I said I was working on something new. Well, here it is!
First of all, you MUST be running Ivan's 0.7 or 0.5.4. This may work on other roms, but I have NOT tested it.
In short, this removes rosie. To be safe, make a nandroid before you install it. All Widgets/Sense Homescreen/all extra sense related apps are removed. A Full list is at the link below. It returns the phone to close to stock android. I'll be updating soon with a few more features.
More info at here.
Thanks!
EDIT :
figured out what it does.
thanks!
trying it now. Can't wait for it. Thanks for all your hard work!!
noob question! r u ready? whats senseless? is sence the main os thing kinds? on my task manager htc sence is like the main os, do u replace it with like aHome ir somthing like that?
sense is the overlay that HTC made for the phone. with the nice shiny user interface. senseless removes all of that and uses the stock android look, which many people find nicer. senseless also deletes any HTC sense releated apps that wont be used so the phone runs smoother.
thanks i really appreciate that help. im new to the android scene. its a little small due to all the different phones runnind different tweaks but i love the community so far. not like the psp or iphone one but i deffenitly like it, everyones friendly
Really looking forward to trying this out when I get home. First I have to install Ivan's, but this is exactly what I have been looking for.
You said it basically removes rosie, is that all? I could do that with root explorer, couldn't I?
thank you for this. applied this to my fav ROM instead of searching through root explorer for each sense apk. this made my fav rom a lil faster. thanks again for ur hard work
Works on Ivan's 0.81T2.
Now if can hack the incoming call screen it will be perfect.....

Hey everyone,
Im using an old DUtty's rom (he hasnt made any in a while). I am wanting to flash with something new, but just about every one of the roms these days seem to be Manilla.
My question is, what is it like? at first glance i dont really like the idea of it.
CHeers
EDIT: and are you able to turn it off so it goes back to the htc home or whatnot?
i really like it, im using garmins with the opal dialer, easily customized with all the skins out there, (see development and hacking), much more useful to me than htc home, which i guess got old, just like the cube. my two cents,
Lupe
Thanks.
What about how it lists emails/sms's? does it just use that silly preview where u have ot go through each one? or can you open it to list the emails?
Cheers
Just flash one You can open it to see them all, or you can scrll through them all.
alright, u guys convinced me!
Going to flash one tonight,
any suggestions?
want one that doesnt lag, and landscape works (i use the keyboard for all typing)
Not going to spam the Hero/G2 forum, but because i mainly live in the G1 area I would like you all to know that I have developed a whole new Home Replacement called GDE. It has transitions like a cube, configurable toolbar buttons etc etc.
A link to the G1 thread ( with all features and some movies ) so i dont have to copy all of it over and over:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4698010#post4698010
I have tested this on a G1 and a G2, so it should also run great on a Hero. If anyone has tried it please let me know how it works on your devices!
Highly recommend...currently replacing sense as my default home screen. Reminds me of compiz ...you definitely need to check it out!!!
how to download this?
It's in the market, read the comments if you don't believe me. I really like it a lot but going back to sense for now until an update.
@erasmogjr
Thanks for the replies. Could you let me know what you would want see first in an update?
I tried it any for a first release its very good. BUT the bottom app bar is not nice. Is there any way to make it transparent?
I am working on a theming framework so you should see different themes soon!
BOUGHT!!
this is great, keep up the good work and im looking forward to see updates
Is there a Lite version to try before buying it?
I did a search and only came up with the paid version.
this is for all those who are searching for the next hero rom they want to try, and also for us to be able to make some sort of judgement with relation to the popularity and usability of "a certain hero rom"...
i wanted to make a poll, but it would be too hard to include all the hero roms out there..
make it plain and simple guys...
i'll start...naturally
i'm switching between two roms(got them both nandroided
- jacxheroski 2.2r4 remix
this one's really nice and fast, works as advertised, but i would advise not to fill all the screens(7) with widget and stuff, cause it would start rebooting sometimes...i suggest 4 screens max...
- a version of jachero called superlite 2.7.3
this one comes without sense, BUT, you get to have all the htc hero applications, and its as fast as the best cupcake build i'v tried, and you can also flash the 10mb hack, and it also comes with flash for the browser... leds don't work tho
who's next
There needs to be a dummies guide to this. I can't make sense of it all. I find literally hundreds of ROMs and then find dozens of builds for each one. I can't take it anymore! All I want is something that removes the bloatware, runs faster than the stock Tilt 2 ROM, doesn't lose any capabilities such as keyboards, etc, lets SPB MS 3.5 run faster, and lets me tether.
Why don't the chef's at least provide a simple list of their ROMs and what they do, what works better and what doesn't work with that particular ROM? I've been digging through this site for two weeks now and I'm not even any closer to knowing what to flash now than when I started. I know from other searches that the Mods tend to close requests like this, but I'm really stumped and I really have tried. I'm not an idiot by any means. I do understand that these are being provided for free and that I should be appreciative....and I am. But it seems to me that even the devs themselves would benefit from this so they wouldn't duplicate each others work and would be able to better track what they are doing.
Anyways, any suggestions for the ROM to do what I want?

What you do is flash one and see if you like it. If not, it is quite simple to flash another.
Try the Titanium 2 Jun NRG ROM and see what you think. It has no Sense version at all, which increases the storage memory size.
http://www.fileserve.com/list/X9nQc65
EDIT: I am assuming that you have read the "Flashing for NOOB" and the "Hard SPL" threads, you need both to be able to flash a custom ROM.
I have pretty much tried all of the ROMs but I reallly like only 2 ROMs. The best one for me is Cell Evo V7 (23541) (the link to thread. I have just flashed Josh's ROM. n i havent had any problem yet. I use the Sense 2.1. (its in my sig) I think 2.5 is still very buggy. so that maybe somethin u may wanna try out. I think the evo one is the most stable! but this is all just my own opinion. u may or may not like them!
Thanks for the tips. I have read the pages you mentioned and I understand that flashing in itself is a simple process. But for me, it's not just the flashing. I have to flash, install SPB MS and all of my apps, setup my weather, my exchange server and sync my contacts, configure active-sync, apply all my tweaks and then the phone is ready to use. Then if I don't like a ROM because it is slow or buggy, I'll have to do it all again......
At least that's how I picture it. Now if you are telling me that I don't have to go through all that each time, then I'll be a happy camper, but I suspect I am right on this.
What is a "sense" version that you are referring to?
Also, if you could explain the difference between a light, full and normal build that would be nice.
And what the deal is with finding matching "radios" whatever that is about.
And what is a "manila"?
And the problem with keyboards???? Do most ROMS have trouble using the keyboard? What other issues might I encounter while trying to use the normal functions of the device?
There's a lot of jargon here and I just don't see a single place that explains it all.

Manilla = Sense. "Sense" is the name that HTC uses for their UI. There are two major versions, 2.1 and 2.5 (newest). There is also an older UI called TF3D (TouchFlo 3D).
Matching radios refers to flashing your radio with different firmware. The device has ROM versions, which is what everyone is referring to, and the Radio has a different version. Some people prefer a certain radio, some ROMs recommend a certain radio. I'm using NRG, and have never updated my radio version.
Keyboards. Most ROMS will not automatically map your keyboard (AT&T and T-Mobile have different mappings - the exception is a ROM built for a specific carrier). The reason is simple - the Chef doesn't know what carrier you are using! On the NRG ROMs, there is a tool included to "provision" your device for your carrier; this fixes the keyboard. Or you can do a search and find the right keyboard .cab file for your device.
- Light, medium, and full. I personally don't use these terms, but my definition would be as follows. Light is a ROM that has very little added functionality other than what Microsoft provided with the operating system. Full is a ROM (like NRG) that has lots of custom stuff baked into the ROM - extra utilities and etc., which are useful to you (in the Chef's opinion). A medium would be somewhere in between.
I would include the stock ROM as a "Full" ROM, except that in their case a lot of their software is "bloatware", which means stuff they added because they could, or they had some kind of deal with a particular company, etc. It is called "bloatware" because it seems to serve only the purpose of making the ROM harder to use and cluttering up the menu system with lots of useless stuff - bloated.
Are you a happier camper?
two of your best bets are gonna be the
e2 rom and the nrg version of your choise
e2 rom is almost exatly like the att stock but a lot sexier

Umm, speaking personally, I'm not sure I want a "sexy" TP2!
Ah. That explains a lot. Thanks for the info. Maybe one day when I'm no longer a dummy I'll write a dummies guide. Until then, thanks for the tips.
Hi,
I had the same problem as you, I just wanted a stock rom without all the extra stuff that htc provides, I wanted to be simple, fast and stable, after flashing a lot of ROM I decided to take the problem in my own hands so I started learning how to cook my own ROM, you have a very good guide about how to do that here.
After reading and understanding this guide you can create your own ROMs just the way you like it.
Maybe just like me you will not succeed for the first time, but in the end you will have a ROM cooked by you and will suite all your needs.
Good luck!
So, I'm starting to look at some of the ROMs people have done, but not really finding what I'm looking for....
I want something that has:
* HTC Sense 2016 or so
* No modified taskbar icons etc
* No modified menus etc etc
* No modified splash screens / welcomehead etc...
* Whatever Windows Mobile build.
* Stock look & feel
I guess my idea of a good ROM is a stock HTC ROM with an updated Sense etc. I'm only looking as I'm having a few issues with Sense hanging after various actions.I can access the start menu etc, but no SMS/email/settings etc without rebooting. This is on the stock SEA ROM.

I did look at these ROMs, but they seem to miss multiple points that I made above. From customised menus to icky icons :\
Also, I'm not a fan of the start menu being moved to the bottom and the 'button' style hotkey things at the bottom...
Try my S2 ROM ShowLITE version. Pretty stock and Sense 2016 on board.
Buildup to be memory friendly.

well you seem to miss the point of these custom roms. they arent made to really be the exact same as the stoc rom but more optimized... theyre usually changed graphically in ways such as icons and task bars. i suggest just reloading your stock rom. these custom roms are usually faster and more stable. but you have to get used to them. they are custom for a reason and its usually made for specific to the creators wants. so it will most likely be reskinned and much different looking.
Try deepshining...it is my favourite and by far the best there is for our Rhodium.
If you want a review, read this article first.

Having been around here for over 3 years, I know exactly the point of custom ROMs - however there is always a place for a ROM that is almost the same as a stock - but with updates. Mainly this takes the role of bug fixes etc. It's usually also good if some of the stock software is stripped out to give the user the choice.
My ROMs for Hermes were exactly that - stock looking with critical functionality the same - but with bug fixes etc...
Hi CRCinAU , I have been looking for a ROM that has exactly the points that you have mentioned above. Sadly, i haven't found anyone.
Simplicity ROM, in my opinion is the most similar to what you mention.
Hopefully, someone will make a ROM like what you ask.

I installed ShowLITE and quite like it. I am curious though, do you have this with the HTC Messenging for SMS/MMS instead of ArcSoft? I like the HTC client much better...
Oh, and also to put the start menu back to 3 columns instead of 4.. 4 is a little too small for my fingers!

+1. I current run Jacko's rom with cht beta 2.0 cooked in and it is off the hook. I can modify it whichever way i want and still have about 90 mb of memory constantly available. I can't wait for his new rom when it comes out. It is the best rom i've had since I started flashing. Beside it being stable and bug free, it is fast and responsive.

I would have to agree. I've been messing with ROMS since I had an HTC 8525. The NRG ROMs are made for people who like the flash and bling so to speak. They have many add ons and gadgets that people have loved. The Simplicity is a basic ROM. Not many add ons, great memory after flash and great battery life. My question to you though is; why not take the stock ROM, use a program that will allow yo to take out programs inside the ROM (SK Tools is a great one.) And download a good copy of say CHT-Cookie Home Tab (When you download this, you will NEED the CHTE-Cookie Home Tab Editor if you choose this one.) Look around, find a good copy of Sense and install it into a stock ROM. Bam, problem fixed!
