First I'd like to mention that I am grateful for all the developers on XDA working on these phones. I'm no programmer but I know plenty who are in all fields so I can appreciate what you are all doing.
I just wanted to create this thread to see how close we are to getting our hands on the HardSPL for Rhodium and any updates on development.
I've had my Touch Pro 2 for about a week and half now and already bored with it. The phone itself is great, but Windows Mobile 6.1 seriously sucks.
I really want to start using Windows Mobile 6.5, which brings me to why I created this post.
If anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

Olipro and cmonex are still searching for mobile devices with hynix memory to test some stuff.
In short, don't expect anything soon and have patience
what
how do we know if it has that memory so others can help look.
just asked permission to Olipro if it was ok if I wrote a tutorial regarding this...
Uhm...I'll open a new thread with step-by-step instructions on how to help them out
Hope it will help them. Gimme about an hour to write a detailed tutorial.
*EDIT* Tutorial is up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4035499#post4035499
hmm this thread will be good for the usual "hardspl waititing posts".. when release comes, we (olinex) will just create the real hspl thread, so mods will not have to clean up for release (like for topaz they had to).
as to why this flash type checking is so important: on topaz the hynix ones really just got lucky by not getting their mfg partition corrupt. (no one got it corrupt but as i said that was luck) i want to avoid any such problems on rhodium.

Does this mean there is a feasible solution for Samsung based units ?
I am surprised that it makes a difference based on the fact HTC wont have made a separate spl for hynix based units. and rom upgrades will contain the same info...
can hard spl for samsungs be realeased with a link to the tutorial on how to ensure you have samsung?
darides tutorial suggests most people seem to have samsung anyway.
infact has ther been a hynix unit seen in the wild?
Cheers

Perhaps Olinex can make a version for samsung that checks on the sspl that the memory is samsung or not. to avoid bricks or other problems.
I have not seen or know anyone with hynix memory on their tp2 after checking about 5 different units from my friends and family they are all samsung. My vodafone one is samsung too.
it's great news for me
is it a problem if everybody have the samsung chipset ?
just letting you know no updates yet - was busy in real life

Please can we have an ETA for the release of the HardSPL.
Hi Guys,
I can't put into words how much I respect and revere the information posted on your web-site and I apologise for asking the million dollar question. But I need to know.
Can we please have an ETA / timeline for the release of the HardSPL for our HTC Rhodium.
I hate my Vodafone UK branded HTC Touch Pro 2. It is red and so am I with anger. Joking aside I love HTC standard ROM's. The last one I put on my HTC Touch Pro was amazing.
Please, keep up the work....
Kind regards...

If you want to flash the HTC Shipped ROM, look out for the Goldcard methods. I'm not going into detail here because it's off topic and well documented else where. If all else fails cmonex normally helps via PM.

I can totally understand people begging for this. I nervously waiting for it to, but not to install custom ROMs. I'm waiting for it to get blackberry connect running. To achieve that I need to manipulate the device ID in the ROM itself, to fool RIM, let them think it's running on a proper device. But to flash this manipulated ROM I need HSPL (or does someone know a way to manipulate the device ID (HTC-Rhodium) in another way?).
However, asking and begging does not help or make stuff easier or getting it done faster. We all need to be brave and patient and wait a bit and let olipro and cmonex get this stuff done.
Cheers

Sorry to go a bit OT here but I am interested in your info about Blackberry Connect. I have just come to the TP2 from a Storm and one thing that is lagging behind with the TP2 IMO is the push email, would the 'updated' ROM you are proposing allow me to use the pushmail service from BB ?
Thanks,
Neil

Have you tried to change your AKU?
If NO you can change this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/Versions/Aku
and put this:
.1.4.3
I'm wondering if anyone can make an app so that while you listen to music you can use the volume buttons to change tracks.
Thanks!
Let my bumps go?
Is there any apps that could do this?
Bump ************ do you speak it?

Considering you're asking someone to put a hell of a lot of effort in to code you an app, you're not going about it very politely. There's no need to be so hostile.
To be honest, I don't think it's possible. I don't think the SDK allows use of the volume + and -, and because we can only map keys to other keys, I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Besides those points, you are asking for something that obviously only you wants. What about the people who (like myself) use the volume keys to change the volume of the media while listening to music with the phone in my pocket? Those of us who use the button on our 3.5mm headphone adapter to skip tracks? Or, those of us who are not dicks about requesting customized software modifications from hard working developers?
I might be wrong but at tunewiki or default player by holding the answer/close key at your handsfree you could change tracks ... try it
Gosh you guys seem mad.
Thanks to AdrianK for the answer.
I never thought this forum was so full of angry people.

its not full of angry people... just stop and think for a second... you posted a topic and within a few hours you had replied to yourself a number of times and it seems as though you were begging for attention. i am not saying this is bad, but look at how many different topics there are on this particular section of XDA, let alone within just the Dream section of this forum. it does sometimes take time for people to look at everything. That isnt me trying to say that your topic will get overlooked, but there are many people on here that are looking for answers/help and many more who are willing to give that help if asked/requested the correct way... and the correct way is not by standing in the back of the classroom and jumping up and down saying pick me pick me...
hi all
my theory is this but i ask all of you first if this has already been tried, With OTA updates these are all signed with i imagine official OTA keys so your device will install the update no matter what.
Now my question is, is there any way of reverse engineering the OTA signed zip files to figure out what these keys are so that we can make a ROM that will enable root on devices with Perfect SPLs
all information is appreciated
Thank you
If you have any place for me to download the T-Mobile OTA updates I'd be happy to look at them for you
Im not a proggrammer or lwayer, so take my word with a pinch of salt. Wouldnt this need reverse engineering? Making this whole deal illegal?

This. We need T-Mobile's private keys to sign the update, which won't be happening. If you can "reverse engineer" that then get ready to be famous, cause you just broke modern cryptography.

Depends on what country you live in. In the US, probably. In most other countries....probably not.
Those who know little about serious cryptography often assume that a particular encryption method is safe if nobody has cracked it. However, as the eminent cryptographer Bruce Schneier pointed out in his Crypto-Gram Newsletter dated 15 February 2003, "That's actually backwards. In the world of cryptography, we assume something is broken until we have evidence to the contrary." By this he means that an encryption method can be fully trusted only if it has been subject to rigorous and critical analysis by experts to check its resistance to all known cryptanalytic attacks.
While it is true that it's pretty much impossible to crack it, you can delete the keys and make your own. Although, I'm not exactly sure this is what he is looking for...
its encrypted, although you have a public key, you cant change a update since it breaks the signature... you also cant sign an update since you dont have the private keys... basically, no.
It depends on the strength of the encryption if it is AES-128 good luck you ain't never cracking it. If its RSA-512 It could be cracked by 1 person in 2 months. Or by a team of people say using boinc in 2 days. We cracked all the OS signing keys for the Entire line of Texas Instrument Graphing Calculators got a DMCA take down as well. We got EFF lawyers working to make sure we can keep working.

Isnt it illegal though to be cracking this stuff?
Not saying you would get caught but if you did you may or may not be charged.
But its easy to root so why try another approach?
What would make it illegal?
YOU own the equipment.
The modifications you do to your equipment do NOT enable you to break the law and DEFINITELY do not MAKE you do illegal things.
wow thanks for everyones replies, the only reason i question is for all the new android devices come with perfected SPLs which either conquer or make it very hard to gain root, so my theory was if we could get these keys we could make Roms signed by 'android' which would contain modified SPLs and recoverys
A will a way..
With modern encryption ..there are very few people who understand it..IT CAN BE BROKEN. NOw if u want to read about a sort of physical encryption check out quantum cryptograpy.

It's still a terrible idea. You'll make T-Mo very, very angry at both you and XDA, with almost zero real gain. The rooting process is trivial, and it works. I'd also recommend talking to a lawyer if you really intend to proceed.
its only for personal gain 'wink wink' i can do what i want with my own device as long as i do not distribute it intentionally
Actually, so long as you don't distribute any code or products themselves considered proprietary to T-Mobile, if you reverse-engineer their encryption key, there's nothing they can legally do about it.
What I mean by the above is that if we treat the decryption process in a manner similar to how Cyanogen does his current ROMs, and stick to simply releasing OSS-derived code, there's really nothing that T-Mo or anyone else can do 'bout it. The trouble with this is that it would require somehow maintaining the drivers for the SPLs on the device while only modifying the portions that lead to root.

No there isn't any Hspl for wp7 phones and I think it will take some time to .
dev is slow on wp7 because it is new and it is totally different from wm6.*
lets hope that cotulla or cmonex/olipro has some time to find a way to make sspl/Hspl (I think it will be a real big problem to load sspl)
Do you guys know if anyone is currently working on it?
Search the forums. People are working on it (bit of silly question), but no timeframe yet.
However once they do crak it, there will be no escaping the news. People just have to be patient.
Hi all, have been searching but could not find a solution. Is it possible to install trackball wake into GRI40 gingerbread in anyway? My power button is broken so I couldn't upgrade to GRI40 or else I'll loose the trackball wake
Yes I do know that there are currently CM7 out there with trackball wake but what I really want is a stable CM7 build and not beta build, and hence I am not going into CM7 yet until a stable version with 2.3.3 comes out.
Please could anyone tell me a way to get trackball wake in GRI40?
Thank you.

Hi there, thanks for answering anyway. I did search and here's my search results:-

Many are looking but no one seems to provide a clear solution yet. I am probably not good with search but I'll search harder.
Thank you anyway.
Cheers.
Don't worry about it...at least you tried to search
As for trackball wake, No one has fixed it yet to work with the GB framework. But the XDA developers are hard at finding a solution...
I used the search button here on the forum you are asking the question on and came up with 18 results.

Hi there,
Thank you for your reply. I shall wait patiently until someone came up with a way of incorporating trackball wake in GB framework then. Hopefully this thread can serve as the answer to all lousy-searchers like me who couldn't find an absolute answer to TB wake in stock GRI40.
Cheers.

Do not feel sorry for this, mate. Maybe you've got lousy search skill, but quite often I can see that people with "search skills" fail miserably at being nice.
@Know-Fear: if only you'd have answered "Do not look any further, there is no suitable solution yet." (pretty much like galaxys did) that would have been much nicer of you.
I know that there are a lot of lazy fellows that do not even try to search for what they're seeking.
Still I believe that you have the choice of replying or not to their requests.
If you take your time to reply to a message, you should ensure that what you're posting is at least more usefull of the message you are criticizing.
That's my 2cent.
