Meridian Player Errors - Touch CDMA Android Development

I also posted on the Meridian google group, but wondered if the problems I'm seeing might be due to these Vogue Android Builds.
I can browse my music collection, and play individual artists and
albums, and genres, but when I select "All Songs" I get a message
saying "Can't access SD card". I also get a force close or please
report error when selecting All from the PlayQ list.
Could this be a limitation of the software no being able to
load large music collections (2000+ songs)?
I'd really like to get this player working. It seems to have the right
idea with the rating tags that can be used to create custom playlists.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, help or info about other people seeing
this problem.

I'm not sure if this matters, but are you running android off SD? If so, that may be messing with the program's "accessing SD card"

your probably right about that. also look at the reviews for that application in the market. cause i know that meridian has always had problems. and when they fix those issues theres always new issues.

Thanks for the responses you all. I am running of SD, and I suspected that might be part of the problem. I'm not ready to jump to NBH yet (battery life is an issue for me), but I was thinking of trying the ext partition install to see if it helped. Meridian player does seem a bit buggy, but I haven't seen anything else (including on WM) that lets you edit the song rating tag and then compile playlists based on those ratings, so I'm hoping to get it working.

Battery life when running nand (nbh) is the same if not much better than from sd. and many people get better battery life on android than wm if that's what u mean.

SuperCSDI Music Problems

**Bringing this thread back up because it's a serious concern of mine and I am really hoping that someone knows how to fix this**
Ok so I am running the SuperCSDI Modified by MLIGN. It is awesome. I love it. It's fast Yada yada yadaaa..
I am having a slight issue though. It's is not the application because I tried with several.
When I try to play music on this ROM, it doesn't play. The applications can't find the music in my /sdcard. When I go into Astro File Manager and try to start up music from there, it says "File type mp3 not found"
I'm guessing fixing this would involve flashing something or adding a library or something so I would be very grateful if someone could help me or point me the right way

I haven't had this issue at all, and I use my device to listen to music almost constantly. Also using SuperCSDI.

JP6 Issues

The first thing I noticed was the need to download and install a new version of Task Manager through the Market.
Reinstalled all applications through AppBrain as the Market did not retain the record of my downloads.
Added Apps to my Home screens with no worries.
Today after Power Off the phone took ages to restart. Holding down the power on button solicited a vibration from the phone and then some time later the phone started.
After Power Off some of the applications on my Home screen disappeared:
Angry Birds
Cestos 2
Find Differences
Meteorlite WVGA
Slugs
After adding them back to the home screen I switched off again and back on. Same issue.
Same applications disappeared from the home screen and another App called Open Sudoku.
Anyone experiencing these issues on their i9000.?
Thinking of doing a factory reset of the phone, clearing the cache, format internal memory. Complete clean.
Start again.
Thought?
Starting fresh would be best and only option imho. On a sidenote have you noticed if you moved App 2 SD , the SD card doesn't get mounted when in external mode? I have as yet looked into it but I noticed I've lost external SD but it works fine inside the phone

Don't even know how to get into external mode. All the applications were installed at the same time so I assume they were all install to the same location. Your idea could be a valid one though. I have noticed Froyo is scanning for media each time the device is turned on. It's posible the icons are lost as a result of not retaining this information until the scan picks up on it.

Yep found out the Market/AppBrain had created a new profile as a result of the phones identification changing from phone to Samsung Galaxy S. Moving the applications across solved the problem.

I did a complete clean of the device and left the external memory card out of it while installing. All issues appear to be resolved for now but will continue to monitor it.
Found a new problem. Movie playback. Sound and video is out of sync by as much as 10 sec.
The movie plays perfectly on my laptop. Its a divx which I was led to believe can be played on this device. 25frames per sec video, sound is 112kbps, 2 channel, 48khz.
Any thoughts on this issue.
Problem solved.
Looks like Samsung lost the plote on this issue as well.
Running the movie in the built in player results in a sync problem between sound and video, 5 to 10sec.
Play the movie in Rockplayer Universal and the movie plays perfectly.
Is their an alternative player I can use which is free?

Mvideoplayer it is then.
Noticed when I add an external SD, Froyo creates two folders on the SD. Namely .android_secure and LOST.DIR
Any ideas on what creates these and for what or why?
Mvideoplayer has the same issues as the internal Samsung player. Out of sync sound and video. I get the feeling Samsung buggered something up with the coding for xvid and divx.
Two players with the same issues.
When I tested Rockplayer Universal it asked me if I should use the SystemMode or NormalMode. SystemMode I think uses Samsung System Files in some way and the result was a problem with alignment sound and video. Tested Rockplayer Universal in NormalMode I think used it's own internal files and it ran perfectly.
I guess JP6 is not as release worthy as we think it is.
When i first installed JP6 via kies had problems with apps not appearing on the android widget screen, the market icon didn't appear needed to do a facotry reset for that one, was slow and lagged. When i'm browsing for apps in the market place, using the 3g network, there was a constant error message popping up and couldn't download.
OCLF didn't work at first! needed to do a factory reset and then run the oclf, after which most of these problems seem to have been resolved, don't know how but now runs smoothly. Big thanks to ryan!!!!! samsung should employ you for their android software development team.
God help the sgs newbies who don't know about android, i jumped ship from the iphone 3g.

[Q] Doubletwist and removable SD

Is there any way to get Doubletwist to recognize and store my files on the removable SD instead of the phone's internal "media area"? I'm filling up the latter quite fast, while the external card is nearly empty. I can't find any setting in DT that lets you choose where to store music on the device.
I know that Doubletwist's publisher has been promising a "fix" for about five months now, but I figured someone here might have come up with something on their own.
Any help appreciated. TIA
Alternatively, any recommendations on a player with desktop iTunes sync functionality and flexibility in storage locations on the Bionic?
This is a known issue with the Bionic and DoubleTwist. I submitted a ticket with Doubletwist support, and they confirm that the software is not working properly with ExternalSD on the Bionic.
I uploaded my DeviceID information for them, and the support agent promised that it would be fixed in the next release. They offered no workaround. Sorry
I've been using Songbird with MediaSync to get around the issue, but it does no transcoding, which is less-than-ideal.
It's because Moto made /sdcard the internal memory and /sdcard-ext the external as opposed to the normal /emmc and /sdcard for internal and external respectively.
This problem is shared with the x2 and d3 and there is a fix, I"m just not sure if it was adapted to the Bionic yet.

I use Easy Phone Tunes Plus on my Bionic and it works fine for me. Easy Phone Tune has a free version that you can try to see if you like it. It's also available for PC or Mac.
Thanks for the info!
@kraamerica, does Easy Phone Tunes Plus store files on sd-ext? That's my bigger issue, really: Even with syncing only a portion of my music, I run out of space quickly. Kind of a bite to have the SD card there and not be able to use it.

I will look this afternoon when I get back to my PC. That's where you control the syncing and it's pretty good and letting you choose what you want to sync (including podcasts) I just can't remember if there is a "where".
When you 1st establish a connection through the setting's of the Easy Phone Application, it will show your "2" phones (one is your internal, the other external). You would chose the 2nd "phone" unless you have the SD card swap in place.
Then you go through the rest of what you what synced in the next section of the setup and you are good to go. Or so I would hope.

RAZR i: PC Software for Media?

Hey can anyone recommend good software for managing media? I particularly want to transfer photos easily. I have a program for music, but I'm open to recommendations. I know that Samsung has Kies and Sony has Media Go, both are useful. Does Motorola have any official media software?

Try AirDroid. The transfer is over wifi and you can transfer almost everything. Besides it is a file manager, ftp server, system manager...
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm really looking for PC/laptop software, I find it really easy to manage media from there. I see Songbird will only connect in Mass Storage Mode and Songbird is OK for music but not pictures. I'll find something eventually!

Well according to the download on Play it says not.
You mentioned Medio Go so presumably you also use it? You can copy your photos etc in to Media Go and simply select your folder/s from there and select “Add to” Your phone will then show up as “Unnamed device” with the sub-options of moving them to internal or external memory, or you can simply transfer them directly from your pictures folder. No offence intended but I don’t see the problem.
This is my first Motorola (and also Android) phone, but they sure don’t seem too concerned about providing PC media management.
How about google Picasa?
No worries, I get it; if you have use for something, you understand, if you don't need something, you won't understand. A few of my other devices (Apple and Sony) allow for quick and automatic movement of media from A to B or vice versa just by connecting the devices, I'm looking for the same now. I've been using the 10 camera shot per second feature and the photos are really stacking up. Drag and drop is a bit too 1990s for me. I've uninstalled Media Go now, I thought it didn't even recognise non-Sony devices? I'll give it a go then, if you say it appears.
True about Motorola and PC management, everywhere related to my phone it directs me to Motocast. I emailed them and they said the RAZR i is not compatible. Nevermind, I'll find something.
All I’m saying is that you can transfer files/folders via Media Go using “Add to” on right-clicking in Windows.
Whether this is the functionality you’re actually looking for I’m not sure but it works for me. I’ve used it to transfer a couple of albums and a number of tracks over (although my Walkman is my main portable music source), and after reading your thread I thought I’d see how it works with photos and no problems.
Just tried it out with iTunes but there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way of doing the same: there may be,but I can’t be bothered to find out!
Thanks buddy, I appreciate your help.
For music, if you do like iTunes, I have a recommendation. There is an app called iSyncr which allows you to copy any lists in your iTunes directly to your phone. If you use their Rocket Player to use the music, it will update your playcounts etc. Music at least, I've got covered! :good:

[Q] Things to know before beginning a music player app for WP8

First of all, hello to everybody. I have just joined xdaDevelopers.
To business now..
I recently bought my first Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia 520). One of the reasons for getting it was for developing my own WP8 apps.
I would like to start with a music player app - one that can play mp3 files from phone memory and SD card; arrange songs according to name, albums and artists; create playlists; have capabilties of fast foward and rewind (seeking); and recognise album arts.
What do I need to know before I can start building it?
I have zero experience in app development; I am a web designer.
I noticed that there are very few "polished" music players (which function properly as well as have a nice UI) in the WP store. Any particular reason for that (other than the platform being relatively new)?
I created this post mainly because the lack of quality music players appeared a bit strange to me. I have heard that a particular file type can be accessed by only one app (please correct me if I am wrong). So does it mean that one has to somehow uninstall the default music player in order to use the newly downloaded one?
For instance, I have "Adobe Reader" which can read PDFs from my MicroSD card. But the "PDF Reader" app (which I installed just yesterday) cannot even find them! So I had to uninstall the latter.
So I wanted to know if there was something about WP8 that doesn't allow such things - if these "security measures", which render apps like file managers less useful, are also responsible for the lack of music players in this otherwise very fantastic platform.
Please note that I come from Android, and am very new to Windows Phone platform. So kindly point out if there's something incorrect about my assumptions.
Thanks and regards.
Hi,
Welcome to Windows Phone. The Lumia 520 is a great choice in my humble opinion. In regards to why there are so few music apps, there are probably several reasons. One such is the fact, that the easiest way to make one is to integrate with the built-in music features, which however limits you in several ways, like not being able to add more file types, not being able to customize the experience too much, playlisting is limit as far as I know, which basically puts you in the position, that the only actual improvement you can do upon that is implementing a new streaming service. The other route is to implement your own music player, but then you're going to have issues making it work in the background (not to mention, that implementing a music player isn't entirely simple).

1. Make sure you have hardware for it. I recommend a minimum of Windows 8 Pro 64bit, but you can find instructions for Windows 7 on this forum as well. You'll need VT-x support on your CPU, plenty of RAM.
2. Download and install the WP8 SDK.
3. Once you open Visual Studio, you can start by creating a new project, you'll need a UI project (I recommend Windows Phone App or HTML5 App templates) and a music playback project (WP Audio Playback Agent -OR- WP Audio Streaming Agent).
4. For tutorials on how to get started I usually go to Pluralsight.com, because I have a subscription there, and they're plain awesome, but I'm sure there are a bunch of other sources as well, which are for free.

If you have both Adobe Reader and PDF Reader installed, once you tap on a PDF file (say after downloading one in IE) an option should appear for you to select which app you wanna open it with.

You can install and use as many audio/music apps you like, but obviously only one can have the background music feature used at one time. (You can only have one music playing in the background).
Also:
"Developers must pay an annual subscription fee of $99, (this, according to Todd Brix, the General Manager for Windows Phone Apps and Store team, is currently on an ongoing promotion at $19) to become an App Hub member and submit apps to the Windows Phone Store. There's no limit on the number of free submissions for paid apps. There's a limit of 100 free submissions for free apps; thereafter, there's a fee of $19.99 per submission for free apps." - Wikipedia
Hope I helped, and happy coding!
:fingers-crossed:
@TheGoldrocker: Thank you for your reply. It did clear up quite a few things.
As of now, I am okay with "integrating with the built-in music features" as you said.
What I want to do is modify the UI and UX a bit. Some of the features can be as follows -
1. Introducing a scroll bar;
2. Option to get rid of the grouping system by name;
3. Control over the font size;
4. Allowing the currently playing song to continue if I select the song (currently it starts playing from the beginning);
5. Enabling the seeking feature (tapping the timeline of the song so as to play from that point of time);
6. Having a tile feature in the start screen with options to pause, change song, etc (number of options would depend upon the length of the song);
7. Showing the album art of the currently playing song in the tile;
8. Having an animated background in the app (just a wide photo which slowly slides from left to right).
Am I allowed to do the above?
You're welcome.
"Integrating with the built-in music features" doesn't mean you get to rewrite the UI/functionality of the current Music+Videos app. What it means is, you get to use the built-in classes for simplifying music playback in your new app. You'll still have to build up a new UI around your classes, you'll also have to write quite a few lines of code for the playback functionality (but obviously way less than if you tried to write your own music player from scratch).
Now sadly I cannot answer all of your questions with absolute certainty, because I haven't tried writing a music player yet, but I'll give them a shot.
I numbered your list:

1. Yes, since you'll have to make a new UI from scratch, and you'll have the ability to include any logic behind it you want.
2. Yes, the grouping can be avoided AFAIK.
3. Same as 1.
4. Same as 1.
5. Don't think so. Someone else with more knowledge will have to answer this to be sure, though.
6. If you mean a tile on the start screen, which, when tapped will play/stop/next/prev/whatever and STAY on the start screen? No. Tiles (sadly) always open a program (even if for only a millisecond). You can use this for deeplinking to favorite songs/playlists/streaming services though, which is cool.

By "deeplinking", do you mean pinning songs to the start screen by 'long pressing' on them?
I do hope that Microsoft introduces interactive tiles in some future update. Sort of start screen widgets.

Deeplinking is launching an app with a link toward a specific page with parameters. Imagine it as a URL to a specific page on a website. If your app and pages support it, you could tap on a tile (say on the start screen), which opens your app, and instantly navigates to a playlist, album, song, whatever you made that tile link to.
Pinning items to the start screen can be triggered by anything you want. You, the coder, decides how you're gonna allow the user to pin their songs/albums/playlists/artists/whatever.
Here's a little tutorial on this topic:

Okay, thanks. I'll have a look at that.
To make a media player for windows phone is to know insanity.
Why we no join forces?
There are a couple fo things the guys here forgot to tell you:
You can not read Mp3 files from SD card.
You can not read mp3 files from the user music folder.
You only have access to web resources or your app's isolated storage.
You basically have to engineer a way to get them to the app storage.

Well, that's why I will try to "integrate with the built-in music features". Hopefully it will be okay then.
I am not trying to make the next best thing in the music player app category.
I am just trying to make one which has a slightly different UI and is able to play mp3s.
Sort of a project of mine.
By the way, can someone please tell me if I can use technologies like HTML5 to create this app? Actually I don't know C#.
Or should I learn C# before attempting this app?
