WiFi Issues - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I am having an issue with my Sprint Touch Diamond. When I first got the phone I turned the WiFi on and connected to the internet a few times and everything seemed fine. After having it for a few days the phone would no longer turn on the WiFi connection. Phone, data, Blue tooth, and beam all turn on....any ideas what would be causing this issue?

if it can turn on wifi but just not connect to your router
I would suggest trying to pull the plug on your router for 10sec and try again
and maybe upgrade the firmware of the router it's a problem many people get

I cannot turn the wifi on....

This may seem overly simplistic, but have you tried to soft-reset your phone?

I've tried soft and hard resets as well as different ROM's....I did some searching yesterday before I posted....and the most outrageous all of the suggested methods worked...well temporarily. It said if you pull the battery and put the phone in the fridge (as dumb as it sounds) after a few minutes the WiFi will work....and it did....but once again after awhile I could no longer turn it on....so I'm back to my problem....

sounds like a hardware defect
the whole fridge trick is also being said to revive dead harddisks
for a short while

Got to the bottom of Wifi problems... Yep, Definitely

Guys,
I don't know if this is actually a cure yet, but it seems to have worked on my first attempt.
First the background...
When I first got my Kaiser (UK Orange Tytn II) I was at work, I quickly enabled the wifi and all was well. When I got back home later that day I really struggled to get a connection to my access point at home. I connect to a Cisco aironet in both locations (I know there is a post about cisco extensions but I know that is not my problem as I can and have connected to both APs on at least one occasion with no problem).
After deleting wireless settings and a few soft resets I was able to connect at home. I managed to use that wifi connection all night without a problem. Getting back into the office the next day resulted in the same problems connecting to the office access point.
The AP is visible and is 'Available' but doesn't connect automatically. I tried to establish the connection manually, the phone shows the AP as 'Connecting' but shortly after goes back to 'Available'.
I've tried flashing different roms and radios but to no avail.
Last night I got to thinking that I generally connect to my AP, browse the web, sync mail etc, but I don't switch off the wifi when I am finished. I just let the phone go into standby as that shuts the wifi off anyway. So to try something different last night, I disabled wifi once I had finished.
This morning, when I got into the office, I enabled wifi and for the first time it connected immediately and I'm browsing on it just fine. This leads me to believe that there is a problem when the wifi is enabled and the phone is is standby mode for a considerable length of time and then is woken up in a totally different location.
I'll test again tonight by disabling the wifi before I leave the office and hopefully I'll get an instant connection when I get home.
Any thoughts?
I get the same thing for work and cannt connect even though it says available, and then connected.
Tried your approach but didnt work for me.

Of course that might be due to any number of factors. Have you ever been able to connect at your office?
i've had issues with my orange (uk) tytnII actually wanting to make a GPRS connection whilst connected to WiFi when i try and go online.
I connect at work using a program called Odyssey and eventually got that working yesterday, but had to turn off most other connectivity before it'd actually use the WiFi.
then I was at a pub later on with a free wifi hot spot, but that wouldn't connect despite it being 'available'
YAY!
Well...
I retested my theory. Disabled the wireless before I left the office. Got home, enabled it and I connected with no issues.
So there is a problem with having the wifi on when the phone goes into standby and it then waking up in a totally different location.
I wonder if WM6.1 addresses this. I hope so because although I have a work around, its still a pain in the a$$
I had similar problems on my Wizard... never had anything like that on my Kaiser.

Thanks, I might give that a go when I get a chance.
My problem is similiar. If I connect to a certain access point, it will stop working after a minute or so and then not be able connect to that access point or any other one, they are just listed as available. Strange...
Firstly set your wifi power to max.
Secondly, my orange Tytn2 (now dutty v3'd) has never had that problem.
I leave navizon on a lot of the time and thus enter and leave wifi zones frequently with wifi on and my device connects fine to the regular ones I use.
Wi-fi connection
Hi unwired,
I've been surfing this site, but unable to find an answer yet, a newbie that I am. Is there a way to define one network as default? Anytime I want to connect, I have to do it manually, and define settins, rather than just switch it on, connect automatically and fire away. This is how it works on my laptop, or I have to high expectations from the Kaiser?
Thanks in advance.

This is nothing to do with power settings, or at least not for me or several other people I have spoken to. Its generally not a problem when the wifi is on, its after the device has gone into suspend.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that if I set the reg hack so the wifi is always on I wont have this problem but I can't deal with the battery drain.
Just this morning I was connected to my office wifi, went for lunch without switching off the wifi first and when I got back I was longer able to connect to the same access point.
I then deleted the settings for the access point, soft reset and I'm connected again (even if I switch to low power).
To say that this pi$$es me off is an understatement, what kind of wireless device cant handle waking up in a different location to the one it went to sleep in!?

I have had similar problems. I get disco'ed from my AP at home and it won't let me re-connect. Jut keeps asking for the WPA2 key.
I use the same remedy as you. Turn off Wifi Before walking out of range. No amount of Softreset's fix it for me.
Although, some ROM's work better than others. ie Alex's WM6 ROM would not connect at all, the ROM / Radio in my sig are perfect so far.
P.S. This might also be tied to my router, cause a router reset fixes it for me. But i doubt work will let you try that

Yeah I'm really hoping that this is fixed in WM6.1 which, if your experience is anything to go by, might well be the case. I really wanted to wait for the official 6.1, but I feel a flash of Duttys 6.1 coming on real soon.

TYTN II WiFI would not activate

Friends,
I've been proud of my TYTN II for the last thre months that I've owned it... until recently though.
Last week, my WiFi connection stopped getting activated/swichted on. Howsoever, I may try, it would not get activated, leave alone discover the network.
I tried re-flashing it, soft-resetting, hard-resetting, I mean practically everything I could, but to no avail.
Has anyone faced this problem before, and found a solution to the same. Would appreciate if you could share the same with me. I really do not want to take it for servicing, as I fear it would take me easily a week to get it back if I take it to the Workshop.
Thanks in advance,
Atul
Let me ask a couple of questions.
Can you turn wifi on or do you get an error?
If wifi turns on does it see any access points?
have you flashed your rom on your phone?
have you tried another access point for wifi?
do you have any wifi applications installed like wififofum?
Hi Chumley,
thanks for the prompt response...
I do not get any error, not even any message hen I try to activate the WiFi. Just that the rainbow circle keeps rotating (hour-glass equivalent of indows), and then shows the WiFi is still inactive (small x near the WiFi icon).
I tried re-flashig with the latest ROM available on the HTC website, but to no avail.
Trying another access point does not help either, neither would it, I guess, since its not a problem of signal strength, as much as it seems to be of the Wireless on the Kaiser not getting activated.
No 3rd party applications installed either, after the last re-flashing, still no luck.
Anything from the above, that rings a bell?
If it does it after a flash I would think you have a defective wireless adapater. Sorry.
Guess it should not be a problem as mine is still under warranty... just abt. 3 months old. But my only worry is, as I mentioned in the original post, the time it would tk. to get it fixed by the Service Centre, or if at all it is a correctible problem... I think time to ask for a favour from a friend... a standby mobile while I await mine back
If you let it go free and it comes back, then it's yours forever.
Hello, same problem here:
two days ago my wifi connection stopped suddenly and cannot activate it from the comm manager. When I click in the WIFI Icon, rainbow circle keeps rotating and PDA perfomance goes down.
any ideas :?
Hueznar,
I've already given mine for repair at Service Centre two days back, and am still awaiting it back.
Shall let you know how it goes once I get it back

I don't know why...really.
The comm manager stays on good, but when I try an access point it starts with the Connecting... then after a few seconds it stops and goes Unavailable.
My router works good with my bros and sis MAC books.
So I have no idea why.
Can anyone help?

yeah ssid is the id for the wireless network
i'm not sure why it worked for me... should'nt have made a difference.
have you tried different wireless channels on the router?
increase the power output?
sorry man i don't really know enough about it but happy to try.. pm me if i can answer your question i will

Wifi access point problem
I had a problem where suddenly after months of use with my home wifi router, it suddenly would not connect with the router anymore. Would show that it was trying to connect, and then would suddenly not connect and try another router on the list.
I tried reseting and everything. Tried re-entering the password for my router as I thought that was the problem. finally the only fix i found to work was to actually delete the access point from the phone... then reset and then let it find it all over again from scratch. And miraculously that time it worked.
I know this is not exactly your problem, but hope it helps.

By changing it to channel 1 in my router, it kinda worked..
It says Available now. Nothing else... The connect option it still there button left.
That's my update.
just in case letting you know that I disabled all MEdia net and ISP GPRS so I won't get charged because I'm not paying for my onlince services or any mobile plan with internet.
My brother told me that all WIFI connects directly to internet and it won't matter if I don't have a plan for mobile.
Correct me here, if im wrong.
Thanks.

Extreamly weird WIFI problem

Hello friends,
I have a very strange problem:
My WIFI suddenly stopped working. When I try to set it on in the comunictations section in the settings tab, it shows like it tryes to set it on but it stays off. even when i try to do it through the old winmo interface it cant set it on.
I tryed soft reset and even hard reset it twice.
nothing works.
any ideas?
if it try to connect and fail
the only way to get it working again is to pull the plug from the wifi
router for 10sec and reinsert it
same way with mine and on all handheld devices
my laptops don't seem affected
and if I set the ip gateway and dns manually the handheld can connect fine
so the issue must be with the dhcp in the router
It doesnet works
you dont understnad.
my WIFI device or driver just wont start.
i cant get it to ask for IP so it has nothing to do with DHCP.
it happens everywhere and every net
please help
i tryed to hard reset it again and it didnt help
anyone????
HELP!!!!
Have been talked about earlier.
Had the same problem with my first Diamond and it was replaced cause it was 3 days old.
I have mine for 8 month i think. maybe less.
shall i replace it?
nothing i can do?

[Q] Turning on... Error Turning on... Error WIFI bug

Hello guys,
I have wiped my phone, and tried many, many roms, mostly Darky and Docs roms over the last year, and ALL of them have this wifi bug where sometimes my phone connects to a wifi, and other times I have to restart my phone and only then will it connect.
When it does not connect it says Turning on.... then says Error. I press again, it says Turning on again etc. Occasionally it connects eventually after I try again and again, but usually I have to restart the phone first.
Does anyone know why this is and what to do to fix it. It is very frustrating, especially when in front of an iphone fundementalist.
Help much appreciated!
tx
Mark.
i have this same problem
a fix would be so nice.
try different router.
if you have tried different Rom and kernel then it can't be that.
only your router or phone is bad.
**DamianGTO Steam kernel. 350MB Ram. 500HZ. all ext2. Steam Rom. Js5**
i find this problem is app specific. if i connect before anything is open its fine. if i open a 3rd party browser in edge data mode then switch to wifi while loading a page this error occurs sometimes. tested with 3 different routers and one sgs phone dxjpe modem

AAH I will try that!
It is not the router, I have the issue on every router I have tried. Ive also verified that Static IP and Dynamic makes NO difference at all to this problem.
I'll report back on the flight mode work-around... a lot faster than rebooting, cheers,
Mark.
Anyone know a fix for this bug?
Gad, at times like this I envy my wife's iphone, which JUST WORKS. My SGS has been spared me smashing it to bits out of frustration on several occasions...
I tried the flight mode suggestion, it does not work. The only thing that works is restarting the phone... which takes ages and Launcherpro has to be forced shut then restarted, media scanned etc etc... and only THEN can I try the wifi again, so its not a viable work-around.
Anything else to try ?

Hi
Darkys alternative wifi does not fix the problem. But my problem is not exactly like yours, my phone generally stays connected when it connects, where your connection stops working. Mine only becomes impossible to connect without rebooting sometimes. Occasionally it seems switching from STATIC to DYNAMIC or DYNAMIC to STATIC IP jiggs the phone's wifi somehow, and it then works, but often it just says Turning on... and nada!
Yep, a fix is desperately needed.
Mark
Hello
Having the same problem here. But let's just clarify. At least for me, and from the OP's description, the problem is NOT wifi not being able to connect. It is Wifi NOT TURNING ON at all. Takes a LOONG while with "turning on" and then "error" appears. Sometimes trying over and over again will fix it. Sometimes a full reboot, which as someone stated, is a royal pain.
Get this quite frequently. Doesn't bother me too much because it always works after the second time I turn it on (in the settings not in notifications) when it shows "Error".
Couple of things you could try:
Turn off Notifications under WiFi settings
Turn off Use Wireless Networks under Location & Security settings
My Wifi became a bit stable after this.
You could also try static ip addresses.
Had it happen last night. Went into task manager, killed everything that uses internet and retried it. It turned on immediately. Will test more to see if this is indeed a fix. It's still annoying enough, though.
bump
I have this problem for over 6 months. Any fixes anyone????
Maybe its a harware bug. I may take it into a Samsung Store
This still happens to me too...any fix? Is this hardware or something?
Had this issue when I was using SuperPower App where it takes control of the Wifi sleep. Removed it and never had it again. Any one of you using some sort of battery saver taking control of WIFI?
Same problem here
Same problem here on stock 2.2.1 ROM. Like others already mentioned, my problem is getting the WiFi to turn on. Once it is on, it's problem free, but turning it on sometimes takes minutes to only get an error. Mostly trying again, turns it on quickly. But this afternoon I tried three times without succes. Than, after reading a lot of forum discussions on this problem (we are not alone...), I tried turning off packet data and then WiFi turned on in seconds. This suggests that apps having an internet connection open could cause the problem. It also suggests that icejagans is right by stating to turn the phone into flight mode might resolve the problem. I am not running any battery saver, task killer or whatsoever that could cause this problem. Last Saturday I even did a factory reset to see if that helped, but no, it didn't... Getting really annoyed by this problem and I hope 2.3 will fix it!
Bumb!
Please does anyone have a fix for this? Does flashing a different modem help?
When this happens, I go to Allshare app and enable wireless (when asked), it always works

[Q] Phone will connect to open wifi network but not secure ones

Had my phone for a few months now and recently found that it can't connect to my secure network at home.
When I turn wifi on I get the dreaded connect/disconnect message while it constantly tries to connect to my network. If I leave it on then the battery will drain overnight while the phone tries to connect. I have an iphone which connects to the network no problem. As does my laptop etc
To try to fix this I deleted all my new apps, especially the push ones which give me news updates, etc but this has made no difference.
The weird thing is if I turn off my router's security then the phone will connect and works perfectly fine. I've tried using all the different security settings (even WPS) with new passwords etc and everything seems to setup fine on the phone except it just doesn't want to connect (or more accurately stays connected for a microsecond).
If I go back to an open network it connects immediately and stays connected.
I think this is the root cause of the wifi connection problems that many other people are getting. But I'm at a loss to try to understand why it won't pick up a secure network but works fine otherwise.
My phone is using 2.2.1 and has been rooted
Any thoughts?

Root the problem highly unlikely ..
Secure home network test .
Remove security from Router that is no password .
Remove that connection from phone .
Reboot phone let it pick up router and connect .
If it does then delete reset router password and add in phone .
jje
Thanks for suggested fix. I'll give it a go and let you know if it worked.
Root was a bad choice of word..... I meant that while looking for a solution to my wifi problem I noticed many other people complaining that they can't connect to a wifi network for one reason or another and I was thinking that maybe broken security is a common cause of many wifi connection issues.. In my case there was nothing physical at all to suggest that security was an issue, especially since all my other devices work fine on the same network.
Cheers
Hi, tried your suggestion but I still cant connect. The first time I rebooted the phone it knocked out my internet connection! I've setup a static IP address for my PC and the phone was insisting on trying to connect using the same address and creating a conflict. I fixed that so that's not the issue.
This is what I've tried..
I checked to make sure DHCP was enabled in the router, rebooted everything. No luck.
I tried adding an IP Address Reservation for the phone and assigning a dedicated static IP Address. No luck either
I tried connecting the device using WPS. It all went as it should - my router saw the device, added the mac address to the list of devices etc. The phone acknowledged the handshake. But again it still wont connect.
I checked the router log and it says "DHCP IP: (192.168.1.2)] to MAC address B4:07:F9:336:3D, Tuesday, May 24,2011 03:08:48" which I think is what it should say.
OK I've just fixed it!!! Or at least its connected.
All along I've been securing the network with WPA2-PSK. I just changed it to WEP and the phone connected immediately. I hadn't considered WEP because I read that its not that secure and I do all my banking etc through my PC.
I've tried all the other security options and only WEP works with the phone. I suspect its a compatibility problem between the phone and my router (a Netgear WNT834B v2) because both the phone and router work independently but not very well together. There's plenty of posts discussing the Galaxy S connecting to WPA networks so it can do it.
Now, after trying all the other security options. It won't connect again even on WEP. Bummer. It is acting slightly differently in that its trying to acquire an IP address instead of simply not connecting, although it doesn't seem to be able to find one.
I need to try this on a friends network and see if the router or the phone is to blame. I've no idea... but the phone's a bit too touchy for my liking
I had a similar issue, I had to reflash the ROM to get it to work. Backup all your contacts and stuff and then do a full factory resetting. See if that helps, if it doesnt, reflash the ROM. It should work.
Well I've spent the last few days looking into this issue and it's considerably more widespread than I first realised. The problem is that while many people have a wifi connection issue we all seem to have variations on a theme.
As I say in my case the phone will connect and stay connected to an open network but won't touch a secure one. I tried many suggested fixes and nothing's worked so I am now trying a factory reset.
A couple of questions: there appears to be two ways to do this, a factory data reset through the phone menu; and a hard reset using a combination of volume buttons, etc. The hard reset seems to be the deeper of the two.
When you say full factory setting which one did you mean? I am currently data resetting and therefore using the "authorised" Samsung reset
But how long does this process take? My phone has had a black screen and been vibrating every 10 seconds or so for the last hour. It's getting quite hot and there appears to be no end in sight. Has the phone hung or something? If it has how do I get out of this without bricking the phone? It's beginning to concern me because I'll have to do something real soon.
As an aside, in my search for a solution I found something that might help someone people (it didn't work for me). According to the bloke who posted it, the problem for everyone is that the wifi drivers have not been installed properly and if you enter *#*#526#*#* on your keypad it unlocks a service access that reinstalls the wifi driver. I tried it and the phone told me the software was installed successfully but no change.
Waited long enough so pulled the battery out and restarted the phone. I get the startup screen but after that the screen goes black and it vibrates again every ten secs and I can't get in.
Have to try the other reset.....
Things are going from bad to worse..
Have managed to start a full factory reset using the volume, power and home button but it's gone back into the black screen and vibrating every ten seconds.
I know Im going off topic here but Ive now reset the phone, wiped the cache, tried to apply the sd card update (aborted because it can't find the directory) and it always comes back to the black screen and vibrating every ten secs.
Am now trying to reflash the rom. Oden reports that the flash was successful but the phone wont reboot. I tried a couple of times - one with Re-Partion checked and the other unchecked but neither will reboot. What could be causing that? I somehow remember that my firmware was JPH but I could only get hold of JPK. Could that be the cause?
I seem to have solved all the issues at last. Thought it was going to be a bit over my head for a spell.
Once I discovered that the only way I was going to get into my phone was by flashing the rom the first problem I came across was I didn't know which firmware my phone was using previously, apart from the fact it was 2.2.1 and from Asia. I guessed wrongly and after "successfully" flashing the phone it wouldn't reboot. I then noticed that there were only three variations of the 2.2.1 firmware for my region. The second one I tried went a little further than the first but I got an error message about the SD card. The third one installed no problem.
So I instantly checked the wifi signal and the phone connected to the secured network. And stays connected - so far about an hour and a half.
It's amazing how the phone deteriorated the way it did. Hope it doesn't do it again.
Thanks for any help/suggestions
