Do any of the current ROMS support JIT? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I enabled JIT on my friends mytouch3g and wanted to mess around with it on my N1. So do any of the current roms now support it? Or am I going to have to hunt down CM beta3?

Basically, yes. Though: since you found out that it exists in that version of cmod, I'm guessing you also saw the threads / info by cy / etc that it was hopelessly unstable? Faster than heck, but ridiculously unstable. Not sure why you'd want to bother?

True that shograt... but I don't blame mcfroger. I was curious myself and tried it out. Your device will be blazing fast for about 5 seconds, before it force closes.

SLOW Hero even with class 6sd?

So Im running JACxHEROSkiv1.6r2B and I have a 4gig class 6 sd card. I have the fat32 set up, ext3, and linux swap at 32.
I had a class 4 before, but hearing everyone rant and rave how fast hero runs with a class 6 I went out and bought one. However, hero still seems to be a little laggy and slow..... at least for me. I'll get the htc screen and the loading screen.. I even reverted back to superhero v2 and that was the fastest hero for me, no lag, no loading screens nothing.
But the newer hero's seem to be slow for some reason even with a class 6. Can anyone help, I absolutly love hero, just want it to be fast like how everyone says it is.
Thanks in advance...
hang your head in shame...
the speed of hero roms will vary depending on the phone itself, the way the phone is used, the settings on the phone, the way people use their phone, how they choose to set up their linux-swap size and what they set swappiness to, in short, different people get different results with hero roms, some find them fast, some find them tremendously slow, its most likely a mind over matter type deal... so finally we reach the point of all this.... stop with the why isn't my hero blazing fast threads and how do i make hero make hero faster threads. basically you have 2 options for optimizing your hero build, set it up exactly the way the first post of the thread tells you to, or you can pm the people with amazingly fast hero roms and ask them what they are doing...
wow i was a smart ass and still managed to give a half way decent answer
I did follow ALL directions, i've flashed tons of roms and experienced different things with different builds. Kind of wierd how superhero v2 seems to run faster then the new builds. Even with the echo at 60, some threads say set it to 10, etc. Followed all directions, and still have these results. When a thread says FAST, you kind of expect it. I mean gimme a break going from checking the market to your home screen you get a loading issue, c'mon. There has to be something to alter to fix it. I know im not the only person having slow issues with hero EVEN on a CLASS 6
there was a post i just read where some one set there linux-swap to 96mb and swappiness to 100 and said it ran really fast, that was the newest jacski hero rom version b i think. you could always try that, though whether or not it will suffer future slow downs remains to be seen. I haven't tried a hero rom recently (since 3.6.8.1 was released by cyanogen damn that was a while back) because of the slow downs i would get after a day or so i don't know much other than to try what others are saying works.
though with the way drizzy's new hero v1 is shaping up to look i might have to try it when he drops it. I remember trying jac's 1.4 hero, if you think the hero roms they have now have lag... but alas now i am reminiscing
I agree, his new hero rom is supposed to be the best to date, so we'll see, I just flashed over to cyans 4.0.4 since its fast. I also read about the 96mb and 100swap, but I want to see what happens in a few days with that.

I had the same issue with my 32mb swap. I changed it to 96 and saw a HUGE increase in performance. No compcache. Just swap with 60 swappiness and I hardly ever see Loading or the HTC screen.
Here is a thread that discusses this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551643
It is among many, however almost everyone has their own opinion based on their own phone which is of course based on their own needs. The key is playing around with it and seeing what works best for you. Start with the swappiness and then try your swap partition size and see what works best for you.
Then there was a vague tweet from jac about a possible fix for bluetooth, and twisted zero is supposedly getting really close with the led's, also with the htc kernal that was made open.
It really wouldn't suprise to me to see in another month or so a hero rom that competes with stock cupcake, maybe i'm too optimistic though lol

well when you compare jac's 1.4 back when hero threads were getting thrashed left and right to what the hero rom's are now. there is a vast improvement. I remember when I couldn't use a hero rom for more than a few hours without having to go to a stable rom. now my friend has had a rom on his phone a few weeks and hasn't said anything to me about it running horribly so maybe one day...

I agree that the Hero roms are stable enough for daily use provided that you make certain adjustments, but in regards to the LED and bluetooth I don't think they will be perfect for a long time. The LED will hopefully come soon since Twisted reported getting them to work. But I don't understand why we don't have fully working LED's like that was announce last week. Perhaps it was an accidental fix that couldn't be recreated? Perhaps it was a fluke? Who knows. What I do know is that the LED's still need work even after it was reported to have a fix. As for bluetooth... as far as I know and read it could only be initialized by manual command lines and not from the settings app. Even IF there is a fix... will it be full bluetooth (A2DP) or just enough to pair and use a headset?
The fact that the BT and LED's for Hero builds tend to work with MT3G and not the G1 tells me that it's hardware related and not so much in code or scripts. So if fixes to the LED and BT are developed and perfected then how will the MT3G work after flashed a ROM with these patches included? Will they conflict? Will we need different ROMs for different phones? I'm not trying to be negative or pessimistic but I'm just not seeing full fixes for these issues to be ready, available and implemented this week or next. Maybe in a month or two... but that's as far as my optimisism takes me. But I hope that I'm wrong.

Custom roms are slooooooooooooooooow.....

I'm not new to flashing custom roms in the WinMo world but, I just got my Hero like 3 days ago. I have searched and read about everything here so far and from what I have read the reason for flashing custom roms is SPEED and CUSTOMIZATION.
Well, I have flashed twice and ended up re-rooting and going back stock. I'm not trying to take anything away from the developers because I know it's hard work. I did it with my old TP with WinMo for a couple of years. When I flashed my custom WinMo roms they where ALWAYS faster than any stock rom.
HOWEVER it seems to me like none of these roms for the Hero are ready for prime time yet and from what I'm reading all of the decent developers have crossed over to the Evo so the chance of us getting some decent roms in minimal at best.
So my question is should I just wait till something is released that is more stable or should I cross over as well? AGAIN I'm not trying to take anything at all away from the developers. I expected some differences coming from WinMo. I just wanted to know if anyone else felt the same way. If not, what rom are you running? Is it faster than the stock .6 rom from sprint? Does the camera work?
What ROMs did you try? I've used DamageControl and am now on Darchdroid and have had no issues on either. Both run way faster and have way better battery life than stock. Everything works. There are tons of members here that would say the same thing...
What ROMs have you tried? Any ROM with an overclocked kernel will be faster than stock. All current ROMs also have working camera.
Are you waiting until everything finishes syncing? The first 20 minutes of your ROM experience will be a little slow as it pulls down whatever info you plugged in for Google/Facebook/Twitter/etc., but once that's done your custom ROM will be smooth sailing. I've used Fresh 2.0d, 2.1.2, PureHero, and now DarchDroid 2.7 and they've all been substantially faster than stock. Especially with OC and JIT, there's a tangible difference.
I'd trying something again and let everything sync up. I've been impressed by DarchDroid, but I'm also an AOSP fan.
What roms have you tried?
I use Buufed 2.0b and it is very fast. I used FreshToast 2.1, which was also fast until I jacked with the settings. Others are also fast as well.
If you are describing the first boot after flashing a rom, that may be because dalvik-cache needs to be built...this take a few minutes to do, but it is a one-time thing (unless you move to another rom or wipe your dalvik-cache).

Its not like the developers left along time ago. All of them pushed out a final release before they left, and it was only 2 devs.
Also, they all run smoother then stock. Have you tried damagecontrol? Or try ANY of the overclocked roms. You can get OC on any rom now with separate flashable kernels.
Darchdroid is also the most basic rom you can use, but not basic in the area of customization. Its the only rom not built on htc framework, so there is close to zero bloat and it runs extremely smooth.

I am running Darchdroid and recommend you do too. It is faster than the most fastidious fast rom.
I don't wanna put anyone out there and I can't really remember the specific ones I tried but one that stood out was here

Everyone kept saying great things about a "fresh" rom so I figured that was it. When I used it the thing ran slow, my camera didn't work, and my picture messages wouldn't come in.
I was going to use another one but, I just thought it was a relatively new phone so maybe there wasn't sufficient work done yet

Yeah, I am going to agree. As far as overall speed, Darchdroid is the best. I'm also partial to Launcherpro over the included ADWLauncher. I have 7 homescreens full of stuff and it still runs fine.
Which version of Fresh did you use? I've had some issues with the earlier 2.x versions, but it's been pretty stable since 2.0d.
EDIT: FreshToast...I've ran that one for the longest time. The only time it would go slow on me is when I jacked with the settings in SetCPU.

Sorry if I stepped on any toes but, I just tried a couple and got results that where no where near the instantaneous difference you got in the WinMo world. Maybe I should have stuck with it for a while longer....
I did have a little info up on Facebook but I REFUSE to twitter!! LMAO The contacts I have are numerous so maybe that's a contributing factor. I'm not sure. I really wanted a Froyo rom but, from what I understand, it's still in Beta.
I really just want something fast and reliable. I often use my bluetooth for HOURS on end so something less harsh on the battery would also be extremely helpful.
I will try whatever suggestions you guys have. I know you have been in the Android world way longer than me. I had XDAndroid on my TP but this is a dramatic difference.

I don't see how I could have "done it wrong" I mean it's pretty self explanatory. I opened the camera app and got a broken TV set in purple and blue on my screen. Everything else worked....just slowly. Maybe a bad download.....maybe. I don't know. But how could someone possibly flash wrong and still get it to run? That makes no sense.

You need to make sure you wipe in recovery before flashing a new ROM. It sounds like that could possibly be the issue.

Yes. Wipe data, dalvik-cache, and sd-ext if you have one.
Flash the custom ROM. When it loads sign into your gmail and give it 5ish minutes to synch your calendar/contacts/mail from the cloud. Once that is completed, you'll want to head to the market and grab "overclock widget" and make sure you're clocked to appropriate speeds.
From then on, the speed improvement should be obvious.

[Q] Should I root my Captivate? Which ROM is the best?

I'm going to get my Captivate in the mail tomorrow and was doing some research on the Android OS and the way AT&T locks some of the features of the phone.
Should I wait for Android 2.2 to come out or should I get a ROM on my phone? Also, is it possible to delete the AT&T apps (bloatware) without rooting? I have a 32gb class 4 microSD card if that helps with anything. Thanks.
Can anyone recommend something?
I would say keep up with the SRE thread. Its really great as far as mods go and @designgears is on top of his game. Other than that, I'd say wait on 2.2

To answer your other question you can not remove bloatwear without rooting. Rooting is easy as there is a one click root/unroot process which is stickied in the dev section. Right now the best ROM is Eugene's Vibrant Hybrid because its an actual ROM. What designgears puts out is more removal of bloatwear with some added features that ATT did not included in the captivate as well as including overclock and a lag fix which you install. To me that is not a ROM but it is a very good product which as of late has gone under many changes. Research, research, research before you do anything. Read all 300 pages of any thread because it is not all just banter, lots of good info in those threads.

Wow, I guess I'm going to turn myself into an Android expert now by reading these threads. The reason why I was hesitant on installing a ROM was that there were some problems people described, such as tethering being disabled or the phone having problems loading some apps or software, etc. Thanks a lot for the info.

Nope. but anyway: My opinion on trying other roms: I tried 2 roms. the leaked 2.2. was good for a little while, played around with flash, kinda laggy still, but its a leaked version, so whatever. Then i changed to "Tayutama's JPM Froyo w/Xcaliburinhand's Re-oriented Kernel" Next day, back to stock. Too many problems, custom roms are being updated constantly, more buggy than official releases. well at least the ones i always get, so back to stock Rooted. Sideloading enabled. And LOVING IT! I'm just gonna wait til the official froyo release, flash is great, but i never really used it as much as i thought i would. as long as you have root, sideloading, bloatware removal, and lagfix, i think you got yourself a damn good phone.

I would recommend running his beta 2.2. It makes the phone run a LOT better. Fixed a ton of issues that I was experiencing.
But.. it is pretty hit or miss on his builds... Usually I wait until after the whole number release (i.e. 9.1 vs. 9) so the initial bugs are figured out and fixed.
Froyo on this phone with the tweaks DG has been doing are phenomenal. But then.. I'm impatient and don't mind flashing the crap out of this thing.
And to answer the OP. Rooting does not affect your AT&T voice/data plan. It does affect your warranty. Anything that can be used to circumvent the "lockdown" that AT&T and Samsung has on the phone will do that.
So... Rooting, removing "bloatware", flashing ROMS are all a big no-no if you still want to be within the EULA and Warranties with both AT&T and Samsung.

That does sound like good advice, but that would still be too much loading roms for me. It went from the 1st beta to beta 9 all in less than 1 month. It's great because the work is getting better and better faster but i'm not the type that likes flashing new roms every week, once it gets out of beta i think i can deal with it. I'm working with stock 2.1, root, sideloading, lagfix, GPS working fine (don't really use it that much to begin with) and I can't complain, its a great phone.
What is SRE? A previous post mentioned to keep up with the SRE thread and then mentions @designgears. Is that the designgears' "[ROM]Cognition v2.2 BETA9.1.1 (Voodoo - CogKernel - Bootanimation)" thread they are referring to? I used the "Search Forum" tool and that was the first thing that came up.
Many times when people refer to newbies (like myself) to "look up this/that" or "try this/that", they use acronyms and its difficult to find what exactly they are referring to.

Can a ROM make my phone quicker?

Can I do something to make my phone faster.

A custom ROM will make your phone run faster. There are you can tweak the build.prop and other things like scripts to improve the phone as well. Right now I just flashed the Mokee v1.0 ROM and it is the best ROM I have ever used on this phone. I would definitely recommend getting a CM7 ROM as long as you don't care about 3D and HDMI as they are broken currently with CM7.
I find the phone quite snappy, but then again I'm coming from a Samsung Epic. That phone was good but is getting very long in the tooth. I'm using Thrillseeker 2.1 on mine and so far I can say yes, it does improve the phone's speed. Next on the to try list is CM7(which is downloading on my phone as we speak). It's a boring day at work, might as well be productive, right?

A custom ROM will make your phone run faster. There are you can tweak the build.prop and other things like scripts to improve the phone as well. Right now I just flashed the Mokee v1.0 ROM and it is the best ROM I have ever used on this phone. I would definitely recommend getting a CM7 ROM as long as you don't care about 3D and HDMI as they are broken currently with CM7.

hi dude can you explain further about that scripts and how to usw that? tnx a lot dude
Actually, I've been fighting this for a while.
Sometimes the phone is blazing, other times it chugs like molasses.
I've slowly chipped away at the issues, because it's obvious not everybody has these issues, but considering how many times I've tried custom ROMs and kernels, and nothing fixes it, it has to be something I'm running.
Over time, I got rid of Folder Organizer, because that seemed to make it chug. The device seems to have very little RAM and it goes REALLY slow when it's close to full. I also tried things like deleting the downloaded files for the GameLoft titles to speed up the media search on boot. (Less files searched, less RAM used, right?)
Recently one change I made that seemed to help IMMENSELY was uninstalling SwiftKey. I'd LOVE if I could get some help confirming. The circle-swipe to unlock seems much smoother, even after a day, after getting rid of SwiftKey. I'm guessing it just used too much RAM.
At this point, I'd be at a lost otherwise. I changed launchers and used CPU monitors to see what's using up all the CPU, but came up empty.
Additionally, if you haven't tried using Seeder, I'd install that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032

[Q] Why is it soooooo slow?!?!

I came from a Nexus 5 with ART enabled and it was SOOOOO much faster and more responsive than my Nexus 6. Yes, I know that the Nexus 6 has that god aweful encryption crap, but even the benchmarks with it on show it as being faster. I am running stock, barely have any apps installed, have animation speeds at .5, and yet I lag hardcore even when Im just typing. I havent been on a device this laggy since my Galaxy S2.......Is there anything I can do? Or am I SOL until they release a fix?
Hmm strange I have never noticed lag when typing seems like an everyday thing to do, your not thermal throttled by any chance are you??

Not that Im aware of.......I REALLY dont want to root my device (yes I know, then why have android). I like the stock experience, and I used to root all the time but I got SO sick of all the bugs in roms
I know what you mean with not wanting to root, I was adamant wasn't rooting..lasted a day.
^ you lasted longer than I did. 5 hours.
I made it a few days without root, but ultimately succumbed...
Still stock ROM and encrypted though. My N6 flies. No lags anywhere. I let a co-worker handle the beast over the weekend, he has a Note 3. He liked how smooth and fluid Lollipop is.
I can only suggest OP is experiencing a software problem of sorts. Perhaps something was installed which is hogging resources in the background. Maybe even a factory reset is in order.

I am guessing this. the only lag I ever saw was when first opening an app. such as shown in this video:

my n6 is very slow compared to my n5. I have animations to 0.5x and encryption off. is a software problem ?? the display resolution ??
changing animations 0.5 does not work....its very frustrating

Rooting your device doesn't change what "ROM" you have, it simply gives you write/edit capabilities to system files.
You can root and boot and you will notice zero changes. And of course your N5 was running ART - that's lollipop's only runtime.
Wait I thought the recent software update improved the speed of the device, or not? Did I mishear something?
Mine is faster than my SD805 G3 that I had. Its also faster in most ways than my Nexus 9 was. It depends on what you are running, even stock it was extremely smooth.
Try a factory reset. It may help.

if this doesn't help, you may have to flash the factory img again.
but in all reality, you shouldn't rely so much on arbitrary benchmark numbers. everyone's is different based on what they have on their phone, just like measuring screen on time as a good mark for battery life.
Didnt help, still the same speeds.......and I dont rely on them, but my phone has been SUPER slow.........UGhhh this sucks. Anyone else on stock? Wanna run Androbench and post your results? Im wondering If I have a bad device and need to get it swapped? I already did that once.....Grrrrrrrr
Mine is about the same as your results but I don't notice any lags
