X1 buttons problem - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone maybe you can shed some light on a problem I have been having with my xperia.
everything works perfectly fine with no complaints except for one thing thats really starting to bother me. If I leave the device on with MSN Messenger running for any period of time, eventually the device goes into standby mode and all the buttons become unresponsive. The phone itself is still on but all the hardware keys (including keyboard and power button) become unresponsive resulting in an inability to wake the device back up and forcing me to take out the battery and restart the device that way. Some times it will happen before it goes into standby mode and the touchscreen will still be operational but none of the physical buttons. Anyone else had this problem? what can I do to fix this?

Strange (and a little worriesome) behavior on my G1

Tonight my G1 displayed some very odd behavior. It was running normally and I pressed the power button to make it sleep and I set it aside. About half an hour later I picked it up and tried to turn it on by pressing menu. The phone gave no response other than lighting up the five buttons on the bottom. I tried sliding the keyboard out and the keyboard lit up as well, but the display remained black. Plugging it in via USB to my computer did absolutely nothing (no sounds, no notification light, etc.), and I got the same result when I plugged it into the charger. I finally decided to take the battery out in order to turn the phone off, and then put it back in and pressed the power button. The phone booted up normally, and now everything seems to be working in proper order. I am slightly concerned, however, as I have never had this behavior in the year that I have owned my G1. I am running Cyanogen 4.1.999 with the Hard SPL boot loader. I am unsure whether this behavior has anything to do with the mod and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar. I do realize that if my phone is bricked it is my fault, and I want to determine if this was simply a freak accident or if I need to do something differently with the phone.
first of all if your phone was bricked you wouldn't be able to use it. as for your problem it doesnt sound too serious so if i were you i wouldn't worry about it. but if it does happen again reflash your phone and if it happens after that, pitch it to cyanogen to see if there is a problem with the rom.
I do realize that it isn't bricked now, but I am worried that this behavior could mean that I am pushing the phone too hard. I am mostly curious as to whether or not anyone else has experienced similar behavior from their G1.
Turn off compatibility mode in spare parts.
don't worry this is a common problen It happens to me all the time any hero I flash plays nice for about a day. and then boom no problems with cyan!
I had the same problem, but unfortunately my G1 is still not working properly.
In the morning, turning off the alarm I left the phone for 5 minutes. An attempt to turn it on did not work: there was no reaction on display, although the buttons were lighting up. I restarted phone taking the battery out and now I have following:
- keyboard fully closed: no reaction/black display, buttons are lighted up
- keyboard open: I can do everything: change ROM/make call/write messages/Internet/GPS/... - everything what is possible to do with rooted G1
- keyboard partially open (visible only lowest row with such buttons as ALT, SHIFT, SPACE): similar to 'open' but with changed orientation
Can anyone help/advise? Did almost everything: ROM changed, full wipe, recovery

Power Button- slow?

i noticed recently that if i press the power button, it sometimes takes a really long time to turn the screen on. i know the hardware works because the backlight in the soft buttons turns on immediately, but the screen remains black for up to 10 seconds. this happens rarely. however, im fairly sure it isnt a software problem because ive wiped completely and installed a fresh rom and the problem seems to persist. perhaps i just recently noticed, and the problem was always there? does anyone else have this problem?
three threads above yours.

could be a hardware issue.
Mine does this every few days.. I am still on the stock 2.1 rom.
Mine also does this, I only noticed it after flashing Cyanogenmod 5.0.6. so I thought it might have been a bug. I also assumed it was a bug because the phone seems to act strangely when you are touching the screen and try to hit the power button.
Hopefully this isn't a hardware issue, I've had the phone since release.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?
It happens to me as well, but very infrequently. Maybe every few days... so it doesn't bother me enough to worry about it.
I'm on stock ROM btw.
I am leaning towards thinking this may be software related. A few minutes ago I was at the lock screen and tried about 50 times (yes I waited long enough after each press) and simply could not get the screen to turn off. I then tried long pressing the power button and, sure enough, each time it would bring up the shutdown menu (yes, over the lock screen). Must be a bug right?
Hmm, my problem's slightly different. Around half of the time, I have to press the power button twice to turn the screen on. Sometimes, pressing it the first time doesn't turn the screen on, had to press the power button firmly again.
This started only recently. On stock n1 and bought it during feb.
that means that your power button is dying, like many others' (including mine)
this is the first time, it takes 2 clicks to work....than it will increase.
Expect a repair soon...
Well i am having the issue other way around. i am not been able to put my phone in stand by mode by clicking on it and it is do a hard press then i get options to shut off the phone
any suggestions what might be causing it ?
I'm happy I haven't received this problem yet

I am having the same issue and i wonder if you were able to find the cause for it. I have the same rom as you do on your phone

I have a similar problem. When I unplug the N1 from the charger, the screen comes on showing the lock screen, and I can't get it to turn off. If I unlock the phone, however, then the power button works normally. I don't think it was doing this until recently (I bought it in January the first day it was offered and am running the stock update1 ROM).
So here is my theory if the power button is a problem then it needs to act up both ways and not only one way. right now i can put the phone in sleep mode but i can wake it up. i will post the issues on the development forum and might be able to find an asnswer to it
So seems like the issues is because of Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 because since i have flashed another rom it is working just fine. i will be doing some more testing before i can be certain
Another problem I am experiencing is when I long press the power button, it pulls up the phone options menu but also turns off the screen. It's extremely frustrating as it does this quite frequently; right after I power on the screen again and unlock the device it works properly every time - so much so that I am convinced this is a software issue.
I am now running froyo, rooted with Cyan's minor root patch. I can also say for sure I experienced the same problem on CM 5.0.6, but it definitely occurred less frequently.
Am I alone here?

I just started having this problem after upgrading to 2.2.
I have this every so often. But sometimes wonder if it is flyscreen doing it
You guys should all just be running the app no lock to take the power autumn out of the equation.
Ahhhhh! I just need trackball wakeup!
I have a similar issue where my screen will turn on but will be unresponsive. When i turn it on and off, the backlight jut comes and goes. If it times out it won't turn back on for a bit(the backlight will come on still).
I just wiped my phone, hoping that'll fix it since it only started happening on a regular basis since I updated to Froyo

Buttons Not Working and severe battery Drain

Hi hope someone can help. Over the weekend my TD2 started playing up. All of the hardware buttons apart from the on/off button have stopped working. I also notice that if I turn the screen off with a short tap of the on/off button, after a few seconds it comes back on again. All touch screen functions are ok. It also appears to be draining the battery very quickly, to the extent that fully charged at bedtime (no bluetooth or wifi on and a stable 3-4 bar signal) it will be comppletely drained by morning. As far as I am aware the phone has not gotten wet at all.
I have also re-installed the office HTC rom, which made no difference
Any ideas??
So you reinstalled the stock rom and did a hard reset?
You can try Tarkim's Keyboard controller and see if your hardware keys can be mapped to a different function.
That would help eliminate hardware vs software issues.
I have the same problem. Also my backlight keeps working and won't go off. Can't perform a hard reset because my volume buttons(and all other hardbuttons accept the on/off) aren't working.
Searched for the solution but can't find it anywhere. Who can help me?

Try clear storage app to HR.
Thanks for your reaction.
Yesterday I managed to put an official ROM on my phone.(latest from HTC site).
Problem only got worser. Phone gets complety stuck(directly after boot) in the volume screen. Sometimes its flashes back to the normal screen but only for 1 second. Buttons still aren't working so can't do anything with my phone right now( not even the hard reset methode you told me).
Started to think that this is really some hardware issue. Can't remember that water got in my phone or the phone felt really hard. Any solutions maybe?
Otherwise I think I just go to the store.

One last thing you can try is a Task29 explained here.
Use your official rom (right click on .exe and extract the RUU_Signed.nbh and place in task29 folder, then connect device in Bootloader mode and run the Task29.exe. Follow the instructions in the link.

[Q] my htc one cant be turned on after deep sleep

My HTC one developer edition won’t wake up after deep sleep the screen does not turn on i have tried to press power button and volume down and no response except for flashing back and home buttons. When I call my phone I can hear a tone from the other phone but no response from the HTC one. I have also tried to hold the power button and the only response was flashing of the touch buttons. I tried to connect it to my PC it appear in device manager but if i tried any command (no device found). alsoI noteced that when i connect it to the charger no orange or green LED lights
Any advice would be helpfull.
Try holding power and volume down pressed while holding a bright light directly over the proximity sensor
wow It worked !!
thanks a lot dgtiii
But do you have any idea why did this happen ?

Awesome, I'm glad it worked! Sometimes the proximity sensor is buggy it seems. The feature is there to prevent accidental touches from turning the phone on if it's in a pocket or purse or something - if the sensors sees darkness, it will not allow the phone to turn on. Sometimes this feature is buggy or it sticks, and the bright light positively tells the proximity sensor the phone is not in a pocket and should turn on or reboot.
Exact same issue as the original poster, exact same resolution.
Thanks for the help. That was an exceedingly unexpected cause. I am curious as to how/why exactly it is so buggy, would anyone happen to know?
EDIT: I am curious if temperature might be related actually. I have had the phone for nearing a year, but this is the first time I have had it where the local temperatures have dropped below freezing, and my phone was indeed quite cold when I picked it up, but that could have been related to it being off as to this issue, it was on the charger, which traditionally keeps it fairly warm regardless. The phone itself has been rebooted a couple of times since I got it, lost power twice, but has not been off or rebooted in weeks before this, as is general for my usage.

Capacitive keys randomly stop working

Hey guys, does anyone else have the issue that hardware keys randomly stop working, especially after a wake-up, and they randomly start working again? It feels like the process for these keys sometimes hangs itself for a while.

That happens to me every once in a while, and has ever since I've owned the phone back in the kitkat days. Just press the power button to lock the screen and unlock it again. Fixes it for me.
Yes thats what i say, iam aware that Power off/on fixes it but i thought that there may be a fix for it. The software of this phone is running so amazingly well that this little bug is quite annoying
And with Android 6 came a new bug, it takes now 5 seconds to switch to front camera. I dont know if others have this aswell.
