Can anyone pull the full Skype app off of the Motorola Droid for the rest of us android users to use? And, will it work on the rest of our androids?

There's a full version of skype for android now? Not the light version? Are there any news blogs about this?

It's only for verizon and it's still not full.... voice still is over call. At least that's what the comments in the skype blog say. No voice over data/wifi.

There is an App Called Nimbuzz on the market, you can make a Skype call with that App.
Hope this is usefull for you.

Alex

HI
Hey u can use the software named : Fring : Its realy nice and easy . Make ur account and u can make voice calls using ur skype .. And u can make cals through wifi ...

I do use Fring...I was just wondering if the native skype app on verizon was pulled from the phones. As it seems it doesn't do true voip anyway, it isn't really useful anyway.

google voice+ gv help please!!

How do I make calls form my headset with out it having to call me back first, you know like a regular cellphone, i know it can be done because i followed instructions from a thread on this which i can no longer find. ive tried clicking call through in gv but that doesn't work, can someone help pls. thanx in advanced
I know that the official Google Voice app does direct dial without ringback. Maybe you want to transition to that app instead.
as for the unofficial GV app, i'm not sure.
Doesn't DirectDial (dialing out) still use your minutes?

Skype?

How come Skype is not available in the market when it is for all the verizon droids?
Can we sideload Skype? (after root of course) Does anyone know a link towards it?
Thanks!
I would like to know how to do this as well. My boss only likes skype to IM with so it would be great to do it. I am more than willing to try stuff out if someone points me in the right direction...
No native Skyp app for Android yet, however there is Fring (search the Market). It's a mobile client that integrates with many communication/messaging platforms, including Skype. It can even handle videocalls!
A caveat: it's developed by an Israeli startup of some shady provenance. God knows who else will be listening to your conversationgs and reading your chats
ignore this post. apparently i read "k's" as "w's", so i thought we were discussing Swype. Carry on.
Skype not Swype.....
needs some skype. they show it off on the droid commercials. they even say its in the app store. they cant lock it down to verizon only can they?

actually they can. Verizon and Skype have a deal setup. its also going to be impossible to hack since it doesn't use the data connection but actually the regular voice line. since ATT would charge you per minute to use its voice channel it would take the purpose out of skype
dam...
so Fring is as close as we'll get then?

Sadly for now yes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTh2Xpao21A - Go to around 40 seconds in for a verbal confirmation about this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDD9unymFB8 - this whole video is showing that it does in fact use the voice network and not the data.
Just encase you might of had doubt in what I was saying.
"another cool thing" lies!
verizon is the worst thing to happen to skype.

Fring is pretty okay, actually. It supports voice, video (for both outward and front-facing camera), and IMs. When you get a Skype call or IM, it rings, just like it should. Voice portion works great over 3G. Video is not restricted to W-Fi, and appears to work quite adequately over 3G as well.

skype
Well I got Skype Lite, which does great text chat which you may be interested in. It does voice calls to skype contacts but it does so by calling a local phone number, so it kinda defeats the purpose of skype.
ugh new people cant post links so here you go
androidfreeware.org/download/skype-lite-beta-1.0.0.5
From what is being reported on gizmodo and engadget its permanent or at least until Skype and fringe work out some business

Skype uses an internal Verizon phone number to connect and maintain the voice connections. There is minimal data used while using skype. This internal number is setup to avoid billing and does not consume your minutes when used.
Therefore there currently is no workaround for skype since the software does not function per a normal VOIP software package.

he can't be expected to read the rules, so lets just call this forum "Nexus One Android Development & Questions about Skype"
Nimbuzz as Skype client. Works over good 3G or WiFi. Lacks video.

video chatting

What is the best app for video chatting form my gtab running TnT lite lastest. My wife uses Win-win on her laptop. Are there any that are stand alone no need for an internet connection just a home network.
Not exactly answering your question I'm afraid, but Yahoo messenger works for me for video chat between my wife's laptop and my G tab (or is that the other way around?)!
Could you please give your version of Yahoo Messenger + Video plugin
My version force close.
Thanks.
Under "About Messenger", it says version 1.3.1.4583
I don't know how to find info about the video plugin?
Could you attach apk for both please?
I am not able to find Yahoo messenger in the market. I did find a Y! Suites app an installed it it had a link for messenger when I clicked on it I was prompted to login so I did. I was then shown a offer to install yahoo messenger for Android, I click on it and get a,message that the protocol is not supported.
That is Odd. I was able to install Messenger 2 weeks ago on my GTab and now the market is showing the same results as you. No Messenger available to download.
I did find that it can be searched for from the PC web page, but mine shows installed already. Can't verify if it still be sent to GTAb or not. Might want to try that route.
Glad, I am not the only one having the app not found issue. Thought I was having problems with the market. I have had problems finding other apps that have been mentioned in the GTablet forum.
Anybody have a solution or a better suggestion as to which app to use that will allow me and my wife and kids video chat. Would really like to find an app that would allow this while not necessarily connected to the internet but still connected to a wifi home network.
As far as I know, there is software that allows video conferencing, but I highly doubt that they have been ported to google apps. I know most of those out there are meant for corporate use.
but there is a simple solution to video over your home wifi. move your location so you are in close proximity to your wife and talk to her....lol.
All joking aside I wish I could help you, but until someone creates an app that allows video over private wifi, your kinda stuck.
But I can confirm that yahoo video does work.
I thought thier is a new Skype release just out.

It's possible to run my ReelPortal app within your own network, because the server software is also available for free. However, there's a catch, when you first start the ReelPortal app, it needs internet access to retrieve data to start up. After that, you can unplug the internet, and it would work fine. Another catch is P2P mode would not work without internet access, because P2P actually relies on an Adobe server. But within your own network, Client-Server mode would be fine, because you'd be using your own server.
ReelPortal is designed to run indefinitely, so unless you exit the app, you don't need to reconnect the internet. When set up properly, it can serve as a video intercom within your home/office.
A brief description of ReelPortal: http://reelportal.blogspot.com/p/read-me.html
If you're interested, here's a long thread on using it with the gTab:

This thread, with confirmation from a Skype staff member, seems to say that it IS coming for Android but will be locked to a carrier - Verizon. Not sure what this means in terms of XDA being able to hack it for other devices, but there you have it.

Of course. It seems like everything is going the way of the AT&T/iPhone. "No one else can have it." That's crap.

[Q]how to use two way call rec in naA-08

as the thread title states how to use two way call recordinf feature in nAa-08 kernel.........i didnt find it in settings................. can anybody help
U may find it somewhere in tha settings. Or there must be a app in the market. Search for two way call recorder
Can't find it too...searched everywhere with no luck but some apps from the market works like a charm
whats the function of two way rec? n why is it against the law in some country? ?
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
you can record both sides while taking to phone (your voice and the other side's voice).
until now you could only record your voice and the other one was very silent.
It's against the law to record phone calls in some countries. At least without letting the other side know he/she is being recorded.
Yeah I'm also curious about this feature from the nAn-08 kernel. I've tried some from market and found none that I like. Would love to have some native recording capabilities with MiniCM.
Now you have that option in the last release of Alf Kernel
