(Question) How to auto-activate wifi? - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

Hi, is there a way for me to set WiFi to auto-activate when i launch the market or the browser?
Thanks in advance ,
Hovie.

Well... i'm a bit disappointed nobody found any interest in my question..

I don't think there's any out there for now. The only thing there is is to use the wifi on/off widget prior to use market or browser and select the network accordingly.

Thank you for your answer,
Alright then " is It on " is cool anyway

Certain apps have implemented this - it's a permission in the OS. The market app would have to be modified to turn Wifi on and off accordingly.
That being said, I believe wifi itself is always in power saving mode when not connected to an AP. It only checks every couple minutes or so. On Windows Mobile you could even set the interval of checking for wireless networks.

WIFI and GPRS

Can anyone tell me how this works on the wings.
When using Fring you can actually tell it to conect via wifi etc. but what i want to know is does mesenger do it as well or does it go straight to the gprs. Also when you go online via IE. does it default to the GPRS. I dont see anything that says to use the WIFI conection first and it looks like messenger and IE use the GPRS instead even though i have wifi enabled or am i wrong here.
Thanks ahead
By default, all aplications (IE Mobile, Messaging...) use GPRS, 3G (or other cellular network). If WiFi is on and available, all aplications are using WiFi instead of GPRS. (Only Fring has a bit different connection handling)
What Moneytoo said, only sometimes when I enable WiFi on the phone it wont turn off the data connection so I usually do that manually in the connection manager.
When you are discussing the process of connecting to gprs, I will add one question. Is there a posibillity to initiate 3G/GPRS connection without any app? E.G.: When I want to initiate a connection, I have to use some app which initiates it itself. But there are some, which can't handle this - so I have to for example check my e-mail first (altough I don't need it at the moment) and then the connection stays on and I can use second app. The button in conn manager for data connection is disabled, so I can't use it.
ok
OK thats good to know as i always have the wifi on at home. Just wasnt sure if messenger and IE use it or not as to be honust i dont see any diff. in load speed etc. I would have thought it would work faster via wifi the say gprs.

Very true, but I notice (and speculate) that you only cannot select enable or disable the Data connection unless you change or add another connection, or the phone is using it. If I wake up in the morning my phone is using data since I have the HTC home screen with its weather application, hit comm mngr and data is grayed out, but once the phone wakes up or I select Wifi and it starts working again the option to disable data comes up.
For me I just load or refresh the weather page and my data is connected, its set to always be on and since my plan is unlimited I dont worry about it.

Depends on what you are loading honestly, a page that your mobile browser has to read, compress resize and modefy to display properly will take time to load while it does all of this regardless of how fast your connection is. Could also depend on what others are using your connection for and if your on the B or G standard. Overall I notice a fairly good increase from using Wifi but I am only on Edge here which caps at about 20kb/s where 3g can get into several Mbits/s

[Q] Internet settings - always connected or only when needed?

Hi,
sometimes it seems as some settings would just simply disapear... or at least I cannot find them anymore also after an intens search.
What I am looking for right now is the option whether the phone should be connected to the internet all the time or just when an application requests it. Where can this be set?? And where can the option to vibrate as soon as the connection is established be activated?
Thanks

Change WiFi scanning duration??

I saw a thread about change the duration for WiFi scanning when not connected to WiFi. I know it scans every 30 seconds to see what networks are available for use, i think this will have a huge impact on battery for user that want to keep WiFi enabled all day, which is what i would like to do if there is a fix rather then turning it on when i get home off when on the train and on again when at work and off on the train and on at home
I know draky ROM has this set to like 2 minutes, so is there a way we can change it on Doc 9.6.6 speedmod K13C??
EDIT:
just went in the WiFi setting even after connecting to my home network with full bars and everything works fast, it still seems to scan for networks every 5 seconds. Is there a way to disable the scans? It should only scan when not connected to a network and continue after a network is connected.

Not sure if its clear- Your phone will not scan for WIFI networks if its connected to a WIFI network already. It is not possible to scan while connected unless you explicitly go to WIFI settings and check there- then the phone will scan for you because you are asking it to scan.
On the other hand, you can modify the WIFI ON time using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774507&highlight=wifi+timeout
Hope this helps.
No im in the wifi settings and am for sure connected to my home network and i can see the scanning and the circle come up every 5 seconds. So it is scanning every 5 seconds even after connecting, i think it maybe a bug coz your right there is no reason for scanning to occur when already connected.
I'm not talking about the wifi sleep policy. In darky's ROm he has scanning set to 2 minutes so it will scan for networks every 2 minutes when its not connected to a network, for me i would like to change that to 15 - 30 minutes. I don't need it to connect right away when i get home or at work and find it stupid that it scans every 5 seconds for a network. If i really want wifi that badly i will do a manual scan and connect.
it will always refresh more frequently in the settings to let you know what is available to connect to... as soon as you close settings it will refresh less often.
i highly recommend juice defender... it will automatically turn off your wifi when disconnected for a while and connect it again later on. im pritty sure it checks when u turn the screen on. there are other settings and widgets that come with to control your 3g when its not needed to save battery

Maybe your work network doesn't broadcast ssid? You have to configure the connection manually if that is the case.

A wifi conundrum (unsolved)

Hi everyone
I have a profile that that kicks in every 30 mins from 8 am to 9pm, to sync my account. I have set it up to use wifi first, but if there is no wifi connection it will go to my mobile data instead.
Now here is the problem if my phone is on standby it always connects via mobile data regardless of a wifi connection is available. But if I am using my device at the time when the task runs then it will connect to wifi. I have checked my, keep wif on in sleep option and it is set to always.
Could anyone explain as to what this is happening?
Thanks in advance
What is your Android version?
I am currently using a custom rom called exodus which is currently based on marshmallow.
Check if Tasker is excludied from Battery Optimization and whether Wi-Fi is not deactivated while the phone is in sleep mode in Settings/Wi-Fi/Advanced/Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep.
yep tasker is excluded from battery optimisation and the allow wifi during sleep policy is always.
If you're turning wifi on with tasker action wifi turn on, try instead of that shell script "svc wifi enable".
Ok thanks, I will let you know the out come of this. I was using secure settings to enable Wifi as the command built in tasker, is not compatible from kitkat and onwards if I remember correctly.
I found out "svc wifi enable" command does exactly the same thing
Discovered I'm having the very same problem on cm13 and the batch jobs have been done by initialized mobile data. Finally found out a solution to initialize wifi instead of mobile data. I've no limited data plan, but wifi is more battery friendly.

After all this is a community that people use to, find solutions to problems and to get the most out of their device. Which also help others who experience the issue for future reference.
Does anyone else know a solution to this?

Do you actually wait for wifi to connect?
Does your phone do the low power screen off wifi thingy?

Yes under normal circumstances it takes about 20 seconds to connect.
No because for some reason my wifi will only switch on if the screen is on.
I also have uninstaled my custom kernel, but this issue still appears from time to time.
There's a setting in wifi connection settings that you can set to that says "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep"
This same setting is often repeated in battery apps like powernap, naptime, better battery saver etc.
Even though the wording is the same, I don't believe they are all touching the same setting so go find those apps if you have them installed.
Also, disable all native battery savers (including Samsung 2 or 3 different ones,, doze, battery optimization etc etc just to see if your problem goes away.... Which it will. At least you'll know though
I have the same problem with Wi-Fi connection.
I have a profile to turn Wi-Fi on and try to connect when certain conditions meet and the screen is off in that case.
It seems that the phone has difficulties turning Wi-Fi on and connecting to it when screen is off. Tasker does manage to turn Wi-Fi on but the phone somehow does not connect *reliably* in all cases.
Tasker is excluded from battery optimization, Wi-Fi on during sleep. I tried turning cpu on for a short time hoping that it will connect, but still no result.
The only possible solution might be turning the screen on briefly at that moment.
If anybody has a better idea, you are more than welcome to share!

I can certainly say that turning the screen on will enable wifi, as I have resulted to this as well. But unfortunately I do not know any other solutions to try.

My Wifi is set to always "keep wifi on during sleep"
I'm going to resort to flashing stock rom again and see if that helps. As I am only using doze and amplify to save battery, all settings for that has been adjusted to the guide I found.

Before reflash, just disable xposed and see what you get... I will bet half of this soft taco I'm eating your problem disappears with greenify and or amplify. I'm not saying don't use them at all... Just make sure it works without them. I used to have some serious battery apps, but found after disabling, my battery was IMMENSELY better. And I had no config to deal with. But first things first... IT'S without a doubt, no question, a battery app setting or a system app that's being put to sleep that should be white listed

How to Schedule Auto Sync when device is sleeping and Wifi Off ?

I have been looking for internet all these days, everywhere to autosync my device when device is sleeping and wifi is off but couldnt find any working solution as yet.
Tasker should turn on wifi, auto sync then turn auto sync off and wifi. I tried all that I could, but not working.
Anyone can help me with this over here ?
I do have a working autosync profile but for me in order to get it to work, I needed synker and secure settings, because Taskers WiFi action does not always work. If you would like me to share it with you, let me know.
It also takes other things into account as well.
I do have secure settings already. Do share how you do it given your device is sleeping and even WiFi is turned off
OK you can download my profile here, since it would be better, rather than explaining it.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8M8tLEXhDNZQU9XMkV2Qm1RREk/view?usp=drivesdk
I need synker with this ?
Thats correct. But you can try taskers sync option.
Hi, I tried this profile, unfortunately its turning on my data when I am home and Wifi is available. Though I am not sure if its turning on my Wifi while its turned off, I would want to ensure my data stays off. What are the changes I need to make ?
If you wish to remove the mobile data aspect of it altogether you will need to delete, all actions from 9 to 15, then add stop and add end if at then end of the task.
Also it does check to see if wifi is off first and if it is, it will switch it on.
My WiFi is on, but I ensure when screen is off, Wifi stays disabled. And for some reason its not turning back the WiFi when screen is Off. Dont know why
Unfortunately I am in the same boat at the moment, and I have not found anything to resolve this.
I also started my own thread some time ago about it, but I haven't had anyone give me an answer to solve it nor suggest what could cause it.
@ProudRed
UPDATE: I think I might know what the problem is, I have added wake device command at the beginning of my task, via plugin called secure settings > actions > wake device. I will find out tomorrow if this actually works.
I can confirm that adding the plugin > secure settings > actions > Wake device, solves the problem for me. Apparently you shouldn't need this if you adhere to this page http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/androidpowermanagement.html
But for some reason it still does not work for me even if I whitelist tasker and it's plugins from 3rd party battery saving apps like amplify or powernap.
The issue I am having is with connecting the wifi, its getting connected but gets disconnected after 5-10 seconds. I have even tried ensuring that screen keeps on for 2 minutes, even after that Wifi is getting disconnected. Can I have an working profile from you without the mobile data part ? May be I am doing something wrong.
