I've been trying to find a good wired tethering program. I found android-wired-tether for root users. Its made by the same developers of wifi tether for android.
The only problem is that the Eris doesn't have a Mobile Network Sharing option like the HTC Hero does. (see image)

I'm by far no expert when it comes to developing. The most i've done is extracted a system.img, removed some apps, resigned it and flashed it. Obviously not the most difficult stuff out there. However i am eager to learn more.
How hard would it be to find the network settings .apk in the eris system.img and port it over to the Eris? Or at least just that one particular Mobile Network setting and the files associated with it to make it work.
Does anyone know if there's a tutorial out there for something like this? Or could someone point me in the right direction. Better yet could someone show me how to do it.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Thanks!
Thanks.
Not sure if I follow you correctly, but you can download PDANet from the Market and share your 3g connection over your USB cable. It's a great app with great setup instructions.
The Legend rom framework ported to the eris has the network sharing option. I'm using it now... Without a tethering program. Plug and play.

This is the home app from Galaxy S, it works on our phones but there are some minor graphical bugs. Which could probably be fixed. Ive only tried it on 2.2, should work on a 2.1 rom, maybe 1.6...

Well it works on the G1 (CM5.0.8), but the graphics are certainly out of whack.. and I think some of the stock applications have different names in TouchWiz that cause it to only put Messaging in the dock. I'm gonna look into editing this after I boot back into Windows and try to make it better.

I just wanted to share it, i want to implement this into a theme when its in working state.
i would love to see work done on this i found it before in the nexus one forum but its pretty basic with none of the touchwiz stuff even thoughit has a section for the widgets.
So, I know on the long list of problems in the world, this is probably the lamest but it is something that bugs me.
I have an HTC One GE 4.3 (sinless Rom for those that want to know) and whenever I connect it to my computer, this ugly icon is displayed in the windows explorer:

I have a beautiful HTC One .ico file that I want to replace it with, but I've been searching how to do this for about three days to no avail. I've even installed the horrendous HTC Sync software just for the drivers that were undoubtedly included with it, that didn't work.
I suspect it's because I'm using a GE rom on my phone as opposed to an untouched sense ROM, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also just in case you can't tell, I'm running Windows 8.
I hate double posting, but it appears I FINALLY found a solution, so I thought I'd share.
I found this topic thread on another site, and after initially running into problems, It finally worked!
Here is the final result!
If anyone wants to do this with their own HTC One, here is the .ico file I used.
I share this tool in case this possibly help somebody.
I use a french operator called SOSH with CM10.1 (NX Kernel) ROM.
Everything works fine, except the tethering.
Tethering started on my Note, my tablet is connected, except that it can not access the internet.
This seems to come from the IP tables. So I developed a small tool to correct them.
If you have the same problem, try to install the APK and start the application.
When you activate the tethering, allowing ROOT rights.
That's all ...
You can view the status by running the application.
Should work for WiFi and BT.
Tested only on CM10.1 with SOSH. I do not know if the problem occurs on other operators.
