsung proccessor so I can turn the speed down and see if that helps.
Yeah, I really wish I could find a proggie for stepping down the processor like I had with my BJ 1.... And yeah, I didn't even notice that with my camera (I feel like a retard now...)

Yea, I hate it when that happens. However, speaking from experience, ya get use to it after a while.
battery usage can vary between both rom and radio. the roms i've noticed with outstanding battery life are dutty and l26. Then you get into radios to go along with these roms. the chefs usually pick the radio set for you to use...so read read read...and flash safely.
I was curious if themes had an effect on the phones performance. Like speed or battery life. I have noticed my battery draining rather fast.
well.......................
If you ever worked on a car, the more you pretty it up with suff like bodykits, big wings that scream point me to the airport and stuff of the like, the car has to work harder and uses more gas. Same rules apply
Hopefully that answers your ? In a round about way
Thank you, come again
Yea but it looks Badass getting there!
I agree, cars except the stupid wing and themes look badass but I am all about performance, which themes and bodykits take away from
I agree i have noticed that themes did slow down my g1 drain more battery and general giving a few more fc. Although it does make the ui look great. Maybe someone should test to see if there really is a diffrence and not a placebo effect
i agree with you pistol but you are asking the phone to do more so the normal way would be that it would drain more battery and slowit down a little bit
I have gone like you and am now running themeless
Most themes don't do much besides change system images. The images are only replaced so it's not too much different than stock. As long as the images are optimized, it shouldn't have much affect. If there are mods in the theme itself, that's where things can get weird. Besides a few FC's sometimes, themes have minimal affect on performance from what I can tell.
Well someone shpuld at least try and see if there is a diffrence with a theme. Its worth a shot we maybe surprised woth the results. I wish I could I dnt have the time unfourtantly.

I agree.
I'd like to know for sure what the differences are with/without a theme.
I don't know the first thing about benchmarking a phone so I'm gonna leave this one up to someone else.
honestly the reasons your bats are draining are because PROBABLY your doing things that will drain it
ie going on xda via the phone browser, using any apps for a period of time, taking pictures, you get what im saying? i havent had any battery issuses when using themes. maybe you are all a little paranoid?
I just might be, wait what was that, oh just my shadow
So, I'm not a complete noob, been flashing roms since around February.
I do however have a noob-ish question, that I've put off asking for awhile now, in hopes that I would find an answer first!
I absolutely adore Cezar's roms (I wonder if he's single... oh wait, wrong forum) and I like Serendipity VII as well.... but neither seem to have the battery life that GR-12 does on my phone. (definitely more than 18-20 hrs)
So, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions and or first hand on this? I want to rock Continuum, but battery life is important for me... sometimes at work without the opportunity to charge.
I like GR-12 also, don't get me wrong... but the newer stuff comes with bells n whistles.... and yet, that damned battery gets in the way!
Thanks!

Wrong forum????
there are little things you can do to help save battery life and also apps in the market to aid with this sort of thing. I don' think your gonna be able to have the rom of your choice with the battery life of your choice .. how sweet that would be though.
Some kernels allow for UV and that will save you a little battery.. also make sure you don't have a lot of apps running at once.. or you status bar only has icon's up there that need to be.
Thanks Corey!!!
But, where should I start?
Is it really necessery to flash a custom ROM, or is this phone snappy enough with Sense (but I'll probably use GoLauncher or LauncherPro, I only use 1 homescreen...)?
Which tweaks are really necessery to make the phone's battery survive for more than 24 hours, when texting pretty much?
Perhaps the phone's battery survives even though I text a lot (between 100-500 texts/day, depending on how bored I am)?
How's the vibrator in this phone, can I have it in silent mode and have it in my pocket and actually notice when I get a text?
My current phone's vibrator is pretty crappy.
I've been browsing this forum for some time now but haven't found anything that answers my questions... I come from an Acer Liquid A1, without CM7 or MIUI that phone is probably one of the worst phones ever done. But, I sure hope this community is just as active as the one the Liquid had, and still have
(lol, "is this a question?" eh, it's many questions... )
oh, and one more thing; is this device brickable? or can you always reset it to default, like with the liquid? if something f...s up you can always boot into bootloader and reflash a *.bin
Help a newbie to get started, and flashing things and stuff is nothing new. Only the way to root it is new for me... :/
Regards,
Me
(hopefully I haven't missed a thread that answers all my questions, but of what I've found I haven't found anything that actually helps me. if I've missed it, just link to it and remove this thread )

I don't think you need a custom ROM. See if the battery is good enough for your needs. Remember to drain the battery completely multiple times to "train" it.
On another note, why get such an expensive phone, just for texting? It's going to drain a lot of battery while you are looking at the screen. Might as well go for a feature phone imo.
You should easily get 24 + hours if all you do is text mainly. Just remember to turn data off. It will help make your battery last longer.

Well, my current phone dies pretty quickly when texting a lot. Today it went from 60% down to 5%, and I woke for 11hours ago and have been texting ppl since then.
And I'm buying a new phone since my 4 touch-buttons on this one is getting really weird, they only work sometimes and yesterday they all died so I was stuck in a conversation and had to reboot to get out of it.
And sending texts and stuff is what I mainly do, of course I browse the Internet, play games and everything. During school and such I only text people, and a lot. So I pretty much needs the phone to make more than 24hours without charging it, even though I text a lot and listen to music.
@NardVa;
Won't be a problem. Already thought of that
Thanks for the replies

I was going to suggest flashing, the stock rom is garbage for battery life. Android Revolution HD seems to be one of the more popular choices, but of course Cyanogen Mod is there if you decide the Sense UI isn't your thing

I've made up my mind now, I'll use the official GB ROM for a couple of days/weeks/months (basically untill I'm tired of Sense 2.1) and then flash a Sense 3.0 ROM and hopefully I can understand which one of all those RUU's that's made for Europe too when I'm bored of Sense 2.1
You don't happen to know how it is with bricking this phone? Can you always reset it to stock, or can you actually brick it for real so it's 100% unusable?
Really like how it look of CM Mods but the only and most important thing is that I can't adjust White Balance in it. I really don't think it's a very hard part patch to CM Mods, but why is nobody doing this..? I kept on searching and asking but I don't seem to get any feedback... Don't know why there's only few people talking about this. It really means a lot to me, and I'd really like to find a way to solve it. The lack of White Balance function is the only thing that's keeping me away from CM Mods even I love them so much...
Does anyone know how to add this function to the mods or if there's any other way around..? Kindly let me know.. I've been so tired of dealing with this. Thanks in advance!
