Phone never to lock or time out - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

with the new blue tooth in my car my phone works perfect but every time it locks it disconnects from the car. I have it set to never timeout but it doesn't seem to work at least for the lock screen, the phone will still lock automatically. I need the phone to never go into the lock screen unless I purposely want it to.. anything out there?

Settings --> Application Settings --> Development --> Stay Awake (while charging/plugged in). Check this off.
Note: the behavior of your phone is broken. The bluetooth should NOT disconnect when the screen times out. Something on yours is broken, I don't know what. A wipe might fix this in case it is a setting. Otherwise you should look at the system image you are using and try something else that isn't broken.

TomTom screen timeout?

Hi,
I have tomtom navigator 6 working fine on my tytn2 but after a few minuets the screen times out and goes black, u then have to press the power button for it to come back but it then looses the gps and u have to wait a few secs before it comes back.
Is there any way to leave screen on all the time for tomtom?
Thanks
Jason
Adjust your power settings.
But that will change it for everything and it will hurt my battery life. surley there must be a fix for this type of program or something?
Thanks
Jason
I have never had a problem with TomTom and screen timeout, I think I have seen some settings for it in TomTom itself...
My TT6 has worked just fine from day 1...not sure what I did, if anything to keep the screen on.
Already had a good look and there isnt any settings for it.
Are you sure you haven't set the safety settings on TomTom to turn off the screen over a certain speed?
From your description I don't think this is the case. Weird problem though, I don't get it on mine.
wierd issue, to add to this i keep getting the pin screen appear after about 15-20 mins when using TomTom, yes i do have the pin enabled and its set for 0mins so when the screen times out its on, but i have configured it to 5, 15 mins with the same effect, the sceen just reverts to pin after around 15-20mins (i have to have this enables as my work exchange requires (read force) it), which generally means i have to type in my set pin to get tomtom back.... not good.......

You have to look harder buddy. Run Tomtom then go to Change Preferences. In there, open Safety Preferences. Select Disable safety lock and tap Done. Then you will be presented with the next option: "Turn off map display". Set this to Never.

[Q] Thoughts about Captivate Lock Key

Hello,
I just got a Captivate from AT&T, quickly I found that i need to press the lock key tens of times a day as I set display off at 30 sec.
Unblocking the phone does not bother me but I am concern if this sooner than later will break the lock button, so I would like to hear your comments with the 15 days I have to return the phone.
Also, is there any app that let me turn off the screen and re-activate the phone just touching the screen.
Thanks
Maybe try an application called Screebl?
It won't activate the screen when you touch it, but it will keep it alive while you're holding you're phone. So you can set your screen timeout to 15 seconds, but while your phone is tilted a certain way, it'll keep the screen on. It'll at least save you the need to push the power button to turn the screen back on while you're using it.
You might also be able to use Tasker to wake up the screen when the phone detects motion or held a certain way (but i'm not too sure about this)

I had an iphone for 2 years and pressed the home key for everything... on and home - so I am not to worried about the captivate.
Thanks for the comments
"no lock" on the market can disable the lock screen so that you can unlock with just the button. There is also a setting for the time before the screen turns off, I find one minute much better than thirty seconds.

I may be missing it but was hoping for a way that you could set the phone's screen to go off after X amount of time (say 1 minute) but still be able to just press the lock button to turn it back on), but for it to turn off and also passcode lock after Y amount of time (maybe 5 minutes) so that you don't have to either have the passcode lock off completely or on completely, but set on a certain amount of time...
I probably just made no sense, lol

you mean just like the iphone where passcode doesn't kick in till after the phone's screen has been off for a certain period of time (that you pick in settings).

Ummm yep, that's pretty much what I mean
If possible this would be great!
There is an app called lock delay in the market that will do what you are looking for.

Ooh, any idea how it interacts with no lock? I think I'll try it and see.

There is an even better app, that does EXACTLY what you are talking about. It's called Pattern Control, it's free from the Market as well. I use it now after trying about 6 different apps. Only problem is, it will NOT work on FroYo.

Well, I tried Pattern Control, and it does NOT do what I think is being said. On mine it said that since no pattern is set up, it can't do anything.
First we are not talking about the time before the screen dims and goes black. We are talking about the time before the screen goes into lock and requires a swipe (assuming there is no lock code on the phone) to get back to usable screen. Screen indeed may be black, and touch on power button brings up the "Phone locked" screen.
We want to be able to set the time before THAT lock happens to be longer. Ok if screen goes to black as set in Settings>Sound and Display>Screen Timeout, but we want it to still be unlocked (until the lock time we set is reached) so that when brought back to life before the lock time expires, no swipe is needed.

[Q] Screen timeout setting no worky.

So, I know there's no option for 'Stay awake while charging' in this version, which is annoying already....but no matter what I set the screen timeout to, it still goes dark/locks at 15seconds. Going back in to look at the setting still shows '3 minutes' or whatever selected but it damn sure doesn't do it. Anyone else?
My timer works fine at 2 minutes. I really miss the stay awake option while charging.
Yeah, cant imagine why that would be omitted, unless it really impacts charging ability/time...the included chargers are comparatively low output.

Smart lock not working...?

Does none of the smart lock tools actually work with this phone? The trusted places option worked perfectly on my OPO, but with this phone, I'm always asked to input my pattern or fingerprint when I'm at home. It's not an issue if I'm just turning on the phone because the fingerprint is super fast, but sometimes I like to open a notification right from the lock screen, but I can't do that if the smart lock isn't working...
I am running OOS 4.0.3 and I an confirm that Smart Lock is working.
I have set a trusted device via Bluetooth, in this particular case my Bluetooth module in my car.
Here's what happens and hopefully this is what you expect.
When I am outside of my house and walking to my car, my phone is locked and requires my fingerprint.
I turn on my car and my phone pairs with my car, which then enables the Smart Lock feature.
I then turn on my screen on my phone and I see a Lock Screen but it is slightly different. The lock symbol located at the bottom has a circle around it indicating that the phone only requires a swipe to go to my home screen. It does not require my fingerprint or pin/pattern.
No matter what you do the Lock Screen is present when Smart Lock is functioning. So far I am ok with this.
If you are looking to never see the Lock Screen when Smart Lock is functioning then I am not sure if you can do that.
There could be a way using Tasker for example IF Bluetooth is Connected to Car, set Screen Lock timeout to never and that might prevent the Lock Screen from appearing.
WE would have to test this and I am not sure if Tasker can change the Lock Screen timeout.
I hope this helps.

It seems the trusted location is very spotty for me at the moment. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't.
I've got a similar problem. The phone never unlocks when I'm at a trusted location. It unlocks when I'm connected to a trusted Bluetooth though. I've set the location using both my address and by using the Google Maps screen. Nothing works.
I'm using a OnePlus 3T with the regular operating system.
Same here. Trusted location only seems to work for a few hours after adding/resetting a location. After that, it is no longer recognized. I did see an issue brought up in the Pixel forums about this issue, but clearly it's not confined to that device. Here's a few threads about it:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/phone-by-google/KNrSoHOhb_Q
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...art-lock-trusted-places-doesnt-seem-work.html
Hopefully they are still looking into the issue and will release a fix as part of Android O whenever that comes to the 3/3T. Or maybe it's something that OP could look into, but I doubt we'll get that fixed in a timely manner either way...
I have the opposite problem. Phone will always unlock without prompting for fingerprint or code, regardless of being in a trusted location or not. It's pretty annoying.

Screen lock doesn't work.
Hi! My problem kinda different. My OP3T screen lock doesn't work. I tried to turn off smart lock. Changing the screen lock type, still doesn't work. Even with fingerprints. So anybody can open my phone by swiping it up. Did somebody have the same problem? Should i upload the video of it and link it?

How to keep screen on indefinitely, natively, without using an app?

Any thoughts on how to keep the screen on forever like the LG V20 allowed me to? I realized that I never put my phone down, in my pocket, connected to a cradle, without turning the screen off first, so why should I use some low screen timeout number when I hate having it turn off on me when I don't need it to? Furthermore, I couldn't find a way to have my car dock setup keep the screen on without the use of an app on the LG, and I hate having a stupid notification on the bar to tell me "hey, we're doing something for you all the time, thanks for using this app!" if I don't have to. I'm trying to sell you on the idea, not sure why, but those are my reasons in case someone asks why I prefer it this way....
ANYWAYS, the maximum timeout is 10 mins on the Note8, and I couldn't find anything other than the setting in developer's options to keep screen on while charging (which, I'll have you know for those trying to suggest that one, dims the screen after a period of time - I don't know what that is, I just know I saw it do it once and turned that setting off because that's not what I need while using Google Maps and driving). Any thoughts on this, natively, within the phone's own settings somehow???

Just FYI, you can get rid of those "always running" notifications indefinitely by swiping the notification to the right and tapping "block notifications". It simply removes the card, and has no affect on the apps functionality.
Use Caffeine.
- Open it, give it the proper permissions (it will ask)
- Enable it
- Enable " Start at boot" and "Auto enable at boot"
- Close the app, open the notification panel, swipe right on the caffeine card and tap "block all notifications".
- As long as you don't go and change the display timeout settings in the actual settings app, your phone will never auto turn off, and can only be turned on/off manually just like normal.
And if app drawer clutter is something you want to get rid of, just hide the app icon.

I'm familiar with this method, even familiar with Caffeine, which I like more than any of the other junk ones in the Play Store, but I was hoping for something built-in that wouldn't require another running app to do something simple - Samsung / Android should have all the simple stuff figured out by now.... this was DEFINITIVELY the only thing the V20 had over the Note7 and now the Note8, I hated almost everything else about the phone but wasn't going backwards to the S7 when I had to turn the the Note7.
Thanks for your help, will use this solution until / unless someone has another (native, preferable) solution
Found the issue with using Caffeine as opposed to something native. Caffeine does a great job of keeping the screen in no matter what, any time it comes on. This also includes if the power state is changed, a missed call comes through, etc. It will turn on the screen, show you the lock screen, and just sit there.
The LG was capable of shutting the screen off after a short timeout when only on the lock screen, which would allow a notification or change in power from keeping the screen on indefinitely because it wasn't forcing ANY screen on input from doing it, only when unlocked, when it was appropriate to do so.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Be very careful. Unlike your LG v20 this phone has a AMOLED display. If you leave it on the same screen for a long time it will cause burn in on the display.
What ever happened to Screebl? I was going to recommend it to a friend, and couldn't find it any more... I guess it has just survived the port from phone to phone.

See signature - not my first AMOLED display phone.... When the screen is on for a long time, it's because I'm driving and using Maps and switching to Play Music, etc. I'm trying to avoid having the screen on all night long with it coming on when A) the phone gets fully charged, and B) when a notification or something wakes it because Caffeine is almost "too good" at what it does!
Hate that I had to use an app to do this, but I am really liking Screen Timeout that disables the timeout options Samsung gave us all together. Would love to know how to get this done, without the need for root, where I don't have to disable notifications for an app that constantly runs, though....
What it does, if anyone cares, is make none of the selections selected so the screen stays on ONLY when unlocked, exactly what I figured out I was looking for. I hope this helps someone else looking for a solution like this!
Here's the link to the app I'm using:
