Hi all, just wondering if anyone has encountered this issue?
A couple of my friends/family have taken a picture with their blackberry and then emailed it to my paid hotmail account, which is monitored via the stock email app on my N1.
The email comes in, I can see that there's an attachment, and at the bottom of the email the icon is there of the green android. I click "open", and I get an error: "This attachment cannot be displayed".
WTF?
Any help would be appreciated!!

I am collecting my mail from a POP3 mailbox but am unable to view or open any attachments.
The header of the message is received and there is a link in the message that gives me the option to download the full message and any attachments. When I click this the message changes to say that the attachment will be downloaded the next time I do a "Send and Receive".
On selecting "Send and Receive" the phone connects and appears to download the attachment. I say this because if it is a large attachment the phone says it is downloading for some minutes. If it is a small attachment the time is much shorter.
Either way when the download is complete any text in the message is visible but there is no sign of an attachment.
If I use ActiveSync to collect the same mail from my PC all the attachments are visible and can be opened.
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
do you have a full data plan? I had this problem with using tzones or one of the lower plans

Jonathan - thanks for the response.
I don't believe the data plan is the problem - I have 3GB a month allowance and can easily download files etc. via the web browser.
Perhaps if anyone else uses a POP3 mailbox they could confirm whether or not they can pick up attachments.
I can say that I can have received, opened, and viewed PDF's on my phone so it can work. I'm sure you've checked, but in the email account Menu>Tools>Options>"your pop3 account" go thru the steps until the last one before finish and make sure that the "message download limit" drop down box is set to "Entire Message", (choices are 2, 5, 20, 50k, Headers Only, Entire Message).
Good Luck!
Reme - thanks so much for the reply
I take it you are talking about mail that has been received from a POP3 mail server rather than from Exchange or via ActiveSync.
If so then it is very strange. The message size in my Inbox would seem to indicate that the attachment has been downloaded but there is no link to open or save it.
Unless anyone else has any ideas I suppose will have to try a factory reset.
...was this issue ever properly resolved as am getting exactly the same problem with my XDA MiniS/Qtek 9100? Problem started out of the blue some days ago and has nothing to do with tariff/network settings or email settings on the device. The bizarre thing is that if I compile an email with attachment on my other WM device (XDA IIi) and use the MiniS to collect the email (POP3) then all OK! (and vice versa). Any emails with attachments that are not compiled and sent by a WM device work on the XDA IIi but no longer work on the MiniS - bizarre....
Same symptoms as thread author... download an entire email which I know has attachment and the message size is correct but no paperclip icon on the message in the inbox list and no attachment file icon in the message header itself - just an empty message (except for any text that might be in the body of the message).
Have tried hard reset and restoring from a full back-up but the backup simply recreates the problem as no doubt the screwy file/registry entry/whatever is preserved in the back-up making process. Am trying to avoid complete hard reset without a restore as do not want to lose my Contacts/Calendar data and the laborious process of reinstalling all my programs - some of which will then need activating again due to DRM licences.
Oh, and I have tried deleting the email account and recreating it but the problem will not go away...
Since my last thread and after a number of tests I believe I have have now discovered why it is possible to see and open some email attachments collected from a POP3 Mail Server and not others.
It appears that if an email is sent in Text Format then both the message and the attachment are received by the TyTN and the attachment can be opened by clicking on the link in the message.
However, if the same email is sent in HTML Format the message and the attachment are again received by the TyTN but there is no link to the attachment in the message and it cannot be opened.
If the same emails are collected from Outlook via ActiveSync all the attachments are visible and can be opened irrespective of whether the email is in Text or HTML Format.
Unless I am alone with this problem this is clearly a major bug for a business PDA.
For many users it is one of the main functions of the device to be able to send and receive attachments. To have to look at each email and try and guess whether there might have been an attachment before asking for it to be re-sent in Text Format rather negates the whole point of the device.
Furthermore, it seems as though the "hidden" attachments are saved with the message on the device itself rather than on the Storage card so could rapidly eat up the available memory.
Before I refer the matter to HTC I would be grateful if someone could verify my findings. I have also seen reports that someone on another forum overcame the problem by using a third party mail reader. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Bump
Am I the only one here who uses the TyTN for email ?
I would love to hear whether others have the same problem and if so how it is solved ?
I have noticed that everytime i send a email threw my Gmail acount over my phone in my mailbox on my computer it shows and icon that says"sent items" and when i looking into it a little more it shows that i am acutually sending 2 emails each time i send one. The first email has the text that i have entered and the second email is just blank.
Has anyone else had this issue or can you tell me how to fix it. thanks
are you using the gmail app, pocket outlook, or via internet?
I have looked high and low and can't figure out how to, or a hack for, previewing the first few lines of an email on the Email Tab in TF3D. I have applied the hack to put the envelope behind the emails, just can't get the body of the email to show. I get "Click to view messages'" I even tried sending TXT vs HTML messages with no success. Any ideas or suggestions? I am currently using Seven Beta to push my work email and personal email to the two corresponding accounts on the phone.
Are you saying when you slide to the email tab it doesn't show a preview of the message or just with your email account? I have a stock imagio and it always shows them. Timmay!!!
Yes, I am not seeing the preview, just Click to see message. That is telling me that I am seeing something unique to my two accounts being pushed by Seven Beta. Thanks,
Andy
Do you have a hotmail or similar account account you can set up and see if that previews the message or have you tried that?
Do you know if Seven Beta only pushes headers or full message?

That was it. I added my comcast account via outlook vs Seven and got the preview then. Searched again with Seven in the tag and found this. so looks like it is being worked on for anyone else using Seven. Seven Beta is the best when you are on a large corporate email system and can't get push access. I get my entire GAL access as well through it for GE.

With normal poll email it works with full preview...?
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks
That's a known bug. The Seven guys are on it. PRobably something about the formatting of the message once it passes through Seven's process that TF3D chokes on -- It will do the same for a small handful of e-mails on accounts set up the normal way too.
Cannot see any email attachments when receiving photos etc...I see the paper clip icon but no where to view and no option to download...any ideas?
Just tap the paper clip for it to download
Tried, just takes me to mail subject page..
I can
I just opened and excel Spreadsheet no problem. It works like previous WINMO phones- tap the attachment to download and them tap to view.
What format is the pic in? Are u sure it's a picture and not a video?
I copied a picture and pasted it into HTML format email.
Sent it to GMAIL and to my EXCHANGE account.
GMAIL won't download the full picture but does give reference where it came from.
EXCHANGE downloaded the picture perfectly fine. Along with the referencing link from the properties of the picture.
I have Gmail account only, I can see attachment icon in inbox list, but when I click attachment it opens message..is it because of Gmail?
I copy and pasted a photo into a new Gmail message, and sent it back to me and it displayed on my phone just fine.
Same when I sent an e-mail from Gmail to my Hotmail account. Displayed on the phone just fine.
just tried myself, You are correct it does work, the image in question was sent from someone with an Iphone..maybe it attaches images different way?

Well I just sent a photo with my iPod Touch to my Gmail account, checked it on my phone, and it appears as an attachment right under the "To: My Name" here. I just tap it, it downloads, and I can view it.
Thanks anyway.
iPhone pictures not getting downloaded
You are right. I was thinking about the same thing.
I was sent a few emails with pictures of their kid from an iPhone. I did get the email and it does show that there are 2 attachments. But when I tap on the attachments, the link just disappears and the email content is blank. Where as the same email, when I check in my Gmail account, I see the pictures in the body of the mail.
I tested the attachments issue by sending myself a jpeg file, and it downloaded just fine. So, I am not getting the pictures sent via iPhone (to my gmail account).
Can anyone check this?
when pics are to small it happens.. my friend sent me small resolution pics and i couldn't see them email shows the attachments but when click nothing happens.. i tried big pics and works perfectly
Been reports the gmail app has attachment download issues. I tested it again and no go on the download this time. Forwarded the same email to my exhange and it worked fine. Wait for gmail update.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
