I've googled, i've searched here and I just can't figure out why i cant find my wireless connection on my phone...it finds both of my neighbours connections but not mine...i'm lost here dudes...any help would be greatly appreciated
i've gone through the network settings on my home pc where my router is plugged into...everything is legit there...my ps3 and other computers find it no problem...had my buddy who got me my g1 to bring his over and see if he could figure it out...tried scanning for it and nothing...fml
does his g1 see your wifi?
na his doesn't find it either
check the b/g/n mode on your router is all i can think of.. if it's on "mixed" or n, then try specifying b or g and see if your g1 picks it up
i'll check that out...my other buddy brought over some LG android and his found it no problem
Change the security encryption of theWiFi,wpa /wpa 2psk.It should work.
I had this problem just today with my new router (Linksys WRT320N) and it wasn't picking it up because I wasn't broadcasting the signal.
Once I enabled the SSID broadcast it connected just fine.
Kind of weird because I never had it broadcasting on my old router (Linksys WRT54GL) and it would connect just fine.

you mean on my phone or on my pc?
still nada
by the way, I know it's elementary but did you try entering the SSID directly in Add New Network?

Hey guys, i got my kaiser a couple of days ago. Its a brilliant machine and i love using internet on it using my wifi connection at home. Suddenly it has stopped browsing the internet. It connects to wifi alright, show good strength signal and everything but when i enter a web address it takes ages to respond and in the end gives the error 'check name and try again.' what's wrong with it...?
i'd appreciate if some could help.
P.S. i have done countless soft resets and a hard reset as well.
cheers
I've had problems like that before. By any chance is your router named something like Linksys or default? I'm wondering if it's connecting but not using the correct profile. I'm not sure about the phones but on a computer you can connect to wifi that is wep enabled without a wep key. You can't get any data from the router but it shows your connected.
Also have you tried another access point to rule out your router?
Don't you have to go to wifi settings and change it from BEST PERFORMANCE to BEST BATTERY or is it the other way around?

No, i haven't tried any other AP, its my home network and i have only one router. Its quite an old one but i am sure its not from linksys. Last time i successfuly used wifi internet on my kaiser was a few hours ago before i installed a remote desktop access program on my kaiser. I have uninstalled it now but the problem remains.
The phone might have profiles based on the name of the router, so if you have a common name and it picks another one up of that name, it could cause this sort of problem.

So what do i need to change, the name of the router or the profile on the kaiser, by the way , where is the profile on the pocket pc ?
P.S. its Belkin and the called WLAN.
go into the com manager and hit settings, then wireless lan. You might want to look around in there to see if you can remove the profile.

Hi again, you wouldn't believe what i am about to tell you. The problem gets solved like magic just with a couple of clicks. In your power settings for the wireless network, change it from best battery life to best performance and voila! it starts working. The moment you change it back to best battery life, it dies out. I have tested it time and again and use another utility called 'vxutil' to use different commands like ping and see information like default gateways and DNS and DHCP but everything was alright.
P.S. this will only work if the network settings are correct ALREADY!
Thanks for the help guys!
Anyone else having trouble using the internet over wifi (wep & wpa) with the actiontec router that comes with Verizon fios? I can ping the G1 and telnet into it. Just can't use the browser. I am able to connect to other WPA encrypted routers and everything works great. This problem existed on rc19 and continues on rc30.
Thanks for any help.

It worked well with my actiontec, with WPA as well. sounds strange...maybe a router reboot

Was the first thing i tried.
I don't have one yet (it is coming December 13th HAHA) But can you two compare firmware versions? Maybe you need to update that... or maybe there is a setting that is preventing the phone from getting to the net. It sounds more like a setting on the router than the phone.
I would check DNS settings and make sure all works well... Can other wifi devices connect to the net?
Same here, 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7.
Have also tried static and dynamic ip's. My daughters DS and computer are connected via wifi. Next I'll try turning UPnP on.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Edit: UPnP is a no go. I don't want to do a factory reset but, looks like I'm headed that way.
have the same problem
what did you end up doing?
tried it
didnt work...
I have fios myself and the wifi portion of the Actiontec router is craptacular. I've had all sorts of compatibility problems with various wifi cards. I have replaced the primary router with a .N aftermarket one and hooked up the Actiontec as a regular client so the TV cable boxes can still get programming updates. Naturally, I turned off the wifi on the actiontec.
So its basically like this:
Actiontec -> D-Link N (or whatever you want) -> Internet
If you go down this route you just have to make sure whatever router you make your primary is not on the same private network. Actiontec uses 192.168.1.X. I've had no problems since switching to a higher end router. Also, you can clone your mac address from the actiontec or call verizon and have them reset your DHCP lease. They know the drill.
I have FIOS with the newer Westell routers and the wifi sucks on them as well. I got a belkin and use it as a wifi expansion. So it uses the same IP as the router but just adds a wifi network. Pretty neat if you ask me.
so i think may have found a solution that may work for you (it worked perfectly for me). what i did was switch my security to WPA2 and left the encryption standard to AES only as a pose to TKIP+AES. I also reset the router before this but im sure you dont have to do that. let me know if this works.

Could you be kind and give us more details of exactly how you connected and setup the belkin router to improve the wifi? My FiOS wlan also sucks and Verizon tech support is useless.
Thank you.
Oops! Just realized this is a very old thread......
So, I've searched for a bit, on here and Google, but not having much luck. My phone has always been good at connecting to WiFi hotspots. However, I am currently visiting a house that has a Wireless N router and using WPA2 security, and it won't connect.
Is it true that these phones have issues connecting to that or is there a fix?

Well the hero only has b/g wireless capabilities, change the wireles router to also brodcast in g mode, since n will not work.
Here is the odd thing. I mentioned about it to the person who setup the wireless network, and he said that the router is broadcasting in B, G, and N. My phone detects it, but when it attemps to connect to it, it says "Disconnected". Am I doing something wrong or is there something missing in my phone?
My phone connects just fine to my N router. There might be setting restrictions that need to be changed on the router via the administrative computer

hi,
my laptop and my galaxy p1000 can discover and connect to the wifi in my house without any problem, but my htc g1 cannot discover the network, it cannot connect to the network as well if i input the ssid by manual. the interesting thing is that my g1 is able to discover the wifi signal from other house, though i am not sure i can connect to them because they are all password protected.
i think there must be something wrong with the wifi settings in my house, but i just do not know where should start to troubleshoot this issue. please give me some ideas/suggestions.
thanks,
david

Go to "Wi-Fi Settings" and then to "Advanced" by pressing "Menu" button.. Then select "Regulatory Domain", select 13 or 14 channels... You will have your wifi
If the above didn't solve your problem check if your router is broadcasting in B/G/N
Well I been helping my sick aunt and she doesn't have WiFi and my phone does not have service so I depend on WiFi. Well I tried to create an adhoc network and my phone sees the network but can't connect. I have heard tell that adhoc is not able to be connected too but searching around has not found an exact result. I have the CyanogenMod Mod 10.2 android 4.3.1 on my phone. I did see something about a WPA supplement fix. Is there a fix for this and if so how. Would be great to be put on the proper course. And I did search. But I didn't find a thread regarding this.

When you say you created an ad-hoc network, do you mean you are trying to have a laptop that is connected to a wired network broadcast its wi-fi so your phone can connect by wi-fi to the laptop (and thus the internet)?

Used my dlink dwa-130 USB dongle to create an adhoc network on a desktop computer. The desktop has a satellite connection. I was trying to share the connection from the desktop over the adhoc network to my phone with internet connection sharing. But my phone can't connect to the network but sees the security type and ssid.
