Hello...
Recently my home button stopped working on my phone and after searching the net and various forums, I have seen that people with the same problem have done wipes and fixed their issue. I'm trying to see if I can do a complete wipe to see if the home button will work again for me. The only problem is that I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 and whenever I get to the recovery console, select Alt+W, it asks me to hit the home button to confirm the wipe... once again, my home button doesn't work so I can't do that. Is there any way that I can wipe my phone through the terminal emulator?
Just a thought... flash Koush's recovery. It does not ask you to confirm.
Also, isn't there an option to wipe from the settings? Menu->Settings->SD card & phone storage->Factory data reset.
Good luck.
I assume this was already fixed, but just wanted to chime in and offer my own experience.
My home button stopped working randomly, I don't know what caused it to stop. Tried rebooting and that didn't solve anything. Then tried booting into recovery mode by holding the home key down. It worked so I knew the actual button worked. Did the wipe from settings like described above. That didn't work, so I was about to reflash the ROM. I realized I didn't have a backup ROM in the root of my SD card so I just rebooted normally after a full wipe from recovery. It worked.
tl;dr-> use alt+w in recovery if possible.

My home button has stopped working on my dream. It happened when I re-flashed cyanogen 4.04 after accidentally installing the latest cyanogen experimental rom (as I didn't realise my settings in cm updater were set to show experimental roms aswell as stable) since then my home button will not work. Its very frustrating having to use the back button and go through every sub menu of an app to get home. Also I can't enter recovery mode.
Has the home button stopped working for anyone else and is there a way to repair it?
Also is there any way of entering recovery mode without the home button?
All help will be appriciated
This happened to me I just wiped my phone and it began to work again.
I can't get into recovery mode to perform a wipe. Or is there another way that doesn't involve holding home and power to enter recovery?
You can do through settings under the sd and storage menu
Or go to Terminal Emulator and enter the following to reboot into recovery:
su
reboot recovery
If reflashing or wiping doesn't work, then you'll probably have to go to bootloader and flash to the original bootloader and dreaimg.nbh, then get it replaced under warranty.
Thank you. Wipe and reflashing cm 4.04 worked great. Home button works again!

Would this method work on the htc hero cdma as well I have the same problem, and am looking for a way to fix this...
Only one way to find out go into your terminal and type
su
reboot recovery
if you get in error then it didn't work
if takes you to your recovery then it did and then wipe and reinstall the rom you want.
Hi.
I was on JP3 and tried to flash JPC. Everything went fine, but my apps go crazy untill I did factory reset. BUT! in recovery mode (volup+home+pwr) I was not able to select data wipe/factory reset, was no reaction after I hit home button on menu. So, I did factory reset via android menu.
Soon I realized that there is huge problem with Home button even after factory reset . And right now my Home button does not work at all (althouth, I think this is not mechanical problem, because it "clicks" properly).
Tried downgrade to JM7 -- same results.
Tried again JP3 -- same results
Quick search here and other all web does not gives any results ;(
Any thoughts?
Ir happened to me also. Try doing a full wipe and formating the internal card . Then flash the jpc again and everything should go fine.
How I can do full wipe if in recovery menu I cant select anything by hitting Menu button?

In the phone format internal sd.
Put it in download mode flash with odin using re-partition
Done
I'l give it a try in few minutes... That will be quite strange for me if that helps.. But at least I have a hope now..
nope (((((((((
Tried to flash JPC with 803 pit file and using re-partition. Home button still not working at all (neither in android, neither in recovery menu).
Tried to do factory data reset in android -- also, nothing .
Also I have noticed what I can go in Download mode just by hitting vol-down + pwr and in Recovery mode by vol-up + pwr. Without hitting Menu key! Is that normal?
Well, nothing helps
I even tried to flash JPC with 512.pit and using re-partition (somebody said that *.pit file is responsible for mapping devices?)
No result. No action after clicking Home key at all.
Seems to be hw problem.
Button didnt worked 2 days. But today completely suddenly (I even didnt reboot my phone!) start working! Not sure it works perfectly now, but very close to.
wondering will it stop function sometimes in the future or not .
sounds more like your button was stuck down.
Yep, now I tried -- download mode requires 3 buttons as well as recovery mode. While button was not working - just pressing voldown+pwr allowed me to get into download mode.
Anyway, I'm again able to apply upload.zip... yeeeeeeeeeeeah!!
OP how did you manage to get it working again ? i have the same issue but tried many atempts and it did not help
mind to share ?
tia
Id was fixed without my attention at all. I just managed it worked again once a morning.
Personally I beleive it was HW issue. For me it started worked again after 1 week or so. Thus, try wait a little . If it will not work -- visit SC.
thx op. i hope mine will "magically" work again. if not then i might try to buy a home button and crack open my sgs wohooooo
i went all the way to flash a stock jm1 and then the upgrade to 2.2 and loaded the super kernel but along the way no luck for me so i just gotta wait.
ah maybe you guys might laugh at me i also did the hairdryer trick but did not workout for me

Same problem...
1 month today without my home button working.
Hi All - while in the process upgrading from the previous version of MIUI to this latest one, I accidentally selected the 'restart system option after formatting the system, cache and data without flushing the new ROM and now the phone won't boot up. It goes to the main Galaxy S screen followed by Galaxy S Glitch screen then it runs some coding (in seconds so i don't know what is says) and then back to main Galaxy screen in a loop.
What I have tried
> Going to recovery mode with vol up + home + power button (released @ first Samsung Screen) but then it goes back to second Galaxy S Glitch screen in the same loop.
> Going to download mode with vol down + home + power button and it does the same as going into recovery mode.
> Tried to do go into recovery and download mode multiple times using different combinations of vol up, vol down, home and power button without success.
> Read through the threads here but I was not able to find anything with the same or similar problem problem
> I tried to follow the help provided by Thyrador on this forum

> Connecting phone to ODIN keeps on going rebooting in the phone in a loop as well.
I know if I can go into recovery mode I will be able to flush the new ROM but getting there is the problem.
I would appreciate your help with this and hope there is a fixable solution.

I have done that a few times and both CWM and download mode should be there.
Make sure everytime you try the 3 buttons you actually remove the battery before trying.
K.
Edit: the coding you are talking about is CWM trying something and that's shy I think it is still there.
Did you just format system?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Thanks for your response
I actually formatted the system, data and cache without flushing the new ROM.
I tried what you said about removing the battery but that didn't show anything on the screen when I tried the 3 buttons. Is that what you meant?
cheers

What I meant was a bit dumb as since you have a bootoop you would have removed the battery anyway each time to try.
I normally flash the same way like you and I always do a factory reset (which formats Data and cache and I do the system manually. Unless soemthing has gone seriously wrong I don't see why you would not be able to get back to recovery?
I have even done it today actually and managed to go back to recovery.
I would say try and boot into download mode. Did you use Download Mode in the past? Are you sure it is there?
I read somewhere else someone saying that it does not always work the first time. Give it a few tries.
Your last option would be the JIG obviously but hopefully you should be able to get it sorted without.
K.
To tell you the truth I always use an app to boot the phone into recovery or download mode however one of my work colleagues has always being able to reboot my phone into any of these modes using the three buttons - not sure how. I will continue to try anyway.
Thanks again for your response and for give me hope that this has happened to you in the past.
cheers
Hey you guys if you are having trouble getting into recovery mode using the hardware keys use these instructions..
Master reset with hardware keys
If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.
To perform a master reset with the hardware keys, follow these steps.
Power off the device.
At the same time, press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys until the LG logo appears.
When the LG logo appears, quickly release the Power key and press and hold it again.
Release all keys when the Factory data reset screen appears.
Use the Volume keys to select Yes and then press the Power key to confirm.
For there it should take you to your custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) I used this tip yesterday and it worked for me, I had used TWRP to restore my phone.. (It's my first time using TWRP and I'm really liking it so far)
Anyways have a good one you guys, be sure to leave a like for me thanks.
Didn't work so well for me. It actually performed a data wipe, giving me a fresh install of CM11. Glad I backed up first.

Change to one of the newer recoveries. Factory reset has been deactivated because of the key combos needed to enter recovery.
Hi,
I'm using an One M7 with latest OTA stock rom (5.0.2 with Sense 6.0 and kernel 3.4.10-g6388905) and it "loses" my wifi passwords after some hours after booting. The password entry in the connect list is then empty and it is not possible to enter a password there. I then have to reboot and then for some hours all passwords are there (without reentering them!) and Wifi works. The next day it is unable to log into Wifi.
Sometimes even the telephone is unable to make a call then.
I tried a soft reset, but it doesnt helps.
Is the only way to factory reset it? Are there newer stock roms, than the one I already got via OTA? It came after the last OTA, I think.
I don't want to miss Sense, and as I found there are no working Android 6 roms out...(even without Sense not).
Regards,
Stefan
Hi,
I did a complete factory reset and now its the same...
Has anybody any idea to not throw it away?
I found out, that sometimes activating the Wifi Hotspot and then deactivativating it (when it is not completely on, which doesn't work then) and activating Wifi works again ithout the reboot. But this doesn't do the trick always.
Stefan
Has no one any idea what to do?
Updating firmware?
Man I dont think anyone's alive in this forum. You can see if it's an app doing it by booting into safe mode. But you should just wipe the cache. So turn off phone. Hold volume down and power button until you get the boot loader. In boot loader scroll down using the volume button to recovery. Then press power button to select. The screen will go black but wait it will eventually boot into recovery. Then scroll down to delete cache. Hit power button. Scroll to reboot, hit power button and you are done. See if that works. If not in recovery you can do a REAL factory reset. Good luck.
