best contacts app? - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

im looking for another way to manage contacts. htc's is really good but scrolling down can be slow at times, I tried out acontacts from market hated UI but I did like how you can search by letter kind of like the new zunes UI.
any other recommendations?

Why bother when you can do the same with HTC's.
Open the HTC People app hit menu > search for people, and then start typing on the keyboard that comes up.

Or just press the dedicated search button!

Dave

We're not talking about universal search - just the search within the People app and part of bog-standard Hero 1.5.

smart dialer

anyone know where to get the cab for the smart dialer program? it helps to ease my dialing names? Somehow missing from my kaiser dutty new rom.......
Not sure what you mean by smart dialer but the dialer that was in Dutty's 19199 rom is available on the second posts of his 209 build. I searched the forums and didn't come up with much. Try searching:
smartdialingwm5_257.cab
Are you sure it's not in there? You might just need to enable it.
Dont know what you are looking for exactly, I use this one on a stock AT&T ROM
screenshots and CAB attached.
tyguy its exectly what i needed.......but how come its not included in the roms?? thanks alott
Everybody likes different dialers I know even some who like the original one coming with the AT&T ROM.
It's the same as with "what's included in ROMs". I'm fine for now with a bloatware free installed 2nd gen AT&T (beside the power sucking radio) and the SPB products and would rather like to see "plain pale ROMs" with just the major fixes (like camera fix) and perhaps a good task manager and HTC Audio. Everything else can be installed, though a little bit more work (or configure UC), but at least only what I like. Not that an HTC Home, Weather, etc. is bad but that's my opinion

I thought this was what I was looking for... but it does not have a Speed Dial button... what gives?
Please tell me that you are kidding! Set speed dial up in the options and LOONG press the number. 1 is voicemal per default.
Edit:
It's "menu" (right softkey) - speeddial in case you are lost...
Honestly, did not know that worked... thank you!

few questions

I have Touch-IT Rom on my wing. I have been back and forth on the roms and found the one I have to run real smooth. I have everything setup and really love it. But....
I'm using Touch-IT Vista-Cube
The only thing I've added is Office, some games, and the Keyboard fix.
Q1 - BatteryStatus, how do I get it to stop the popups and it being freeware?
I cant even get through a message now without it poping up.
Q2 - HTC Album, when I click on a picture it opens but none of the commands work unless I open Gesture Tips and close it. Then all the commands work perfect. How do I fix that? I Read to use schens advanced?
Q3 - The keyboard backlight, How do I make it stay on longer? I went into the AdvancedConfig and changed it, but didn't do anything.
I know I am being a little lazy just asking and not figuring it out but I am a busy guy. I will kiss your feet for helping me.
Q1: This is what the author does to keep you update batterystatus, and the #1 reason I hate so I'll never use a rom with batterystatus built in it. To find the latest batterystatus, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751
Q2: Never used HTC album, too much problems on my wing. I use S2V, and highly recommend that.

Q3: Sorry can't help here.

Onscreen Keyboards arent working for me?

I have L26 V9 6.1 professional rom...and i am having trouble using third party on screen keyboards. Ive downloaded and installed cootek touchpal, pocketcm keyboard and htc touch qwerty and none of them work. I dunno if this is a rom problem and i should post this in the rom section but is their another sip application i can use to make keyboards show up? sip changer isnt working for me but when i used duttys 6.1 apr 29 rom , my keyboards worked so i duunno whats up with the v9 rom......can someone help me figure this out so i can get an on screen keyboard to work...this rom didnt come with another third party app keyboard so i desperatly need another on screen keyboard other then this really small default white one...someone plz help

Same thing happenning to me. I have tried different third party .cabs and everything seems fine with the installation, but when I go to select the diamond keyboard nothing happens. Even if I use SIPchanger. It will do nothing.....
I got to work once, but then it stopped again. Some help please.
Holy Crap. What the hell!?
Seriously guys, If you posted this in Leo's V9 Thread. You would have gotten the answer.
Plus I know for darn sure that there are multiple answers in the v9 thread on how to do it.
You know how long that thread is? how long do we have to keep reading crap just so that we can get a decent answer? Why not just save us the trouble and tell us the answer here?
Well I'll search for it since I'm not lazy... but it would have been better if someone actually responded to this thread with a real answer.

The problem with your theory, is that others may have the same issue in the future. Then, when they go the the rom thread to which the problem pertains, they can't find the answer because it is in a whole other sub-forum instead of being in the rom thread.
If you are having issues with a rom, go to that thread and post your issue. Then when a fix is found, it is in the rom thread for future users to find.
I appreciate your frustration, but it is for the betterment of the community for the problems and fixes to be posted in the rom thread to which they pertain.
Thank you for understanding.

T-9 Keypad for HTC Dream

Hi,
Does any know if there is a T9 onscreen application for sms on HTC DReam? I sms alot and the keyboard is driving me nuts!
Any help appreciated.
Better Keyboard has one (which I would really recommend, due to the skins). There's also a Big Keys T9 version.
Hey Jordanjay, Thank you for your help. I tried but when i clicked on the "open in market" icon, it shows that there were no matches in android market for the search.
Would you know what's wrong? Thanks alot.
What build are you on? The soft keyboards will only work with cupcake builds.
You could always try searching for 'T9' in the market, I found both of these applications via that search.
what do u mean by build? i tried searching the market but to no avail. pls help
Go to Settings > About Phone.
What is displayed under Firmware version?

Haven't had issues like that. You should email Better Android (the dev) about it.

Does HTC_IME cause conflicts on G1?

I've read a lot about the HTC_IME keyboard on this forum and really want to install it on the G1, but I've read conflicting reports about it causing conflicts with the G1's physical keyboard. Is that true, or can some G1 owners confirm that the HTC virtual keyboard works without conflict?
NO i use it on cyanogen rom, first get the files needed onto your sd.Turn off android input in local, then use astro to install ime then the clicker.apk, finally goto settings->locale turn on new input setting, reboot.
I use it sometimes can be tricky to get in but it is some much better than stock.
it CAN cause conflicts, but they do work together well. i have an unthemed version of HTC_IME and i have them both turned on so that when the keyboard pops up, you see the android VK instead of the HTC_IME keyboard, and it still uses all the functions of the HTC_IME. (honestly i dont like the way the HTC_IME's keys look so cluttered with numbers and symbols, but i love the user-dictionary functions and such. )
Anyway right when i made the switch to donut i had a problem with it when i tried to calibrate the HTC_IME keyboard without having the clicker.apk installed, continuous loop of FC's of the HTC_IME and i had to go all the way back to cm-4.1.11.1 and then flash back to 4.1.99 THEN back to the latest to get everything back to normal again. but since then i havent had a single problem with it, and they both work perfectly together...

the only "conflict" i've had with HTC_IME and the physical keyboard was when i was typing on the physical keyboard, it made the sound it makes when i type on the VK. not sure that's really a conflict though.
The only problem I've encountered with the HTC IME on my G1 is that when I touch the screen with the keyboard open, the soft keyboard's suggestion thing comes up when I start typing again. It goes away once you close & open the physical keyboard, though.

Yup this and the one above is the "conflict" that is widely known. its more of an annoyance
Thanks all for the input. I've searched and read through a lot of threads on this forum about installing the HTC VK, but there seem to be a lot of different installation procedures out there.
What would be considered the safest/easiest procedure for someone who is a novice with modding Android?
I've modded phones before, but that was only flashing feature phones with generic unbranded firmware...I've never done anything with Android. In fact, I've never even plugged in my phone's USB cable. If someone could post or link to the best installation procedure for the HTC VK I'd appreciate it.
EDIT: I'm running the stock T-Mobile 1.6 ROM if that matters.
Download the files from this thread and use AppInstaller from the Market. I'm just going by what other ppl have said in that thread so I cant guarantee anything w/ that app, I used adb to install the IME on my phone.
*EDIT* Also, just found this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/How_to_install_HTC_Keyboard.

That does sound annoying. Does the conflict go away if you go to Settings and switch back to the Android keyboard? Or is the issue there whenever the HTC VK is installed?
Yes it can be annoying when suggestions pop up when using the physical keyboard w/ HTC IME, just don't tap text entry fields when using HTC IME, use the trackball instead. Probablem solved. Just install it. You can go to settings > Locale and switch to the google IME whenever you want.

Only when HTC IME is enabled.
I got it installed and it's working beautifully!
Thanks to HTC for creating it, and to Cyanogen for making it available!

ya this is what i do. i like having this vk over any other vk because its accurate.... i dont always wanna open my phone lol.
I'm actually not having that problem. My issue is a little different.
Even though I have auto spelling correction enabled for the device keyboard, auto correction isn't actually working. This has been the case ever since I installed and switched to the HTC virtual keyboard.
Does anyone know a fix for this, or is this one of those things I'll have to live with?
what rom are you using it on?
This is the stock T-Mobile 1.6 ROM.
I have a 1.5 Dream & no prob with HTC_IME! Just looking to go up to 1.6 now!
