How can I package images together into a wallpaper package and have them showup in the wallpaper gallery?
I know you just set any image as a wallpaper, but if they were in the wallapaper gallary it would be much easier.

im rooted, so that isnt an issue.
Then all you have to do is copy the launcher.apk to your computer, open it in 7zip, find the folder where the wallpapers are and drag & drop the wallpapers you want into that folder within 7zip. Don't unzip the file... just drag and drop.
Then, just copy the file back into the appropriate system folder on your phone and you're done.

If your talking about pictures that you only want viewable in something like "Astro File Manager" you could put a dot in front of the folder in question.
For example, for the pictures I have of my GF, i hide it by naming the folder ".GF" and it wont show in Gallery at all... but if you use a file browser like Astro you can view the files by going into the folder.
In Linux, a dot before the name of the folder usually means a hidden folder, hence thats why gallery won't pick it up then.
ive added dots to the beginning of some of the folder, but they are still appearing in the gallery
try using the nomedia file.
connet your phone to your computer, go to the file you don't want pic, music or whatever from create a new txt file open it, save as name nomedia change file type ot all files remove the .txt extention and then delete the first .txt file..
works for me...

ok that didnt work either. i think its because the images i am trying to hide are in a .zip file. for example the themes that you can download for lock 2.0 and weather widgets donate. anyone know how to hide these images?
so none has a solution to this problem?

well thats what i believe, because i dont know where else the images would be located. f
If you wana hide pic, you can use advanced launcher to just hide the gallery. Images in a zip should not come up in your gallery unless the zip was extracted. I think you my have images in your "download" folder. Just move them somewhere else and they shouldn't come up anymore

When I select my custom wallpaper, I don't want to go through the resizing process over and over again. Is there a way I can copy the wallpapers I want to the system directory in order to use the system wallpaper app? I tried searching for this topic, but couldn't find anything like it. Thanks for any assistance with this issue.
*Update*I found my answer on another website:
"They are not in a directory.. they are on the Launcher.apk under \res\drawable
I know you can replace the wallpapers there with your own ( I've done this before) but I'm not sure If you'll be able to add more wallpapers to the gallery without replacing the default ones. "
To MOD: Please delete this thread!!! Thanks!!!

It would probably be easier if you checked out on the market Wallpaper Set and Save.

The wallpapers are in the Launcher.apk file.
Replace as necessary and re-sign the apk file.
You will find wallpapers that are in there twice they are in fact the wallpaper itself and a thumbnail (with "small" added onto the name).

I've got that much from searching around. Is it just too in depth that theres not a guide for it? Sorry Im a noob to android.
The fact that you have to replace them is what gets me, is it too hard to write new ones into the .apk?
And even if (heres the noob Q) how would I pull apart the .apk, and then resign it?

Wow you are a noob. LOL.
To open the apk just use winrar or similar. Extract it like you would a zip file but don't delete anything. Now say you are wanting to replace Wallpaper1.jpeg, Wallpaper2.jpeg, Wallpaper3.jpeg and Wallpaper4.jpeg you only need to replace those 4 and the corresponding _small.jpeg file (example: Wallpaper1_small.jpeg) with your appropriately named replacements (customized Wallpaper1.jpeg and Wallpaper1_small.jpeg) and replace the original. Then take your modified files and drop it back into the /drawable directory of your apk file. Sign your apk file and you should be good to go. Make sure that you don't have a Thumbs.db in the directory. It's safe to have in there but it can take up space and it's completely unnecessary. In regards to just adding additional wallpapers it would have to be done from source. It's probably easier for a beginner to just rename and replace.
To resign... (sigh) there are about half a dozen ways to do it. Seek and ye shall find.
So I am having issues with the way Gallery sets wallpapers.
Even though I have a high resolution photo, it insists on cropping the photo and somehow scaling it without zooming. So I end up with a really terrible zoomed in portion of my original picture. I would prefer to just dump my wallpaper in the touchwiz or launcher pro wallpaper chooser.
Thoughts?
Up, any ideas?
they are inside TwWallpaperChooser.apk and about setting up wallpapers is best if u use the correct res 960x800 that way it won't crop it or scale it.
When setting the wallpaper, you can grab the crop border and "pull it out" to fit the entire image so it won't be cropped.
I have done this but it still looks terrible even though the picture looks great on the computer

Hmm being new to android your statement about it being inside an APK confuses me. I thought APK's were containers to be installed on the phone. Do you have any insight on how to add/remove files from an APK? As far as the proper resolution, it continues to scale the picture from the size presnted on the screen will degraded quality.
Another question, in the android theming forum, Alot of themes are labled CM5/6, does this mean they can only be used with phones with CM? or just optimized?
I'm having this same problem. Anyone figure out a way add pictures to the twWallpaper chooser?
I take no responsibility if you brick your phone doing this. Modifying system files is always done at your own risk.
To modify an .apk (in this case TwWallpaperChooser.apk):
step 0: Make a backup!!!
adb shell
su
cp /system/app/TwWallpaperChooser.apk /sdcard/TwWallpaperChooser.bak
Click to collapse
then get out of adbshell
exit
exit
Click to collapse
(that's right, 2 "exit"s, one to exit root, one to exit the shell)
1) pull the file from your phone to your computer:
adb pull /system/app/TwWallpaperChooser.apk
Click to collapse
2) Open the archive
a) If in linux just use archive manager
b) In Windows it might be easier to change the extension from .apk to .zip first
3) Add the files you want. Wallpapers go in the apk here: /res/drawable-hdpi/
3b)If you changed the extension to .zip change it back to .apk
4) Push the files back to your phone. Theoretically this command should work:
adb push TwWallpaperChooser.apk /system/app/
Click to collapse
but adb (for me anyway) doesn't like pushing files into /system, so you might have to do this instead:
push the file to the sd card:
adb push TwWallpaperChooser.apk /sdcard
Click to collapse
Then use root explorer to move the file to /system/app or use adb:
adb shell
su
mv /sdcard/TwWallpaperChooser.apk /system/app
Click to collapse
5) reboot
adb reboot
Click to collapse
Ta-da!
Tried the method above except I used Root Explorer to move around the file. Everything is fine except none of the wallpapers I added show up. I tried ADB but I get a Cross-Device link error when I try to move it.

Hi, I am trying to make changes to an icon theme but keep getting "Wrong theme format" error in the Miui v4 theme manager.
I used the same process I did back on GB that worked... renamed the .mtz to .zip, extracted it, renamed icons to icons.zip, extracted it. Then I edited .png's in the icons folder, zipped all the .png's into a file called icons.zip and removed the .zip by renaming icons.zip to just icons. Then I zipped the files: description.xml, icons, and preview folder. I renamed this .zip to a .mtz, pushed it to my phone and tried to apply the theme but got the error. I've searched but haven't found any solutions.
Has the icon theme format changed for v4? Thanks for any help.
Just take a MIUI icons set (like Cain HD for ex)
- open the .mtz using 7zip (no need to rename or change extension)
- double click on "icon", drag and drop ur icons.
- then close everything, it will ask u if u want to update/refresh the file. say YES and that's it

I would've tried this method but unfortunately I have a Mac and haven't been able to find a good 7zip equivalent :/ Any idea why it worked when I decompressed/compressed mtz's on GB but not ICS? The format all seems the same.

My guess is that somehow you didn't package it correctly. Double check to see if that's the issue.
i did it this way
if i have an iconpack in wrong size, i first resize the icons
then i mark all icons and add them to an archive with 7zip
now i take the icons.zip and the description.xml add it to a new zip
inside the zipfile, i rename the icons.zip into icons and you are ready^^
Have you tried using the 'store' option - I.e. no compression?
Changing the extension while inside the theme zip will also help to avoid certain issues.
Well I was able to get it working by using StuffIt Archive Manager to replace icons without uncompressing/compressing the mtz. Still strange it doesn't work when I uncompress it. I'm positive I package it back in the same way, I've triple checked. Guess I'll just have to use the StuffIt Delux trial for now.
is it possible to change/mod icon sets to work with miui? how do i get icon packs in the psd, png, jpg format into an mtz to work with miui, i was specifically looking at the pace icon set and dope icons by filipovsky.
it's easy, download a miui icons themes or a miui theme .mtz, change .mtz in .zip. Open it with winzip or 7zip. Inside u may have a icons file, unzip it and add .zip in the end. Then open it with winzip or 7zip.
now u have the icons of the theme.
If U want to replace some or all , be care to keep the name of the icon u replace, because it's the name of the Application in miui.
thank you for your reply i will give that a try.

You have to zip it properly. open the icon folder and select all icons, then right click and go to 7zip add to archive. take resulting zip and rename to icon and put it in the theme folder . select all files in the theme and right click and 7zip add to archive again. rename to .mtz and apply

You need rename each image to right package name, or it will not work with miui, when you done , put all theme in one folder, zip all files ( not folder ), and change archive name to "icons" with out extension , then add "description.xml" and maybe some preview image, and zip both these thing to one zip file and rename to "YOUR_NAME.mtz" and it should work .
Sorry my bad english :fingers-crossed:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27402389&postcount=16
so some of the names are cup.png , microphone.png, what would i rename those too before i zip them all up?
thanks.
Well the easiest way would be to take an existing icon folder from a theme with many icons and copy the icon names to the corresponding icons in your folder.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I went ahead and converted those for some practice. I removed the ones I didn't know what to do with, like the cup and star, for example. all are working except the $ which I wanted to be Wallet, but I haven't figured out the name yet.
