Hi all , just getting into this mobile phone rom upgrade stuff and I really appreciate all the good work you guys are doing. I have tried a few different roms and radio roms and seem to have a common problem as the phone doesn't ring anymore. It flashes and audibly lets me know I missed a call but when actually ringing there is nothing. Anyone familiar with this?
Thanks in advance

No, I am sure the ringer works on my ROM, so try that. There is a link in my signature. Also make sure the ringer volume is turned up. There are seperate controlls for ringer and media volume.

If you don't feel like reflashing try using a program called "diamond tweak" I'm sure there is a link to the cab file somewhere on xda or try here http://montecristoff.webs.com/diamondtweak.htm
It lets you change a lot of cool things including your ringer.

I'm having a problem with my XDA Stellar. O2 always displays your credit on screen after and call/text in the form of a network message. The thing is i can't find out if you can turn off the sound for these alerts. I've tried changing everything under "sounds and notifications" but it doesn't seem to be in there. The only way i can stop it making noise is to turn the sound off on the phone completely which means i then have to turn it back on before using something like tomtom.
So my question is, can this sound be turned off and if not can the alert be turned off altogether?
Thanks
Perhaps kaiser tweak will help.

No, unfortunately as good as KaiserTweak is, it has nothing to help me.
Bump. Does anyone have any idea on what to do about this as it's becoming a serious problem
when the message comes in, which sound does it make?
What im trying to get at is maybe the phone is seeing it as a system even/warning which you can't change through the drop down list but you can disable. Try going to sounds and notifications and on the first page there untick "Events (warnings, system events)" and see if that stops them from making a sound
My wife had this with her 6230i - the solution was to phone O2 and ask them to turn off the notification at their end.

Yeah, thats what I did to disable text message sounds. It works. Settings>Sounds&Notifications>Notifications Tab.....and im sure you'll figure out the rest.
How is this a serious problem? Someone that has cancer has a serious problem.. Anyways, turning off the sent notification in the KaiserTweak didn't work for you? Maybe one of the registry gurus can figure it out.

It plays the "notify" sound. I can turn off literally everything in sounds and notifications including events and programs and it still makes a noise. the only way to stop it is to turn all sound off.

Yeah i think this is what its going to come down to. I thought it was worth asking first incase someone knew how to turn just the sound off.

The reason its becoming a problem is mainly down to TomTom. I havent yet bought an in-car holder as i'm waiting for one with a stereo audio jack, so when i use tomtom i rely on the sound as i cant actually see the screen. Yesterday (and many times before) i needed to use tomtom but i forgot the sound was off. So whilst driving i suddenly realised i didnt know where i was going and i wasnt being told. I'm sure you're aware its not very easy to turn the sound on without looking at the screen so i had to find somewhere to stop during rush hour. Not fun.
I have turned off sent notification but it isn't that thats causing the problem it's because O2 send a network alert telling you your credit everytime you've used some of it.
Thanks for all the responses. I think i'm going to give O2 a ring and ask them to turn it off. If anyone knows how to turn just the sound off though it would be really useful.
well, if its just a problem of you accidentally starting tomtom with no sound.....then i suggest you use tomtom starter
http://www.klaes.nl/
it will automatically change you volume to the max when you start tomtom
Hmmm that looks very interesting. Thanks i'll give it a go.
Hello!
Congratulations for the job!
I have installed the last xdandroid on my Touch Diamond2.
Everything perfect, but when the mobile is going in sleep mode, the green LED lights up, when it stays in this state I can not receive calls until restart it, although when I call my number, tone is heard ..
Any ideas?
Thanks

I am sorry but the problem is in the kernel and there is nothing that can be done right now only by fixing the kernel.
no problem, xdandroid is a great work, thanks for the answer.
Hi,
I am real wondering that people ask for ROMS when this bug is still there.
I can live without sound, Flash, maybe WIFI but to receive calls is a basic.
-Are there people do not have this problem
- Is this depending if you have Monodie or not?
- Is there something I can help with debuging? It looks for me the whole call service is geting struggeling when green LED comes.
Please understand,
The developement is so incredible to change from a crap WM6.5 phone to Froyo the MUST HAVE feeling is so strong.
That's why
Cheers and thanks

I'm reading that too, but on the other hand many people are stating they're using XDAndroid for days without the call sleep bug. And they have the same kernel as me, so that makes you wonder...
Has anyone tried this possible workaround?
Lost Signal Workarround
Hi, I tried,
If Startup.txt is with ...pm_sleep_mode=3 then it works but lot of draining
if standart startup.txt have sleep problem

Dirk
I'm using pm_sleep_mode=2 which seems to be a good trade off between battery and the sleep problem. Sometimes after the phone has been going awhile outgoing calls don't work but incoming ones do. That can be fixed by going into airplane mode and back out again.
I tried all values 0 to 4 for pm_sleep_mode, but no luck. I even made sure I had a new data.img created every time for every value. Nothing. First incoming call immediately goes wrong.
First time poster, all, so be please be gentle!
I've got a problem that I've not seen anyone else ask about or reference. For some time now, my Captivate has not been ringing when I receive a regular phone call. However, it does: play media files with sounds as normal; play notification sounds; play game sounds; alarm sounds when the alarm goes off. In fact, the only sound-type application it has any problem with is ringing on an incoming call.
I'm not a complete noob, so please assume that I've checked all the usual suspects (silent mode, vibrate mode, using stock ringtone vs. custom, physical volume up/down buttons, rebooting, etc.) However, if you know of a more esoteric setting that could be missed, I'm dying to hear about it.
I'm running Cognition 2.3b1 or 2.3b2 at the moment, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this problem began before upgrading, although I've been using Cognition before the Froyo update; I really don't think it's an issue with Cog, especially as I haven't seen anyone complain of the same symptom.
Is there perhaps some system level directive along the lines of incoming_call_ring=NEVER that I've somehow, someway triggered and just don't know how to undo?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help! I enjoy these forums and the sense of community, even though I generally just lurk
If it really has been going on since before you flashed I think you know the answer to your question
Sorry to hear that.
Have you tried master clear? If it persists then flash to stock.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I haven't tried master clear yet, good suggestion. By this weekend I should probably be at just the right ratio of desperation vs time to give that a try. I'll post back here after.
Not just me!
It would seem that this is affecting a small number of Captivate owners. The solution was suprisingly simple and effective: push in the 'speaker' with your thumb. Guess the speaker isn't locked in as tightly as it should be, or is prone to short-circuiting. Haven't had any more problems since pushing it in, go figure!
Anyway, see this thread for more details:

Just flashed Serendipity, so far I like it. I do have one quick question tho:
Is it possible to have my phone set up to vibrate when I receive Texts/Phonecalls with this ROM?
I've tried everything that I can think of in the settings menu and haven't had any luck yet. And I searched the Serendipity ROM thread but didn't find anything specifically talking about this.

Go to Settings->Sound and set Vibrate to always, but I don't know that that works for SMS, you may have to set that manually, so go into the SMS app, then go menu->settings there, then go to notification settings and set vibrate to always in there as well.
In the sound settings, gor for the last option. It's disabled, so choose the option above it, turn it on, set the vibrate strenght and turn off the above one, it will save the options and vibration strength.
Attempted both of those:
I have my vibration intensity turned up to the maximum level and still have absolutely no vibration whatsoever.
Does anyone know of a vibration fix or anything for the Captivate that might alleviate this issue?
Try this: go into the SMS app>Settings>Notification Settings>Vibrate Pattern
You can set it to Normal/Medium/Long/Multiple Short/Multiple Long.
That should work for you!

I believe you are talking about the "Haptic Feedback", right? If so, then I don't think this effects incoming notifications. That is only for the vibration per screen touch...
Tried what you mentioned seth and still have no luck.
I have no haptic feedback and have no vibration when receiving a phonecall or text message.
I attached some screen captures I took showing that I have the proper boxes checked.
I have no vibration whatsoever however. I receive no haptic feedback when I hit my home soft key and I receive no vibration when I receive a text/phone call.
I'm kind of at a loss for what to do because I haven't seen any other threads about similar issues around the forum. Any ideas?
edit: oh, BTW, I flashed back to stock and then flashed Phoenix ROM thinking maybe I had a bad flash with the flashing of the Serendipity ROM but the problem persists.
Does it work on stock?

Hmm. Well that sucks.
The loss of my haptic and vibration is really the only thing not working exactly like I want it to so I guess I'll just do without unless something else begins to act up.
Thanks for the input tho.

Happened on my iPhone before I got my Captivate. Got so used to it, I disable all vibrating/haptic on every rom anyway.
Most of the time if you are having trouble with vibration settings, download the "Sound Manager" app from the Market. It can fix a lot of notification problems.
Anyone besides me notice this is posted in the COMPLETELY wrong section?

Any app that you recently installed which you may think might be causing any kind of conflict with ringtones? Going over the obvious, have you gone through the audio settings and ensured a ringtone is actually selected? Because I've seen this being reset on quite a few custom ROMs...

Bump anyone??
I have the same problem with .mp3 ringtones & if I set an .mp3 for SMS notifications. They work for about 24 hours if I reboot my SGS, then stop working.
Re-install of current ROM (Darky's v9.5) makes no difference to this problem
sorry, i'm still having the same issue, there is a newer firmware out now, so may upgrade and see if this resolves the issue.
