i bought a used g1 no physical problems took it into a shop and they couldnt find anything wrong with it internally so im guessing its a software issue....dont know if this guy i bought it from tried to mess with root and messed something up but im thinking its some sort of software stuff....can anyone PLEASE help!?!?!?!?! i either get this phone fixed or keep using my nokia that seems like its from 1998 and its killing me!!!!!!
What are the stats of the phone? You can check the versions in the settings\about phone area. Model #, Firmware version, Baseband version, kernel version and build number information would be helpful.
Is it already rooted? If not, you may want to go ahead and start reading up on the root process. Some of the newer builds may or may not help the issue. But if it isn't rooted and you arent getting a signal, it very well may be a network issue. Also, does your phone service have a data plan? Has the phone gone through and passed all of the sign-in procedure? (being from another country, I am not sure what all you have to do to activate your phone) Sim card good?
thats the problem i did a factory reset to input my gmail info and now i cant get past the damn activation screen! ive been through all the customer support through tmo and cant figure anything out!!! im goin crazy
also ive found this webpage http://developer.htc.com/adp.html that has recovery, system and radio images from htc and every time i try one of them it comes up and says no signature or no verification.......not sure what to do
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
you cant apply those because your phone is not rooted. learn what your doing without randomly flashing everything that can killed your phone. and yes, you can kill your phone permanently flashing the wrong **** (i.e radio/spl)
Issue I've noticed about the Rogers Update or 3.22.26.17 Radio specifically. Rogers says they test their software before releasing it right? But, not only me, but someone else on HowardForums has noticed the same problem I have. Has anyone else been having issues with the Radio? Read below for a more detailed experience.
Here's the issue:
Ever since the update, I've noticed drops in data or even signal all together. Woke up this morning with a "No Signal" icon. Scared the crap out of me. So before calling tech support "again", I decided to click my "Only 2G" option in wireless settings first, then turn it off after a few seconds. What do you know? Data/Voice are back again. This problems seems to happen at least once a day.
Now here's the other issue, and some of you might want to take this a little further, even though Rogers has had hell with us for not wanting to update in the first place; waivers and such. But for those of us who did update... Well.
Last night, after applying the radio, I had waited 2 days without data. I called in, tech rep helped, turn my data back on for me; apparently there was a perma block on data on my account after reactivating my voice (outgoing was disabled remember?). Anyway, after he reactivated my voice, he told me this, "Now, should your data ever cut out again, do this to get it back, hit the 2G Only button, let it sit for a few minutes, then turn it off. Should work after that."
Okay, so Rogers knows this is an issue? Uhh. W-T-F right? Not sure if this is happening with Magics, since their updated radio is something entirely different; 6.XX or something. At first I wasn't going to say anything but I've noticed this dropping since Sunday night, when I first applied the radio, and someone else has experienced the same thing. I know I could simply go back to EBI0, but the point is, the radio is applied in their "Mandatory Update", and it still is kind of Mandatory if you refuse to sign the waiver.
Anyway, cheers to those who want to seek a legal/DIY solution!
NOTE: In Q&A section 'cause at first I wanted to ask who else was having the problem, but then I ended up writing a lot. Maybe should be moved to General?
I rooted and installed CM7 from stock for my Sprint Hero. When ever i make a local call, the phone company has a recording that says I need to enter the area code. Never had to do this before. Any ideas???
Also, will sprint sending me an OTA or reprovision the phone cause any problems with CM7???
FYI - The phone does not say I am roaming.
Thanks!!!

Never heard that one. I am pretty sure that the actual phone/dialer itself (aka radio) is entirely unaffected by a ROM. My guess is something went weird in how you rooted. Could you provide more details, maybe someone will recognize a step you missed or something. Also, if you are on CM7 sprint will not be able to send you anything, since the access they need/you need to do stuff like that is integrated with the sense framework. I would say on that front, either RUU or nand back to stock if you have that and work with sprint to resolve the issue, then reroot/flash etc.
If you dial the area code does it work? I will say that ever since I have had a cell phone I've been 10 digit dialing. I'm sure a lot of things could cause that but I'm not aware of anything rom specific that would cause it. You could try flashing the rom over itself but I would think this would be more than likely something specific to your area. Someone else may have more specific answers regarding reprovisioning but anything sprint could do to your phone specifically remotely would have mostly gone away with rooting and installing a custom rom. I could be wrong on that part but they certainly lose some ability to update a phone or we'd all still be stock.

Hello friends,
I have the Z for almost two years now, and have had a issue for a long time; here goes:
A long time ago, I started flashing roms, and everything was all right. After a few months I noticed that I had no H+ any more.
Because I thought that the TELE-2 service was horrible I left it. Eventually I thought I was shut off, and because I'm more of a WiFi user, I left the issue.
Now, after a year, I decided to call TELE-2 and they tried to help me restoring my APN settings. Everything was all right but I still can't use 3g.
I can make calls, but as soon as I turn off WiFi, my network connectivity disappears and shows a exclamation mark.
entering *#*#4636#*#* gives me some information, but I'm not sure what to make of it. Roaming is enabled, HTTP client test gives:
FAIL: IOexeption.
I'm thinking this has something to do with my modem/ baseband?
Can someone point me to a correct thread because I'm not even sure what this issue is called.
Or perhaps teach me how to treat network connectivity issues in the future?
If further information is needed I'll fill it in. Remember, I have some knowledge, but I'm still pretty much a noob!
Bump?

Well, I would think you have either unlocked bootloader wrongly (usually slight chance) or flashed wrong FTF/ROM for your device.
Now I would suggest you go to STOCK ROM for your device first. You can flash it via flashtool
You would need FTF from general section and also flashtool which you can get from here
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
You can search xda for how to use it. If you still have questions, quote me and I would be glad to help

Yes, I tried it already, I found a Dutch Generic FTF, flashed it but it didn't work. If I remember correctly there was a option to only flash the Baseband/Radio.
I expected that something like that was broken and that reflashing the original might fix it. But alas, bad luck. Would it be a good idea to learn how to logcat?
Would it be helpful if I provided these?
Thanks in advance.

I would like you to check on your xperia Z box it's exact model number with baseband and every other detail you can provide. Also, tell me if you got it sim free or had a contract or something like that. Are you on unlocked bootloader ?

On a contract, but warranty doesn't matter. Unlocked Bootloader, Rooted, currently running 5.1 Resurrection.
All right, here goes:
- C6603
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900& UMTS/HSPA Bands 1/5/8 & LTE 1/3/5/7/8/20
- SI 1270-4181.6 NL
- S/N: CB5A1TNCA0
Let's hope this suffices. I presume that by flashing a ROM with wrong Baseband in the
past my phone can't communicate with the towers in my area; because every part of the world uses different frequencies?

Can you check which frequencies your network provider uses ?
Usually it's available on their websites. In the mean time I'll look for a ROM you can flash and see if that helps! We might be going to STOCK ROM !
Also check which model does your custom ROM shows!
In the pictures, you can clearly see the difference in basebands between C6602/03 models.

All right. I've tried to find out what frequenties my provider uses, asked around on the forum and it seems no one is willing to help me.
It seems they are not willing to disclose frequency information and keep changing subjects; also when other people ask this question.
This might make things a little harder. Also, you advised me to try out stock again, I'm willing to do this, but I have to say:
I hate Google. I hate them more than anything and would like to leave the stock experience as fast as possible.
Let us see what the steps are I should take now.
- Flash Stock ROM/Baseband
- ???
- Profit
As mentioned earlier, I tried this before, and it didn't work. So I must be missing something. Just in case I didn't explain my self well enough;
I can make calls, I can't use 3G/HSDPA. When using network monitor, everything fails, unless I reconnect with WiFi. My Bootloader is unlocked, and I
am rooted. Resurrection Team uses Evo kernel (Which I hate because it's pretty unstable.), However, My issues predate the kernel by far.
It seems I'm really failing in correctly flashing my device, because there always seems to be something wrong.
Either it gets extremely laggy, or it randomly reboots (2 to 3 times a day. Unable to reproduce.), No audio when calling unless on speaker and a plethora of other issues.
This could also explain why my internet doesn't work. But it seems unlikely for me to fail in correctly flashing my device for 2 years, don't you agree?
EDIT: Can't even use *#*#service#*#*, doesn't work like everything else.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. We love as much information we can have to answer your queries better.
I was trying to find out your network baseband because this would help me establish which STOCK ROM to flash. To inquire about your baseband, call your network provider from your phone and ask them these questions. Tell them you need to know for a phone you bought internationally and want to know if baseband matches or not. They would tell you in a moment.
I am sure you must know alot about flashing but sometimes, some roms are specific for certain models. Like it might be for a different baseband but not for other. Usually flashing roms doesnot play with your basebands but if you got some home brewed rom which is made over stock, this can actually mess up your device. Same goes for kernels if they are directed at a particular model, and it can act differently.
I am not sure why you blame Google as Sony is responsible for producing this phone so maybe enlighten me a bit ?? Sony has got custom UI , not actually Google.
What I would suggest is that flash an older FTF like KITKAT or Jeally Bean to your device and see if it works. Next if it doesnot, update your device using SONY COMPANION and not flashtool. Sometimes this also helps.
By the way do you have an official Sony care near your place ?

I blamed Google, because I genuinely hate them. They step on people, and violate human rights many people died defending. But that's a different story. Alas, I eventually flashed Stock 10.3.1.A.2.67; the first rom my phone came shipped with. It didn't work either. I'm starting to think that something might be broken because I don't have warranty any longer that would be a bummer. But let's continue. I can't use Sony update service because my bootloader is unlocked. And last time I checked it couldn't be relocked right? Also, there isn't anything like a Sony center near me.

Nope, saw a thread coming by this morning, also about TA partitions. I'm afraid that at the time I wasn't aware yet of the TA. Is this really bad or can it still be saved? When flashing
a rom, does it get overwritten?
Also, the SI number on my box says 1270-4181.6, yet the customization version on the phone states that I'm running 1270-4975_R3B. Even though I found a Dutch version.
Is this correct?

TA numbers are device specific and if lost, they can result in WIFI and Bluetooth problems for most users but it is rare. Sometimes relocking bootloader can fix these as well but you said you havenot been able to . Are you connecting in fastboot mode for that using flashtool?
I think you should look at this thread for SI number and try to change it accordingly. Remember only the first link is Xperia Z specific and other links for other devices which might work to change your SI

TA partitions have been successfully repaired by SONY service centres. you can mail them your phone and wait for them to return it back. Make sure you email/call before you dispatch your phone and make details accordingly!

Hey I remember that you have not tried this so I thought you should give it a try.
Sony Emma Flashtool

Try repairing your phone with this and see what happens.
Quote me in case you expect a reply. Good Luck
I've had this phone about a year and the reception on this thing has gone from awesome to almost nothing. I live in Madison, WI and was on ATT for years through most of my motorola phones. Thought their service was just turning into junk so I decided to give Mint Mobile a try, that was even worse (wasn't expecting AMAZING results given what it was) and then I tried Verizon. While Verizon has helped quite a bit, my data speeds don't go above 3Mbps. My call quality seems to be dropping and garbling my voice more and more. It seems like it all happened after I had gotten an update. I factory reset my phone hoping that'd help but it did nothing for me.
Anyone else have this happen? Probably buy a new phone which won't be another Motorola since they seem to be dropping the ball on their phones.
I'll say first that I haven't had this happen to my X4. If it really only happened after an update, it's entirely possible the modem firmware was updated and the new version doesn't want to play nice.
If you can unlock your bootloader use fastboot, you could try to flash a different modem firmware.
Same issue here after latest update. Not only does data keeps dropping, calls keep dropping also. In the middle of the conversation, I can hear other person talking to me, but they don't hear me all over sudden.
And I know this is a phone issue, not connection issue, because this is happening in a location that in the past there were no problems at all.
Just for clarification for those having issues... What variant (1900-1, -7, etc.) are you using? Is it the regular edition or the Android one? And most importantly, which update was received when the problems started?
