Radio update question - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

might sound like a dumb question:
do I need to flash a radio separate to update it, or will it update when I use the latest rom. So far, I have only used modaco desire roms from day one rooting of the nexus. I use at&T, so maybe the radio updates arent necessary?

Well, if the ROM is cooked with the radio update, you don't need to do it separately... else, it is recommended... especially if your are using a newer ROM with the latest RIL libraries [for stability and compatibility sake]...

Has Anyone Successfully Flashed A Cooked Rom On AT&T N1?
My att n1 should be deliverd tomorrow, and I was wondering if the tmo rooting process has worked for anyone with the att version. I know with previos phones the rom and radio had no bearing as long as it was GSM however I noticed that the att version does not support the tmo bands and vise versa so should the radio update be skiped? or does it work ok?
if u look around and read... u'll find the answer...
FYI, yes... most of the cooked ROMs work fine with the ATT N1.. CM 5.0.4.1, MCR 1.9+, Enomther 1.7.1, Modaco Desire A15+.
The difference between the T-Mo N1 & the ATT N1 is the radio... the EPE54B firmware has the firmware module for both radios and has an updated RIL (Radio Interface Layer) library. CM does not touch the RIL library, so what's in the stock remains. Enomther's & Modaco's ROMs already have the latest RIL libraries because the firmware was leaked before the ATT N1 was released...
I'm using MoDaCo 2.0. Works great. Unlocked bootloader, flashed Amon's 1.6.2 recovery, then flashed the ROM. It's not rooted, however. I thought that was only necessary to use WiFi tethering, etc.? I tried the "SuperBoot", but it put everything in a FC loop. I had to wipe & reflash to get it working again.
thanks guys, I have seen that the roms were working for att, however did not see any information on a difference in the rom prep, and wanted to be sure, because I intend to hack this phone before even making a call with it, and did want it to be an all night process. thanks again

Great... go ahead and have fun with cooked ROMs... the only difference between the two devices is what I explained in my earlier post... so cooking is the same...

Flash Video

I was wondering what changes as far as the flash versions that are put into the roms? I know that the newest flash isn't officially supported on the hero. I guess what I am trying to ask is why I can go back to an older rom and watch video on msnbc but when I flash to the newer roms I can't. Is it because of the flash player that is being used? If so is it possible to extract the flash from one of the older roms and push it to the newer one?

I'm not sure what your issue is, why don't you try posting this in the ROM thread for the current ROM you're using. Might get some more friendly responses there.
FWIW
I should rephrase what I was asking. What I am wondering is if the flash that is going into the current cooked roms is the same that was used on the eris release builds.

A few informations..

Hi,
I recently switched from a Xperia X10 to the Nexus One due to the lack of update from Sony Ericsson.
We can't unlock the bootloader the X10 so even if I flashed a lot of custom rom and root ect... It's my first time with kernels ect...
So I was wondering on how the kernel is important and if I well understood, he is the one that will put the driver for the hardware as it's the one that can increase audio and put 720p ect..
And I also see a lots of threads about radios ect... I totally understood how to flash it ect.. but what is it exactly ? Is it like a better frequence for your antenna or ??
I'm currently running kernel version : [email protected] and baseband version : 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2 and I have Passion Recovery.
Could you please indicate me a good combo of kernel/radio/rom that would give me 720p, running at least Froyo or Gingerbread (for flash) and that is stable with a good linpack/quadrant score.
Thanks in advance,
Zyryck
Simplest thing for you, CyanogenMod 6. It is FroYo, has the audio mod and 720p camera kernel. And you should already have the best Radio.
There is no reason to really mix and match stuff at all. The state of the development scene isn't that way anymore.
Some people do fiddle with kernels and Korean radios and such, but they do it because they like doing that sort of thing, not because they have to.
90% do not have to worry about those things. Install CyanogenMod 6 or some of the other popular mods in the development section and you should be happy.
Don't worry about the individual parts until you get used to things, and even then it won't be needed, just a hobby.
Ok thank you it is certainly what I'll take. But Cyan 6 or 6.1 ?
But I still don't know why Radios stand for.
And yes I'm one of those Guys that will flash to another roms every 2 Days but since Nexus S and new Phones are out I know Devs are leaving Nexus One so that's why I was asking forr a fast and a stable one.
So I'd just like to know what's the Radio ?
The radio is hardware/software that deals with the communications side of your phone. GPRS/HSDPA/WiFi etc.
That's what I was thinking about but then what are the differences between a radio on an other one ? Are there some faster than others ?
Plus Radios are generic ? It doesn't depend from your Carrier or Country

If you're go to run Froyo you'll be required to update your radio to 32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08.

Well I'm running 2.2.1 with 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2.
Should I update it to the one you said because I don't see anything going wrong. Except perhaps that when I connect to internet without Wifi it's written 2G but when I had my X10 it was either 3G or H so I don't know if it is related or not since I've only been able to connect to 2G with the Nexus even when it was not rooted and flashed to any rom, radio or kernel
Wild monks have pretty good kernels but I have no idea about what radio to choose cuz theres literally a lot of them. I just get really confused with them and
Still looking for a good radio tho.lol. But cyan mod is freaking awesome. Combined with inexus theme and it's the best ui interface I can find. plus I have swype too so I'm not going to give up my nexus any time soon until tegra 2 phones arrive
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I'm gonna wait before putting my hands on the Atrix and other tegra 2 phones because I want to see if there won't be any problem with the bootloader ect... Because getting stuck with a device that can't get bl unlocked is very very frustrating.

That's actually not true.
There's no need to be messing with your radio unless you are having a specific problem. If your custom ROM requires a certain Radio to work, it will probably be included in the package anyway.
Flashing custom ROMS is almost completely safe but flashing Radios can lead to a bricked device in short-order.

[Q]Should I upgrade radio?

i have 4.06.00.12_7
what benefit is there? one problem i sometimes notice when making or getting phone calls nobody can hear me for the first 5s of the call...
and if an upgrade is in order what radio is recommended
running cm7
a lot of people have this problem. i dont think it is related to the radio. install the latest nightly or redstar kernel which seems to help. or try installing the dewonkificator
I don't think it is related to any ROM, I had it on stock, cm6 and cm7, seems to just be an n1 issue.
When people hear RADIO they think antenna and think that it's only for reception. The new radios include updated decoders also. This is why MUI-Dev and new roms NEED the 5.08+ Radios. The new OTA update (Gingerbread) includes the 5.08 Radio. You can even upgrade to 5.12 but at least use 5.08. There is no reason to be on version 4 anymore.
You can grab the newest radio here: http://www.myhangoutonline.com/downloads/category/19-radio

It is absolutely ROM related. This was not an issue on CM6 nor the stock GB OTA. There are race conditions within the CM7 kernel causing the "wonk." Cyanogen and Team Douche are working the issues and have almost solved the problem. This problem is prevalent on alot of other ROMS as they are mostly based on CM7 as well.
i thinks will be related with camera .. because after i use ver 5.08 my movie is getting smoother..

That's due to the new decoders/encoders built into the new radio... This is why at this point in time everyone should be on either 5.08 or 5.12.
You need to be at least on 5.08 for some of the GB enhancements.

[Q]radio question

I just rooted my g1 2 days ago and after reading more about this I think I have an outdated radio how can I upgrade? the radio I currently have is ota-radio-2.22.19.261 also I'm running kernel version 2.6.35.9 is there an upgrade for that? any help is appreciated
Depends, you don't technically are out of date on it. If you wants the latest ROM then you'll have to update the SPL (HBOOT) and radio related to the ROM.
For the radio, look for the keywords "2708" or "0013d" in the forum.
About the kernel: newer isn't always better, sometimes they break wifi, eat battery... - my suggestion is, if your kernel works fine then stick with it.
