Did you root it again after you get 2.2? that's why you wanna unroot?? My understanding is that once you flash the firmware, the root is gone too.
nope my phone was rooted when i updated it but after the update apps said that it wasnt rooted anymore, so i tried rooting it again, that didnt work and the kernel version says root so that why i want to unroot, i want root 2.2
solved
installed SuperOneClick root and it worked thanks anyways

[Q] question about flashing custom roms for milestone

hello
i have few questions that i couldn't find answers for , i hope you can help me
i have a little experience with rooting and flashing custom roms on the HTC G1, and i have been reading about milestone since i bought 1 and i wanna root it and install a custom rom on it ..
first of all , from my experience with the G1 , if there is a mismatch between the SPL and Radio , the cellphone will get bricked . here (for the milestone) i didn't see anyone mentioning those things .. all they say is install openRecovery and then flash etc .. so (just to make sure) isn't there any such threat as the G1's ?
another question is , as i saw in the guides , i need RSD Lite to root the milestone and then install open recovery .. when i rooted my G1 and installed a recovery i used "universal androot" and "ROM manager" from market to root and install recovery (and then continued from the recovery to flash custom rom) , is it possible to do the same for the milestone ?
last question, i live in israel , do i have to do anything special (do something with the radio or anything else) to get my milestone working properly here ?
thanks

1- There is no chance of bricking the Milestone by flashing the wrong radio.
2- You can use Universal And Root to root the Milestone, but ROM Manager WILL brick your phone.
3- What you can do is flash the 2.2 vulnerable recovery from android.doshaska.net/rootable and then put OpenRecovery on your SD Card, and root the phone via OR. After that you flash your custom ROM. I believe there is already an Israel baseband in OR, that you can use to flash in Change Baseband in OR.

[Q] installing custom rom from stock 2.1?

OK, this will be the last question(s) from a noob.
Here's the thing. I recently rooted my X8, installed xRecovery, and also installed Busybox.
I want to install a new custom rom onto my phone and I have searched everywhere for an answer (of which there are many. But very contradictive of each other).
Here are my questions:
Do I have to go back to 1.6 to get the new rom, or can I stay on my current 2.1?
Do I have to install Clockwork Mod Recovery to install the custom rom (which is CM6)?
If the above is true, then how do I put it on my phone after I have already have xRecovery?
How do I get the rom installed on my phone using xRecovery?
And finally. The intended roms zip file says something along the line of update-froyobread.zip. Do I have to install the original CM6 rom on first and then put the intended rom on after? Or can I just install the rom by itself?
I know this question is very noobish but I hope you can be patient and help me...
Thanks in advance.
first you dinĀ“t need to go back to 1.6
second you not need cwm recovery
and about the rom you need to follow the instructions in the post of the rom
and you need baseband finished in 15
Thank you I'll give it a go!

Install CWM, Zeus ROM on v20a

Hello. I am trying to install CWM on my p970, but it says: permission dienied. And I know why. Because it's not rooted. I want to install Zeus ROM, but I can't, cause I don't have CWM. Maybe someone knows how to install custom ROM without root.

Yes, I have stock ROM 20A
NO ROOTING = NO ZEUS
if u are NOT rooted, then u cannot install CWM...downgrade 2 froyo, root it and then install the 20N Repackaged/Zeus v1, whichever u want
downgrading to the v10 would be temporary as u wud root it immediately and install back zues/20N....i do it almost regularly (yes, i brick my phone pretty often ).
for a backup,i have v10D and the CMD scripts for rooting (via blackjack) and installing CWM.
hope i helped
you have to downgrade to V10 (with SmartFlash Tool) then root that version and use Recovery to Flash with Zip File!!
