My First Thread... Need help finding FiOS app - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, I am no longer a thread starter virgin...
I'm currently running Damage's 2.1 v5 and when I was running Flipz's Eris port I was able to download the FiOS app for control of my DVR, however since I've moved to the sprint leak, I can't find it in the market. Is this because I'm not using a verizon verison of 2.1 or more likely my protected apps aren't working right?
Anyways, I've pulled the info from both /system/app and /data/app and the only things in there was a zip that had verizon's name on it no apks that were for the FiOS app, so I signed the zip, put them on my sd card and flashed them. Nothing happed....
So, can someone running 2.1 from the Eris leak or who's protected apps work correctly get me an apk for the FiOS mobile app? It's a free download...

Just make a nandroid (nandroid+ext if you use apps2sd) and flash an eris-based rom. Download the app, and use Backup For Root Users (free from android market) to back up the app (check apk and hit "backup") then nandroid restore to the rom of your choice. Download backup for root users from the market, check apk, and hit "restore". The app is now in your app list. Hope this helped.

Stock 2.1 Apps working on Vibrant

Hey, not sure if this really belongs here, or in General, but since its semi-hacking the system, I'll post here first.
It seems, so far, that Touchwiz isn't nearly as deeply integrated as Sense is, and that at least some of Samsung's Modified Apps can just be backed-up, deleted, and replaced with the stock apps from Android 2.1 (using apps ripped from CM5.0.8 for Nexus 1 for my attempts.)
So, I thought I'd start a list of stock Android 2.1 apps that people have made work on the vibrant. I know a lot of people are waiting for CM or other custom roms and alternate recovery images, but in the mean time, lets start customizing!
I have confirmed the following to work, but only after the original touchwiz apps are deleted from /system/app, then the stock apps are installed via the standard installer to /data/app and cp over to /system/app then reboot
Music.apk
DeskClock.apk
Calendar.apk
CalendarProvider.apk
GenieWidget.apk
Mms.apk (NEW! added 7/21/2010)
Another pleasant surprise, is that I now have the default Calendar, music, and news & weather widgets on my vibrant!
Again, adb push didn't work for anything since I can't remount with r/w access yet, but a su adb shell allowed me to busybox cp them to /sytem/app once they were installed.
I've tried the same method with the CM5.0.8 LiveWallpapers with no success, so maybe someone else has some suggestions?
My next step is to test out bringing the original phone.apk and contacts.apk/contactsprovider.apk over
7/21/2010
Got the default messaging app from CM 5.0.8 brought over, still having tons of trouble with the default dialer and contacts/contacts provider, samsung has buried their signature for these deep in android somewhere, even outside of /data/system/packages.xml so any attempt to install the CM versions even after removing the Touchwiz apps fail.
7/22/2010
Pushed ADW Launcher to system, works like a charm! However, removing the TouchWiz30Launcher apk/odex and replacing with adw or launcher pro generates constant FC's for me, so sadly, it looks like it has to stay installed for now.
cheers everyone!
where did you get the N1 files? I have been meaning to try this as well.

I just downloaded CM 5.0.8 for the N1, and have been pulling the apk's out of /system/app
cheers!
I actually installed the News & Weather app yesterday by just putting it on the SD Card and using ASTRO to install.. nothing special for that app.

I was about to say the same thing, I just did an ADB install for this, didn't need to delete anything from data/app or anything.
It's cool to hear that the other stuff works though.

The Gapps for 2.1, same CM Nexus thread.
Here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623496
Sorry for the confusion about 'news and weather' I just meant I was unable to adb push the apk directly to system. It installs fine by default to /data/app but I wanted it in /system/app to survive resets, hence the busybox cp.
So far no luck with contacts/contactsprovider =(
Every version I try give me an install failed error, regardless of removing all traces of the samsung versions, even their references in /data/system/packages.xml
So is the music app from CM5.08 elliot's music mod?

I'm honestly not sure how to tell if it is.
I pulled the Music.apk straight out of the /system/app dir from the CM 5.0.8 update for the Nexus 1.
cheers
can anyone provide News and Weather widget from stock OS. I think its the best news app.
Grab the 'Google Apps' addon for CM 5.0.8 for the nexus one, unzip it, and copy 'GenieWidget.apk' to your phone to install it.
cheers!

Any word on if the stock launcher works? I don't really like ADW or Touchwiz

Hi again.
I haven't tried deleting the touchwiz launcher yet, but I'm using launcherPro Plus (and playing with ADW too, I really like that ADW supports the touchwiz horizontal style 'paging' in the app drawer, and hope launcher pro eventually supports it too) and they both work quite well, and should work fine when pushed into /system/app too.
Will update if I'm brave enough to remove the TW launcher, probably not tonight though, just spent the last 3 hours trying to get the stock dialer & contacts, and it was an epic fail, samsung has buried the touchwiz dialer/contacts signature deep, so no matter what I try, I always get an Install_failed_update_incompatible error when pushing the stock apps to the phone.
This is the same error I first received with the calendar, but a simple settings->applications->manage applications 'uninstall' of the remaining TWCalendar and Provider, and a reboot cleared that error, sadly that's not the case with dialer and contacts.
Maybe a wipe would fix this, but I'll wait another day or so to see how the clockwork custom recovery pans out, plus I need to make sure nandroid works so I can backup before I try that.
It also might be linked to something buried in the TW framework, I don't know, but I'm so not brave enough to mess with frameworks yet.
cheers everyone
Root Explorer allows your mount and unmount system drives btw. I like using it over ADB bc I can do it on the bus or train while commuting.
If I want to install the Stock 2.1 Calendar App, do I need to install the Calendar provider apk as well? I know the answer seems obvious but I just want to check

I'm honestly not sure if the CalendarProvider.apk is necessary, but I replaced the touchwiz provider with it for good measure.
cheers.
Okay, I keep getting App not installed error, Ive removed TW Calendar and TW Calendar provider apk and odex from system, but I still get the error when trying to install Calendar.apk

[Q] Nook Color Apps Repository.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all the Great work !! I am a noob and this is my first android powered device. I would like to know if there is a repository for all the known running apps on NC.
I've managed to root the device fine. However I don't know where to get all these APK's that people here are using.
Thanks.
I spotted two alternative app stores that I installed and both working nicely. Andappstore and the other is SlideMe Marketplace. This second one needs a SD card to work since apparently it saves APKs there.
So you just go there and download any apk you want, there is no device specific apk? All apk's are created equal ??

SlideMe has a compatibility button you can push to check if NC will run the APK. So far, it's worked quite well for me - everytime an app says it can be installed and run fine, it does. Barring of course, the Google Apps, which aren't working right now. But make sure you have an SD card and give it a go

I haven't downloaded a whole lot but the ones I have installed without issues. And SlideMe even has an uninstall option. That is if you go back to the installed apk's own page in the market.
I just download with my phone then use appmonster and send all the apk to sd. Then send to dropbox.

[Q] How to get stock apps?

Hi there.. I'm a newbie in this HD2 forum as I'm just helping my friend to flash her new NAND rom.. But what I've found is the there is no stock apps such as youtube or google maps.. and I don't know how to download it either as Android Market don't have it.
Please reply here ASAP.. your help is much appreciated.
EDIT: Tried the method on downloading the file from Android market on computer.. Failed. Any ideas?
Google 'gapps.zoo's for the stock Google apps.
As for the Market, you can't get it unless it came preinstalled in the ROM.
but you can try to find it.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
If you have Market the google apps have to be installed by looking for the app and then installing one at a time. I have always used adb and fastboot or the pm (package manager) command from inside the shell before I came here as I work for a board vendor. and I know it is possible to also to extract the apk from either /data/ or /system from another board or a zip of a ROM. Internally Market maybe using the pm or am api of some sort and using the market uri instead of a local file.
the seasoned ROM cookers usually have some type of provision to get market onto your phone, a flashable file or some other method, pongster's roms and I think cyanogen's as well allow you to get market after you have flashed the rom.

[Q] Installing an apk w/out market

In the ongoing battle to not have the market crash on launch (rooted stock 1.3 running 4.6.16 and I fixed permissions with ROM manager) I've noticed that titanium backup seems to be a start for a few potential fixes. That said - I have to actually install the bloody thing and w/out market access that's proving tough.
I d'loaded the apk via. the built-in browser. It's on my SD card. But I can't seem to find any way for the built-in app-laucher to....well, launch. When I run the apk's from the browser I get 2 options:
Complete action (running apk) using:
* App Installer (which when clicked says it's unable to install and that I should archive then unarchive the app and try again)
* Package installer (which says there's a prob. parsing the package).
I've got what I assume to be non-market app's checked off in NC Tools (it's the blank box in NC Tools with nothing next to it that people talk about).
Any suggestions to get the bloody apk working?
Sounds like a badly packaged .apk. It also has that error whenever I try to install Honeycomb specific apps.

Did you enable non-market installs?
Do as Dizzy said or find another apk to install, if it keep crashing then try install some another ROM like CM7.

In the NC tools I do have what is supposed to be the non-market installs checked off (but with it being a blank box of text next to it, I'm not positive).
I guess it might be a bad apk, but I got it from the TB site directly. I tried ES File Explorer too. It would seem all apk's I'ev tried give the same error. I'm not sure if maybe B&N somehow hobbled the ability to install apk's with their 1.3 update.

I had CM7 on for a few days, but with the market not working well on it (market determined that the nook wasn't compatible with any of the apps, even with the LCD resize), and with a subscription to PC mag via. B&N I went back to stock rooted 1.3.
Any other suggestions? I was thinknig of trying MIUI if things in CM7 or the Nootered stock don't resolve themselves.

MIUI is just a themed outdated cm7. I don't see how that would help.
Can you get any .apks to install?

I just finished the Android SDK/Java route to push apk's to the NC. I've successfully installed Titanium, ES File explorer, Opera Mobile and SwiFTP to my NC via the SDK route. While I don't have market access, I guess it will be ok for now....I sure wish the Market worked properly though....nice 'n convenient. Ah well.
[EDIT] One thing I did try to get the market to work was uninstall Flash 10.3. I put on 10.2 & reset permissions. No dice for what it's worth....if somebody's keeping a list of things that don't work.

Interestingly, if I try to use the default browser to install appbrain (www.appbrain.com/install), or even Opera mobile to install it, .... it results in a flash screen (rotating flash dots in the middle) that crashes after a second....just like when I (attempt to) launch the Market.

[Q] How do you install android market app ?

I have the cricket zio, with a z4 root, either rooted or unrooted; the problem is: a while ago, i somehow managed to get the android market app uninstalled and moved to the sd card- yeh, i know, a system app,- and then along the line somewhere i formatted the sd card and factory reset the phone...the market app was gone. Now, even though i downloaded a 3.3.11 ver of android market apk, it forces close before it even gets going, after installation..
questions are: what version of android market apk is cricket zio running? what specific directory is the app located? what file folders should i have as factory default? i have froyo.

yeh...thanks...now i have to buy a file browser that allows write access to the system folder.. I finally found and downloaded a compatible market apk. for my cricket zio, version 2.2.6, and then found out the free file browser i was using, Droid Explorer, didn't allow write privileges in folders that are read only, like the system folder. Otherwise its all good..was ready to forget this phone, even though i have full access to the amazon appstore.
Did you get it to work? Let me know if you need help. Gtalk with me [email protected]
