I have looked everywhere and can't find any info on how to theme using the tmobile theming engine.
For those of you using CM7 nightlys are probably aware that its now an option and it has a couple theme's it comes with.
I have tried using those as a template but they don't show up when I try and install my edited ones and I can't figure out how to edit the .xml file that sets ringtone etc.
Either way I thought there would be a bunch of info on this but so far nothing. Anyone out there know how to use this?
ThereĀ“s no detailed how-to yet...
I would just like to know how to successfully compile and decompile the theme apk to even begin. Normal apktool app will errors out but works fine with other apk's so there has to be something missing.
Anyone please?
Repo sync and work with eclipse..
Edit: but don't trust me, cause I haven't done any tmo theme yet

I assume I would need a linux box or something to do that. I was hoping it would be a bit more user friendly.
I found this.
http://code.google.com/p/tmobile-themes/
I have not looked deep with in the page, but I did see a reference to CM7
+1 bump
Would like to see some kind of tutorial so I can get in on the action.

They are in system\framework\framework-res.apk res\drawable-mdpi. They start with stat... ie. stat_2g3g_off.png
Thanks for the fast reply, I've been able to theme everything I've wanted to from apps to the entire framework, however the thing I'm running into is not knowing which file to change to recolor the portion circled in red. I've already tried stat_bgon.9 and stat_bgoff.9 to no avail. What are the possibilities that this is a color picked by an XML and not just a png?
It is likely since it can be changed in cm settings I don't know where its located

Dude! We'd love your help over here! See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858935
We are trying to port the MIUI ROM for our hero's, but we need someone who has the time/desire to port the images from hdpi to mdpi. There are programs to help make this faster, but we're having some problems with them and a lot of the images are gonna need to be ported by hand. Anyway...let me know what you think! Thanks man!
Actually! I'd love to help, I honestly think that the Miui rom is really legit. I downloaded the rom already, where should I start. I know that some of the apps have been done already right?

Do any of you themers know if it's possible to put the Vibrant style 3d-ish menus on a Captivate Rom and if so, what files need to be changed. I'll post a pic of what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help given.

All that is is a theme, they are not really 3d. Check out the darkness theme if i remember right
I know its not 3d and it's not just a theme someone made, it's how the vibrant roms come stock. Captivate roms use matte panels.

Well I am glad they came that way but there are themes floating around that look just like that. I ran one awhile back that had the menus like that. Do a search for glossy black. Have a look here.

Lol wow, you aren't understanding me. I don't need a link to a Vibrant custom theme. The stock Vibrant Rom has what I need. What I'm asking is if the people who make themes out here know what files I need to replace in my Captivate framework to make it look like this.

No I am understanding you, I am leading you to what you want to know, Most of the time it is not as simple as replacing one or 2 files, there are XML edits that might need to be done. Plus it depends on what rom you are running for not all the framework files are the same. The reason I linked you to it was so you could find your answer from someone that has made the theme and can point you in the right direction. Might not want to be so rude when asking for help. I will go back to my theming of the captivate dialer now. good luck to you
Rude? umm ok..., your responses were take as being rude as well but thanks anyway

So I wanted to make a theme for the myTouch 4G, but one that would show up in the Settings->Personalize->Themes section on the phone. I've seen this done with an app called 'Androidian' in the market, which does exactly what I want.
What I need to know is how to package it and do all of the stuff in Eclipse to make it into a theme. I know its kind of a lot to ask but please any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Anybody at all?
Do you have your development environment set up? Have you grabbed the available code from github for building the themes. Its easier to help you if you can layout what you have ready and where you are stuck.

Thank you for the response. I have the environment set up, the SDK, eclipse and everything. I have not grabbed the code from github though. What exactly does it do and why do I need it?
I guess where I'm stuck at is actually packaging it up into an apk. I have all the PNG's I want to use with the correct name and everything. Just need help with what I'll need to do in Eclipse to make a theme in apk for that shows up in the theme selector. Thanks for the help.
Ok, so I found the code on github and I loaded it into Eclipse. I changed the androidmanifest.xml so it wouldn't say Androidian, it would say the name I want. When I tried to apply the theme on my phone though, I get continuous FC's on the launcher and it never actually loaded the theme. All it does is say the Force Close message and once I click it, it displays the same message right after making it so I cant do anything. Why did it do that? Did I do something wrong? If so, how can I fix it? And by fix it, I mean fix the apk file, not the useless launcher (I just loaded a previous nand). Thanks!
Hey!
Im trying to mod the AOSP jb 4.3 dialer to make it look like the 'leaked kitkat dialer'. The background of the unmodded/original dialer is dark (green) but the one in my modded app is white, so the text looks white-on-white. I've been able to change the text color of the rest of the app to black but I can't find what to edit to change the text color of the names of the contacts under the 3rd tab in the dialer (Contacts tab). Please help me out.
Thanks.

I'm guessing you missed/overlooked it while editing the xml, it its running off of your roms default color (android color) they can be easy to over look but i wouldn't think it would be in smali.

From my experience I know that the the phone and contacts are obviously linked for as dialer. I haven't messed with any 4.3 system apps the much yet or atleast behold icons that is. Im still rockin 4.2.2. Got me curious, gunna take a peek around. but I would check both. its when they go off system for color. ex. @android:color/holo_blue_light is easier to look over then ...>#ff33b5e5</color> lol But doesn't matter you can still search the whole res folder for a certain color or whatever. and edit multiples entry's of a specific value.
But im going to take a look around the dailer.apk, as of now sorry couldn't give you a better answer without actually going through it yet.

AFAIK, phone.apk deals with the in-call part of the dialer, so I'll skip that bit. Last time I tried, Contacts.apk didn't seem to have any effect on dialer. I'll check it out again, thanks.
Nope, I cant seem to be able to find the xml related to this. Out of ideas. :/

Ok without seeing what edit you already made it is really kinda hard to nerrow it down with the limited time I have available. So what I will do is zip up my moded dialer. It has blue text with white numbers. Do a compare of the directories with something like winmerge and you should be able to find what you need to change. Look for color code #ff02a4ee

I don't really know the extent of your knowledge, but become familiar with the different ways to decompile/recompile apks if you haven't already done so. I personally use Virtuous Ten Studio, apktool (probably the most simple way), and sometimes I use Android Studio. Download some type of image manipulation program such as Photoshop or GIMP. Gimp is free to use and very powerful in my opinion. It's what I always use. Become familiar with the file structure of Android.
The list goes on and on, but you'd be surprised what you can find just from googling. Every thing I know about theming and android has been self taught, it is possible :good:
That's mostly what I know. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and I use android studio +gimp. I also know how to decompile and recompile and sign apk files I just don't know how to understand the code for each thing

To get started download java dev kit 7, android SDK, and apktool. Setup your environment variables, after that you can decompile the apk and if you need help I should be around to help.

Learn to theme first...theme chooser isn't a toy. Much easier to make themes look perfect if you know how apps work. I'm not gonna sit and help someone step by step....unless you gonna pay something....j/k
Also....
You didn't look very hard, I found six wiki explaining how to theme android...YouTube it's great too but if you gave up searching for ways to theme then you'll have a tough time searching for code and images. It's not easy if you do it right. But I'll even point you to my tutorial that has taught some great devs to theme. So it should help you.
http://www.designrifts.com/teamblackedoutapp/tutorials/
If you can't figure it out this way then you'll need to rethink doing this. [emoji4]
But
If you can get an app themed then this will click faster!
Good luck!

Thanks but i managed it myself.. All i really wanet to know which tool would be easier since there are a few out for diggin in to the android system.learned it the hardest way i think.. By taking the complete system and apps appart.to have their images and etc. But now i know whats going on from ground up .still thank you
And of course there wouldve been some actions from my side , be it a payment, a drink ,dinner etc...
