Your help is appreciated - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
I loaded Stock Cupcake ROM (Tmobile) to my Rogers HTC Dream. How can i set up my phone now cause i dont have a TMobile Sim Card and i dont have a data plan. Ive seen something where you change the APN Settings and then u sign in. Would this work if i had a Rogers Sim with a G1 data plan. I got the Cupcake ROM from Droiddog.com. Can anyone just tell me how to go through the setup cause now i have a rogers phone with T Mobile Cupcake Rom.
Thanks Guys!!

...wait what, so you have a roger dream...with a t-mobile stock rom? It would work though, press menu on the "login" screen for gmail.

are you pretty sure this would work i found a guide on it
( i cant post a URL cause im a newbie member dam but i got a guide called How to Setup T-Mobile G1 on EDGE on Rogers/Fido when you type it into google)
If i put in the rogers apn and i got my friends Rogers SIM card with an HTC Dream or G1 Data Plan , would it work?
Thanks a bunch dude!

Yes it would, you'd be able to get passed sign up with a data plan on the sim card.

thank you so much dude
you have no idea how much youve helped
Also, after going through setup, can i revert back to Rogers Stock ROM

No problem. I have no idea about your second question, wait out a day and see if you get a "update" pop-up. I think there is also an update feature in settings(press menu) look around there

is my phone still rooted if i have T Mobile Rom. Also, any ideas why i cant revert back to RC29? I get the 00280008 error not allow
Thanks a bunch!

Oh your rooted? Did you format your sd card into fat32 and place Dreaming.nbh on it?(this has to be the only file on it I believe) Try formatting again.

ya i did that with 3 diffrent 2gb memory cards but evrey time i get the error not allow then i got back to the colorful screen. It is FAT32 and just yesterday i bought a new memory card to try it out. IS it because of the Cupcake rom? Thanks

I'm afraid I can't help you as much as the other members, try searching up how to root a Rogers HTC G1 on google or around the forum. Some may have the same problem as you, or we're just missing a step.

k thanks a bunch bro

Always a pleasure sorry I couldn't help you out more. A lil reading never hurt . I don't have a Rogers Dream so I wouldn't know too much.

any ideas if i can upload the original Rogers ROM it came withon my phone through a zip file(like i uploaded T Mobile 1.5 ROM)

Help a Noob with G1 and no SIM card

Hey gang,
I got an old messed up G1 from a friend. He gave it to me with no SIM card and it has been wiped to factory settings. I am not on T-Mobile and i just want to play around with Android. I have booted the G1 to a screen that says "NO SIM CARD" "No SIM card in phone". How can i bypass this screen? I just want to get to Android and i'll use WiFi to download apps from the market.
If i need to flash it with a different ROM... please advise me with a link to the ROM with detailed instructions as I have never used any tools for an android phone.
Thank you in advance!

G1 Problems with the Phone Please Help!!

Hi,
Well last night i got a Rogers HTC dream (proud owner of an android phone)
After trying to use CM Updater, i managed to softbrick my phone. I used the dreamimg.nbh to restore the phone but it was a T Mobile one. Now evreytime i boot up i see T-Mobile. Its a Rogers HTC Dream but its running on T Mobile Firmware. Is this a problem after unlocking the phone(meaning will it destroy the unlock) and will i have any problems? I was wondering if this would be a problem. What guide should i use to root my HTC Dream if it is running on 1.5 Cupcake T Mobile Release(got it from droiddog.com) if i want to root and run cyanogenmod. I dont mind if i have to use the bad cupcake rom but how can i get through the setup if i have a Fido Sim card and im on pay as you go. I can get a sim with data from a friend if that works. Thanks guy
PS: I am very newb when it comes to android its my second day and i already screwed my phone
Your help is greatly appreciated
anyone please help

You didn't need to use the drea file, you could have wiped then flashed the rom again. your phone will still be unlocked even if you change to a diff rom.

[Q] SIM card Disaster!...

Alright, so I have lost track of the # of hours I have spent trying to solve this problem. I have a Samsung Captivate originally purchased from Rogers, and a Rogers Sim card. I flashed a custom rom onto my captivate, which was good but still gave me some problems. I somehow ended up when clearing something in the rom getting into a bootloop, so I could no longer access my phone.
I used Odin to go back to stock, but my phone gives me the "no sim card in phone" issue. I checked by putting another sim into my phone..same issue, and I put my sim in another phone...and it works fine..so it is not my sim card. I did *#7465625#
and Network Lock is on. I even flashed to Rogers froyo rom, since I am using a rogers sim card, but still get that problem. None of the market tools for unlocking the phone give me any codes...what should I do..?
The SGS Unlock tool from the market won't work on Froyo, as far as I know (I haven't bothered checking to see if it has been updated in the past few months, but it was a 2.1 only thing the last time I checked.)
There is a froyo unlock procedure in the development section. Have you tried using that after flashing your Rogers rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831569
Edit: Oh yeah, make absolutely sure you back up /efs before you do anything, or you'll have your face ripped off if the procedure doesn't work for you.
Helroz has put out an app on the market to unlock 2.1 and 2.2 phones Havent tried it yet.... worth a shot...
kind of confused. I mean, I originally purchased my phone from Rogers, and my Sim is from Rogers. I am not sure if it was always locked to rogers, but it just says "no service" and doesn't recognize that I have a rogers sim card. even if network lock is on, shouldn't it still recognize my sim? The methods you have posted have not worked for me. Perhaps I should see if I can get an unlock code from Rogers themselves. If I could do that, would that solve the problem?
Also, if I somehow managed to get an unlock code for my phone, where would I enter it? Would I have to relock my phone to rogers? Could someone explain how I would do that?
Did you try a factory reset from the settings?

I have done a factory reset before, but i'll try doing it right now...see what happens.
ok I just did a factory reset...still telling me there is no sim inserted even though there is..any other ideas?
Alright so finally everything is showing as "OFF" including Network Lock but it still will not recognize my SIM. i did another factory reset but still no luck. Any other ideas??
What does it say in your APN Settings?
Can't access APN settings. infact, just going into "mobile networks" gives me "insert SIM card" even though it is already well-inserted
Sorry - I meant to say mobile networks - brain fart
[EDIT] The only thing i can think of would be to check the pins that contact the sim card... see if those somehow got damaged. Also check to ensure they are clean, blow out the sim card holder and if needed give the pins a wipe to clean them up and try again. If all else fails, try to get your hands on another sim from the same carrier and see if it works. If a different sim works, then yours is hosed most likely...
It's okay guys I managed to solve things in the end! thanks for all your help tho

I wonder...I just couldn't bring myself to pose the question
for self-pride(not that I have any left after spending god knows how many hours searching in a hex editor for non existent damn unlock codes) I refuse to state how i resolved my issue -______________-; (cough). but THANK YOU ALL for your support anyways! I have definitely definitely learned from this horrible mistake.
bet it was inserted backwards

[Q] Question about service drops?

Hey everyone im not sure if this is covered in another topic or forum but i recently started flashing roms on my Cappy(recently did assonance 5.2 and LOVE IT!) but right after i flashed this newest one i put i also got a hold of a tmobile sim card to go ahead and unlock my phone...now since ive done this at least 3-4 times a day i get the message "sim card removed. please reboot phone" or something like that...is anyone else having this problem and if so plz tell me how you fixed it or if this is in another forum post a link. Im kinda thinking i may just need a new sim card....
Could be a bad ROM flash. Backup apps and data, wipe and re-flash.

Do you use airplane mode a lot? I know some modems have an issue coming out of airplane and having SIM problems. Try flashing another modem. JK4 is known to be one of the more stable ones. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867309
Just flash the zip from CWM Recovery. (NOTE: These are for I9000 based roms like Assonance or Serendipity.)
Ok thats what i was thinking it could have been that but wasnt sure. Do you think re flashing my modem rom will fix it or will i need to reflash the whole rom? I have only tried 3 different modem roms and so far i like the tl3 since it has hsupa enabled...have you used jk4 alot? and how did it work for you?
Just to give you guys an update...i reflashed jk4 with CWM and ive only had the error message show up ONCE! So thanks for the help on that fellas. While im at it would you guys recommend any tweaks or anything to go with jk4 or assonance?

Yesterday dutch time 16:00 hours i had it back in my pocket, the t879, they did it...howe i dont know.
But...yes there is a but.
1) The t879 runs a i717 rom....and it has got no root acces, is that even possible?
But number 2) is there a conection between wifi turned on and the error called "no sim card"
In the 30hours i have it back most of the time @home (wifi on) "no sim card" and on the road (wifi off) no problem with the card.
Yesterday got myself a new sim card coz i had an old 1 that was 12 years old (dutch libertel ,former dutch vodafone) and i got the new micro sim card they told me it will take a couple of hours befor the new sim card be active...is it possible that coz it's weekend for vodafone that the new sim card wil be fully activated at monday when vodafone opens doors???
