Cannot download. Not supported on this phone... - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting this error when I try to download Enom's latest ROM and I have never had a problem downloading stuff from my phone. Is this a setting I need to change? I'm running Cyanogen's latest. TIA.

Did you do a wipe before changing from cm to enom rom?

This is a common problem I have all the time.
It's probably a zip file you are trying to download so make sure you have android winzip on your phone. Then it will dl. I know, I also have other programs that can read zip files, but for some reason without this program its hit or miss if they will download.

How to Properly Upgrade ROM

I did a couple searches but could not find a guide to updating my CyanogenMod version. I followed an old ninja tutorial on rooting which linked to v3.4.6. But I don't think I have to do a wipe and all that stuff do I? Do I just have to copy the ROM to SD, rename as update.zip and do the reboot thing? Will I lose my data? Settings? (I know it's a good idea to backup anyway)
Do I have to upgrade incrementally from 3.5-->3.6-->3.7-->etc.. or can I jump to latest version? Do I need to use an updated recovery image, or is cm-recovery-1.2.img okay?
On a side note, I just noticed that there is an update showing up under System Updates. Is that the official Google update? What would happen if I applied that update?
Thanks
just download cm 4.0.1 and flash it. you do not have to wipe unless things start to terribly mess up. i would recommend get the 1.4 recovery image as you can flash any .zip file with it. also you can restore a nandroid backup from it. if something does mess up try running fix_permissions in the recovery console before wiping.
if you applied an official google update you would lose root access but that wouldn't be terribly hard to get back with the one-click root in the market aka recovery flasher.
Thanks david1171.
Does either flashing the ROM or the Recovery Image wipe my settings, apps? Sorry for the noob q's.
Also, someone in a previous thread said to update radio? Is that a separate procedure? Where do I find the latest radio version?
just flashing the rom or radio or recovery image will not wipe anything. the newest radio is 2.22.19.26I. you can check in setting>about phone> under baseband version the part past the U_ is the radio version. if you do not have the latest radio you can get in cyanogen's thread in the first post. and you just flash the radio like a normal rom. the only thing that will wipe your data when you flash it is haykuro's spl.
what do you mean just flash the radio like any normal rom?
do I rename the radio zip file to update.zip, put in root directory, reboot, hold HOME, then ALT+S? Is that what you mean?
I tried to follow the HTC guide for updating radio, but it sounds like you need a developer machine to run those commands.
Thanks

yeah thats how you do it.
Alright, I'm up and running:
recovery 1.4
newest radio
cyanogenmod 4.0.1
Here's a guide for noobs that I found useful:
http://androidandme.com/2009/05/gui...r-rooting-your-android-g1-to-install-cupcake/
It's going to be outdated but at least it shows how to update radio. I didn't realize that all updates were treated the same. Now with Cyanogen's Recovery 1.4, we don't have to rename the files to update.zip.
I also didn't realize that when you do updates it doesn't delete your data folder which houses all of your custom settings, apps, google account info. It just flashes the system files.
I still don't know a lot and don't completely feel comfortable doing everything. Hopefully soon enough, someone will put together a guide to explain all the particulars that are not obvious to the noob. People have already started.
Thanks so much to everyone who has worked on these projects. It's so awesome!
do you have the Hard SPL. if not go to the guide in my sig and you can install it noob friendly from there

Open season on Nexus Noob: Help me please

I'm inviting all you guys shoot me down for the noob i am.
I've search and i have found, I've read but only partially understood.
the background:
-Nexus one on vodafone epf30
-Downgraded to erd79 using fastboot (via Terminal in Mac-osx).
-Rotted and installed Amon recovery with sucess.
-At this stage i tried to install a variety of different pre rooted roms
- upgraded to frf91 OTA after giving up on trying to root froyo
I basically just would Froyo 2.2 rooted on nexus one.
I've found a variety of different methods and techs but haven't had any success i can downgrade again and again but each attempt i reach the update.zip stage and simply get a varification failed message.it's likley ive missed something here?!
I'm on mac and I'm sure I'm not having the update.zip.zip issue. ive checked and double checked, (that same issue caught me out before on symbian).
Does anyone dhave a simple deffinitive soloution or can point me in the right direction/
im aware this post will cause a shower of "search you noob SCUM!" style posts.
cheers in advance

Read from:
"By Popular Demand (Credit to lox):
Update.zip to flash with custom recovery"
Download, update using AmonRa's recovery, reboot to bootloader, flash new radio from any Froyo ROM thread in Development, reboot, enjoy.
hi, thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure i have tried this method. if i down grade to erd79 can i apply this from there or should i go up to ere27 ? and does this require amons recovery or can it be done from a standard recovery?
Sorry im a symbian migrant :-( this is all new and exciting
ok so i down graded again to erd79 then rooted and installed AMONs recovery
installation of update.zip fails with the verification failed, is there something about AMONs custom recovery that im missing should what could be the cause for the verification to fail. im pretty sad now.
maybe there is a way to flash pre rooted Froyo directly using super boot?
maybe i need to be up
You've already installed a custom recovery. Basically you are done the whole rooting process.
No more need to downgrade or anything of the sort. Now you just go into recovery and flash what you want, no other steps.
Now you should be able to flash any custom rom meant for unlocked users.
You may be trying to flash the official 2.2 rom, try looking for a 2.2 for root users. Or try flashing CyanogenMod 6.
Are you sure you have Amon's Recovery because my buddy though he had it and he didnt which is why he couldnt install a rooted froyo ROM. Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702191
ok ill give that rom a shot though i think my main issue could be the fact im using mac os x the downloader in safari automatically unzips .zip files so maybe recompressing the zip is causing the varification to fail.
ill have a go when im home and at a faster net connection work is like 0.2 up and down makes me feel ill!
Oh ok. I have a MAC aswell but I use google chrome for my browser.
OMG! mods lock this down! no need for anything more to be added!
MAC = FAIL
Windows+win
all you have to do is download using anyother browser DONT USE SAFARI!
and success will be yours! rebooting now to pre rooted custom frf91 WOOP!
Hey OP,
Actually you can still use Safari as it does unzip the file automatically but it also downloads the zip file so you end up with both. At least my MAC does this. MAC's are great, Safari on the other hand is junk so don't blame the whole computer for the browsers fault.

[Q] Cyanogen 6.0 problem? plz help.

Hi everyone. I just recently flashed the new 6.0 froyo cyanogen and its amazing. At first, when I flashed it I had 2 problems.
1. No Market app
2. I didn't get a setup screen for my gmail.
That problem I fixed by downloading and flashing the google apps zip thing.
Now, there's a new problem.
1. Market continues to say "connection failed, retry or cancel" for everthing I try to download. I press on and download.
2. I basically cannot download anything at all.
3. Youtube as well isn't working... I get the same thing as the market.
I did see a google chrome apk in a cyanogenmod website, it said it would help? I don't remember with what though.
Do I need SDK in order to use apps?
- Thanks.
Did you flash the correct google apps? It schould be named gapps-mdpi-FRF91-3-signed.zip.
Did you wipe before flashing?
What version of CM6 did you flash? If it was a nightly, try another one ore RC2.

Yes, thats the name of the Google apps i flashed. The name of the cyanogen rom i flashed is -
update-cm-6.0.0-DS-RC2-signed
I tried flashing everything once more on my rooted G1.
This time i flashed DangerSPL. It was probably the reason it didnt work. I will post back if it works.

[Q] !Complete! reset i9000

Hey guys,
i installed many different versions of android also custom roms, but since some time i noticed, that my phone gets buggy. I guess its due to many different installs, maybe incomplete resets or whatever.
I would like to hardly reset all in my mobile. (SD-Card) the system, the partitions... is there any option to really reset all and get rid of old leftovers?
kind regards.
mhoppi
Search google for hard reset.
Something like this
*#2767*3855# but im not sure.
It will do factory reset and erase sd card.
First install stock rom and then do this.it won't work on custom kernel.
Yes, im on Miui for now. Well I downloaded XWJW1 but the files are named in a - for me - new way.
APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
KERNEL_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CODE_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Which one is which one in odin?
Download latest jvu it's easier.

If you want JW1, download the official version released on Monday.
See this thread for the download with file names that are more appropriate for Odin:

(twrp) can't flash rom

So I have a big problem. I wanted to flash a stock 5.0.1 rom so I wiped my device through twrp and when trying to flash, I get an error saying error flashing zip. So now I have no OS installed and cannot use my phone. I cannot connect to my PC so twrp is my only option. I tried download another zip through a PC and copying to sd and get the same error. What can I do?
Managed to flash cm11. (Very good, fast os. Would consider keeping if it wasn't missing key features that make the note 4 like fingerprint scanner and spen.)
So I guess I the other zips might have been faulty? Will reply with updates. Advice would be appreciated.
Either
A) you downloaded the incorrect ROM for your device (910T vs 910T3) or the ROM was meant for a different kernel that wasn't included
B) your download was corrupted. ALWAYS check your MD5 before wiping/proceeding.
Glad you atleast got a functioning phone though... I know how much that sucks
Ok so I'm starting to get really frustrated. Ive tried downloading multiple different zips and keep getting the same error. I don't understand why I cant flash a stock rom >.<
@pavellytime are you trying to flash a stock ROM like lollipop from your carrier? Or a download website?
Can you link us to the site where you downloaded the ROM?
Also what is the model number of your phone?
