I know roms are device specific, but what about themes?
it actually depends on the the theme. all update.zips for themes have apks in them that have been resigned with test keys. if the apks rely on certain frameworks or what not(which is the norm). the theme will have issues.
themes need to be made for the rom ur running. simple put... u might luck out and it work. but chances are it wont and or it will have major issues.

Thanks. I have been wondering since root if this was possible. I thought themes were just different system images replaced, but again and again I am proven wrong by more knowledgeable folk!
Thanks for your help; hopefully we get some themes soon.
Actually, it might not work because the ROM will try to connect your VZW number to Sprint towers. Does this make sense

No it doesnt. If u are connected to a cdma network u are either connected to a Sprint or Verizon tower always. They actually share towers under an agreement they made a few years back. To further answer ur question u could run fieldtest and see the exact tower u are connected to. U also have a msid msn and esn along with ur own cell number that decides what towers u are directed too.
But also this post has nothing to do with using a theme. A theme is nothing more then a modded frameworks and apks to present a different look. Ie colors fonts and artwork. Nothing to do with the network ur on
themes are built to a certain template. if the template does not match our eris template then no you will not be able to flash themes from the hero.
we're not making themes right now. so if you want to break apart the rom to look at the guts to make a template be our guest.

Hello everyone. I have been using a theme called enoch for cm5.0.8, white widow rom, and I love it. Its a dark theme with blue highlights. My question is there any way to port it to work with cm6? I am using kaosfroyo and would like to see if I can port some of the graphics. Any help? Thanks!

Switch file names to the one you want and resize. Thats all it takes. Ive ported from Hero/N1/DROID/G1 to our phones with just doing that and no issues when using MetaMorph.
Im not quite sure I follow you? Why would changing the name help? Also the maker of this theme only makes it flashable via recovery as of now. Is it possible to port it to metamorph?
by the way I am using your theme as of right now Kevlar. I like it alot!

Some times the file name might be different from G1 to the Eris. So then you have to rename it to the Eris file name. Easiest way to do it is to compare from an Eris ROM. Then you have to resize to our size.

Thank you. Glad you enjoy it.
I am really new to all of this. Can any theme at all be ported to our Eris? I would really like to have this one on mine running CM6.
The theme is on Droid-forums.net and is 24k Black glass by Cuttalott. I can not post links yet. Sorry. I do not believe posting that is any rules infractions, but I do not post here very often.
Being from Pittsburgh, it obviously would be right up my alley, but I don't think it is possible. He doesn't have it running yet on CM6, but his other ones are. Is this anyway possible or is it out of the capabilities of our device. Like I said, not trying to bother people here, just too new to know what can and can't be done.

Any theme can be ported. Just look into making MetaMorphs and compare file names and sizes. Its that easy. Only time consuming part is resizing.
Might wanna give this a shot hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737526
There us a theme porting script over in the main theme forum,i haven't had a chance to try it yet, but definitely plan on it

Is there any chance someone could port the theme found here:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745854 (I am a new user, can't post links)
over to the eris. I tried to see if it would work without changing anything and my phone got stuck in an endless boot-loop. I am in love with the theme. Thanks.
If you know how to mess with the sering and stuff with your computer I think the maker of white widow says how he got it to work on his rom in his thread, I might be wrong though.

The only thing working for me are the widget themes. When I try flashing anything else it puts my phone into a boot-loop, and the only way to fix it is to go into recovery and do a restore.
You do need Launcherpro plus to get the widgets, then applying the theme to them should be no problem.
If anyone was able to find that "simpltext" doc them please let me know because I searched on the makers website and found nothing, thanks.

I talked to the creator, he said he will port to eris for 10 pounds.

This happens sometimes. What you need to do is go back into Metamorph and choose pick existing theme. Scroll through till you get to the XML file and tap that and it should give you the choices to theme which app(s). Thanks to RangeStang for giving me this pointer. Hope it helps you too.

asking for it is weak, but 10 pounds isn't that much. if you were to cut the cost between 3 or 4 people it would be relatively cheap, make everyone's devices look super clean, and save someone else the hastle of trying to port.
i really like this theme. what i'd LIKE to do is speak to some devs who have experience modifiying Sense, etc. (e.g. Konikub, the original dev for Aloysius). Sense with a modified Rosies and the full Minimal Matte theme throughout all Sense apps would be badnasty.
seriously, i think i could go to a bar, pull my phone out, and have sex with the best looking girl at the bar as a result.
usually a phone won't get you laid, but in this case it might!

haha... nice... i'm sure we have enough people that want it and would donate a little here and there... I'm trying to find out if I can accomplish this myself first... there is a theme converter in the Android development section and I'm seeing if can be used... then I would share of course!
I don't get it, I used the minimal matte MM and got everything except the icons (which is fine by me). What ROM are you using?

the MM doesn't skin the Launcher Pro Plus widgets... that is what I want the most of all from that theme... i got the framework from the MM(except the status bar didn't work...) but i really want those widgets...
wasn't able to port it correctly.... sorry.... going back to the MM... that seemed to work the best for me...
I haven't tried pushing the apk's yet... so thats my next attempt
has anyone else tried pushing the widget apk's and if so, did you succeed? If you're using Apps2SD where do you push to?
Hey, I'm having a similar problem. I found a CM6 build for Eris, then used MM to put on the theme since it wasn't working on my KaosFroyo ROM.
I have the status bar and notifications working great with it, but I can't figure out how to get the widgets and the icons.
I have looked everywhere and can't find any info on how to theme using the tmobile theming engine.
For those of you using CM7 nightlys are probably aware that its now an option and it has a couple theme's it comes with.
I have tried using those as a template but they don't show up when I try and install my edited ones and I can't figure out how to edit the .xml file that sets ringtone etc.
Either way I thought there would be a bunch of info on this but so far nothing. Anyone out there know how to use this?
There´s no detailed how-to yet...
I would just like to know how to successfully compile and decompile the theme apk to even begin. Normal apktool app will errors out but works fine with other apk's so there has to be something missing.
Anyone please?
Repo sync and work with eclipse..
Edit: but don't trust me, cause I haven't done any tmo theme yet

I assume I would need a linux box or something to do that. I was hoping it would be a bit more user friendly.
I found this.
http://code.google.com/p/tmobile-themes/
I have not looked deep with in the page, but I did see a reference to CM7
+1 bump
Would like to see some kind of tutorial so I can get in on the action.

thanks, i'm headed for the right direction. making my own cm7 theme.
Here's an idea,
With all the hype and excitement of the successful WP7 OS, many apps are being made for android phones to copy the look of WP7. One of the best launchers in the market based off of wp7 is Launcher7. It has good customization like change the tile colors, Background, option to have a wp7 style status bar, etc. And there are apps being made to duplicate the look of the music player app, contacts app, Photos app, etc.
What i am proposing to u developers is to make a WP7 rom based off of cm7 and using these look-alike apps to replace the stock apps. It would be very pleasing to the Sprint hero and the android community.
its not possible all the win7 devices are hdpi so nothing would be compatible with the hero witch is mdpi however theres as good alternative home launcher called launcher 7 i believe and theres a couple of themes floating around as well.

Bah, it would just be png resizing. A fair amount of work, but not impossible.

That's actually not a bad idea, but it wouldn't really be a ROM, since CM7 is the ROM. If it's just using the launcher and some other WP7 apps, all it would need to be is a flashable zip to put the apps in /system, the user would just have to remove the stock apps. And yes it would be a lot of png and 9png work, but could be done. Of course if the hdpi-mdpi converting was done, each user could also just use the WP7 apps they like, moving them into /system and deleting apps with whatever method they like.
The point is i want to replace stock apps with wp7 themed apps as much as possible. Also shouldnt apps be made for both hdpi and mdpi? cuz some apks i see when i look in them to mod some parts of it theres a hdpi folder and a mdpi folder.

Sure, if you are going to run apps on a hdpi device. For just the Hero, no, you wouldn't need to, and you could probably delete the hdpi folders to save space.

Delete them using 7zip while keeping everything in a apk file so it stays signed? You know what? This encourages me to start getting into android development, I need to figure out how to use androidSDK.

Saw this site the other day, they started a project called WP7Android and I saw that they are gonna start development for Roms for the "popular devices", wouldn't the hero be popular? Even though its outdated, it was the first android phone to have HTC Sense. And it seems like our hero is still pretty popular here at xda-developers especially after it being out for 1.5 years. I will be watching this site for info for cdma hero.

Those are easy to fix just replace the battery image in I believe
Framework-res.apk just extract change replace from zip to zip and push
Same for the Calendar.apk (no xml edits needed)
I believe spchicks posted a how to theme tutorial on these forums, That is how I learned. Its very easy Once you get it all set up which is the hardest part.
p.s. These aren't meant to be flashed over the new rom, They have not been ported. They are for others to port or change. I do believe JohnnyAn is the guy to talk to But if it works it works.
